Horner: "Adrian is the only one who can see air". Actually that was first said in the 1940s by Lockheed of Kelly Johnson, future designer of the SR-71 and U2 and many others in the "Skunkworks".
It's really interesting to see how creative Newey has been through the years, impressive. Also they had so much freedom in the past with active suspension, aero etc. I wonder how fast the cars would be today if they got more freedom. But especially I wonder what innovations they would come up with.
Great video… to think that he was able inspire so much innovation across the field makes me think if F1 can get Newey to design the blueprint for the next regulations. Imagine every team having a Newey concept to start with. It would be beautiful!
Newey wasn't involved in the FW12 from 89. He started at Williams with the FW14, two years later. Around that time, he was with March/Leyton House, building the aerodynamically most advanced cars on the grid.
The Aston Valkyrie is simply stunning, that design is top notch, taking inspiration and aero parameters from F1, merged with a modern hyper car metrics.. absolute class!
The most impressive part of Newey’s career is how he can come up with better solutions than anyone else in just about any type of regulation. If you look at most of the periods where he wasn’t dominating, he had limiting factors outside of his control, like engine power or tyres. Seems that just about every time he was given an even start, he came up with a better car.
6:18 hearing Adrian say Indy cars at the time were more sophisticated than F1, seems outrageous from our perspective now. It’s sad to think what might have been had Indy not split up in the 90’s into two different race leagues. We might have been privileged to enjoy two premium single seater series at the highest level of engineering. Indy has began to recover in recent years but with cost caps and spec formula it still has a way to go.

Maybe not smart of a rb fan to share this notable thing aswell. But Newey even makes fans jump teams, since we also love who's most sensible at a track and with the car. Man those Mika days were awesome. Really resembles the sweet championcombo with Honda today.
What's funny about the 90's and 00's/010's is that, besides Ferrari and the Schumacher Era, every other team to win a title was pretty much just Newey bouncing around drawing up a new dominant car for the highest bidder. 😂
What you content makers still don't realize is that Newey did lots of ground effect technology studies in the Aston Martin Valkeiry road car project which findings are incorporated in the RB18. That was a very clever move as it bypassed the budget cap completely.
The RB19 is what you get IRL when your design team knows that F1 Manager bug that lets you turn all the slides on new parts all the way up and still gaining on everything. They've basically done that, except in real life.
Its amazing that Merc or Ferrari didn't try to poach Newey before the 2022 reg changes. Well, I'm sure they did but Newey seems to be very content staying with Red Bull. He's a genius.

Horner: "Adrian is the only one who can see air". Actually that was first said in the 1940s by Lockheed of Kelly Johnson, future designer of the SR-71 and U2 and many others in the "Skunkworks".
Such a well made Video, the pace of your story telling and the mix of videos matching what you are talking about, make this video just very good
It's really interesting to see how creative Newey has been through the years, impressive.
Really fantastic episode, thanks for putting this together!!
There will never be another newey, his influence on Motorsport is awe inspiring
Thank you Scott...
Awesome video thanks for the insight! Loved the research you can clearly see you've put in.
Awesome vid. I’m reading Neweys book ‘How to build a car’ and am at 1997 now in it. Its awesome. Its funny, an adventure, biography, tech book for all to understand, all in one👍 Newey is a visionary genius and a hilariously funny guy as well 🤗
Best quote that shows how genius Adrian is : the only man who see air !
Newey is a one in a lifetime product....
Happy to have witnessed it.
Everyone looks at the drivers to decide who is the GOAT of F1, but with the importance of cars, I think Adrian Newey should be considered.
saying of the century ( Adrian can see air ) brilliant , what a designer .
Hats off to Adrian Newey for his incredible contributions to Formula 1!
Amazing video. Amazing car designer. Without a doubt the greatest in F1’s history. Amazing career. I didn’t know he started in Indy 😮
He just sees life in a different way from the rest of us.
To have so many titles across multiple disciplines and the ultimate prize of F1 Trend setter.
You have to applaud his talent, and his ability to bring people together under his ideas.
Rory Byrne was also a good designer - helped Michael Schumacer considerably.
Adrian literally has a built in CFD in his brain. What a genius.
Adrian is one of the most important figures in all of sports, the inner workings of his mind has trickled down to things we use today just to get our passenger cars better fuel economy. A true genius.
Maybe not smart of a rb fan to share this notable thing aswell. But Newey even makes fans jump teams, since we also love who's most sensible at a track and with the car. Man those Mika days were awesome. Really resembles the sweet championcombo with Honda today.
Newey is a design thinking genius.
Yes! We want to hear about that!
This was so interesting, thanks Scott!
A genius, once in a lifetime skill
I'd love to see longer in-depth tech videos on various cars!
What's funny about the 90's and 00's/010's is that, besides Ferrari and the Schumacher Era, every other team to win a title was pretty much just Newey bouncing around drawing up a new dominant car for the highest bidder. 😂
The guy is an absolute genius. The day he retires will be a sad day for F1.
Newey is an actual god. Almost surprising he doesn't work for LM and Skunk Works. Mans more than brilliant. Its scary honestly.
Awesome Video! Thank you for your hard work
Its amazing that Merc or Ferrari didn't try to poach Newey before the 2022 reg changes. Well, I'm sure they did but Newey seems to be very content staying with Red Bull. He's a genius.
I've known about Newey's brilliance for years. Everywhere he goes he wins...and wins BIG!! He is the Stradivari of racecar design.
The Layton House was a great looking car in its time
Him and max working together is a cheat code
I am currently reading his book, "How to build a car". It really is worth a read, especially in the perspective of a motorsport fan and definitely as an engineering student.
The key line in this vid is "Adrian can see air!" yes absolute genius!
Ferrari never able to take him into their ranks to me will be the biggest shortcoming. Such a shame he didn't want to come to Italy, what an absolute genius
Who needs the sea if you can have mountains??? And if you need water, check we've got it. Fresh mountain water in gigagallons. Schnitzels, Apfelstrudel and Sachertorte, who needs Pasta and Pizza, OK, me, thats why I have the aerodynamic properties of an elephant, with the uk's kings ears flapping in the wind.
I am a dutch, fanatic Max Verstapppen fan, and I have a justified mistrust toward all english F1 pundits and comments. But you are a professional, honest, non biased, and edicational analist, so I can fairly say you are are my all time favorite, if the subject is F1.
Thank you for sharing these secrets. It is without a doubt in my mind that in the next race all teams will have adapted these secrets.
I know it's an older vid but would love to see more about RB's double diffuser design.
I remember Adrian when he was at March & then later at McLaren usually deep in thought but a nice guy with no ego would always say hi & be polite, I cant say the same of all f1 designers/tech chiefs over the years
