The Ferrari had worse BOP than Toyota from Le Mans on. At Le Mans, Toyota got more power and a bigger engergy tank, and then after Le Mans Ferrari got extra weight and a power reduction
@arifalamin714 if a car only won a single race in a series, and only barely won that single race it’s not dominant. You’re in everyone’s comment saying this, Ferrari got absolutely curb stomped by Toyota this year.
I just would like to correct a small part about the aero performance window. The downforce level SCz are not measured in straight-line but in several yawed/rolled conditions.

I would not call the 499p dominant during the 2023 wec season. they won 1 out of the 7 races and didnt win any of the championships, which is what really matters. the only race they won was le mans and that was because of BoP nerfing the Toyota too hard while the ferrari was seemingly unaffected by BoP. even with the hard BoP nerf, toyota's pace wasn't far off the ferraris' pace and were still in contention of winning with a slower car. it was the mistake in the closing minutes of the race that guaranteed the ferrari the win at le mans. A race car that is actually dominant is like this year's RB19
True. And Toyota got hit from behind at night...and second Toyota made an error near the end of the event. Still, that said, Ferrari did better the next year with Toyota in better form. Net result: Toyota still one the chamionship as I remember.
Won 1 out of 7 Races. Toyota won 6. How was it dominant? Never disliked a video on this chanell since im watching (4 years). But I despise clickbait. So here you go, always a first.
Are we seriously going to say that the 499P is a dominant car when it only won 1 race, managed 2 poles and 1 fastest lap... and won only because of being favoured? The 499P's hubrid system was different compared to the others since it was developed by Ferrari with F1 tech in mind. Toyota somehow got a last minute BOP change and let's not forget that if the number 7 Toyota didn't get involved in an accident with the GT3 car, the results could have been different. Saying the 499P is dominant is like saying the 787B was dominant
2:38 to clear up discrepancy and add detail that you didnt bother adding because it makes Porsche look lazy by comparison to fit the narrative of this video, Porsche HAD to buy a chassis because the 963 and 499P are technically in two different categories. The Ferrari is an LMh car whereas the Porsche is a LMDh car. Porsche built their car to the LMDh specifications which calls for manufacturers to use a premade chassis from 4 different manufacturers. Ferrari being in the LMh class, they have free reign to design the chassis and built it to however they want. Thats the difference you chose to emit
I stayed up to watch the whole race. Everyone in the GTP class had problems to the point where just about every car had a chance to win, if they just kept the racing clean and hope their car didn't break. Some time in morning before the sun came up, it was clear that Toyota and Ferrari were the front runners and they swapped the lead many times. I believe the Toyota was trying to catch the Ferrari in the last hour and then ran a corner wide. That sealed the deal as they were too far away to catch the Ferrari. It is worth noting that they changed the full course caution procedure at Le Mans for 2023. Previously they had 3 pace cars about equally spaced around the track. You line up behind the first one you run into to and don't pass any cars until the caution is lifted. This helped keep the running order the same and somewhat maintained gaps between cars. The new caution procedure is the same as IMSA. They line up the cars behind the 3 pace cars. When it is safe they then get rid of 2 of the pace cars and have the whole field behind 1 pace car. Next they allow cars that are not on the lead lap in their class to do a wave around and get 1 lap back. Then they reorder the field by class like they would at the start of the race. And finally they throw the green. Yup. They basically hit the reset button every time a full course caution comes out. I'm sorry but Le Mans is suppose to be prestigious. You won because you were the fastest throughout the 24 hours. Letting all the other cars catch the leader at the end and running a sprint to the finish just feels cheap. In other words, it felt like watching a NASCAR race.
Well that's not quite how the SC system worked. They had to be in front of their class leader to get a lap "back". So that can't apply to the Hypercar class since nobody can be in front of the leader and if they were they weren't lapped yet anyways.
Ferrari’s DOMINANT Race Car! (it won one race where Toyota got their usual LM luck and died, in the other 6 rounds of WEC, the 499P got curbstompted by the GR010)
I dont think we watched thesame season of wec for you to call the 499P dominant 💀 Edit: Nah he didn't watch wec, these cars have 680hp but according to scott it has 1000hp lmao
Seriously I think Ferrari had enough of him or was angry at him for another video so he made this video hyping a pretty much crap Ferrari race car compared to Toyota. Toyota was dominant. They totally dominated this season. Le Mans was handed to Ferrari via weight penalties and Toyota's #1 car getting taken out. #7 Toyota wins Le Mans easily had they not gotten crashed into.
9x8 to me looks the best. Just because it is so different and trying for full ground effect and no wing. Even though i placed last in the full time teams.
Its great to see Ferrari back at sportscar racing. Im definitely not a Ferrari fan but its great to see them return. I always hoped in the LMP1 days that a brand like Ferrari would join. Now finally seeing a ferrari on track makes the already great competition in WEC even greater! Unfortunately they didn't want to race in the Rolex24 with the 499P. I would like seeing some WEC cars going to major IMSA races like the Rolex24. Maybe in the future?
Having been a major part of the Aston Martin supercar, I wonder if (assuming he hasn't retired by then) Adrian Newey would be up for building a hypercar for Red Bull for around 2029. Max has said that he might leave F1 then if it's no longer interesting to him, and there's talk about him wanting to do Le Mans, but it won't mean that he'd necessarily want to leave Red Bull. So picture a Red Bull hypercar with Max and a couple of other top racers in WEC!
I mean technically he already has, if i remember correctly Adrian designed the Aston Martin Valkrie, making him already in the design for a hypercar considering the AM will be in the hypercar class for 2025

A lot of the details within the video are wrong. Porsche didn’t opt to buy in a chassis it was part of the LMDh regs. The 499P only won due to the BoP changes. Needs some refinement.

Does winning a race make it a dominant car? This is a joke, because it was evident that Toyota swept Ferrari in every race except Le Man's, where the BOP difference was more than clear.
As much as i like BOP as a racing fan, the engineer inside me wants to see them without handbreaks at the drawing board again. The Ferrari is genius. Having the hybrid at the front means it runs cooler, so you can stress it more. Not having a linked axle between ICE and EV seperates mechanical constraints of both power characteristics. So you don't have to run parts that hold both. Going 900V with the EV is also genius. It makes the isolation of the wires and connectors beafier, but the system overall lighter and faster in response. I don't know how exactly they recover but higher voltage should allow to recover more power at higher speed. Which means a bit less heat inside the breaks.
This car is not dominant. It is probably quicker than Toyota over short stints, but double stints it wasn’t as good. It also isn’t 1000BHP. it can probably make 1000BHP, but BOP Capped them at 671BHP.
Ferrari was hardly dominate at Le Mans They were lucky to finish the race. They didn't have testing done for that long a run and had starting problems from Pit stops. Almost every hypercar team led the race at some point. Toyota still won the championship as well. I'm happy to see the competition, but it's certainly competition, not a domination.
I think LS2 will have a better season, especially after winter spent studying and learning from mistakes and driving with less adrenaline. The best thing I did for my sim driving making too many mistakes was a break and a lot of studying
There is an error around 8:47 - the downforce numbers are measured across various attitudes of ride heights, roll angles, and yaw angles not "measured in a straight line". The various aerodynamic effects of the strakes at these different attitudes are accounted for in the measuring process.
@ 8:44 they may have noticed the Dirt Late Models here in USA. Over time they have changed the way they drive and look using the entire car as a wing of sorts but only in the corners specifically.
Everyone who say Toyota has lost Le Mans because of Bop clearly haven't watched the race Toyota had bad strategies early in the race during the rain, while Ferrari was perfect Toyota #8 had temperature issues and lost tons of time just before the #7 crash, then a Safety Car helped the #8 to be back in the leading group Toyota #8 was super fast at the end of the race and was closing the gap with Ferrari, but car had some brake issue and Hirakawa had a crash (in the same lap he did best sector 1 and 2) Ferrari had two power cycling in the pit stop. Ferrari 51 got trapped on gravel in unlucky situation, but with a strong leadership because of a brillant strategy, and lost nothing Both Ferrari and Toyota lost a car because of bad luck (A rock in the radiator and hit from behind by Lmp2 and GT respectively) Ferrari win is 100% deserved, they were better than Toyota at Le Mans
some rules seem to be cool, like that drag ratio limit, allowing cars like Peugeot to have a total different take. But just as you said, they measure the downforce in a straight line and in a wind tunnel. Peugeot's car relies heavily on the underbody of the car to generate the downforce, but then when you try to attack a curb or any bumpy track, that downforce is unreliable at all. Meanwhile, traditional fins and wings will give you consistent downforce and stability.
Peugeot is adding a rear wing to their car in 2024. They realized that designing a car for the Hunadiére (aka Mulsane straight) dodn't make sense for the rest of the season. The 2023 ground effect 9X8 didn't work beyond Le Mans.
Why is there understeer in the 190+ kph corners ? Just because the front two wheels are also powered at this speed this doesn’t automatically cause the car to understeer. Pls someone corrrect me and explain why it ist like that?
I never was a Ferrari fan, but what they achieved this year is spectacular indeed. Will they be even better next year or will the others catch up or overtake them? 2024 will show it to us. For me, it's Toyota all the way.
Almost didn't win Le mans. In one of the last pitstops the 51 I believe failed to start and sat in the box. After some nerve racking moments got it to move and continue the race.
@@blazi2293 it would be somewhat hilarious and absolutely infuriating if Toyota doesn't win the 24H of Le Mans anymore because of problems like that again.
These videos are just lazy. This car wasn’t even close to being dominant, it only won 1 race in the full year. Ferrari’s cars finished 3rd snd 4th in the championship. And it doesn’t have 1000hp. The cars are limited to 670hp by regulation. (This is later corrected in the video). And saying that Ferrari is using this to help designs for their F1 team is pure speculation. That would be illegal, so is quite a big claim to make. Mentioning Glickenhaus over Porsche for having V8s is also kinda funny. Because Glickenhaus doesn’t even race anymore. 8:40 is also funny. Again pure speculation not based on anything.
Could someone explain to me what is meant by “minimum corner speed” 7:05 at Le Mans? Does this mean you’re not allowed to go slower than a certain speed or did he actually mean to say maximum corner speed? Thanks:)
He means that in race pace, or qualy pace, you drive through those corners at very high speed because the car can, it's not a rule, but since you want to go as fast as you can in racing , you approach a corner at the highest speed achieveable by the car. Hope this makes sense.
I appreciate the insight into the LMH car. Genuinely, that was cool information about engine development, regulations, etc. I think you did well to cover Ferrari's potential motive here as well. That being said, I do not get your angle here. Drawing the journalistic angle of "this is a dominant car!" when they still got crushed by Toyota is a unique choice. This car won as much as their very NON-dominant F1 team.

It was sure a delight to Ferrari make a comeback to WEC with a competitive and "rapid" car, however, even with BoP it was beaten by... the dominant Toyota.
Maybe 2024 we could see Renault Alpine, Isotta Fraschini and Ferrari all challenging Toyota for 2024 FIA WEC title.
The Ferrari had worse BOP than Toyota from Le Mans on. At Le Mans, Toyota got more power and a bigger engergy tank, and then after Le Mans Ferrari got extra weight and a power reduction
The same BoP that allowed Toyota to win in Monza or to get a one-two in Bahrain even though crashing at the first corner 😂

@arifalamin714 if a car only won a single race in a series, and only barely won that single race it’s not dominant. You’re in everyone’s comment saying this, Ferrari got absolutely curb stomped by Toyota this year.
@arifalamin714 their standards are bullshit, idgaf what Ferrari thinks, barely winning one race does not make a car dominant.
I just would like to correct a small part about the aero performance window. The downforce level SCz are not measured in straight-line but in several yawed/rolled conditions.

Are u kidding?! The most dominant car in WEC 2023 is Toyota. They won all of the races except Le Man. They were the fastest car in hypercar. Just stupid BOP interfered to won Le Man
@arifalamin714but Ferrari wasn’t dominant in anything… They won Lemans and Nurburgring 24…. and that’s it.

Come on, the GR010 was the dominant car, the Ferrari was just there to gaslight people into thinking it was a close fight (it wasn't). It literally is just like the 2023 F1 season, one team won everything except one race which was won by a Ferrari
It's basically a Mazda 787B moment
"Favourable bop" they had the least horsepower on the grid in Le Mans which is one of the fastest track in the world LOL

The B.O.P helped Ferrari a lot lets not lie
And the GT3 on the green Hell was running by a German Team soooo its not really Ferrari is it
1. It wasn’t a dominant car that was the GR010 from Toyota. 2. This car doesn’t have 1000HP, rules max power to 680HP.
Ah yes, winning 1 race in a 7 race championship because of BOP regulations: DOMINANT
😂😂😂😂
BOP. Only 3 letters you need. The ACO got their fairy tale ending.
The content of this one made unsubscribe. 😂
Hey guys. Who came up with that graphic at 7:42 ??? There’s no credit 🤨🤨🤨
The energy deployment restrictions is what holding back the Hypercar class from being a worthy successor to LMP1. Especially the 190 km/h BS.
2:48 that is smooth i love it! Did ferrari make that?
Ferrari’s DOMINANT Race Car! (it won one race where Toyota got their usual LM luck and died, in the other 6 rounds of WEC, the 499P got curbstompted by the GR010)
toyota is made by german engineers anyways
"Ferrari's 1000+HP monster, except it's really 900hp, and it's only allowed to use 700hp at a time, and only above 190kph."
I dont think we watched thesame season of wec for you to call the 499P dominant 💀
Edit: Nah he didn't watch wec, these cars have 680hp but according to scott it has 1000hp lmao
499P dominant? What? I'm sorry, what?!
This is a new golden era for Wec, things you love to see
9x8 to me looks the best.
Maybe in the future?
definitely not a dominating car but its victory on le mans is some sort of redemption after so much pain in F1

Critically speaking, if u wanna call someone dominant, this one should be Toyota, which've won every.race apart from LM...
I feel like ferrari will never be dominant again, people are afraid of it in f1...they remember the Schumacher days plus ferrari is huge...so it will take the focus from f1... especially now with their sucsess in WEC

Ferrari's performance is spectacular in WEC considering this is the FIRST season that they've run this car.
Dominant? Sure bro. I’ll come back when you post about the GR010.
A lot of the details within the video are wrong. Porsche didn’t opt to buy in a chassis it was part of the LMDh regs. The 499P only won due to the BoP changes. Needs some refinement.

Ferrari in F1: Box now Box for hard idc if this is the third time this race we need to last as long as possible 🤓

How is BOP good if it's subjective? Someone from the outside decides you need to add 50kg to slow you down...
The disclaimer in the title is cute be we all know you’re not talking about their F1 car😂
Great explanation, combining tech and race in one clip.
Always great content keep it up
This car is not dominant. It is probably quicker than Toyota over short stints, but double stints it wasn’t as good. It also isn’t 1000BHP. it can probably make 1000BHP, but BOP Capped them at 671BHP.
The fact that he said it wasn't the Formula 1 car is hilariously disrespectful

There is an error around 8:47 - the downforce numbers are measured across various attitudes of ride heights, roll angles, and yaw angles not "measured in a straight line". The various aerodynamic effects of the strakes at these different attitudes are accounted for in the measuring process.
What is a power cycle @11:59?
More people need to be talking about lemans
Oh please do more on the LMH cars, these are so vastly different from the F1, so really exciting to see more about how they differ.
@ 8:44 they may have noticed the Dirt Late Models here in USA. Over time they have changed the way they drive and look using the entire car as a wing of sorts but only in the corners specifically.
The Cadillac V-Series R will always be the most iconic LMDh to me.
Like come on, that naturally aspirated V8.
Everyone who say Toyota has lost Le Mans because of Bop clearly haven't watched the race
Toyota had bad strategies early in the race during the rain, while Ferrari was perfect
Toyota #8 had temperature issues and lost tons of time just before the #7 crash, then a Safety Car helped the #8 to be back in the leading group
Toyota #8 was super fast at the end of the race and was closing the gap with Ferrari, but car had some brake issue and Hirakawa had a crash (in the same lap he did best sector 1 and 2)
Ferrari had two power cycling in the pit stop.
Ferrari 51 got trapped on gravel in unlucky situation, but with a strong leadership because of a brillant strategy, and lost nothing
Both Ferrari and Toyota lost a car because of bad luck (A rock in the radiator and hit from behind by Lmp2 and GT respectively)
Ferrari win is 100% deserved, they were better than Toyota at Le Mans
Does making an inferior car that needs massive competitive parity help count as an engineering solution?
some rules seem to be cool, like that drag ratio limit, allowing cars like Peugeot to have a total different take.
I love your Chanel and the 499 but toyota won everything but le mans so dominant os not the right word
@Driver61 Thank you for this video, above all because the words you used are well comprehensible by non english-mothertongue people as well!

Almost didn't win Le mans. In one of the last pitstops the 51 I believe failed to start and sat in the box. After some nerve racking moments got it to move and continue the race.
And the Toyota right behind it had a skill issue just a few laps prior.
and the faster of the two Toyota had to retire
@@blazi2293 it would be somewhat hilarious and absolutely infuriating if Toyota doesn't win the 24H of Le Mans anymore because of problems like that again.
1:10 this is not the winning Rindt / Gregory Ferrari 250 LM, but the Surtees / Hill Rover-BRM which came 10th in 1965.
