I'm not an American and I do not live in America. I do want to congratulate America that students can ask questions and debate on topics, even if some people think the questions are stupid. The point is, students feel they can ask them.
I'm American and I'm very grateful we can. I know people who were born in the Soviet Union, and they wouldn't have been allowed to ask questions against the status quo. So I'm very grateful I can.

Students here typically arent asking questions to get answers. They typically come to these talks to make accusations in the guise of questions. This school is very tame and respectful though. The exception. Students should be prohibited from activism on campus. They are there to learn not make others feel attacked while there trying to get a degree they paid a fortune for.
Right or wrong, Shapiro's ability to answer impromptu questions is like a Marvel superpower. Yes, I know he's a lawyer, yes I know he's answering questions that he's answered before and are in his wheelhouse, but still, he rattles off responses that are intelligent, concise and entertaining.
I am a teacher. I would NEVER keep a secret from a parent. Not my job, not my place. I have had to call the authorities because students were being physically abused. I wouldn't call that keeping a secret. Teachers are legally mandated to do so. This college student means well but has no idea how inappropriate his idea is.
It is instructive that so many of these students (especially the second snotnose) used a cellphone as a teleprompter, reading from it verbatim, even stumbling over some phrases...
I don't find any problem with this at all. It allows one to prepare a clear and cohesive question, and gives one a chance to edit and refine. Contrast this with extemporaneous bumbling questions. Best to go to the microphone well prepared.

It's because when they're writing the question, they're doing so in the comfort of their bedrooms with a caricature of Shapiro in their minds. Then, when they're in the huge lecture theatre with hundreds in the audience, facing down the real guy, their question doesn't sound as witty and as smart as they originally thought.

Contrary to what you may be seeing on the liberal media outlets, he packs every auditorium on every campus (that allows him on site) and my observation is that his support is growing exponentially as more and more young students see the BS that these liberal institutions are promoting. Texas A&M is my alma mater. I am very proud of the students in how civil and well-behaved they were. Almost every college campus Q&A has at least one student losing it or freaking out. Happy this did not happen at Texas A&M Gig 'em!

I find it troubling that many of these college kids think that it is a teacher's job to keep any student's secrets. That is NOT what you are there for. You can be friendly to students, but you are not there to be their friend. Even if you are 22 and teaching in high school, as a teacher, you have to separate yourself as an adult and take your duties as a teacher seriously and teach.

I think the student was talking about in cultures where beating and or killing if LGBTQ is accepted (like Iran) What I found troubling was that he said kids who were LGBTQ were "more likely to be beaten (inferring here in the US). If a parent is going to beat a child being or not being LGBTQ is not a factor as they would have been raising their child this way long before the child said or did anything LGBTQ But it like asking if abortion should be kept legal for all the rape and incest situations( 97% of abortions are for convenience)
Essentially, the request to keep a secret is beyond the duties of the teacher. If the teacher takes that risk, they would have to accept the consequences of that risk. It's kind of like doing something bad, but beforehand, you acknowledge that you know it's bad and that you are willing to take the consequences. If such is the case, ok. Your actions after should reflect that.
@@annemiller8227 I think the student was displaying a common issue - being worried about things outside of one's control. To be more precise, essentially asking for the police to be a crime prevention unit to a great extent. The problem with that is that the police generally responds to crime only after it has initiated. Essentially, in game terms, they always go second. When you're going second, you are likely going to have to first respond to something rather than initiate something. Which means, something already happened, and now you have to deal with the aftermath. The problem with what he's suggesting is that he's seemingly blind to what the proposal also does - open the door to tyranny. That's something that tends to happen sometimes with some proposed solutions. It opens the door for tyranny. It's part of why S-ism seems to keep coming back. The people who want to help the unfortunate sometimes are fools that don't know what it is they're asking for. They're blind.

They have friends who are also same LGBTQ and we were living in TX. I think talking amongst themselves they all had the same concerns. Some of them DID have parents who reacted physically but these were parents who had done so on other matters. I took in more than one friend who was kicked out bc that's usually my kind of reaction. Parents are going to react similar to this as they would for other infractions viewed in a similar vein. I would have been very very upset if I found out they were drinking and driving. My biggest criticism was dating before 16 years old regardless of which gender you like. That was a rule in my family. No drinking and no dating before 16 years old. But I think as a group everyone starts to think all parents react the same which can be a little unfair to parents who are trying to be fair and good parents

But the concern that I think we both see is that teachers are being put in the role of "the state" and we should be careful about how much we want "the state" to take over matters. A capitalistic job taught him a good lesson and now he works outside at uhaul in the hot sun without complaining! I worry that these privileged kids are our "future"

Regarding term limits, I think a far better and effective policy would be that if you choose to run for a higher office, you must resign your current office. The idea that a politician can take one year to 18 months to run for president while pretending to still do the job as a congressman is ludicrous, and if they can then the job description of congressman is woefully light.

I see a lot of comments complaining about the students with phones. Obviously those commentators have massive, massive balls and have never experienced nervousness getting in front of a huge crowd of people, spotlight shining on them, cameras turned to them, and be able to confidently ask a well-structured question (maybe even with multiple segments within it) to ask to someone that they either dislike greatly or are hugely starstruck by. Sad that those commentators are not capable of putting themselves in a young person's shoes to see the very obvious reason why they are using their phones to take note of their questions.
This is good, but even better would be if more of the students could ask questions without reading them off cell phones. We used to do that in college lecture Q & A before the internet existed. 🙂 Also, being prepared enough to do a little intelligent back and forth might be nice as well.
As someone who has social anxiety, I can see why some people would use their phone. When everyone turns to look at you, you've got a spotlight on you, and there's a camera in your face- sometimes the brain just blanks on the question you really wanted to ask.
No, soon you will see them come up the mic and just play a tiktok video of them asking the question. They really don't know how to interact with a person without hiding behind their phones.

The problem is what they are teaching in university. I am surprised by the questions that are obvious. I am older, but knew these answers at a younger age. It tells me that the younger adults are not receiving an education. It seems to be a lop sided ideology. They need to think for themselves and feel free to ask without fear. I believe some introduction to a faith based education is important.

I do believe that the older siblings should be helping to take care of the younger siblings, but my big brother and I were always told not to. he was not my keeper and I am not my kid brother’s keeper. We were both supposed to be best friends to each other and not role models or helpers. Even when my big brother, with me or me with my little brother, simply trying to keep each other in check, off the road and safe, or respectful of our parents, we were constantly told by our parents not to. “You are not his father! You are his brother. Stop being a parent.“ Is a phrase my big brother, and I would often hear from Mum and Dad. We were supposed to leave all of that to them, even when they were not in the room. We were also told not to have any physical arguments. While I do agree that we should not let our arguments get so physical that they can harm each other, we were never supposed to lay hands on each other, and I do believe that that might have stunted some of our development as young men. I guess we were supposed to be more like the Ned Flanders family from The Simpsons. I think all of this might’ve stunted some of our development as young men for a time. What do you think Ben? Are brothers supposed to help the parents in taking care of one another and be able to have a bit of physical play with boundaries, or our brother is supposed to simply be soft, best friends? My brothers and I were never supposed to do any of that and even these days I have quite a bit of reservation and hesitation, with what is acceptable and not physically. I study child abuse cases and from what I have seen a parent, parents or step parents that are abusive are abusive because they are abusive. I haven’t really run into a case where a child was being abused for being gay and otherwise the parent child relationship would’ve been fine. I’ve seen it where psycho horrible parents accused young young kids of being gay when the kids were like 5 years old and not old enough to have a sexuality. That was a weird attempt to try and excuse teachers being inappropriate and keeping the parents shut out.
Half of society puts pressure on the parents for raising their children to fit in with their biological gender roles! Father teaches boy to be a man because thats how the world will see him! Mother raises the girl to be a respectable proper lady! If your children grow up to be social deviants and disrespectful POS THEN thats on you!

Because not everyone is a fantastic public speaker and there’s a time crunch here, Ben doesn’t have time to listen to students trying to structure a question off the top of their head when they could easily just look at their notes.

In the terms he is talking about, why every election season stress over getting the perfect person for the job, when you can make it so that even an the average Joe can do good at the job?

I find it troubling that many of these college kids think that it is a teacher's job to keep any student's secrets. That is NOT what you are there for. You can be friendly to students, but you are not there to be their friend. Even if you are 22 and teaching in high school, as a teacher, you have to separate yourself as an adult and take your duties as a teacher seriously and teach.
Honestly I liked Ben's answer. I think the student was talking about in cultures where beating and or killing if LGBTQ is accepted (like Iran)
What I found troubling was that he said kids who were LGBTQ were "more likely to be beaten (inferring here in the US).
If a parent is going to beat a child being or not being LGBTQ is not a factor as they would have been raising their child this way long before the child said or did anything LGBTQ

Essentially, the request to keep a secret is beyond the duties of the teacher. If the teacher takes that risk, they would have to accept the consequences of that risk. It's kind of like doing something bad, but beforehand, you acknowledge that you know it's bad and that you are willing to take the consequences. If such is the case, ok. Your actions after should reflect that.
@@annemiller8227 I think the student was displaying a common issue - being worried about things outside of one's control. To be more precise, essentially asking for the police to be a crime prevention unit to a great extent. The problem with that is that the police generally responds to crime only after it has initiated. Essentially, in game terms, they always go second. When you're going second, you are likely going to have to first respond to something rather than initiate something. Which means, something already happened, and now you have to deal with the aftermath.
The problem with what he's suggesting is that he's seemingly blind to what the proposal also does - open the door to tyranny. That's something that tends to happen sometimes with some proposed solutions. It opens the door for tyranny. It's part of why S-ism seems to keep coming back. The people who want to help the unfortunate sometimes are fools that don't know what it is they're asking for. They're blind.

This child inferred a similar concern that I would "explode" when I found out.
They have friends who are also same LGBTQ and we were living in TX.
I think talking amongst themselves they all had the same concerns.
Some of them DID have parents who reacted physically but these were parents who had done so on other matters.
I took in more than one friend who was kicked out bc that's usually my kind of reaction.
Parents are going to react similar to this as they would for other infractions viewed in a similar vein.
I would have been very very upset if I found out they were drinking and driving.
My biggest criticism was dating before 16 years old regardless of which gender you like.
That was a rule in my family.

Regarding term limits, I think a far better and effective policy would be that if you choose to run for a higher office, you must resign your current office. The idea that a politician can take one year to 18 months to run for president while pretending to still do the job as a congressman is ludicrous, and if they can then the job description of congressman is woefully light.

I see a lot of comments complaining about the students with phones. Obviously those commentators have massive, massive balls and have never experienced nervousness getting in front of a huge crowd of people, spotlight shining on them, cameras turned to them, and be able to confidently ask a well-structured question (maybe even with multiple segments within it) to ask to someone that they either dislike greatly or are hugely starstruck by. Sad that those commentators are not capable of putting themselves in a young person's shoes to see the very obvious reason why they are using their phones to take note of their questions.

As someone who has social anxiety, I can see why some people would use their phone. When everyone turns to look at you, you've got a spotlight on you, and there's a camera in your face- sometimes the brain just blanks on the question you really wanted to ask.

The problem is what they are teaching in university. I am surprised by the questions that are obvious. I am older, but knew these answers at a younger age. It tells me that the younger adults are not receiving an education. It seems to be a lop sided ideology. They need to think for themselves and feel free to ask without fear. I believe some introduction to a faith based education is important.
Kids got lazy, they don't want to think anymore, they want to google everything.

I totally agree, Ben, and I think this is something my older brother and I both had to deal with. I do believe that the older siblings should be helping to take care of the younger siblings, but my big brother and I were always told not to. he was not my keeper and I am not my kid brother’s keeper. We were both supposed to be best friends to each other and not role models or helpers. Even when my big brother, with me or me with my little brother, simply trying to keep each other in check, off the road and safe, or respectful of our parents, we were constantly told by our parents not to. “You are not his father! You are his brother. Stop being a parent.“ Is a phrase my big brother, and I would often hear from Mum and Dad. We were supposed to leave all of that to them, even when they were not in the room. We were also told not to have any physical arguments. While I do agree that we should not let our arguments get so physical that they can harm each other, we were never supposed to lay hands on each other, and I do believe that that might have stunted some of our development as young men. I guess we were supposed to be more like the Ned Flanders family from The Simpsons. I think all of this might’ve stunted some of our development as young men for a time. What do you think Ben? Are brothers supposed to help the parents in taking care of one another and be able to have a bit of physical play with boundaries, or our brother is supposed to simply be soft, best friends? My brothers and I were never supposed to do any of that and even these days I have quite a bit of reservation and hesitation, with what is acceptable and not physically. I would probably be seen as a bit of a softer man who is learning to be a bit more strong with my words and with my body, but I’m 25 and only now learning this stuff. All of this, while my little brother, eight years younger, is a lot more disrespectful and physical, and forceful with his words. I study child abuse cases and from what I have seen a parent, parents or step parents that are abusive are abusive because they are abusive. I haven’t really run into a case where a child was being abused for being gay and otherwise the parent child relationship would’ve been fine. I’ve seen it where psycho horrible parents accused young young kids of being gay when the kids were like 5 years old and not old enough to have a sexuality. That was a weird attempt to try and excuse teachers being inappropriate and keeping the parents shut out.

I have a question myself. Why do all of these students stand up there and read off of their phones if they’re really sincere about their heartfelt questions, they would not need to read it.
Because not everyone is a fantastic public speaker and there’s a time crunch here, Ben doesn’t have time to listen to students trying to structure a question off the top of their head when they could easily just look at their notes.
I know if I'd been asking a question, I would be PRETENDING to read it off my phone, just to avoid looking at all those eyes looking at me.

This is essentially how I approached school, now my case in school was and probably will be different then most people since I am a pediatric brain cancer survivor, but how I didn't want to always learn how to do something perfectly but how to fix it when and/or if it goes wrong. to give you an example of the top of my head, while a different kind of school, when I was learning to parallel park I wanted to know in addition to doing it right the first time but how to fix a mistake midway, since to error is human so it's not a bad idea to know how to fix any inevitable mistakes that will eventually occur.
In the terms he is talking about, why every election season stress over getting the perfect person for the job, when you can make it so that even an the average Joe can do good at the job?
