Great build dude! Good to see you included the stuff that went wrong too. Ambitious projects almost never go the way you want them to, but you gain a wealth of knowledge from them. In the end it turned out gorgeous!
Love your videos! You and Don Nguyen are the most underrated knifemakers on UA-cam imo! How did you get such an amazing hamon?? I know that W2 is the best steel for hamons, but do you think I could achieve a similar result with 1095 and a very fast oil. There is just no W2 available in Germany… also, how did you polish the knife? I heard you have to go to a ridiculously high grit to get such definition in the hamon.
Thank you I appreciate that! Yes you can achieve such results with 1095, I've just finished a knife with 1095 that has better hamon activity than this one. Polishing the knife is a combination of high hand sand finishing and then using silicon carbide powder to bring out the hamon after etching
@@saccoknivessorry for bringing this up 2 years later. When exactly do you getting the tip? If I followed correctly it was still square after the medium/high grit finish on the disc.
Way to pull it out and what a piece of art

Thanks man! I believe making mistakes is all a part of it
Beautiful knife and nice hoodie
Great job thanks for sharing the good the bad and the beautiful 👍
Beautiful knife. I'm glad you show your mistakes as well for us budding knife makers.... pardon the pun.
Haha my pleasure! It happens to all of us

don't worry about messing up that first blade my guy, everybody makes mistakes everybody has those days
Nobody’s perfect I gotta work it again and again

Beautyfull knaif 🥰
Burly build, great rig
Thanks. That’s my big rig
Leave the tip squared off until bevels are ground in? I need to try that
My first time trying it. Helps to keep the heat down near the tip which is nice
