This is a masterpiece.
Destroyer120296 Kind of speaks about the Total War Community in a sense. A large number of people abandoned ship when the game flopped on release, like those soldiers jumping off the building, and left the rest of us wondering about the future of this series, like the commanders in the end.

I still want to know what that Spartan general must have been thinking. It's as if he's suddenly coming to terms with the horrors of war after decades of service and training and it's only just hit him
In the encient times the people exepted death and dident fear it as much as we do now, there is even a encient Greek saying about it "Death smiles at men and all he can do is smile back"
I love the detail in portraying the chipped cheek on the Egyptian statue. A lot of the Egyptian statues, pyramids and temples were already millenia old during the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
0:18 Mad composer skills. To make the duduk sound like something that belongs in Gaul is not so easy, since everybody associates it with middle eastern music
when they burn or bury their dead people at the end of the day, they realised that a 'war' can only bring destruction and sorrow to them...there is no 'glory' in it... Such a powerful intro for the best 'Total War' game ever...
Roman infantry vs Barbarian infantry Ptolemaic Egyptian Chariots vs Spartan Hoplites Carthaginian War Elephants vs Parthian Spearmen and Archers Roman ship being rammed by a Ptolemaic Egyptian ship Roman artillery vs Spartan Hoplites This right here is why this game is amazing. All these options.
I was thinking the same thing until I realized this game came out a while ago... Eight years is a lot of time regarding computer hardware, esp with the new RTX graphics cards out now that make the shadows look so damn real. Imagine the cut-scenes in the Modern Warfare remake but in a TW game...
Nah, problem is that after 5 years of realese, with the major political update at the beggining of 2018, basically CA finished rome 2 and probably is one of the best total war right now, yet still a shame the way CA managed it with this one.
I think Rome 2 is the worse intro of all Total war games. It seems generic, uninspired and lacks the badassness that most have. To be fair, rome 1 intro was kind of meh too. My favourites intros are Medieval 1, Napoleon and Shogun 2 .
@@EvilMaxWar Rome I was perfect, dude! All the men were fighting till the last scene, they showed the Battle of Carhae, the dismounted Gaul Cav ( Crassus' son) fighting the Persian cav. They brought in the Carthage elephants, Britons ?! ( for some reason!) and the Gaul. And you can smell the adrenaline, bloodthirst and testosterone in ya, just listening to that music!
@@EvilMaxWar Rome 2's intro is quite poor, (Rome 2 and all Total War games from Empire onward were a betrayal of their roots, Shogun 2 being the only one that was less so;) but the at the end of the intro, where the generals/leaders are looking on the dead and destruction, and the music swells as the Roman looks at the map of Europe, is perfect vidya kino. Even though Rome 2 was a very poor imitation of Total War, the end of the intro was definitely reminiscent of and touched on the greatness that was, Total War.

I felt sadness at 1:30 back when I was a young boy and now that I am old I still get that old feeling.
The ending part is quite sad though. In that moment they all realise what this war has cost them all. No matter which side its on.

+The Avenger at Ilipa thats deep man
Destroyer120296 Only not roman. The way he looks at the map ... He thinks about the future greatness of Rome.
He thinks about the Imperium Romanum.
All of them except for the Roman. He looks at the map of all that he has conquered, and all that he will conquer.
I still want to know what that Spartan general must have been thinking. It's as if he's suddenly coming to terms with the horrors of war after decades of service and training and it's only just hit him
Jack Cotterill No Spartan has ever died in his bed!
I think he's relalising he's been defeated rather
That's putting modern views of war on an ancient society, they didn't think like that back then
spartan had red and black i thought? was he a macedonian general?

have you guys ever noticed that the spartan killing the egyptian has a gladius instead of a kopis
War is sweet to those who have never experienced it. Pindar
+1 Rome 1
false war is enjoyable even in experience
Why is Sparta in Egypt? WHAT!?
San Siro More like Macedon.
Look at 0:45 his shield has Lacedemion symbol
San Siro Might be a macedonian hoplite whose a big fan of the spartan armour.
i think the spartan is just their to team up with the Seleucid because spartans dont ride elephants
neither do macedons
is there anyone who know the intro's soundtrack name?
Total war Rome ll (original soundtrack) by Richard beddow
