  • The official live action trailer for Total War™: ROME II - coming to PC A.D. MMXIII.
Total War™: Rome II will sink players into the dangerous political machinations of Rome's senate, while asking them to struggle with family dilemmas and question the loyalty of 'friends' and allies.
Leading the greatest army ever seen into battle will be just one challenge you will face at the head of the world's first superpower.
Will you help forge an empire? Restore the Republic? Or grasp the reins of power for yourself, and assume the hated title of tyrant? Who will you conquer? Who will you betray? Who will you sacrifice?
"How far will you go for Rome?"

This bullshit, true Romans if they saw this they would call out for vengeance. That's why Brutus was a comon name in Italy, it was given to men that would resemble the great Brutus that made the superb kings of ROME quit their jobs. All I see in this clip is superb motherfucking humans, a true brute Brutus, would break them down.
Brutes would come from the Tuscany actual region in italy, known as Etruria, were Etruscan lived. So yes Italian Roman Etruscans are known as the Brutii in total war rome 1.

What do you think of Rome II now?

    • @jamessalvatore7054
      @jamessalvatore7054 8 років тому +38

Its stabile. Its functional. Mechanically. It has potential to be so good, and mods show that.
But its combat system is abysmal. Its so unfun, unimmersive and just boring to watch the battles. They lack grit, feel and proper music. The animations are lackluster, the lock-on system destroys realism and it just lacks proper "Punch" if you get my saying. Its so calm and nothing like Rome 1 or MTW II. Same with atilla. Warhammer is a lot better in regard to the combat system.
So if I was to rate Rome 2 I'd say 5 out of 10. Very very very average and the only good thing about the campaign is that the AI will attack you. Thats...really it. Nothing special. Nothing out of the ordinary. Its just...streamlined and down to earth plain. Basic.
if you wanna play a Rome period type of game with mods...and I stress the sentence: "With mods" Then you can try rome at a discount. Big one. But you need to know the visual eye candy of cool legionnaries will wear off super fast. Alexander the Great visuals too. because deep down, the combat system is so plain it will bore you to death. Its not at all alike Shogun II or past total wars. Its just stale and stiff.
I tried and tried over and over. made huge campaigns and invested 600-700 hours into the game. Tried to conquer europe with various factions, using badass music like that of Alexander from 2005. But every time... the same thing killed it for me. The lackluster combat.
And thats because unlike other RTS games of this type, Total War is primarily about the battles. Not the campaign or minigames there. And if you mess that up, well...what else can I say.
Thats what I think of Rome II, without getting into a LOT more detail, sir :)
Its passable. And whatever fun you think you might get, you will get... for a short while. Then it will wear off extremely fast when you've seen the animations and blood a few times and then you ponder" Is that really all there is?"
      In my experience anyway :)

That was amazing. I love the part of the soldier just before he goes to slice the deserters throat he looks into his eyes and feels remorse, and then he just smiles and pulls. What it must have been like back then to literally hold someones life in your hands and know, what you hold in your hands is worth nothing and what scares you most is that he looks just like you.

As a novice, 2022 has been my year for Classical learning. I've been to Athens and Rome this summer. Read three books; Plato's Republic, the Classical world Robin Lane Fox, and the Birth of Classical Europe by Price/Thonemanm. I tried watching the HBO TV series Rome for the 5th time in my life and now only fully understand the characters. This Christmas I'll play this excellent game and embrace Rome.
Recently I've really started thinking I don't like the 21st century...

+Rage Team Yes that's true, but look at the other actors playing soldiers in the trailer- they look NOTHING like the two that are being focused on, and those two look identical. I think the trailer is trying to depict Father/Son, Husband/Wife and Twin Brothers, just to show how what lengths people would go for power (and to depict how ruthless Roman politics were)

Skirmishes, from everything I've seen. Technically they're Historical Battles, which are a special mode for, well, Historical Battles, but they work similar to Quick Battles, which are Skirmishes. Campaigns give you control of the entire country over the course of hundreds of years, where you move armies and upgrade cities on one map, and fight battles on another.

Community mods can give insane amount of additional interesting content, which is otherwise simply not possible for any developer studio to provide in limited timeframe, even with such huge budget CA gave for R2TW. This is why it's so important for CA to make the game as much modable as possible. Games sales don't end months after premiere, modability makes TW games sell years after release.

Hannibal's army may have been exhausted, but it could have been possible for them to regain their stamina through rest, as the Roman's eventually ditched their Attrition tactics. Rome lost approx 50,000 men. This was a huge blow and did leave them in disarray. Like you said siege equipment could have been employed. But many people have claimed that Rome was hardly defend-able as due to it being so large it's supplies could easily be cut off. I'm not saying Hannibal COULD do it. But had a chance

I actually haven't given Napoleon that much play time. I have it, but didn't dive to deep into it. I got it around the same time I got War Path for Empire, and I felt the feel was similar, but Empire had a bigger map. I'll have to play Napoleon TW more. Still think Rome II is going to be a great TW game and can't wait for it to hit the shelves. Think I'm going to have to start a new game in Medieval II to get used to that era's units again...
    Cheers bro!

I know it's old material but the rest of the piece and that piano ending are magical.

Although I don't expect everyone here to have the knowledge of an university professor on ancient Roman warfare, your comment is more than enlightening as to where your knowledge of the matter is situated.

Because we STILL remember songs from Shogun 1, Medieval 1, Rome 1, Medieval II and yet I cant remember a single song from Empire or Napoleon, there was a damn good reason he returned for Shogun 2

Damn, this trailer is good, it manages to tell so much without the actors saying a word.

Everything points to it being the best of all the series, I'm sure they'll stand up to my expectations or even beyond them!
I just hope the PC I just bought can run it smoothly...

There's a campaign map screenshot showing the three Rome faction agents, and they look exactly like the three main people in this trailer. (Veteran, Patrician, Spy)

there's the Carthage battle trailer, but personally i think this was a great way to announce the game, to show the more in depth political side which will feature (allegedly), assassinations, civil war and even scandals shown in a live action trailer, mixed in with a fine score from the amazing Jeff Van Dyck, with a small piano reference to Rome 1's main theme at the end, simply amazing, made me really excited for it. Don't worry, most of their trailers will be gameplay :)

There are more than 8 factions in the game (probably around 50-60). The basic game, at release date, will have only 8 PLAYABLE factions, plus any extra pre-order or retail-exclusive playable factions that will later on be released as DLC. And so far they will each have a variety of specializations (like economic vs militaristic) that should make them play differently.
They will most likely add or convert more playable factions via DLC like they did with Shogun 2.
