You might want to check your resolution settings in your PC's steam link settings. I believe the default is set to 90% or something resolution. If you bump that up to 125% or 150% it should look much sharper.
My network set up makes Steam Link unusable on my quest 2. I use the telecom Wireless AC router. There's so much artifacting and anything more than 1m away gives an unfocused myopia effect in Skyrim VR as well as lag sometimes. I've heard for years now, people talking about Virtual Desktop, I finally gave it a chance.. and it sucks.. there's a VERY clear lag/delay when you game and it seems to do everything worse than both Steam Link and Air Link. Refunded that crap.
I think VD has its uses, it's more customizable than air link and steam link. It also tends to be a little more stable and is updated more frequently. Most games for me look far better over air link though so I use it for almost all my PC VR gaming.

For me nothing beats 6-800mbps bitrate h264 on air link. I don't know why VD doesn't go that high, for me it caps out at just under 400mbps on h264+ and it looks a fair bit worse than air link. I've tried AV1 and HVEC at 200mbps on VD and it the compression is definitely more noticeable although better in most cases than h264+ on VD.
Do you still have to have a computer to be able to use the steam link on your TV?
Whats the difference between steam link and steam vr?
My life doesn’t have a lot of time to give to me for using steam link on my quest 2, but the last time I tried to use it my quest controllers were usable only for one of the games I got from the VR fest steam sale. It was a VR only title. Do you have a recommendation on what I need to do to get other games to work through steam link?
Honest question should I use airlink or Virtual Desktop? Like I have 0 problems with airlink currently but I just want to know if there is something better in virtual desktop and is it worth buying
If you have 0 issues with airlink, why consider spending more money on similar?
@@dantopps7332 Well you see thats what I wanted to know if VD is any better like maybe it has better customization, settings etc thats what I wanted to know and thats why I even asked my question
@@raitenmirka1623 did you find the answer to the question?
do you have to have a chord connected to use virtual desktop
no
My first video of yours. Clear and to the point. I like it 👍
My force feedback doesn't work when launching ACC from virtual desktop. Does anyone have a sollution for this?
Hi :) I've purchased a PICO 4 VR Headset and played VRChat today with wireless Steamlink-Connection. The expereince was not that good.. it was very blurry and I dunno.. just not graphixally overwhelming. (Looked like 1080p maximum). Would I get a better experience, when I run it witha cable for PCVR? ^^ Got a high end pc and a lan cable on it.
To be fair tho I have the same issues with Steam Link for other devices like my smartphone.
how do you get 120 fps on virtual desktop?
I've heard for years now, people talking about Virtual Desktop, I finally gave it a chance.. and it sucks.. there's a VERY clear lag/delay when you game and it seems to do everything worse than both Steam Link and Air Link.
Refunded that crap.
It’s surprising how different the experience on all three platforms can be from one set up to another.
I think VD has its uses, it's more customizable than air link and steam link. It also tends to be a little more stable and is updated more frequently. Most games for me look far better over air link though so I use it for almost all my PC VR gaming.
@@RushReality Have you tried air link at 600-800mbps bitrate, Encode Resolution Width set up correctly for quest 3 and Pixels Per Display Pixel Override set to 1.2 or 1.3 and rendering resolution set to 1.5x? It looks significantly better than anything VD or steam link can do.
There are no difference for me between Air Link and Steam Link, both looks and run beautifully and without issue. Virtual Desktop however, very very VERY clear delay in movements and actions, I only tried it for about an hour in Arizona Sunshine with different settings, but it was horrible.@@Kewickviper
i have a bug in vrsteam where l1 and r1 buttons move me around in the vr room while i am gaming and it F***s up my input in the game. I dont know if its the amd card that is causing it but i lean towards buying Nvidia because of it.
Hey. Do you have any idea why my quest 3 would connect to one PC without any problems (same network, LAN), but not connect to a second gaming PC? It just says unable to find the PC :(
Basically I can connect to my PC using virtual desktop, but my spouse can’t connect to their pc - using the same headset, different meta accounts.
I've got a question: is Virtual Desktop capable of connecting wirelessly via cable? I have a shitty wi-fi router from my ISP, which is also placed in a room far from my PC, so I believe that in my case it will have a lot of freezes while playing wirelessly.
This might not apply to you, but make sure your using the right codec. Just changing and trying another might improve performance. You change it using the VD pc desktop app.
"Wirelessly via cable" 🤣
hi sir, i purchased quest 3 recently but unable to transfer files from pc to quest 3. i saw many videos but they are very confusing. does virtual desktop for quest 3 allows to transfer files from pc to quest 3 ?
DOES VD NEEDS WIRE CONNECTED TO PC?
does it need high end pc, I HAVE RYZEN 3 3200G PROCESSOR IN PC WHICH DOES NOT HAVE TYPE C PORT.
can we wirelessly transfer data/files with virtual desktop from pc to quest 3?
PLEASE REPLY
wireless transferring is mot possible. next time google it because google exists.
Im looking for a way to add 2 virtual monitors and play multi-monitor games like trucking sim but meta link isnt capable of adding extra screens that u dont have irl. Is virtual desktop capable of adding screens and play on them with low latency?
You can have up to 3 virtual screens now.
My question is about stabilization option. How can I make it happen because I hate how fast I move my head and video with out stabilization option is not fun to watch, on @Rush Reality video I did see like a stabilization when screen is not shaking like crazy what happens for me.Any suggestions ?
I really don't think Valve will use Fresnel lenses, I think they will have eye tracking if they ever decide to release a headset..
i think your right and when I made this I had no idea that they had hidden away the functionality to utilise eye tracking with Steam Link. Very excited to see what Valve put out.
Virtual desktop has pixels artifacts in the right eye screen which totally ruin immersion for me! Until they resolve that bug, I'll be using steam and air link
我很想知道到底用谁串流更好
Good Video man.
Steam link is not work for me. I preferred virtual desktop. Much better experience
idk why but steamvr works better for me
any ideas?
I wont be using steamlink until they allow me to turn foveated rendering off
in some cases its very useful; but I agree it would be great to have the option
I guess it is a great feature if you have eye tracking...
Hey... So do you need to have your PC wired into your router, and then set up a second router on your PC that your oculus headset then connects to?
Or do you just connect virtual desktop to your PC?
I use wifi and I have had good experience turning on my Hotspot on my computer and connecting that on my quest 3
should i buu virutal destop on my pc or meta store?
Meta, the PC version doesn't do streaming, it's for pcvr only headsets, doesn't stream. Buy it in the quest store.
Would it be possible to use a cable and run VD through steam on a quest 3?@@chrisanderson3067
The most frustrating thing about Steam Link is using an Xbox controller. I think you just can't. Super annoying for games that require it.
Steam just enabled oversampling (or whatever it is called when you can set a really high resolution in SteamVR). Did this take that into account?
i not get steam vr working meta on qvest 2. and the only youtbe movie about it its 1 yers old to 3 yers old
I JUST PLAY ON STEAMLINK SINCE VIRTUAL DESKTOP LAGS FOR ME
does this work with quest 2?
Yes
Unfortunately, i have a connection problem with the VD app. I install windows again, I restart the quest 3 and reinstalling the vd app on Quest 3 and the pc, but whatever I do, the vd app can't find my pc, the app problem suddenly start 1 week ago, before that I easily connect to my computer without any problem. I also don't add any app or change anything to my pc. Also, the Steam link app and air link app are working without problem, and I use them right now for my pc vr gaming. This is really ridiculous for the paid app to have this kind of problem.
How do you get rid of the shimmering/jagged edges in the racing sims? I've tried everything under the sun to fix Project Cars 2, and can solve it. I have the Quest 3 and I'm running on a "decent" spec AMD 5600x and NVIDIA 3060ti OC.
steamlink is already better than oculus link cuz my game and my entire pc crashes after 15-30 minutes of playing or even an hour if im lucky and that doesnt happen AT ALL with steamlink
returned virtual desktop after finding out i couldnt add non vr games to the games tab whole reason i got it was because it seemed to be slightly more convenient i will say image quality looked alot sharper on virtual desktop however responsiveness and latency felt better on steam link all in all ill stick to steam link because most games i wanna play in vr are non vr games and i cant even add it to the games tab so its even less convenient then steam link for me
on steam link i cant play game parental block wont lets me how to do i get ride of it but my pc steam work fine
Sounds like if you've got a Regular Guy setup with a Quest 2 and whatever WiFi you already happened to have, Steam Link might be a win.
With how garbage Oculus AirLink with SteamVR was before, it's got to be an improvement.
VD is way way way ahead of SL
Can someone please redeem me a gift on a virtual desktop? I am from Nigeria. I've tried all ways to buy a virtual desktop but it doesn't work. I even bought a dollar credit card and a meta gift card but it still doesn't work. Can someone really help me please? I need a virtual desktop
steam link is so buggy.
Valve stole this its not new
Pico already had this
And its way better two
Valve had been streaming from your PC for a long time. They just finally added vr support. Virtual desktop was first in this space, Pico and oculus came after.
@@coltynstone-lamontagne gues your not a long VR user because you dont get it
Its the app it self that lets you stream from your headset without the need of VD or and cables
The steam streaming app or what ever it called is a direct coppy of pico streaming asisstance
