  • In this video I covered the basics steps of sequencing with the use of 3 tracks. In future videos will go more advanced, but this is a great starting point for many people who are new to sequencing and or the Fantom G.

I just bought my Fantom G8 couple of weeks ago & your videos brought me up to speed real quick brother! Having knowledge & know how with other workstations makes the G8 learning curve a lot more simple & easier on myself

Ed..I've been looking for someone to speak plain English and dymystify the sequencer. You did that for me in less than 20 minutes. That just made my $3000 purchase all the more worthwhile. You rock!!! :-)

Thank you so much for your videos! I just picked up a fantom two days ago and the user manuel and on the roland site the lessons are very long. This is very helpful. I'll continue to watch all your vids as long as you keep making them

Thanx 4 this, I think u make the best FG8 videos, (dummy proof). Could u please make the following videos:
How to play on top of a looped sample that u chopped on the FG8...
How to make a snare roll without tapping it out on the keys (as heard on most rap songs 2day).
I know I'm asking alot, but I do truly appreciate ur work. Thanx in advance...

Oh man, the UI and workflow is so much better than Korg M3, Krome or Kronos. Maybe Korg made the first workstation but Roland made the best.

As always, Ed Diaz does a fabulous job breaking things down, however, I have a different way of looking at these things, as the Keyboard Workstation concept is continually trying to come closer to emulating DAW: I would rather play out the whole 4 measures of a drum beat, for instance, instead of copying it 3 times more: why? because I am strange? lol, of course, I am, but that is not why: there is a method to my madness: I play to not only make music but to get better at my craft....playing more, makes me better, and gets me to stick with the proper metronome beat a longer time, in addition to that, I rarely play the same exact drum patterns over and over, but I prefer to make every measure or so just a little bit different: especially with velocity sensitive keys that we have, so , maybe the emphasis on the snare drum is a little louder, or the timing is slightly offset, or whatever, so that it doesn't sound like a drum machine but a real drummer.

thank you for you comment response! Could you make a video for the mic input as far as setting parameters and all the neat effects the fantom has to offer for voice and instruments? Do you suggest for vocals to use a dat in my case protools over the fantom?

I just got a Fantom G, created a liveset, how do i import a liveset into the sequencer so all my efforts are not duplicated?

Hello Ed, does this sequencer (fantom-G) works as a linear sequencer similar, or same, as the Fantom-S? My work flow doesn’t need loops or patterns, just the contrary. I’m having a hard time accepting that the most advanced keyboard models only offer that kind of pattern/loop sequencer. I own the new Fantom-8, although I’m familiar with working with the computer and IPad, it is still very hard to work without the control keys prompt in front of me. I have accompanied many of your videos which are a great help. But still can’t understand why the sequencers now are limited now to that type of music production. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it does. When you hit ( RECORD ) and are setting up your new song, look where it says
( RECORD ENDPOINT) To ( RECORD LENGTH )
pre-assign the total number of measures for the length of your song and you have that many measures to record all your
parts. Example: If your song is 64 measures... Make your ( RECORD LENGTH ) 65 MEASURES, and you will have 64
measures to work in... So it just comes down to how long your song is to determine your total measure length.
      Hope that helped.

Loop I would say usually gets in the way of creative potential unless of course you're wanting to produce this type thing. It doesn't have to be used of course and I would encourage that people don't if they want to expand their understanding of music shape. It seems synths more and more these days provide ways to limit the creative process but at least you can bypass them. Nice keyboard though by the looks of it. Are the orchestral sounds comparable to the Roland XP50 orchestral expansion board I wonder?. Would like to get a new machine some point but the strings from the Roland board are fairly exceptional still and I don't wish to downgrade
