Created by Louis Cartier in 1904 for aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, the Santos de Cartier watch was the first modern wristwatch. Its signature design, with visible screws and a daring square silhouette, has adapted effortlessly to the times since its creation - while staying true to the watch’s boundary-breaking inspiration. Since then, this pioneering wristwatch has become an icon, defined by its geometric dial, harmoniously curved horns and signature exposed screws.

Most exciting Cartier release!
I agree! That's the coolest Santos for a long time IMHO....
Thanks Alex for this video. I have the blue dial version since few weeks and I am very pleased with this version. In person, the watch looks stunning, very comfortable and versatile. I think it will be my summer hit!
Thanks for sharing your experience with us, first hand information is the best we can get! May your Santos always show you HAPPY seconds, minutes and hours & provide you lots of fun... 😉
Some Brands and some models have an unquestionable prescence. A demand for attention, without trying. Cartier in general and Santos in special have this x-factor. Cartier; what a PowerHouse!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and passion with us!
Thank you, I really enjoy your videos. You show all aspects of the watches and explain everything.
Thank you VERY much! That's what a g*** watch video should do... 😉 Which one would you choose? Bracelet or strap?
Beautiful watches. Blue dial one is stunning
Thanks for sharing!
Stunning new releases, really excited about the new santos dumont releases too!
Which one would you choose? Bracelet or strap?
@@WatchAdvisor I live in Miami, so the strap would be perfect for the hot summer!
Great review! I was lucky to pick up the blue dial. It is absolutely beautiful. I agree with you that you can wear this timepiece as a dressy or just as a casual sport watch. When I change the blue strap and then add the stainless steel bracelet, it completely changes the look. It’s like having two different watches. This Cartier Santos is a “must have” in any collection.
Thanks for sharing your personal experience with your Santos! That's always the best feedback we can get... May it always show you HAPPY seconds, minutes and hours...
Love it

Beautiful
Which one would you choose?
Beautiful watch. I got mine last weekend. Love my first Cartier! I got the white dial one
Bravo! Well done! May your Santos always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours...
Very nice looking watches and another excellent video.
Thanks for your kind feedback! Which one would you choose? Bracelet or strap?
@@WatchAdvisor I think it’s a big plus for Cartier to provide both. The bracelet looks better but I need microadjustment so I’d probably wear it on a strap mostly. Did you see the CRWSSA0046 at W&W? That’s the black dial stainless steel version of the cream dial, gold case stunner. I’ve put an order in, sight unseen, and haven’t seen any videos.
Might be fair to say this is the original sports watch! Always and still a classic piece of design.
This is in a way the first sports watch - yes! And today with that overflow of hyped sports watches on the writs everywhere an alternative with style one should take under consideration...
Beautiful watch
Thanks for sharing! Which one is your favorite?
@@WatchAdvisor like you, I like my blue dials 💙
White dial looks amazing. Some reports hoping for a half link to dial in the fit on the bracelet. I’ve tried the XL in vanilla white dial version and can report the ergonomics of the curved lugs give an amazing low profile wrist hugging form. The two tone is absolutely beautiful if you can take the patina which will begin 30s after strapping it on. Great stuff.
Thanks for confirming/sharing that this Santos literally hug ones wrist. It really wears comfortable...
A rather fetching release for the Santos De Cartier range that's versatile too. Looks a little large for my wrist but as I've mentioned before on other reviews it's always worth trying on the wrist before making a definitive decision. If you like the design, it fits and can justify it it may be worth adding one to your wrist. I may well have a look at some point in the future. But yes I like these options. Thanks Alexander for sharing.
You are very welcome Anthony! The Santos literally hugs your wrist, so the size is relative... I highly recommend to always try/compare all watches on the wrist and to view them in different light conditions... Only then you will know... 😉
White dial with blue bezel are hard to find already. I’m glad I got mine they’re most likely be discontinued and will become a collector piece
Congratulations! Well done! The early bird... 😉 May your "Santos" always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours!
Blue dial ,thanks 👍🏴
Good choice! Thanks for sharing and please keep us posted...
I'm seriously considering a Santos, but still trying to make up my mind which one to go for. Beautiful timepieces, as you say dressed as well as sporty. Choices, choices, ...
The best to do is to try all the ones you are interested in and compare the 1:1 in different light conditions on your wrist... Then let your heart decide... it won't lie 😉
nice! I'm a blue fan too!
Well, that's my favorite color for watches 😜
Nice watch and good video
Thanks for sharing! Which one is your favorite?
@@WatchAdvisor I like both watches.

Wow👌😍
Which one is your favorite?
@@WatchAdvisor both! 😃
That is not good for your wallet 😉
I was fortunate to try on this watch yesterday with the bracelet. I personally did not like the transition from the blue bezel to the stainless steel bracelet, but maybe I would have preferred it on the leather.
Really cool regarding the 6h and 12h being marked on the bracelet
For the moment there is no leather option and I don't think there will be one soon... What about the rubber strap?
@@WatchAdvisor I mistyped, I meant to say the rubber!
I discovered the existence of the new Santos large models when i was reading Monochrome magazine.
For a time i am in the know that Cartier offer an easy strap release system on their watches that quick change the look of a watch and be handy when a situation ask for a strap that would be fine when it is hot, a swimming pool, paper work in an office, a premiere evening, watch gala, or just at home watching tv.
From the iconic models that exist the Santos is the one that i consider the most. Many times i do read information of date just’s, but always bump into a dead end street of bracelet anxious. Something the Santos do not have, and be honest, i never seen a better looking watch than a Santos. My choice would be the silver dial, and already said, i would click in the blue rubber strap.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and passion with us!
@@WatchAdvisor No problem Alexander, you are a good watch ambassador. People can made a good decision which watch fits them well.
I got the silver dial blue frame it looks WONDERFUL my wife and I use it at different times as will fit me and her even her been petite.😍
Thanks for sharing! May your Santos continue to always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours!
Thank you for this video. It made me want to get this Santos while they are still available. Problem is, I am so torn between blue and white. I love the blue'd hands on the white but it looks like the numerals are painted on instead of applied. Can you confirm if they are both applied or just the blue version?
The best you can do is to compare them 1:1 in different light conditions… and then let your heart decide… it won’t lie… concerning the numerals the ones are applied the others printed, not painted…
Beautiful watches , tried the blue and green ,I take it you can go into the swimming pool with these even though not a screw down crown ,❤️👍🏴
Thanks for sharing and please keep us posted...
I’ve been waiting for a review of these two pieces, thank you! It’s hard to get an idea of which one I prefer from watching a video. Which colour combination do you like better?
Silver dial with blue rubber strap...
Definitely try them on. You will absolutely know which one you will prefer once on your wrist. I decided on the blue dial and love it.
Alexander, thank you once again! I have an ignorant question. If you scratch a PVD coat, do you see a silver mark underneath the scratch? Or if you scratch it, is the coating deep and it still looks blue? Is PVD coating more scratch resistant then metal? I also love the blue look and Cartier is giving two straps which make it more fun.
A coating applied by PVD is durable, but not invincible. Today, the quality is better than it used to be. Scratches are of course much more visible due to the contrast between the mostly dark coating and the much lighter base metal. Unlike stainless steel, PVD is more expensive to repair.... At least it can be done...
@@WatchAdvisor This is a very good explanation! Thank you for taking time to help me understand PVD coating. It is nice this is a repairable process. Have a wonderful week, Alexander!
Next on my list! Little steeper than the AT I was looking at! Hmmmmmm?
Wuaoooo

@@WatchAdvisor die beiden sind gleich schön
What beauties - I can see why Cartier outsell Omega now. Love the blue.
Yes, this new Santos de Cartier really is cool!
Beautiful watches ! Question: why the screw heads on the bracelet are NOT aligned symmetrical? It would look more re-find it the screws are alined.
They were never meant to be symmetrical... This little "disorder" is part of the design of the watch...
To be fair, you can barely see the screw heads at 3 feet. It’s not an issue for me.
yeah yeah yeah!
Which one would you choose?
@@WatchAdvisor I picked up the all SS Large model on Saturday. Was the last one at my AD. They would not give a discount but I was able to get them to give me the new blue poly band that only comes on the blue bezel model and omg it’s incredible. Way better on the full SS
@@tylerevans2261 Thanks for sharing! Bravo! Congratulations" May your "Santos" always show you HAPPY seconds, minutes and hours...
Own the whiteface large…great watch. Love the blue too.
Thanks for sharing... Congratulations! It may continue to always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours...
I am waiting for it to be available at AD in Oslo. I'm still unsure, but I think it will be with a silver dial.
Strap or bracelet? Share some thoughts with us once you tried them please...
On second thought... Cartier sud make the 'ML' version with 38.0 x 45.4 mm dimension to entertain the goldilocks 39-40mm round watch equivalent. Thanks for the vid, man.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us and your kind feedback…
I bought the grey dial with black ceramic bezel.
Did you also have the chance to compare these blue ones?
The bezel scratches just as easily as the steel bezel. I owned this piece for about a week and sold it because of this.
I've owned it for a year and it's absolutely stunning and perfect the way it is
Thought it had only just been released?!
Selling it after one week since it scratched... What the h*** have you been doing with your Santos??? I am wearing watches for years and they only have some minor scratches...
@@parky5329 I mean a Santos. Not this particular version
@@WatchAdvisor The feature of this new bezel claimed it would be 4 times more scratch resistant then the traditional steel bezel. That was the primary reason for buying, I love Cartier and the Santos and was so excited. I wear my watches very carefully and after a week of ownership, there was a light scratch right through the PVD coating. This will not be the first complaint. No thanks!!!
I enjoy your reviews but I have a question. Where can I find a pointer like the one you used in this video? Thanks.

@@WatchAdvisor Thank you!!!
You are welcome!
Hey will you review the new tank must in stainless steel?
If I can get hands on these watches - yes!
Does it only come in the large or do they have these versions in the medium as well?
Not that I know…
I believe it’s large only and it’s not too big even for a slight smaller wrist.
Thanks for this great review, i love this silver dial, do you prefer it too? Greetings from the Netherlands!
YES! I would definitely buy the silver/grey dial... The combination with the rubber strap is gorgeous...
Thanks Alexander for your response, I will get mine in June. Do you think it fits my 16,2 cm wrist? Keep on reviewing 💯
My wrist measures 17 cm … so why should 0,8 mm make a huge difference? Try it and you will like it… 😉 The shape of that case perfectly hugs the wrist…
Very nice watches. I am not sure whether I prefer the old plane bezel or this new structured. Maybe it is a decision of want to have more elegant or more sporty design
The best to do is to try the ones you are interested in and compare the 1:1 in different light conditions ... Then let your heart decide... it won't lie 😉
@@WatchAdvisor 😊this would be the best way. But it will be a very big luck to have this opportunity. Maybe at a CARTIER Boutique...
An interesting watch.
Nice dimentions.
40 hr reserve is a bit disappointing.
.
Yes, I said that in the video...
@@WatchAdvisor it would appear I am agreeing with you.
Worried about the longevity of the PVD vacuum coating in in a vulnerable area that faces the brunt of most impacts, and abrasions. Also I'd wish they'd finally sort out the asymmetric screw orientation especially on the bracelet that always annoyed the heck out of me back when I owned one In the 90's as well as the constant replacements of the chipped/missing crown blue sapphire again on an area susceptible to knocks and bumps.
The coating today is better than ever... You can't compare a modern coating with the ones we saw years before and that were very scratch sensitive...
I’m always surprised that watches like these are classed more as a sports watches rather than dress watches (perhaps due to the strap, lume and WR rating or maybe the aviation history of the Santos?). They both look very dressy to me but nevertheless fabulous looking, especially the blue dial version! Thanks for sharing.
I would want to underline that this is a sports watch... It is a cool, sporty-elegant alternative to so many hyped models...
@@WatchAdvisor Thanks for the reply, guess I don’t really know what defines a dress watch from a sports watch. It’s certainly an excellent alternative to some of the overhyped sports watches around that price!
In the Jaeger-LeCoultre video we also published yesterday on our channel you may see a very good example of a dress watch. The "Master Date" is the one I mean...
The blue strap doesn't match blue bezel, but I do appreciate what they're trying to do. A lot closer to a truly "sport" Santos.
It does to a certain degree... it just depends in what light you see/film the watch...
I m a big fan of santos model but sorry No color match at all with the rubber! What Cartier does ? Agree that it s difficult to match a rubber color with a Pvd metallic treatment but here we haven t the same RVB color : rubber have a touch of purple and the bezel a touch of turquoise ! A pity ! (Whereas The SS bracelet with the blue bezel looks great )
In your opinion, what makes the big price difference to the Omega Aqua Terra? Speaking of which it has better specs, much better movement, similar finishing, similar brand recongnition, similar price retention, similar market share? Is it just to the history of the particular piece (it's the only field in which I see the AT loosing to the Santos)?
Cartier belongs to Richemont. This is a "Luxury" group... Omega belongs to the Swatch Group. This is an "industrial" group... the most successful industrial watchmaker... So expect with Cartier higher prices for a very good quality and with Omega lower prices for a better quality...
@@WatchAdvisor I understand what their respective groups market placement is, but by following your logic you'd say Breguet, Blancpain, Glashutte Original and so on, can't be seen as luxury brands because they are owned by an "industrial" group. I respectfully disagree sir.
I don't see the Cartier watches as better quality than their Omega counterparts.
@@mommi1979 Of course these brands are luxury brands!!! I never said/stated anything else!!! But they are still manufactured by the best industrial watchmaker of the industry and therefore you know what you get… QUALITY!!! I hope you do better understand me now … 😉
Also the Santos wins against the AT, because of the 8 year warranty Cartier gives to their watches vs Omega’s 5 years warranty.
I'm seriously considering the white/silver dial. I heard a rumor it's a one year release.
I can't confirm since Cartier didn't officially communicate about it... Please keep us posted and share some thoughts with us once you have it...
I can confirm that these are one shot release and will be shipping until the end of the year per Cartier

It may scratch of course and it can be repaired by Cartier when the watch is serviced...

Just bought the grey face and blue bezel from Cartier boutique , I was told this is a one shot edition.
Cartier, pls upsize the medium model to ML 38 mm x 45.4 mm that would look like a 39-40 mm round watch equivalent and wear like 37-39 mm. This large 39.8 x 47.5 looks like a 42mm round watch, although it would wear like a 39-41mm. Thanks for the vid, man.
