      Appreciate it. At the current discounts on the bike it is a much more appealing buy. But definitely not at full price.

    ripley AF is the bike you are looking for. Coming from someone who rode it in XC races and on proper gnarly trails. One ripley AF frame, two sets of wheels/tires and you have basically two bikes. Done. You are welcome ;)

      I know about the Ripley but I don’t want one. I do think it is versatile and can go down country mode or beef up to full trail mode depending on wheels and tires.

    N+1 bikes has these right now with full XT builds, a nicer dropper post than comes on the entry level ones and carbon bars for $3999.00 I decided it’s worth it for that build and ordered one. The only potential upgrade it should/could need down the road to make is lighter carbon wheels.

    • @DylanBradley

      Yea that’s a great deal for the nicer components. Check out Elite Wheels for inexpensive carbon wheels.

      Thanks, yeah I’d been eyeing the Elite wheels as an upgrade for my Ripley AF. Now I have them in mind for the Exie. I’ll probably have to wait a little while though because even though the $4000.00 is a good deal it’s still a lot of money. Maybe if I end up selling the Ripley I can use some of the money towards Elite wheels.

    Think about adding Cushcore, one up carbon bars and some cushy ergonomic grips. Made a huge difference on my Scott Spark RC. I also added max volume spacers to the fork. I kept everything else stock.

    • @DylanBradley

      Added the bars and grips. No cuchcore. The big problem for this specific build was that it’s an xc bike at a trail bike weight. If it were 25lbs then it would be a different story.

    Check out the ripley af. It’ll descend almost as good as the ripmo af but it’s a lot snappier. If you want a more balanced bike compared to the ripmo, it’s the ticket.

    • @DylanBradley
      @DylanBradley  11 місяців тому

      Yea I almost got one of those. I had the ripmo af before. I do really love the exie. But it just necessitates a little more money to fully unlock and another longer travel bike. I ended up picking up an alchemy Arktos so I can use my exie for long speedy days and races and the Arktos for long rowdy descents. I’d love to do a comparison video of the Arktos 150 vs a v2 carbon ripmo.

      @@DylanBradleyI just bought a Ripley AF and was debating between the two coming from a ripmo af. I really want to try an Exie to compare the two. I'm already thinking of ways to lighten it

      @@user-jn3ju3cz4h If you’re keeping the ripmo af I think having the ripley (especially af) will be too similar unless you beef up the ripmo and slim down the ripley). Instead of those two bikes, I’d get another wheelset for my ripmo or ripley (you could do this with either depending if you’re more trail focused or downhill focused)- some elite gnar 29er wheels and some trail oriented tires. Then I’d keep the stock wheels with assegais for more downhill days. Id also switch out the rear cassette on the carbon wheels to a garbaruk cassette and to do that will cost about $1100-$1300 (including the new tires). Id run that setup for days when I had to pedal more. If I was running an NX crankset I’d buy a carbon crank for around $200 bc the nx crankset and chainring are heavy. And another thing, if you’re keeping the ripmo and want an xc bike, you could get the DV9 and make similar upgrades to the wheels and such.

      @@DylanBradleyhard to give either of the bikes up when they are both so good. Ripley and DV9 would be a nice combo for flat land riding that I do. I'd have to try an Exie on a test ride before dropping the coin on one

      @@user-jn3ju3cz4h Hah yea that’s the problem with these bikes. Once you ride them you want to keep them. The exie sure is fun. My next upgrades to mine will be the wheels.

  • @tommyr95

    Sounds like you simply should've sought out a trail bike instead of an XC bike if you wanted a do it all bike. I don't see the criticisms specific to the Exie. It would apply to any similarly priced XC bike.

    • @DylanBradley
      @DylanBradley  11 місяців тому

      I’m gonna do an update video here soon… But The big problem with this Exie build is the price and what you get. It basically necessitates spending an extra 1-2k minimum to make it really xc ready. And in that case you’re likely going to be better off looking at the Exie USA build. Or just getting a trail/downcountry bike. Don’t get me wrong I really like the bike… I just think it’s in a tough position in the market.

  • @Drogos79

    so you are saying that for climbing ...it's all in tires and wheels.

    • @DylanBradley
      @DylanBradley  8 місяців тому +1

      Hah yea that’s a big part of it in my experience. Obviously the geometry + suspension can help or hurt. But when I ran the exie with burlier trail tires it sucked on the uphill and was still less than ideal on the downhill. For this bike I don’t think it makes sense to turn it into anything other than a lightweight speed machine.

      Thanks! Currently it's deeply discounted online. I ended up selling mine, but if I were to buy one again I'd only buy the Exie For all at a discount so I could have some money left over to add some carbon wheels, lighter cassette and lighter crank.
