A little mountain bike manufacturer based in Santa Cruz, CA, has had big dreams- to build carbon fiber frames here in the United States- and to christen the carbon facility they built from the ground up, the first model to be publicly available from that project is the new Exie. The Exie is a 100mm travel 29er frame, designed to be used with a 120mm 29er fork, and the frame with shock weighs a mere 4 pounds. That’s under 2kg!
A big thanks to Ibis Cycles for sponsoring this video! Learn more about the Exie here: bit.ly/IbisExie
The intended use of this bike is cross country racing and light weight trail riding. I have never ridden a modern cross country bike, and the smallest trail bike I currently ride is another Ibis- the Ripley AF, though it has a full 20mm more travel on either end.
The Exie was going to be a whole new experience. I figured what better chance than this to do “more with less”, and to spend nearly a week on the road with my moto and this here bicycle.
A couple months back, I picked up a 2014 Suzuki VSTROM 1000, which is a total “dad motorcycle”, as it’s considered an “ADV” bike, and if there’s one thing I love, it’s a spontaneous adventure with limited preparation, some flexible goals, and bicycles somehow involved.
    I’m using a 2x2 Cycles rack: bit.ly/2x2Bike... (affiliate link)
I do my motorcycle shopping at MotoSport: bit.ly/Motospo... (affiliate link)
Big shout to my sponsors! Thanks to Jenson USA, PNW Components, Industry Nine, and Shimano- and any purchases from the below links to Jenson USA will help support my channel:

"Steep" head angle... modern bikes feel so good to me since I started riding when 26" bikes had 71 or 72 degree head angles! I'm sure you're the same!

Me too Jake! My 26" wheeled Bontrager actually had a larger offset fork to make the head angle even twitchier!!!

I’m still riding a slack head angle 68deg. Kona Abracadabra with 160mm travel. This was the pinnacle enduro racing bike in 2013 . Now it’s a dinosaur put the slack at angle. My 2001 conus dad had a 68° head angle 150 mm or travel and a deal crown fork. It was actually my cross country bike at 40 pounds and a 40 tooth front chain ring. I wanted some slack with some travel for Trail riding

    • @TheDavidjakeson
      @TheDavidjakeson 3 роки тому

@@troyphillips1077 Is the Abracadabra the one with the little helper shock? The Magic Link? If so I had one of those in 2008-ish. It was so slack back then because my other bike was a Cannondale Flash that I think had a 71 deg HA!

I use a chopped-down screen in summer (Australia). Those vents in your jacket and helmet need air-flow to work ;) As long as the flow is smooth (ie., really low screen) you won't get buffeting. Just need to avoid being behind traffic on freeway - clean air flow is king on a screen-less bike. Try it with no screen as well - might be all you need.

Yeah, they've been gearing up for this for almost a decade now. They are starting small, with one super high end bike, but I bet they do more as they get more experience. I do think they will continue to make bikes in Asia, as the Asian factories are a lot bigger with a far bigger skilled workforce, allowing for much more throughput.

Great video Jeff. You keep saying steep head angle at 67deg. I ride a 160mm Kona Abracadabra from 2013 and it had a then slack 68deg head angle . Before that I had a 2001 Kona Stab with a dual crown ( originally) 150mm fork and 68deg head angle. I’ve always wanted for my trail bikes that 150-160mm travel (on 26”) bikes .
I haven’t gone to big wheels yet but will probably in a few years.
I’m a live music videographer/photographer. My cash has been going there .

What an amazing video. The quality of your videos is by far the best. I appreciate the hard work you put into your craft. Oh yeah nice riding too. lol. Ibis ain't no dummies, they knew they had to get the best to show off what this new bike can do. They needed too, it's too expensive for the blue collar folk like myself. $8000 starting point. Awesome work!

Thanks Simon! Logan filmed the riding stuff from 3:05 to 5:45, I shot the rest on the go. Was a bit of a hustle!!!

You seem like the nicest person, Jeff. Just a decent, caring human being.
As always, very entertaining. Drone shots are fantastic. How effortless does this guy move around on his bike, huh? Annoying 👀
    Stay safe 🤙

Wow, thank you! I read your comment during a rough day, and it really cheered me up- thanks man! That drone actually crashed itself twice this winter, and is outta commission, but I got a replacement delivered literally TODAY! Hoping for more XC stuff like this soon!!!

Amazing video!! Loved the energy, the style, the edit and vibe. 🤘🏻
And the drone shots when you were riding near the smoke from the fires, man that looks like a game. Something straight out of ‘Horizon zero dawn’ world. Unreal!

Great video Jeff, stoked to see you reviewing an Ibis again! My 91 Manitou FS bike had three inches of travel and we thought it was insane at the time, one of the best all around and DH bikes back then. Cool to see Ibis venturing into new territory. Dig all the behind the scene shots, know how long those take to setup :)
