Hi mate. Any ideas why a few of us are having connection issues? When connected direct to my router, there is network but only for 2-5 mins and then it fails. Reconnecting the adapter will make it work again but only for 2-5 mins.

Thank you for the video. For me it works way better than wireless connection to a dedicated wifi 6 router. I use the same ethernet adapter that you use, but connected it directly to pico. I have now steady 90 fps in games where before I had occassional stutters and sometimes they looked muddy - probably because VD reduced bitrate. I just ordered an usb extension cable, because the adapter seems to be very sensible, so when I move my hand and touch the cable, the connection sometimes is lost (I think this is the reason). I hope it helps, as this is my only problem with this solution. Otherwise is pico 4 now a perfect headset for me - it is just pity, that there is no tethered connection out of the box, like a display port cable.
Thanks @JugandoRD for the tip ! Just a word of warning for the buyers.⚠ The whole setup doesn't work on my side but I suspect that it is because the "usb-c female to usb-c female" adapter is not an OTG adapter⚠, when I plug the "ethernet to usb-c" adapter directly in the headset it works wonders. Quick question, i see that the ethernet adapter and usb c extenders are 3.2, but you 10ft cable is 2.0 according to description. Does it make sense to run a 3.2 gen 2x2 cable? Is there ethernet adapter in that version? Couldnt find much really. Is as shame as my mobo has 3.2 gen 2x2 ports where i could tether and charge perfectly but your last tether video kinda set me back with bsod issues, does it happen to everyone or there is a good percentaje of people who dont get issues?
I talked to the Virtual Desktop dev and it seems like there is no plan to have VD support native USB, it seems like that would require some access to the headset they don't have currently. However, I do hope either pico SA improves or VD support native usb connection in the future.
Is it possible to still use a USB-C splitter at the headset to connect USB-C headphones? I'd like to try this set-up, but I really don't want to lose good sound over it.
I cannot make this work but I really appreciate your videos and answers. The Pico 4 shows up as a media streaming device, not a device on the network. So if I connect it to my router via my existing 4 ethernet network port switch nothing happens. I have 2 computers and both are successfully connected by plugging in a LAN/Ethernet cable from both computers to 2 of the available 4 ports, but plugging an ethernet cable from the PIco 4 to a 3rd port is not recognised. Furthermore, if I disconnect the wi-fi connection then run Virtual Deskop Streamer, it says "COMPUTER NOT FOUND" even though it acknowledges there is a (non gigabit) wired connection. I now know that the Pico 4 is just using both the USB 3 out and Ethernet link with battery as just a charging point. I know this because I can disconnect the link cable while flying and it carries on as though I did nothing, therefore it is ONLY using the wi-fi connection, not the cable connection. The exact same thing is happening using the Pico 4 Assistant app. SO - how do I connect the PICO 4 to my router via ETHERNET so it is recognised? I really appreciate your patience and very kind help so far but I simply do not know how to get the Pico to be recognised in the way yours is? I do not understand your answer about needing to be on the same local network space - (do you just mean on the exact same private network?). If you have the time I'd be every so grateful if you could explain STEP BY STEP EXACTLY what to do. If you have time in the future I'm sure others will also appreciate a video explaining STEP BY STEP how to get the Pico recognised as a device on the Ethernet/Router so it does more than just act as a charge point. Thank you so much!!
not sure which USB C to Ethernet Adapter you are using but if you can share a link to it so I can check it out. On the other hand, first make sure USB debugging is enabled within the Pico 4 settnigs, connect the USB C to Ethernet Adapter to the PICO 4 and to the other end connect the Ethernet cable, then connect the other end of the ethernet cable to your router, this must be the same router your computer is connected to via Ethernet cable. You first need to make sure the PICO 4 is getting network access, you can test this by disabling WIFI on the pico and then trying to search for a website using the pico browser, if your USB to Ethernet adapter is doing is job, you should be able to search the web. Once this is all setup, then you can check if the PICO virtual desktop app is able to find your computer on the network.
@@JugandoRD OK Many thanks for this. I'll try your suggestions. I hope your channel grows and grows as the info you provide here is very useful to many who struggle with VR setups. Thanks again!
Is your USB cable 100w? If it is less than that, VD will not find your computer. I tested this with my 15w USB-C cable and it doesn't detect it. When I swapped it will 100w, it finds its. No idea why this happens, but I tested every single cable I had. I had something to do with the USB-C's power when connecting via Ethernet.
Hello ! I've bought a usb c cable to usb a with charging port since cable, a usb a to usb c, a usb c to ethernet with charging port with cable to a charger and cable cat6 to my routeur. The usb tethering is grey and cant be actived. Any solutions plz ?
@@JugandoRD My laptop is upstairs in a different room to the router and on Wifi, will that stop this working properly does the laptap have to be ethernet connected as well for this to work 100%?
Hi and thanks for this Great Tuto. Just a quick question, will the Power Port if plugged in recharges the PIco 4 Battery with this setup also, while playing, please?
if you have a charger plugged in the mini USB port on the adapter, yes, it will charge the headset while you play. Some very demanding games may withdraw more power which means your headset may drain charge slowly overtime while playing.
Thanks for showing your setup! I've just discovered this method.. What's the benefit of it versus the ordinary wireless connection over WiFi6 using VD? I prefer the H.264+ codec and can push the bitrate up to 300Mbps, any number beyond that causes the image/connection to bounce around. Would this method give a more stable connection? 🤔 Thanks in advance!
hey, i‘ve got s question too i‘ve seen thats you already answered questions about this topic: i‘d like to connect the pico directly to my pc via ethernet, because my pc is in the wifi of my router, no cable. the pc detects the network adapter and pico as „unkown network“ could it be possible somehow with usb tethering via pico or is there a risk of BSOD then?
you cannot connect the pico directly to the ethernet port on your PC, why? because most ethernet cables are "Straight through" cables only for connecting endpoint (computer, headset) to (network switches like an access point with ethernet ports). You could technically make this work if you are able to get a hold of a crossover cable which I doubt you will unless you make one yourself. regarding your other question, USB Tethering is not recommended, it causes BSOD on some computers.
@@JugandoRD tahnk you for your answer! i already asked something in your discord, i was thinkin if it would be possible to do it with a wlan repeater with 2 LAN outputs. also tried to take my router directly to my pc, the router seems to doesn't recognize the pico. however, i will try it with a repeater because i got issues with my connection while working from home when the router is at my private pc.
Hello, no you do not need any extra configuration, just turn off your wifi within pico 4, and test you are able to access the internet with ethernet. Your pico and pc need to be on the same network.
Hello there! Thank for the tutorial. I was just wondering as I am in a situation whereby my router is too far away and wifi is too weak. I only have 1 RJ45 ethernet cable running across the house to my PC directly in my room. Am I able to disconnect the ethernet cable from my PC, connect it to a ethernet switch and have the pico 4 (and my PC) connect to the switch as well?
Can you connect this direct to your PC ethernet port instead of a router? Isn't this the whole point...so you can connect direct to PC and bypass router? Thanks
no you cannot, you should connect the ethernet cable from the PICO 4 to the same router you computer is connected so they are able to reach each other on the same LAN. For you to connect the PC straight to your PICO 4 via Ethernet you would need a Ethernet Cross-over cable which is not available easily on the internet, and on top of that your PC would lose access to the internet.
Am I able to just connect the ethernet adapter USBC side straiht into the PICO 4 headset? I'm normally stantionary when in VR... Or do I require the female adapters & USBC cable? Thanks!
you should, but the problem with the male USB C head is not an L shape thus it is risky to have that connected while moving, chances of hitting something either with your hands or something else is very high which my break the port on the pico 4. You can by a 90 degree adapter to overcome that if you do not want to by the same cables I have.
Depends how the wattage of the dc power adapter you connect the power cable to. It needs to be at least as strong as the original pico 4 power adapter.
It works for me and the connection is flawless, but every now and then the connection simply stops. VD can't find my computer anymore and no internet until I reboot the Pico4. Does anyone have idea what could be causing this?
Great video. But I cannot make mine work using an ethernet splitter/junction box. Here's my setup: I am too far away from my ethernet/wi-fi router, so I am connecting my Pico4 with a USBC to ethernet adapter then plug the ethernet cable into a port on the splitter, which is right by my computers and works fine with them (I know it does because they both work not by a direct connection but via the splitter box. Can you suggest what I'm doing wrong? Thank you.
Your computer and the pico 4 needs to be on the same local area network space, meaning they cannot be connected by multiple network devices which provide different network address spaces (Layer 3 IP broadcast networks), try buying a regular layer 2 switch such "www.amazon.com/Ethernet-Splitter-Optimization-Unmanaged-TL-SG105/dp/B00A128S24/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=1E7JQZ1NT1E1W&keywords=netgear+switch&qid=1674312259&sprefix=netgear+switch%2Caps%2C188&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUE2VjZaMlI3T1lPWkQmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA4ODE0NjgzRlZFRk9CQU9NR0kwJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTAyNzY3MDc4OU9VSDQ5RTJTTFMmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl", connect your PC and pico 4 ethernet cable there, and then connect the other cable from your wifi/router to another port on the switch, once your PC and pico 4 receive an IP address from your router they will be able to communicate with each other just fine.
@@JugandoRD Thanks so much for your quick reply. I already have a exact same switch which connects my 2 computers to the internet via an ethernet connection. Clearly I need to do something I simply do not understand to get the PIco properly recognised as something other than just charging it via USB or via a battery similar to yours. Please see more fully explained post/request January 22nd. Thank you!
The connection worked perfectly for me, so thanks for that! I ordered everything from your links at Amazon. One thing though--that USB C to internet adapter--I plugged a charger into that adapter, but the light on my Pico 4 did not come on, so I don't think it's charging. A light on the adapter came on, but the charging light on my Pico 4 did not. I'm wondering if a USB C splitter might work...? Does it work for you?
Not sure if the light comes on while you have pico turned on, maybe check inside pico go to main dashboard and see if the headset is charging. If it is not charging, consider changing the power adapter feeding power to the pico 4, a good alternative is using the original power adapter that comes with the pico 4.
@@JugandoRD Nope, it's not charging for me and I am using the original power adapter. I checked the main dashboard and the little charging lightning bolt is not there (then, when I plugged the original adapter to the Pico, the little lightning bolt did appear). I guess I'll be checking USB C splitters or something similar to see if I can charge and use the network adapter at the same time. I'm loving the ethernet connection but the battery draining is killing me. If you find a solution or have other suggestions, please send them. Thanks for the fast reply!

Hello, yes, I did buy a wifi 6 router recommended on the VD discord channel, and used it only with the PICO 4 connected via WIFI 6, still got stutters and jitter on the network latency, both with VD and PICO SA. No such issues with USB to Ethernet or USB Tethered.
upgraded my router to the TP Link Deco 6E that has 3 Ethernet ports on the back of the router (two: 1gbps ports and one 2.4gbps port). I have my modem plugged into the single 2.5gbps port, and PC and Pico with the Ethernet adapter in the other two 1gbps ports. PC is working but the Pico doesnt recognize any of the ports on the router, and it doesn't show up in my connected devices inside the router software I can access. Clueless.... I do have a switch coming, is the issue that the PC and Pico are not shared on a switch going into the same port on the router? I do know the Ethernet adapter worked on my old router...
would this setup help speed up the time taken for virtual desktop to find my shadow PC? I'm sitting right next to the router and can wait on average 15 minutes. Very useful video, thank you
Very unlikely, a shadow pc sits on the cloud which is subject to the extra latency on the internet, which could very between 30 ms - 250+ ms depending on where the closest point of presence is on your shadow pc provider.
i have a question. do i need internet access on my router for this to work or can i just use the router without internet? like connect to a router via ethernet on my pico and have my pc connected to same router via ethernet but without internet access. thanks for the informative video
You could however, I believe virtual desktop will authenticate the app when you launch it for anti piracy stuff so it is recommended for your router to have internet connection.
Hi i don't think you actually pointed/showed us the port that charges the headset. I'm assuming it is the whole on the piece that connects the ethernet cable to the usb c cable yes?
@@JugandoRD My mistake, I never actually said how great your vids are either. Thanks for the great vids. Just after buying a HP REVERB and then i found your channel🥺
Correct, pico should connect to your lan network with this adapter, it must be on same router as your pc though so they can discovered each other. That's pretty much it.
Hi there, thanks for explaining your connection set up! I have a question, i am planning to purchase the "BOBOVR P4 Twin Battery Upgrade". This means that the USB C port from the headseat will be occupied by the BOBO cable connecting to the batteries. How can the USB C to LAN connection (as explained in your tutorial) work with this set up? Thanks!
If you check the USB C to Ethernet adapter I showed on this video you will see it has a charging port, you need to connect your USB C from the Bobovr to that charging port and the other end to the USB C on the Pico 4.
Check your pc virtual desktop settings, and if you are using and audio app on your pc like voicemeter make sure you disable that and only use the native windows audio settings. If you still have issues, join the virtual desktop discord and ask for help from the devs there.
@@JugandoRD ahh right well I tried it last night after I bought the Ethernet dingle. Worked fine but Thought I’d use my usb c - A cable I previously used for. Hi thank you for your great videos, not only this one but so many ;-) Regarding the ethernet setup, will the Pico 4 detect ethernet connection automatically or do I need to activate something
it should detect it automatically, make sure you by a good adapter though, I've seen people trying apple ethernet dongles which are known to not work properly. Thanks for the comment!
not familiar with that cable, but if it is a USB C to USB C cable, then I see no issues using it and connecting one side to the pico and the other to the USB C to Ethernet adapter using the same extensions I showed on the video.
Hello ! Is it possible to use this cabling setup without connecting via a router ? In other words by just connecting directly to the ethernet port of the PC ?
Nope, that would require a special ethernet cable wired in a crossover mode to allow the pc and pico to be able to communicate because they both use the same wire for transmit and receive.
if you mean usb c headphones connected to pico, then no, you will not be able to do that while using this method, you will need to use Bluetooth headphones or wired headphones connected to your PC.
Is it going to work if i just buy a 6m or so ethernet cable and the usb c to ethernet? So i can just connect bouth of them, plug ethernet into my router, and usb c to my pico?
it should work, but you need to go with a USB c to ethernet adapter that supports charging such the one I showed here, that way you can charge the headset while playing.
I have the Pico 4 now and my Computer has an ethernet cable directly from router. I would rather not have another ethernet cable running from my router, but would it be possible to have e small switch at my computer desk and put the cable from the router into it and then run one cable to computer and one to the Pico? Or do you have to use two connections on the router?
Picture quality such color is the same, the ethernet connection will just make the experience with virtual desktop smoother with no stutters commonly cause for latency on WIFi.
Do i need two ethernet cables for this? one from router to pc and then one from router to pico 4 or can I run one ethernet from router to pico 4 and then use my pc wifi for authentication purposes? Hope that makes sense :)
Your pc must be connected to the same router via ethernet cable your pico is. You might make it work with your PC on wifi to the router your pico is connected to, but that defeats the whole purpose of this. You will have issues with latency spikes because of your pc on wifi.
correct no settings required, PICO should connect to your network as soon as you connect the cables, Virtual desktop should find and connect to your PC provided both your PICO and PC are connected to the same network.
@@JugandoRD Ohh right seems pretty straight forward was having alot of problems tethering sometimes i had to restart virtual desktop 10 times just to get connected it just instantly dissconnected when i disabled wifi. Are you still using this hardware and setup for the Pico 4 with VD? Any changes? Would appreciate any thoughts you have. Thanks! btw, you have provided some great videos and great content for getting things up and running. I can’t wait to get my Pico!
Hello, same setup, USB C to Ethernet is the best of the best, no plans to change this. And yes PICO 4 has been my daily driver since I got it, best headset I have owned, coming from HP reverb G2 user. I hope you enjoy it too once you get yours.
It could be possible with an Ethernet Crossover cable, the reason it does not work with a normal Ethernet cable is because your PC and the PICO 4 uses the same wires in the Ethernet cable to transmit, as well the same wires to receive data, which means when they both transmit data it will collide, and neither will be able to receive data from the other as they are using the wrong wires inside the ethernet cable. Conclusion, buy a 10 or 20 dollars Layer 2 switch and connect both your computer and pico to it, you will still need a way to assign IP addresses to both so you will need a router of figure out a way to assign an IP to your PICO 4 and PC statically on the same network range.
@@JugandoRD thanks for the tip, found a other way to connect pico over Ethernet with ALVR. ALVR has a great update out. U got to check it out. and give me feedback, cheers
I have a new video with MSFS where the focus was on network latency, it was perfect below 6 ms and sometimes even 2 ms. Better than USB Tethered and of course much much better than WIFI 6.
I have a USB-C cable I got for my Quest 2. It tests out at 2.3gb in Oculus software. You will not get faster with ethernet as the headset cannot process that band with. Why not simplify with just a good USB-C cable direct to the pc. Even if you need to get USB-C adapter it will not cost more than this..
Hello Charles, that's one of the things I explained on my previous videos, in fact I have a video on how to setup USB Tethered with just the USB cable, but there is a problem with that mainly because of the Tethered windows drivers that could cause windows to crash with bluescreen. Virtual desktop does not work just connected the USB cable, only the PICO Stream Assistant works like that at this moment "which is terrible for PCVR". USB to Ethernet will give you the exact same performance on virtual desktop compare when you use USB Tethered, however, since your PICO connects straight to your router via ethernet you no longer have the issue with bluescreen on Windows.

you can join my discord discord.gg/SWjAqhJw and share the screenshots through there, I will not open the jpg you shared on this comment. Regarding the USB C to Ethernet Adapter, your pico 4 should recognized this adapter and once the ethernet cable is connected to it and to your router, your pico 4 should get wired network access, if the cable is connected to the same router your computer is on, then Virtual Desktop should find your computer no issues. What you need to do is to confirm if the wired network is working by first disabling WIFI on PICO 4 and then opening the browser within pico and see if you are able to access internet websites.

Thanks in advance!
The main benefit is less jittery connection, WIFI on PICO 4 tends to be a bit unstable sometimes.
hey, i‘ve got s question too
i‘ve seen thats you already answered questions about this topic:
i‘d like to connect the pico directly to my pc via ethernet, because my pc is in the wifi of my router, no cable.
the pc detects the network adapter and pico as „unkown network“
could it be possible somehow with usb tethering via pico or is there a risk of BSOD then?
you cannot connect the pico directly to the ethernet port on your PC, why? because most ethernet cables are "Straight through" cables only for connecting endpoint (computer, headset) to (network switches like an access point with ethernet ports).
Do i need to turn on USB tether in PICO settings when using this adapter?
Hello, no you do not need any extra configuration, just turn off your wifi within pico 4, and test you are able to access the internet with ethernet. Your pico and pc need to be on the same network.
Hello there! Thank for the tutorial. I was just wondering as I am in a situation whereby my router is too far away and wifi is too weak. I only have 1 RJ45 ethernet cable running across the house to my PC directly in my room. Am I able to disconnect the ethernet cable from my PC, connect it to a ethernet switch and have the pico 4 (and my PC) connect to the switch as well?
Yes. That's how I am using it. Make sure the switch you buy has 1Gbps ports instead of 100Mbps.
Is this connection better than USB A to C direct single wire connection?
Thanks ❤best method ❤WOW 1200mbs connection ❤ 20ms so clean and smooth vr playing ❤🎉 thanks❤
Hello. Adapter can handle 400mbit ?
So when you plug the charger into the adapter you can use the headset and it stays at 100% / keeps charging while playing?
Depends how the wattage of the dc power adapter you connect the power cable to. It needs to be at least as strong as the original pico 4 power adapter.
It works for me and the connection is flawless, but every now and then the connection simply stops. VD can't find my computer anymore and no internet until I reboot the Pico4. Does anyone have idea what could be causing this?
Considering this is nearly 6 months old .. is there any updates to this or a new cable etc? that you know of?
No, I am still using this method, no updates.
so you then use virtual desktop like this and you get a more solid connection?
yes, way more stable, no stutters, no blue screen, it is rock solid.
Did you test Pico 4 in wireless setup with separate wifi 6 router?
Hello, yes, I did buy a wifi 6 router recommended on the VD discord channel, and used it only with the PICO 4 connected via WIFI 6, still got stutters and jitter on the network latency, both with VD and PICO SA. No such issues with USB to Ethernet or USB Tethered.
@@JugandoRD How did you setup new router? I'm going to test mine Pico 4 with dedicated router and I'm thinking what will be the best setup for that :)
upgraded my router to the TP Link Deco 6E that has 3 Ethernet ports on the back of the router (two: 1gbps ports and one 2.4gbps port). I do know the Ethernet adapter worked on my old router...
does your PICO4 has internet connection through the USB to Ethernet adapter connected to your router? if not, then that's the issue.
would this setup help speed up the time taken for virtual desktop to find my shadow PC? I'm sitting right next to the router and can wait on average 15 minutes. Very useful video, thank you
Very unlikely, a shadow pc sits on the cloud which is subject to the extra latency on the internet, which could very between 30 ms - 250+ ms depending on where the closest point of presence is on your shadow pc provider.

How can the USB C to LAN connection (as explained in your tutorial) work with this set up? Thanks!
You may need a splitter adapter, usb and ethernet to usb c, that matches the usb cable version
If you check the USB C to Ethernet adapter I showed on this video you will see it has a charging port, you need to connect your USB C from the Bobovr to that charging port and the other end to the USB C on the Pico 4.

not familiar with that cable, but if it is a USB C to USB C cable, then I see no issues using it and connecting one side to the pico and the other to the USB C to Ethernet adapter using the same extensions I showed on the video.

Your pc must be connected to the same router via ethernet cable your pico is. You might make it work with your PC on wifi to the router your pico is connected to, but that defeats the whole purpose of this. You will have issues with latency spikes because of your pc on wifi.
@@JugandoRD appreciate your reply. I will purchase a second ethernet tomorrow.

so the ethernet from pico 4 to router not pc right?
correct, same router the pc is tethered to.
is it possible to connect directly the pico with Ethernet to pc, without going over the router?
