@Day Dreamer VR can you help. So im doing research on this to get better performance on my quest 3 if i buy a router dedicated for quest and plug directly into my PC how would i then plug my home router into my pc for online games? Am i missing something about how the dedicated router which will be an access point? Will it be plugged in via ethernet to my pc. So my question is how do i connect a new router to my pc for the quest to connect to and then how do i plug my ethernet lead that comes from my main ISP router? Not found any videos explaining
So you would need to plug your new dedicated router into your pc with an ethernet cable, and connect your Quest 3 to the 5ghz band of that new dedicated router. Then connect your old router which has internet into your new router by ethernet cable to provide Internet to your dedicated router. Your new router would be best to be setup as an access point. Hope that helps 👍 this image is a good example smartglasseshub.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/virtual-desktop-separate-router-setup.jpg
Will try this thax a lot I would like to know how all settings with mfs would be at the best possible way to enjoy the flight with shadow pc and virtual desktop running pico 4 and how to optimize the shadow pc settings would be optimized! I would love to hear from you m8 ❤❤❤ iw been struggling with get everything going but now I'm on good path of enjoyment Thx to your help Mr.🙏
I hope this guide helps. I haven't used a shadow pc myself, but I would recommend trying it with the bitrate set to about 50Mbps, and graphics settings turned down, then monitor the latency, and increase the settings bit by bit. If you are online gaming with other I wouldn't recommend the latency being any higher than around 45ms, the lower the better, but if playing a game just on your own then I find it okay up to a maximum of around 60ms. Hope you get it working okay for you👍
Question, I have my pc connected to wifi, and my room has no ethernet ports. I am currently using virtual desktop to run games like gorilla tag on steam vr. When in virtual desktop, it does warn me that performance will suffer due to not having an ethernet cable plugged in. I am planning on getting a dedicated router just for myself, because of the high networking and latency issues. Can you give me some good choices for a router and how to go about connecting it to my pc via ethernet, and have steam vr lag less?
Hi, so whatever router you get, it will be best to set it up as an extender - or you might even get away with just getting a wifi extender that has an ethernet port for your PC. Virtual desktop recommends the following routers: Sole/Upgrade (AX) - Asus RT-AX86U ($300 US) Dedicated (AXE - Wifi 6e *) - TP-Link AXE5400/AXE75 ($160-$200) Dedicated (AX) - Netgear WAX202 ($60 US) Portable (AC) - Opal GL-SFT1200 ($50 US) Dedicated (AC) - TP-Link Archer C6 or A6 ($40 US) Hope that helps 👍
@@DayDreamerVR Thanks! Sorry to ask for help again, but do you know of anything that will lead to less latency during gaming? I had a networking problem, but should be solved when I get one of those new routers. Still getting some minor encoding issues and high latency issues(around 80ms)
I take it that you are using virtual desktop? What are your individual latencies for game, encoding, network and decoding? Could be worth going on the virtual desktop discord if the tips in this video don't help, happy to help if I can though
@@matthewfryer5723 Not a problem at all. Those numbers seem quite reasonable, as they are fluctuating, is that the worst it gets to or about the best? With those numbers what is the overall latency? Do you experience stuttering or delay when gaming? The network latency seems good, so the only way to reduce latency further would be to reduce the resolution or in game settings, but those numbers do look okay, unless you are experience stuttering etc. Just odd the overall latency was up to 90ms-would be good to know what the numbers are when it fluctuates that high/higher than 50ms
I have a quest 3, tp-link ac1200 mesh (Archer C6) router, Ryzen 5 1500X and GTX 1650S. I have set the router on ap and 5ghz mode. So far both airlink and steam link have been terrible experiences. they caused bad performance and constantly crashed while playing. VD has been much more stable, however i don't feel like i'm having 72fps while playing. It feels more like 40-50 frames, even though it shows 72 on overlay most of the time and it's stuttering every 10 seconds. What should i do to have a smooth experience?
Have you had a look at fpsvr? I would get that app on steam, and run it when using Steamvr through Virtual desktop. I would put synchronous space warp always on, and probably keep the resolution setting as low as it goes in in virtual desktop to start. Then go into steamvr, bring up the fpsvr overlay, and check what the cpu and gpu usage is. Bring up the virtual desktop performance overlay, and check all of the frame times and latency. If everything is showing as running well and keeping 36/72fps (it might show 36 due to having synchronous spacewarp (ssw)/reprojection on) try and launch your game, then monitor cpu and gpu usage, and if you get a bad experience or if the cpu/gpu usage and frame times are too high, then reduce all settings and try again. 1650s might struggle with VR, but with ssw on, and settings low you might have a chance. Hope you manage to get it running smoother 👍
They don't have to be, don't worry, does it still connect? It is just advising you in case you thought you were connected to the same network, connecting through two separate networks will transfer the data between them, and will require a good connection between the two, and could add latency 👍
Thx but in other videos i saw they were connected. I have a 500k net and i use tplink repeater as accesspoint for the quest 3 and shadow with my old laptop. Shadow has so much potential but it doesnt work good for me 😮💨
@Privat846 What is your latency like over the network, and are you on a fiber connection I take it? Could be worth going onto the Virtual Desktop discord to see if they can help diagnose any issues. Hope you manage to sort it👍
@@DerBums80 by connecting the link cable to the launcher, do you mean connecting the link cable to your laptop? That would get rid of some latency this side of the network. Other options would be to turn down bitrate, lower the resolution quality setting, don't have asynchronous space warp on, make sure your laptop is connected to your router by an ethernet cable, have a higher refresh rate on your headset in VD if the shadow pc can manage it, that will all help keep the latency down 👍
Your video is amazing. But I have an issue. When playing PCVR with pico 4 i have this insane jitter of head and controller tracking. The fps of the game stays 90, the network likes to fluctuate but not big enough to be a problem (I think), I use wifi 6 hotspot from a phone for now (contemplating buying a router just for VR). After a while , the jitter got worse and eventually steamVR crashed. This is constantly happening. Always started smooth then jittery then Crashed steamVR. Why is this? What's my options? Thankyou
I would try really lowering the bitrate to maybe 50mb/s to see if that helps or with a USB 3.0 cable sat right extra to your computer, and connect using the pico connect software. If it works better in either of these tests then you know that probably it is the network struggling and at some point whilst the network is a bit up and down the worst bit of this is causing it to disconnect. I would think that the hotspot and connection between the phone and computer/network isn't quite good enough. Hopefully you have a long enough usb cable or the lowering bitrate will show it is likely the network. I hope you manage to sort it 👍
@DayDreamerVR Ah I don't have the cable for it, and my laptop is old enough that the USB likes to disconnect on slightest wiggle so I can't test out head tracking while tethered with a USB. Unless I add another tape to it lol 😆. Anyway thank you for the suggestion, yes I already use 50mb/s bitrate on a 300-500mb connection speed (reported on the HUD). I think it's just a weak GPU that 1650... Sad but yeah I'm sticking with Ports and native pico games for now. So many to explore still before having to jump to PCVR
until today i have the message that my pc's not wired in ethernet, but it is, and in the same wifi, any idea? i've done nothing and virtual desktop don't recognize my ethernet connection now?

The official link cable wis good, and is fiber optic. It is therefore light, thin and capable. However there are now many other manufacturers supplying good cables much cheaper, although not fiber optic like the official meta link cable so are slightly heavier etc.
@@DayDreamerVR I was thinking of returning my 85 dollar meta cable for a refund and getting a cheaper 20 dollar one. I was testing it with a literal short usb charging cable and it ran the same fps. I was really confused on how much better the official is and if it was worth it at all. I don't think I have any games that need a 85% cable.
@@Hathathorne It is a good quality cable, that is thinner and lighter, but you don't need it, there are plenty of others to choose from. Or you could get a dedicated VR router for that money and play wirelessly. I use the gl.inetgl mt 3000 beryl ax3000 router which was around £70 for me and works well
Cant go any further in Bitrate than 85mbps and I have the whole cake setup, Gigabit Ethernet + dedicated Wifi 5Ghz AP mode (866mbps and close 1m away from the router). (saw in your video you have 75mbps, so now Im thinking its everything is ok). HEVC 10bit Quest 2
75Mbps is a good amount to keep latency low with an okay image, but you should still be able to get higher. Have you split the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands on your router with different names? This is so you know you are connected to the 5ghz band? Although 866Mbps connection indicates your connection bandwidth is fine, so you should be able to get a higher bitrate. When you say you have gigabit ethernet, I take it that is directly between your dedicated router and your PC? HEVC does have a lower maximum bitrate, whilst H264 has a higher max bitrate. For image quality, a 75Mbps HEVC will be better than 75Mbps H264. The virtual desktop discord is also really good for advice if needed discord.com/invite/ydavZEmW Hope you manage to sort it/are happy with what you can get it to 👍

Glad you are pleased with it 👍I found it brilliant for the Quest 2, but unfortunately found the signal strength varied when using the PICO 4, that could have just been the PICO 4 not having as strong a signal as the Quest 2, which is a shame as I loved the small form factor

Virtual desktop recommends the following routers:
Sole/Upgrade (AX) - Asus RT-AX86U ($300 US)
Dedicated (AXE - Wifi 6e *) - TP-Link AXE5400/AXE75 ($160-$200)
Dedicated (AX) - Netgear WAX202 ($60 US)
Portable (AC) - Opal GL-SFT1200 ($50 US)
Dedicated (AC) - TP-Link Archer C6 or A6 ($40 US)
Hope that helps 👍
@@DayDreamerVR Thanks! Sorry to ask for help again, but do you know of anything that will lead to less latency during gaming? I had a networking problem, but should be solved when I get one of those new routers. Still getting some minor encoding issues and high latency issues(around 80ms)
never knew video buffering did that i have basically the same graphics card as you so i should be fine to turn it off
Just going through this, trying all sorts of connections, still seem to have 60-90ms latency.
I take it that you are using virtual desktop? What are your individual latencies for game, encoding, network and decoding? Could be worth going on the virtual desktop discord if the tips in this video don't help, happy to help if I can though
@Day Dreamer VR Hi thanks for reply, the readings on VD are Game 13ms, Encoding 4ms, Network 6ms, Decoding 12ms. PC is i5 13th gen with 4070ti
Nice video -
Cheers
Thanks, glad you liked it 😁
I have a quest 3, tp-link ac1200 mesh (Archer C6) router, Ryzen 5 1500X and GTX 1650S.
@@DayDreamerVR thanks, i'll try it this way.
Vd shows, that my shadow pc and quest 3 are not in the same local network. What to do ? 😮💨
Hope you manage to sort it👍
Its not that bad but can i connect the quest with a linkcable to the launcher and then laptop to shadow ?
Is your PC showing as connected by ethernet? I'm not aware of what could be causing this, it could be worth going onto the Virtual Desktop Discord channel, they're really helpful. Hope you manage to get it sorted 👍
@@DayDreamerVR thanks for reply, yes my pc is recognized as connected with ethernet. my box is connected on the wan port to the router and the pc is connected on the lan port of the router with 1gb ethernet cable. It was fully functional and today it show ethernet pc: NO on my VD streamer.
I'm very confused i have 5 ghz internet but on wireless pcvr i get like 90 latency its so laggy on my quest 2 but on my laptop its fine
I did a video here which might helpb ua-cam.com/video/7ycwzv3XpKU/v-deo.html If you can't solve it then it might be worth going on the virtual desktop discord channel, they are really helpful and it is easier to problem solve there. Hope you manage to sort it 👍
Does the meta quest official link actually better or is it apple pricing?
I use the gl.inetgl mt 3000 beryl ax3000 router which was around £70 for me and works well
what's the outro song?
I like how half of this is networking
The virtual desktop discord is also really good for advice if needed discord.com/invite/ydavZEmW Hope you manage to sort it/are happy with what you can get it to 👍
@@DayDreamerVR Tks for the reply, i will follow your channel and watch it deeply.
My setup is (PC ethernet (1,000mps gigabit) -> "Internet Router" -> on cable to 5Ghz (Dedicated 866mbps) in AP mode.
So I was reading that my 5Ghz is only 10/100mbps then probably this bootleneck my connection, BUT EVEN if I connect Quest straight to 5ghz through the Internet Router, I cant get more than 85mbps in both scenarios. (PS: The "internet router" I leave the 5ghz signal OFF so I have only 1 5ghz in my home (the other router dedicated).
(Yes, I use the 5ghz dedicated signal, just Quest 2 use this alone on the "second" router).
@@GoMArkkrAM The best way to try it is PC--->dedicated vr router--->Internet router. This is because you are sending your signal straight between the dedicated router and pc, without it needing to go through another router. The Internet router transfering/processing the data could be the bottleneck between your dedicated one and your PC, I hope that helps 👍
@@DayDreamerVR i will buy a wifi 6 soon as some bucks left, or a 1.000mbps 5ghz to connect it straight and out of any co-relation with that internet router).
(Ps. Even connecting on the internet 5ghz router and doing everything on only 1 router i get same results (but i have a bunch of devices hanging on 2.4ghz on that router, i thinks because it i cant get good results. But i still have totally acceptable 75/80mbps high settings, pretty much a crispy image must say!
will it turning water into wine 🍷 graphically speaking (and even performance) if i upgrade to wifi 6 AX1800?
My fear is to spent a budget which is tight at the moment and not experience a great change/upgrade in image. (If ya can put it in how % i can gain) thanks so much pal
No matter what I do I just can not get the muddy blurry screen the look better
Axt1800 is a great router
Glad you are pleased with it 👍I found it brilliant for the Quest 2, but unfortunately found the signal strength varied when using the PICO 4, that could have just been the PICO 4 not having as strong a signal as the Quest 2, which is a shame as I loved the small form factor
Would love if VD actually worked, since i bought it for 20 dollars. But it doesn't work with antivirus programs, which makes VD useless, since i'm not dumb enough to turn off a firewall and generel protection.
What antivirus do you run? I haven't had to turn off the standard windows firewall etc. Have you been to the Discord server, they're very helpful, hope you get it sorted 🤞
@@DayDreamerVR got Bitefender
I haven't used antivirus besides Windows built in for 10 years and never got a virus. Why are you living in the stone age?

Why y’all complaining about 90ms I have 350 😭
Oh no! Hope you can sort it! Good luck 🤞
1:10 um... did this guy just leak his ip?
You just had me worried then! Lol, no this is internal ip, which everyone usually has the same, the external ip is luckily not shown 👍
@@DayDreamerVR oh ok
Bro revealed his IP Address 💀💀💀
Lol, I've had that comment before, can't remember if it was on this video or another, but 192.168.1.... Is an internal only ip, and everyone has that as the internal ip (which isn't accessible from the Internet). You have an external one which you don't want to give out as that can be accessed 👍
