Hey guys! We are so proud of dad, he videoed this whole knife build all buy himself (that’s why they are all tripod shots). I think he did a great job! I edited the video for him, so we make a great team! Show dad some love! ❤️-Josh
My Dad passed away suddenly at only 53, but not before he had (thankfully) instilled in me the importance of making sure that every single detail in every job & project is as important as the next detail. "Big pictures" are made up from lots of "little details". Treat every project as if it for yourself, then pass your knowledge and work ethic on to someone else. Now, when I work on my old tractor, it's not work, it's a labour of love & is extremely rewarding. Give your Dad a hug from all of us. I wish I was the client who is getting that beautiful knife. Cheers from S.Louisiana.
Hey Brian sorry to hear about your dad. Thanks for sharing. You go do the same for someone else. I know you will my friend. You can contact us at jeff@royercutlery.com for availability and pricing Dad
I also enjoy the tone of your voice. It is soothing as well, and I also like when you include temps while giving details. Great job with the knives. I have watched may how to videos and have started my first knife. The landlord where I lived for the last 5 years would not let me set up a small place to sand so moved out and am heading to Florida to set up shop with a friend. My good friends family owns a bunch of junkyards so I have a surplus of metals to work with. My first knife is coming out of a slipper leaf spring that has a distal taper to it so grinding and sanding should be a breeze. As soon as a get a hydraulic press I will try some of your courses. My first Damascus will be your Basket weave knife that I love. Great work guys. You have taught me much. Not sure how to send you a picture but when I get it finished I will figure it out. P.S. I'm a service connected disabled Marine at 65 years old and chose your profession to keep me sane. I hope to be good enough some day to do half as good as you masters. Dan!
Dad, you've come a long way my friend. Your knife is stunning. The feather pattern is right down the middle. I also love the handle and blade mix. Well done. Props to Josh as well on the production of the video. Go Team Royer!
You guys are magicians. The way you manipulate metals on a molecular level is astounding. If I just saw the finished piece I would be amazed but I'm even more impressed when I see how much work and skill is involved in the process. Your technical abilities are one thing but the artistry is on another level. Such wonderful craftsmanship gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. Maybe you think I'm blowing smoke but I don't have enough superlatives to give. Keep up the great work Royer family. An admirer from the UK.
I am so glad to finally see a smith using a surface grinder for knife making. It was one of the first things I thought of using if I ever got into this.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again! You guys are my favorite knife making channel!! I love the content you guys put together. I find myself hand sanding watching your videos over and over lol! Love them all!
Absolutely amazing job! Whomever edits and puts the videos together needs a pat on the shoulder. Also, I love Dad's commentary very chill and relaxing. Former butcher and cook here and I would love one of these blades so beautiful!
So happy to watch dad making such an awesome knife. This is without a doubt my favorite channel on the whole internet. God bless you and your amazing family. ❤️
Nice job old man!! It's great to have a son who is a Master Smith isn't it. You helped him along on his journey and now he repays the love and you have learned well old Jedi.
Absolutely. Kyle’s mom runs the office… Keeps us guys in motion. Anna,Kyle’s sister was here for a while preparing and serving meals and sh got on the GRS engraving system for a while, then she had to go off and start having my granddaughters 👍🏻😘. Caleb was here for a while doing marketing and professional photography for us, but he ended up doing his own gig Dad
@@KyleRoyerKnives That’s so cool! I didn’t know about Caleb or Anna. It’s great how cohesive you all are. Anyhow thanks for taking time to read my comment and reply. And also thanks again for the great work.
Copy copy. More eventually coming. I’m building a chopper style right now. Josh will probably get to it in about a month. Glad you’re here my friend Dad
Absolutely beautiful chef knife! I'm a Is career chef of almost 30 years. I primarily use Wustoff blades, but watching this beautiful chef knife being made has pushed me closer to upgrading to a handmade custom chef knife for sure. Love the work ❤️
Hey thanks James. Have used good quality production knives back in the day . After I built my first knife I couldn’t believe the difference and some of my first knives aren’t anything like they are now. All of my old production knives in my personal kitchen are sitting in the back of the drawer collecting dust. No way can I go back. I have executive chefs and line staff al over the world say the same. If I you would like me to help you out with this contact me at jeff@royercutlery.com for availability and pricing my friend. FLAME ON Dad
Specifically what makes a custom knife better than high quality German knife? I ask because I use a quality German chef knife about 3-4 hours a day. I'm not a trained professional, I'm a done this for 22 years professional. Great video, thanks for sharing, I have been subscribed for quite awhile.
Most even "quality" German knives are mass produced which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I want a high quality, durable, custom knife is all. I want something unique that someone hand made, that someone may get the same shap, but the pattern will be mine is all. Guess it all comes down to personal preference.
I like that you stress attention to detail and making sure it's done right, at the right time. The brass alloy, the handle, especially the blade look fantastic! Great job!
Sir, you are truly a Master of your craft! I really enjoy watching you create your Masterpieces. I’m a Union Boilermarker, in my line of work we do a lot of the same processes you do when your creating your pieces and it’s just amazing to see you use the skills to create such high quality items. Anyways just wanted to let you know how talented I think you are and one day I’d love to be able to buy one of your knives!!
Amazing work Mr. Royer, your process shows that you have indeed learned from your son's experience, as the knife turned out to be a functional work of art. However, I do suspect that the refinement that Kyle demonstrates to us with such regularity, and seeming ease, have origins based on foundational lessons that were passed on to him by you in his more formative years. He obviously paid attention. The sign of true wisdom is one's ability to continue learning, and evolving even when the lessons come from one whom you first taught. Truly a family that embraces excellence in their pursuits. Be well.

Hoping to see more of his videos, his work shows plenty of the Royer talent. I admire him for his abilities. Regards from Down Under.

Absolutely love that Kyle's dad acknowledges he learned from his son, and then went on to show us that. Beautiful.
