John was such an integral part of Queen. Quiet, unassuming but he wrote some awesome songs. Still married to his best friend since 1975 and still lives in the same house he bought for them.
And John is still married to Veronica for over 50 years now. All of the members play multiple instruments. Mrs coach does not need a field sobriety test. She is just very observant. great reaction!
John didn't sing on his song, he just lip synced in the video. But he did play the electric piano. Freddie refused saying " why would I play that thing when I have a grand piano"!? So John went home and learned how to play the electric piano. It was a big hit and was played at a lot of weddings in the 70s and 80s. It could have been corny but Freddie's vocal is perfection. It is part of a trio of perfect songs on A Night at the Opera, I'm In Love With My Car, You're My Best Friend and '39. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Love it. Roger on the other hand felt differently.when he had to sing the line ""I'm happy at home " roger quipped "We're a rock band not a knitting circle. It did well in the charts. Yes 50 years for Mr and Mrs Deacon in a few weeks, they have 6 children 2 in music xx
Mrs Coach is NOT very far off! "You're My Best Friend" wasn't on The Partridge Family, but it was done by Donny & Marie on their show! You can still find that one on YT !
As a 7th grader when this came out, this was the biggest reason why I bought their Night at the Opera album. It was my first album purchase, been hooked ever since
All of them could play multiple instruments. Roger, for example, played all instruments and sung in two songs. One of them you will love, Mr. Coach, It's called Fight from the Inside, from the 1977 album News of the world. Roger doing some metal screams and the guitar work is gold.
I'm thankful for your great Queen reactions, Coach & Mrs Coach. This group was so talented that they played all sorts of instruments. For example, Brian played a harp for Love of My Life, while he twitted John by asking for a double bass for 39. So John turned up with one in the studio a few days later! He also played it on the Who Wants to Live Forever track and that's only a couple of examples. Let's all be thankful for Queen. 😃
John did sing once in a great while. He sang in somebody to love the studio version. He also sang in live aid on radio gaga. He actually has a nice voice in my opinion.
He does have a nice voice. Check out his singing on the live video of "Liar" where he shares the mike with Freddie, proving that John's mike was NOT turned off in live performances. It was just John's preference not to sing.
John's songs are one of my favorites on the queen's discography... i feel like his writing style is very unique , it is simple but really effective , Freddie has stated on occasions that he loved singing deaky's songs.... if you want more of a rocker by him... check out the song "Spread Your Wings"
This is s sweet song and yes it is indeed written for John's wife, Veronica. Mrs. Coach is right, it might have been a commercial and certainly could have been in a movie or TV show because Queen songs do show up in those places rather often. I hope you both had a nice Thanksgiving. John probably wasn't really singing, he has a microphone but it is usually turned off so while it looks like he is singing and may very well be, you usually can;t hear his voice. Freddie had an electric piano that he hated so he gifted it to John who taught himself how to play it. He wrote this song on that piano and thought that was the only way it sounded right, so he wanted it on the studio track. Freddie refused to play that piano because as I said above, he hated it, so John played the piano for this song. Roger and Brian really didn't think this was a "Queen song" so neither one was really interested in recording it. Roger said the lyrics were not for a rock band particularly the "I'm happy at home" part. Freddie loved singing these kinds of songs and in fact this song became one of Queen's biggest hits. I have always liked this song and I never felt like it didn't belong on my classic rock radio stations.
It's one of my favourite songs. I'm still impressed by how much work they put into it regarding its guitar work, the backing vocals, the bass-line (which is phenomenal), the EQ, the mixing, the chord progression, how cleverly crafted it is... and all of that just to give us three minutes of, as you correctly point out, 'easy-listening music.' Remarkable!
Yes, John played electric piano in this one! Freddie refused to play it because he hated it, thinking it was a shame to use that instead of a grand piano, so John learned to play it for the song. He never sang on the group's records, so i think he was singing the words just for the video. :)
Thank you for another amazing Queen reaction this is a beautiful love song and I can tell that U2 really love each other and that is something special that is one of the songs in Australia by Queen that is played on the radio a lot keep up the fantastic Queen reactions
Happy Thanksgiving Mr and Mrs Coach. Awesome reaction. You're my best friend is a commercial hit. We all related to this song wherever you are. A good feel song. All four members were excellent song writers on their own right. 🕊️🙏👍❤️

YMBF is a sweet song and a lovely gift from John to his wife Veronica (they have 6 kids together) but Roger wasn't happy singing the line "I'm happy at home".😅 He ranted: "I don't want that f**ing line on here! We're not singing 'happy at home', for f**'s sake! We are a rock and roll band not some damned women's Institute/knitting club"🤣🤣 But Freddie supported John and Rog had to sing it anyway... 😂
Freddie bought a Wurlitzer electric piano, but decided he didn't like the sound it made, so John took it home and taught himself to play piano on it... and this is the song that came out of it. He also played bass on the recording. It has featured in a whole host of TV programmes and films... there's a list on the Wikipedia page for the song.
John is very talented and can play many instruments, and piano is a great example of this (you can also see him playing drums in One Vision). He mentioned in an interview that he couldn’t sing. I absolutely love this song; it's definitely one of my favourites written by deaky (Misfire too lol). I'm going to a Queen cover band concert soon and i hope they'll play this song too, though i doubt it. Thanks for this reaction and i hope you guys have a good day !! (Ps: '39 next!!!)

I love, love, love, this song from Queen, and I am so glad that John Deacon wrote it and so very glad they recorded it and play it live in their concerts. it was mentioned in the comments already that there was quote remembered by Brian May saying: I can remember Roger going: "I don't want that f*g line on here! We're not singing 'happy at home', for f*'s sake! It's rock and roll! What is this? The Women's Institute?" LMAO! Yes, some parts of that video have some funny moments; I had to look up that video because I remember hearing that quote from a UA-cam video titled "From Rags to Rhapsody" I found the entire video interesting to watch, it is close to an hour in viewing time though. May I suggest you watch that on your own time, or you can react to it if you wish. That's up to you. I can't recall if Roger had anything to say about the song 39 written by Brian May, it is partially featured in the video (Before they talk about the song "You're My Best Friend") and Roger is seen playing a tambourine and bass drum only and he's singing with Freddie in some parts, and that song is not a rock and roll song either but it is a good sing-a-long song at a Queen concert, I know we all sang along with that song when we recently attended a concert. If you are interested in watching on your own or reacting to the song 39 written by Brian May, there is a good one I like titled "Queen - ‘39 Live in Houston: 11/12/1977" Which means you'll see a slight change from their long hair in the 70s hair styles, a couple of haircuts can be seen in that video, not too short but there is a slight change in looks. I will kindly leave you some background about the song I found from the internet: The song's protagonist has likely traveled through space and experienced time dilation, as described in Einstein's theory of special relativity. The song is about a man who travels on a journey and returns home to find his lover has died, even though he only aged by one year. Brian May has said that most songs have more than one meaning, and that they often try to convey something personal about the writer's life. At some point in his early years of Queen, we need to remember that Brian gave up his PhD in astronomy to pursue rock music. May also sings the song on the album. Brian eventually went back to school to earn his PhD. May I suggest you have the lyrics available on the side because it is written by Brian May if you have a background knowledge about Einstein's theory of relativity well then, your good to go. No judgement on Mrs. Coach, she's such a sweetheart, there were a handful of good TV shows to watch back then, I remember the Partridge family show, though I was quite young at the time, I only found that show entertaining and we watched many reruns of that show, and I can honestly say this song was never performed on that show. You're My Best Friend was released in 1975, it got a lot of radio play for sure, I was in my first decade of life by then, ha! This song has been featured on television shows though, The Simpsons, Will and Grace, The King of Queens; yes, those are the only ones I remember right away. Yes, that is John playing the piano for the video, for the recording though it was an electric piano, Freddie was strongly against playing it, so John learned it, played it, and we have a hit guys! An easy listening feel-good song! I love it! Queen band members CAN play multiple instruments, we just don't see it too often on queen videos. Just so you know Mr. and Mrs. Coach. I am looking forward to more! Take care and peace. ☮
Wow, great comment, very informative. We appreciate the amount of time you put into providing all this detail. 39 is a song that is requested a fair amount and is on our radar. We truly appreciate you very much!
John said (1977): "Well, Freddie didn't like the electric piano, so I took it home and I started to learn on the electric piano and basically that's the song that came out you know when I was learning to play piano. It was written on that instrument and it sounds best on that." BTW: On video John is seen playing the grand piano which Freddie used when they performed the so ng live. (from the Summer Gigs 1976 Tour up to the end of the North American leg of The Game Tour in 1980.) The video was filmed in April 1976 at Elstree Studios, near London. It shows the band in a huge ballroom surrounded by over one thousand candles, including a huge chandelier hung from the ceiling. It was so hot and humid during the filming that even big air-fans didn't help much and 👑 boys were sweating and melting, just like hundreds of candles they were surrounded by ... 😅
Mr & Mrs Teddy Bear 🤣🤣🤣 Didn’t like this song for years thinking it was twee. But Freddie’s conviction and beautiful vocals have won me over! The way he holds the microphone in the video! Such attention to detail and musical craftsmanship. The whole band are so together. The sum greater than the parts. 🎶🎶
Thanks Coach & Mrs Coach! One of my favorite songs from Queen and one of the underrated guitar solos! It fit so perfect into the song with no over indulgence as guitarists like to do! I try but need more practice 😂
You'll see/hear John sing on occasion, altho it's my understanding they kept his mic turned down. You'll see him sing during Live Aid, the Don't Stop Me Now video and Somebody to Love video among other clips. I think I read somewhere John taught himself how to play the piano to write this song.
Another trivia: Roger was protesting because of the lyrics but Freddie refused to play Wurlitzer electric piano. He was grumbling: "Why playing that thing when we have an amazing grand piano? 😂 I'm not playing it." So John brought keyboards home and learned to play it himself ... 🥰 Our sweet 👑 boys ... 🤩
@@chicochi3haha Rog was a rock star from head to toe 😅 Even when he was a teenager he said that he wanted to become a rock star ... So you can imagine his frustration with the line"I'm happy at home" 😜😁
great reaction teddy bear sorry I mean coach lol love this song, fun fact Freddie did not like playing the electric piano that is why john is playing it hope you had a great thanksgiving.
Freddie hated the electric piano so John simply taught himself to play it and did it for this song! Coach- I know how much you love Brian’s guitar playing. You must react to the video BIJOU. 99% is just Brian’s guitar. It is amazing. It’s a song on Innuendo, which was the last album they made with Freddie. Another great live is PLAY THE GAME Live at Montreal 1981. For Mrs Coach- The Love of my Life live performance at Wembley 1986 is the best. It also shows the amazing stage presence Freddie had with his audience. It’s one of a kind
Hi folks! I was going to be very surprised if you hadn't heard this one as it's turning up in commercials these days. (Not sure how I feel about that. The Doc had his "Driven By You" used by Chevrolet some years back and he got lots of guff for it. I dunno.) No, John is not singing. It looks like it, but no, he never sings. (The Partridge Family was way before this song.) Yes, John wrote this; Freddie was given an electric piano. He turned his nose up at it and give it to John. John promptly writes this million-seller. Thanks, Freddie! And don't be fooled by what you see in videos. They don't always reflect reality. John played the piano, but no, he does not sing. He never sings, ever. They set him up a mic, always, but he does not sing. Ever. He's said it himself. He can't sing a note. Love you guys!
Great reaction love this John song ❤ he learned to play the electric piano as Freddie wouldn’t entertain the idea of playing an inferior instrument to his fabulous grand piano 😂😂 they are all multi instrumentalists xx
Coach, your lovely Mrs Coach was almost right: YMBF has featured in television, film, and other media, such as The Simpsons and Family Guy.😮 Soooo .... 🤔🙃 I think you need to give your lovely best half a big "I'm sorry, you were almost correct." 🤩
Hey team ‼️great reaction to an exceptional song 💥I’m in Mrs coach’s corner on this one. After hearing this years ago the first thing I thought of was the partridge family. Either the vibe or they had a similar sounding song. MORE queen asap please 😀
Great reaction! as usual 🙃They have all written different amazing songs, John for example has written (apart from this song): I Want To Break Free, Spread Your Wings, Friends Will Be Friends (with Freddie), Another One Bites The Dust, Misfire and many more. Maybe you'd like to listen to: "Seven seas of Rhye", one of Queen's first hits, many thanks! see you next time
John doesn't sing , although he may mime a few words or backing vocals b, but rarely . No, Mrs Coach is absolutely spot-on when she said it reminded her of the Partridge Family , don't you remember the mother Shirley Jones sitting at the piano , it was the same type of electric piano . Queen has been my favorite band since 74 , Brian is my God and Queen are my Religion! Nice comparison Mrs. Coach !
I don't know if you have done this already or if you would consider it, but check out Brian and Roger's solo stuff. Brian May has an official You Tube channel and there are a couple of songs on there that might suit Coach! :-) One is Brians cover of "Since You've Been Gone" from 'The Brian May Band - Live at the Brixton Academy'. This was in the early 1990's just after Fredddie passed away. There is another song you might like, an official video of a song Brian wrote as a TV ad for Ford cars in the UK, called 'Driven By You'. And worry not...they are both upbeat songs! :-) And It's Brian, so you know there's going to be some fancy guitar work on them! Then on the Queen Official channel, there are some videos of Roger with his band The Cross. You might like 'Shove it!' :-) The hair styles will tell you this was 1980's, when the band members of Queen were all doing their own things. I haven't seen all the band member's solo stuff, so other people might be able to recommend other videos?
John didnt think he sang well. It has been said that john’s mic was not always turned on and one of their producers said nobody was upset that john didnt want to sing.
This was the theme song for "The Courtship of Eddie's Father " about the same time frame as the Partridge Family. John only sings very backup. John himself said he isn't a singer and Roger agreed 😂
UGH this was NOT the theme song for "The Courtship of Eddie's Father." That show was on from 1969-1972 and had a completely different song. Likewise "The Partridge Family" went from 1970-1974. Queen wrote "You're My Best Friend" in 1975.
Actually nobody's singing as they are miming to a recording. John only did the occasional backing bits on stage but didn't sing on recordings as, by his own admision he couldn't sing.
OK, hold up! After the million Queen songs you guys have done you’re just getting to this one now?!… You’ve been into the real deep cuts of Queen for a while now some of them frankly probably not even worth hearing, but You’re my best friend is one of their best songs ever and one of their most popular! No criticism to you guys, you’re reacting for the first time, but I’m just surprised you haven’t done this one… I would put this in the top 5 or definitely 10 of their songs. Oh, and by the way, as always, early Queen is by far the best! LOL 😆
Yeah, sad but true...so many suggestions for songs, and we're just hitting them as we can. Agreed this is a really good one, and we'd also rank it highly.
John not only played keyboard he also played rhythm guitar and drums. He's so highly underrated as to his contribution to the band.
John played all the guitar parts on the studio version of Another bites the dust.
I believe true Queen fans ( us since the 70's) always appreciated John.

Coach says, Mrs. Coach needs a sobriety test..... this is coming from a whisky drinking man 🤣🤣🤣
Oldie and a goodie. It's so Queen. Thanks for the review. Keep em coming. Boomer Soomer
I've got a song for Mrs coach called "GOIN BACK" it's not a song released by queen but Freddies solo album also happy late thanksgiving 😊❤
John said (1977): "Well, Freddie didn't like the electric piano, so I took it home and I started to learn on the electric piano and basically that's the song that came out you know when I was learning to play piano. It was written on that instrument and it sounds best on that."
BTW: On video John is seen playing the grand piano which Freddie used when they performed the so ng live. (from the Summer Gigs 1976 Tour up to the end of the North American leg of The Game Tour in 1980.)
The video was filmed in April 1976 at Elstree Studios, near London. 😅
Very cool. The song was outstanding and sounded great on that piano.
John's mike was NOT turned down.
Another trivia: Roger was protesting because of the lyrics but Freddie refused to play Wurlitzer electric piano. He was grumbling: "Why playing that thing when we have an amazing grand piano? 😂 I'm not playing it."
So John brought keyboards home and learned to play it himself ... 🥰
Our sweet 👑 boys ... 🤩
LOL...their creative differences are funny in hindsight.
Roger said,"I won't sing 'I'm happy at home.' We're a rock band, not a knitting club."
@@chicochi3haha Rog was a rock star from head to toe 😅 Even when he was a teenager he said that he wanted to become a rock star ... So you can imagine his frustration with the line"I'm happy at home" 😜😁
Yes John is playing!!! Freddie REFUSED to play the electric dohickiy that the song is playing. John was either lip singing or singing the harmony.
great reaction teddy bear sorry I mean coach lol love this song, fun fact Freddie did not like playing the electric piano that is why john is playing it hope you had a great thanksgiving.
LOL...thanks. We did, and hope you did also.
Thanks so much!
Great choice as always with Queen 💜 this song is for my husband lol
Good to know. Thank you!
Great reaction love this John song ❤ he learned to play the electric piano as Freddie wouldn’t entertain the idea of playing an inferior instrument to his fabulous grand piano 😂😂 they are all multi instrumentalists xx
You are our best friends! Thank you for this entertaining reaction, Freddie would love your funny side. Pls, check out The Miracle.
Thank you so much!
Coach, your lovely Mrs Coach was almost right: YMBF has featured in television, film, and other media, such as The Simpsons and Family Guy.😮
Soooo .... 🤔🙃 I think you need to give your lovely best half a big "I'm sorry, you were almost correct." 🤩
🤣
Hey team ‼️great reaction to an exceptional song 💥I’m in Mrs coach’s corner on this one. After hearing this years ago the first thing I thought of was the partridge family. Either the vibe or they had a similar sounding song. MORE queen asap please 😀
It actually does have a Patridge Family vibe.
Cancel our field sobriety tests. At least for now 😌
I know that John had to play the piano, because Freddie hated the sound of the electric piano and refused to play it
hey COACHCAT TV good song - next maybe UNDERPRESSURE
Great reaction! as usual 🙃They have all written different amazing songs, John for example has written (apart from this song): I Want To Break Free, Spread Your Wings, Friends Will Be Friends (with Freddie), Another One Bites The Dust, Misfire and many more. Maybe you'd like to listen to: "Seven seas of Rhye", one of Queen's first hits, many thanks! see you next time
Thank you!
John doesn't sing , although he may mime a few words or backing vocals b, but rarely . No,
Mrs Coach is absolutely spot-on when she said it reminded her of the Partridge Family , don't you remember the mother Shirley Jones sitting at the piano , it was the same type of electric piano .
Queen has been my favorite band since 74 , Brian is my God and Queen are my Religion!
Nice comparison Mrs. Coach !
It did have a Partridge Family sound, in fairness.
Thanks for those. We have done a few of the solo works but will certainly do more.
You just saw that John sings in a video, but you didn't hear him. I think he just pretended to sing
We could all pretend to sing on it, as they are miming.
Actually nobody's singing as they are miming to a recording. John only did the occasional backing bits on stage but didn't sing on recordings as, by his own admision he couldn't sing.
you now need to listen to Queens Christmas song "Thank God its Christmas" oh you have lol my bad
It's ok, we have a hard time keeping up, also. LOL
John doesn’t sing, but he does have a mic like on live performances
Is it wrong to like the video BEFORE you even watch it? Asking for a friend...
It should be mandatory. LOL
I think you two are sitting next to your best friend.
Reaction to nmixx Tiny desk Korea!!
This video is lip-sync. John only sang in live performances. Everyone in the video is pretending to be singing.
John's mic was mostly off. 😁
@@andreakormosnekacso4804No it was not.
Poor Mrs. Coach:
“Field Sobriety Test”!🫠
