Awesome little getaway. I'm craving a quick overnighter, but I'm in northern Alabama and I'll be on a motorcycle. And my camp spot will not be as outdoors-ish, or magnificent, as yours. Jealous of that beautiful brookie, too!! Thanks for taking us along.
To enjoy winter camping a little more try to set up a base camp, then use it for then one trip. Pick a location that offer access to others. Then the wood, set up and all that becomes a little easier.
Great job on the fishing! Interesting thoughts on winter camping! While winter is quickly becoming my second favorite season after fall, I find myself spending my time outdoors a little differently this year. I haven't camped this winter yet, and instead I've just been trying to embrace all the best days and best conditions for snow biking. I think if I had a hot tent I'd be spending the night more often but I think it's just not so much about winter camping and more about winter travel for me. I fished almost every day last summer, me and the dogs ate HUNDREDS of mackerel, but I think I just have different motivations and passions in the winter cause I haven't wanted to catch a fish since it snowed, I just wanna ride!
Yes, winter camping is much harder than summer canoe trips or even hiking. Everything takes longer, is harder, and colder to perform. It is usually type II fun. But there is a beauty in winter that cannot be found in summer, they are complementary seasons. I find myself enjoying winter camping more and more. But I look to make it easier on myself every year.
Love the location! As a Brook trout ice fisherman I’d love to spend some time there .. I live in Maine and do have some nice places .. but lots more up your way!
What captures my attention in your videos is 1) your authenticity - yes, winter camping is much more demanding and challenging than summer canoe camping, and you are genuine about your feelings, 2) your enthusiasm - every frame you are in, your enthusisam shines through - it shows you are enjoying what you are doing, 3) your camerawork - you take extra effort to bring out the outdoor vibes for us watching from home, and 4) your feelings you are able to express so clearly... I love your content Ben. Will come see you and say hello at the Outdoor Adventures Show. Cheers!
Nice video, and yes I could see it being challenging to winter camp. But you have given it a try. Beautiful area . enjoyed this well done thanks for taking us with you.
Music......perfect! video......perfect!!! You just keep getting better, Ben. I must say, I was looking very good when you pointed me out!! I had to giggle.
