I always liked the attention to detail on the hybrid forms, Michael was a lycan first, so his form is more wolf like, whereas Marcus was a vampire first, so his form is more bat like
To be fair Michael is an incomplete super weapon. He was supposed to be made from Lucien's and Amelia's blood; elders from their respective races. He ended up only getting half of that equation and missed out on Elder Vampire blood. That said it doesn't really explain why Marcus is such an impossibly powerful regenerator in comparison. Unless it's based entirely on his age.
Marcus is the original Vampire, meaning his blood is stronger than Amelia's and also stronger than Lucien. While Lucien was the first Lycan, he wasn't the first Werewolf. THat was William.
You know, if there is one thing I was really disappointed with in this movie, it was how William died. It's pretty obvious that Marcus's plan was to turn William into a Hybrid like himself, that way it would eliminate his plague like werewolf strain while also enabling him to gain more control over himself, becoming a hybrid similar to Micheal, who despite being very animalistic, is still capable of thought and reason. How cool would it have been to see William turn into a more intelligent creature and prove more of a match for micheal.
Too bad, or thank goodness(?), the protagonists arrived before he had the chance. I am disappointed this review skipped how Marcus mournfully cried William's name.
If Marcus could contain William enough to make that possible. But William is far too feral he could wind up betraying Marcus. Even if he were to be turned into a hybrid William could still have hidden agendas of his own.
17:22 , to add to the weirdness. michael sheen (lucian) and kate (selene) were long time domestic partners who even had a child together 3 years before underworld was made. so, they were a couple for years, had a kid, broke up and then 2 years later are in a movie where they are trying to kill eachother most of the movie... wow, i wonder how that casting call back went.
apparently they are really good friends, i figured it was a recommendation. just thought it was unique kind of situation. i wonder if their kid watches it, shows the film to their friends and says something like: "wanna watch my parents try to kill each other?" lol i could totally see that.
its a really cool thing to see them that comfortable with each other after the breakup. i know there are ex spouses whom work together all the time, but rarely on a film in front of the camera ( multiple marriages and consequent break ups not with standing). Just seeing two people with that kind of history, being actors as well in the same movie, just shows their cores as people which is commendable IMHO
I always assumed that Alexander's blood didn't really change Selene. It was just that drinking regular blood made her powerful, so drinking immortal blood was like super-charging her.
Wait, so Marcus is the first vampire, meaning that every other vampire owes their existence to him, and also depend on him for their survival (or so they believed)...then Why The Heck Isn't He The One In Charge?! Something must have gone seriously wrong for him to basically be "vampire Adam", and still wind up as someone else's bitch! O.o
It's also so that if people attempt to kill the vampire progenitor with the idea of killing all the vampires. They would go after Victor and keep the real progenitor alive. So it's not only Politics but misdirection.
I was so confused by that plot point too. Like, yesh I understand Viktor has William and this Marcus didn't want to risk his brother's safety but, every vampire sided with this?? EVERYONE?? Not one of the vamps Marcus sired thought it would be a bad idea to go against their creator? Or even felt like Viktor deserved death for going against their creator? Like I have a hard time buying Viktor held more power over Marcus THAT much to the point he couldn't turn the others on Viktor for this. The guards holding William might have been sired by Viktor and thus, owe more to him but than I still find one plot hole... The elders leap forging through time. Two asleep, one awake every thousand years or so. How da duck did Marcus NOT kill Viktor when he was awake and the other two were sleeping? Yet Viktors body in the sun and poof! Problem solved.
Its such a shame that with each film more and more of the setting is removed, the first film we loes two coven leaders and what you have to guess is most of the command structures of the vampires and the same for the werewolfs, the second film we loes tanus (a character that could have been really interesting) marcus completely destroys the main coven and what you have to think is at least 1/3 of the vampires on the planet if not a lot more we also loes Alexander corvinus who could be a super intresting character, i mean an Immortal that has never gone into hibernation think of the stuff he will have seen (even if he did a terrible job of hiding vampires just ask bram stoker) and we also loes marcus and William meaning the vampires now have now leaders, the setting is desamated (and i mean that in the real meaning aka 1in10) but its all the intresting parts that have been taken out.
I keep thinking that either that this movie is paying homage to, or is taking impiration from Vlad The Impaler through Marcus. I mean with constant impaling. Not really sure, or if it is at all.
A man like Viktor as for Alexander he knows that he needs someone else to kill his sons. He doesn't want the guilt if he did the job himself. Or he could've locked Marcus up like Viktor did William.
I LOVE your thorough reviews! I've been once again binging through whole series'. I just thought I'd offer one alternate perspective. I never had trouble with Viktor (because cool vampires only spell their names with K's) believing Markus' lie that killing the source kills all the infected. First, when Viktor was turned, there was no science and this explanation made as much sense as any. Over time, it is logical that it would become more of a belief than a hypothesis. Second, Viktor prioritizes himself over all else. Even if there is a 0.01% chance that Markus could be right, Viktor would refuse to take that risk to his own life.
I guess it depends on the specific lore. But in most stories that have vampires only be able to ingest blood normal food is not particularly toxic to them, they just cannot digest it. So they end up throwing it up, which probably isn't the most pleasant experience.
Vampires bodies are designed to survive off blood so it makes sense. It doesn't make sense while Micheal can't survive on normal food. We're told he's supposed to be stronger than both creatures, meaning all of their biggest weaknesses should be moot, which seemingly is the case as Micheal can survive silver and sunlight, but making it that he needs blood to survive is pretty weak.
if anything it would've made him a vampire or given him the traits. mark and will had his blood until they were bitten by their spirit animals. all they passed on from that was the were/vamp trait respectively not the corvinus mutation. so her feedin on alex would've given her the pure strain... ok that last bit is a shot in the dark but that is the only thing i can think of that would make sense lmao
About the not blinking when firing a gun thing. Is it possible that their blinking in the first movie might have been edited out to make it seem like they were used to gunfire? Given how little the filmmakers seemed to care in this movie, it wouldn't surprise me if they were just too lazy to give it the same detailed editing as the first.
2 possibilities for the 'blood memories' thing. 1: It only works when they drink the blood of vampires or lycans, i.e. blood containing the virus, and it has to do with the interaction of the virus. 2: Yes, it happens with everyone, and the vampires are getting overwhelmed by it, which is why they've developed artificial blood that doesn't *have* any memories to transfer.
@@fightingmedialounge519 Good point. I think that would come under the first possibility, since the virus is transmitted through bites. If I recall, Michael only started seeing the memories after he'd started to fully change (and got sedated to control him). At that point, he could be considered a full Lycan, rather than simply infected.
On him still thinking if marcus dies, they all die, thats explained because in the first movie with their sleeping cycles, i think due to the comment on how early he was awoken, its safe to say they sleep for two hundred years, and stay awake for one hundred, so he woukd have been sleeping through most of the 20th and 21st centry
The thing about the intro is, while I know they want Victor to be more of an evil guy, I feel like they make him go to far, as from how they leave things there I would NOT have Marcus on the being alive rotation while I'm dead, as if I was Marcus I'd just have him dug up and killed or put in a cage, as he's clearly a huge threat to you, and would definitely kill you if he ever found out he could.
one major problem about the one bitten by bat thing vampire bats are native to North and South America exclusively and given the timeline for when Marcus Was Bitten somewhere around the 11th century inshort predating the discovery of the Americas
Rewatching this, I'm reminded of the issue I have with the entire motivation around Marcus. At literally no point in his plan did he *need* to be a super aggro bad guy. Literally all of his objectives could have been accomplished either through diplomacy or stealth, things vampires are RENOWNED for being good at. He could have gone through with his entire plan, and even had people believing he was just a goody-two-shoes the entire time. But no. Slaughter everyone, and give people a reason to resist your plans. Also, I will give them credit for sticking to the shitty plot point of killing the dude responsible for hiding their shit. That actually comes to have real, legitimate consequences for both sides, not even that long after it happens. Which I mean, kinda cool that they show how dumb that move was on Marcus' part.
I never realized that because of Alexander the world of awakening didnt happen, but when he died and blew up the ship, there was no one to hide the bodies of the lycan or vamps and I wish that this didnt happen because I hate the newer underworld movies, but does anyone think this was intentional sequel bait, or a throwaway death that the producers took advantage of. And I guess there's the chance that they had no idea about this and they just made a movie which happened to fit into the previous canon
A chance? they're making it up as they go along and the proof of that is the fact that in awakening the vampires are on the brink of extinction and in blood wars they make zero reference to that "purge" or any of the events/situations of awakening, yeah davids there and eve is mentioned but thats about it.
I never actually watched blood wars, only your review, which I'm rewatching now, but if that's the case then you're completely right, i just wish they did have some thought put into one of my favourite movies sequel
i wanna point out that if it is a viral infection and the sun hurts the vamps on a biological level, it could be the elements WITHIN the UV ray that hurt them not the light itself and that so long as their being clocked by special glass it doesn't hurt, kinda like the uv in blade 2 where the gun lights are covered by a lense, it could be DIRECT touch by the light that hurts too, but that woulnd't explain the warehouse scene, so i'm gonna say special glass that blocks the harmful elements of the sun, like how you can use special glass on sunglasses and regular glass to block glare
A super easy fix for William being in the shape he is would have simply been for this prison of his to be supernatural, and to essentially keep him in a form of statis. Or for such a powerful Lycan to be unable to starve but instead just falls into an eternal coma/slumber once they get famished enough. Anything could have worked really and wouldn't have required any additional money or scenes to explain.
before the end of the first film it's possible the vampires had used their connections and money to make micheals story force him to look like the bad guy to make it harder for him t hide, this of course might have worked if selene didn't pop in and start helping him and so and so forth, not to mention, even IF that hasn't happened, the man's been missing for some time and i've no doubt some evidence of violence and death has been left behind by the events in the first movie and since them, meaning their is a possibility that the news has told people he may be dangerous, and he police are being cautious, maybe a little over zealous, but given how some cops over react in real life situations because they wanna be 100 percent cautious about how dangerous someone could be, it wouldn't be unusual for the police to ac this way towards micheal, wether he was kidnapped or not, he's been avoiding the police and legal authority for some time and therefore could bring up suspicion about his danger, of course, i also mixed up will and mark with rom and rem of roman myth earlier on one of the other videos, so, take everything i say with a grain of salt i suppose
If your planning on doing any review of games, do it in sort of the movie review and include the flaws of logic or reason you'd highlight in your movie reviews. Such as the gameplay or the story aspect. If you do take the time out of your busy day to read this, take the suggestion I put their in mind and thanks for reading.
I always wondered how Marcus knows how to use a computer. Victor's line in Underworld about leap-frogging thru time, leads me to believe the elders hibernate for decades, if not centuries. Even if its decades, there's no reason he should be able to understand computers. If the movie takes place in the mid-2000s, even the primitive version of that kind of technology is no more than 30 years old. It just seems silly for the elders to sleep for such a short period of time
They definitely sleep for at least a century. Craven told Victor that he was awoken a century too early (Amelia was supposed to wake up Markus and she would go to sleep). I assume the other elder would catch them up to speed via the memory transfer. Including on important new technology. Of course none of this is relevant for Markus since he was awakened by a random dead lycan who definitely didn't arrange his thoughts and memories to make them coherent for Markus. Indeed; the first movie made a point about memory transfer being difficult to do properly without experience and yet Markus is just sucking up people's memories, knowing exactly which ones to look for, without issue.
One thing I really don't understand is whether Marcus is actually a hybrid or not. I don't see any evidence to indicate he's anything but a vampire elder. My next question would be why is he trying to kill Michael and Selene? They actually did him a favor by killing Victor and Michael would be far too useful as a hybrid, it really doesn't make sense. I love all of the movies except Blood Wars but there are quite a few problems with each one.
Duesdaceon, my answer to your question about Lucien not knowing about the necklace. having a lock. He may have dicovered it & wondered what it was & what it meant so Lucien went to find answers alone. He runs into Tanis who by this time was exciled by Selene. He shows Tanis the necklace & wants answers since it belonged to his dead love Sonya. Tanis tells him the tale so Lucien offers to give Tanis protection against Tanis's bretheren as for the Lycan bodyguards Tanis may have aquired them after Lucien left. Lucien goes to wear William is held he senses him as I'm sure William senses Lucien. Lucien thinks hard & realizes William needs to be kept locked up or the world will indeed drown in lycans so Lucien leaves but decides to keep the secret to himself.
Which is a crap ton of assumptions the films makes zero indication to, Im not saying they're isn't a possible explanation, of course there is, Im saying its something the writers never bothered to include or even insinuate, cause I'm not in the business of doing a writers job for them okay, if they're lazy or incompetent, me nor anyone else should have to film in the blanks.
+Deusdaecon Reviews Well this was just something I thought about after watching your reviews on this movie. And it seems like Micheal isn't given a lot to do in this franchise. They don't bother to have Selene teach how to defend himself.
Having Selene's father be the one who built William's prison opens up at least one nasty plot hole, or at least makes this unnecessarily complicated. Let me explain: So, Viktor killed Selene's family to keep the location of William's prison a secret. But from the flashbacks, it looks like Selene was a child when her father worked for Viktor, but an adult when Viktor turned her. Why did he wait so long? It's not like he was ever hesitant to kill someone if he felt it was necessary. Plus, there's all the complications with the timeline in the prequel, like that Selene had to have been alive at that time, otherwise there's no way they could have had the necklace to make William's prison in the first place. And the real problem is that there's a really, really simple solution to this - have Tanis be the one to tell Selene and Michael where William is. There's no reason for Selene to have a personal connection to all this.
I did attempt to talk about the viktor and selene age/ took so long to kill the family thing, but at the time I wasn't able to articulate what I needed to say in a meaningful way or with brevity at the time of writing, so you took the words right out my mouth on this one.
Hey, I get missing some stuff. This video is already almost 40 minutes long, and I have no idea how long it would take to put something like this together. I'm just glad to contribute something. I could also go more into issues with the timeline. Just how old is Selene supposed to be? And in the first movie, she said the vampire-lycan war had been going on for almost a millennium - so was that the war against Lucian and his lycans, or just werewolves in general? And if Viktor killed Selene's family shortly after the events in the prequel, then where the hell is Kraven? (Side-note: I'm kind of surprised you didn't point out the pun in "Kraven", but I guess it's a bit too obvious.) And to think, all these issues came up because of the *good* movies.
Also, Viktor's daughter seems to have the necklace already when she dies. (Both in flashback and prequel.) If Sonja has the necklace in the prequel when she is a child does this mean that Selene and Sonja were born at the same time? If so, why did Viktor give half of the lock to William's "tomb" to his daughter? Ok, she was a vampire, but still a child. What if she loses it? One would think that Viktor would like to keep the necklace safe...Couldn't an adult protect the necklace better? I mean he could have had this "You are of age now and part of the council, you shall have this necklace now, as a token of my trust." thing instead. Was the necklace made to lock and open William's prison? Or did Viktor have the necklace at home and already and he just wanted the mechanism made in a way that would fit the necklace? For some reason...
Regarding the BS about the first lycan coming out of his 600-year prison like nothing happened: What's sad is that the writers already had an interesting idea in their back pocket if they had even bothered to look. You know how the head vampires kept themselves in those chambers for centuries looking all mummified? They could have had it so this was the lycan version of it! Hell! They could have made it the very first one of its kind! It would make a lot of sense, too! Not only would this have been made by the vampires, obviously, but it would make sense to put a super strong werewolf in suspended animation since he's in a 600-year-old stone prison with no guards or even a regular maintenance staff. And not forgetting those who come out of that suspended animation required gallons of blood to literally rehydrate themselves (for vampires, anyway), you could have it be the same for the lycan, if with a different food source. In fact, have the "food source" be Michael! Have it where learning about the hybrid is Markus' call to action. After so many centuries, there is at last hope for him to free his brother from his prison while also restoring his humanity. However, the amount of meat/blood that would be required to restore his brother would kill Michael. Furthermore, there's an equal chance that it may turn his brother into an even worse abomination that would allow him to create other feral lycans from not just people, but vampires and other lycans as well. Feral lycans that are immune to both silver and sunlight. The chances of whether it'll indeed help Markus' brother or doom the world is 50/50 with it killing Michael a 100%. Setting up a villain arc where Markus is too blinded by his love for his brother, resentment for his father, and his own guilt & regret to listen to anyone, following blind hope! This way you continue to build on top of the plot from the previous movie (if indirectly), you give Markus a compelling motivation, up the anti with the real global threat, and adding some personal stakes for Celine!
This movie is actually pretty good for me. At least it’s not a train wreck like Awakening. Not only was the giant Lycan ridiculous, but the “being able to hide my vampire eyes” thing was always dumb to me.
I have always wondered why the hell they bothered changing Michael's hair color in this one. In the first Underworld, he is very clearly a darker dirty blonde. But now in Evolution he is suddenly and out of nowhere rocking almost jet-black hair. But why? Does him now being a hybrid also change his hair color somehow?
@@jsb6975.ah.crapbaskets now that i think about it he just could have had some of his men come into the room, close his eyes and have one take it and then they all leave so he had no idea who has it and the guy who does could just fuck off to the other end of the world, lost forever
Actually I thought the Alexander and Selen scene was actually pretty correct given that the dude who created the series has a background and genetics Corvina’s while having the original on the mutated strain he’s able to pass on his direct affliction
12:56 "You can't tell me that a shotgun blast wouldn't do at least the same amount of damage." Last I checked, no one, I mean NO ONE can survive a shotgun blast at point blank range to the stomach. Whether wearing armor or not.
To be fair he was only awake for a little while genetic research had only existed for a relatively short span of time from his perspective and it was a belief he had held for century's give the guy some time to process.
in all honesty I like rise of the lykans because it was the first underworld movie I watched also ur 1st review is blocked in my country by lasso xD wtf
"Who is gona clean up and keep licans and vampires secret now?" To be fair in the next movie in the timeline humans end up finding the existence of bouth so... Thats consistent.
Marcus is a descendent of corvinus so he already had the potential to become a hybrid and when he was woken up by the werewolf blood leaking into his vault, thats what turned him into a hybrid at the end of the first film.
The one thing about this movie that has always irritated me, is that the entirety of the conflict between Selene and Markus is unnecessary. Pretty sure he just wanted to collect what memories and incite he could from her blood plus that medallion thing and then go off on his merry-way (Which would not have been that difficult considering she just let Michael drink some of her blood, like seconds before Markus shows up, also she has no reason at all to want that medallion). Even after they make a run for it. Markus flies along side the truck and still offers a somewhat peaceful resolution “alive or dead I will get what I want”.... just give the dude what he wants lol
The point was that william and the werewolves the creates as we saw at the start, are akin to a plague, Thats why william was locked away in the first place, So selene is trying to prevent the lycan based pandemic.
Marcus could have been made very Interesting. And after This many years, centuries, William could have been interesting. Hell, since Lucian was able to kick the silver bullets out and he was unique in his nature, Bringing Lucian back, or showing that he hadn't actually died. The Crap of incoherence of this story might have been nicely managed by William escaping in the various disasters and coming face to face with Lucian. Lucian held control over the other crazy Lyman's. Seeing this born Lycan could have had a profound impact upon William, maybe even allowing his mind to be functional as it hadn't been for centuries. This would allow William to be a usable character and Lucian not only not dead, but also vital for the continuation of the Lycans existence as opposed to the crap they continued with Underworld 3. It would have been more interesting than the contrived crap of the end of 1 the whole of 2 and 3. What is it with choosing stories to be shit rather than rich with complex growth. Lazy, relying on guns and fetish Ware. Tiresome.
I was wondering when, I'm binge watching your Underworld reviews so I was wondering about that. I'm kind of biased with the Underworld movies since I watched them over and over since I was small (yes I'm younger than what I sound like) but I still love them, even though I understand they are pretty stupid.
Deusdaecon Reviews I'm still salty about how Eve looks basically nothing like Michael when she transforms. Since vampires don't really age, how can they have children? I have many questions after Awakening, that I hoped would be fixed in Blood Wars, but no.
The movie is definitely slow and has plot holes but I LOVED the expanded lore, the action, and the understandable wall between Selene and Michael for much of the movie. The finale? Absolutely epic, I just love how ferociously Michael rips off William's head. I personally would give it a score of 9/10 and the first Underworld movie a 8.5/10 because I felt is dragged on more and had maybe even more plot issues, not to mention the finale between Selene and Viktor was disappointing but perhaps that's the point considering the power differences.
Okay, I never really understood what Alexander was. His sons were a vamp and a werewolf. Is he just some kind of non vampire/lycan Immortal being or is he also a hybrid?
I don't wanne sound too rued , but The super weapon of Michael as a hybrid kinda failed , they wanted Elder vampire blood. Which the main antagonist is
Bram51Gaming You're not rude, that's one of the main subpoints that the writers were going for. Selene can only give Michael a diluted strain of elder blood. In the end, it is Selene who becomes the super-weapon in her efforts to protect her partner (and later her child). Nothing ever turns out according to plan.
Actually this kind of falls apart because it's not really suggested that Marcus gets Elder Werewolf blood even though he's an Elder Vampire. So technically by that level. They should be pretty equal so what it ends up being is a matter of experience and age being in the favor of Marcus. The fight at the Monastary where Michael easily dispatches the physically powerful werewolves shows that Michael himself is not weak. Marcus simply has had a lot more time to become better and understand the potentiality of his powers a lot more clearly.
I’m not sure I understand the question, do you mean she’s so strong because she was made by victor ? there didn’t really seem to be anything special about victor in terms of strength he was just really good and manipulation.
It feels like Marcus was poorly written. He had no reason to murder Michael and he would have known that William was uncontrollable. In hindsight, this was very forced. On an unrelated note, Alexander's blood had the pure form of the virus so drinking it wouldn't make Selene a hybrid, it simply supercharged the residual Corvinus strain in her blood. She basically became the equivalent of a Vampire elder, equal to Marcus. That's just what I think happened. However, I agree that Selene still shouldn't be able to walk in the sunlight.
@@deusdeaconReviews But how is Marcus a hybrid? That never made sense to me because it was made clear in the very beginning that the lycans needed a pure strain of the virus. Also, while I didn't question it at the time, drinking Alexander's blood shouldn't give Selene immunity to sunlight because she's still a vampire. She never shows any signs of being different so what's going on? I'm just curious to know.
what you need to create a hybrid is vampire virus, were wolf virus and corvinus blood, because if you remeber Micheal became a hybrid through Lucian and Selene to quote “ Even at the cellular level, our species seemed destined to destroy each other. Yet the key, we knew... was to locate the rarest of bloodlines... a direct descendant of Alexander Corvinus” and “ his body was able to change the disease... mold it to his benefit” so Selene got Alexander’s ability to remove the negative side affects of the virus E.G sunlight, and Marcus because he already had both the vampire traits and pure corvinus blood, when werewolf blood was introduced a hybrid he became.
also to be clear the lycans needed a pure untainted source of corvinus blood in order to make anyone they wanted to be a hybrid not just that specific corvinus descent
@@deusdeaconReviews Ok, I get the reason for Selene's immunity, but the same source you quoted stated that Marcus was already a vampire, they needed a pure source. When Lucian bit Michael, he did say that Michael wouldn't become a full lycan for at least two days. Maybe it's just flying over my head but I don't understand. I was still writing this when you sent your next reply.
I know this is old, but Victor was ASLEEP during the entirety of modern scientific research. He had no way of knowing about viruses or even the synthetic blood, as he couldn't stand the taste of 'livestock', as in animals. It's basic logic that doesn't need a show or a tell in any of the movies.
N. H. L-H Yes, it does. Selene spends one night away from the house - explicitly stated aloud several times - after she revives Victor, then Victor tries the next night to kill Lucien. When I was a teen I owned this movie and watched it dozens of times. One of the only things it has is a very clear timeline, which is actually a failing because of how fast Selene falls for Michael.
N. H. L-H ... I take that as you claiming that she's on a separate timeline from everyone else, which means you're just spewing nonsense now. Victor could barely get names from his visions. He did not get the viral rundown from them, period. I can't see where a conversation with you could move forward where you can't see the incredulous look on my face from how your statements have made less and less sense. Regardless, I'm giving you the 'Seriously?' face right now.
You know what. I personally love all 4 films. 1 through 3 are great, and I think of 4 as a decent film, with having similarities to the crow salvation, in having more problems then achievements, but over all still a decent movie.
I can understand that. Its like I just said tho. Similar to Crow salvation it has a bunch of errors in it, but over all is still an enjoyable film. lol
+Joshua Peterson Yes, I will concede that sometimes I nit-pick but it mostly comes from the fact that I love when filmakers have attetion to detail it shows real effort and passion for the film, when the small things are missed, to me it just feel like a waste and a huge missed oppertunity to show they care, thats just how I see things honestly.
+deusdeacon which is why i still love your reviews. Passion is too often a missing quality among movie makers, let alone those of us who simply partake of the art.
@@deusdeaconReviews Oh, thanks for the info. I had no idea. Stupid UA-cam. Why "protect" a video to such a degree that I literally can't even know that it exists. Sheer lunacy on their part.
Underworld taking place in Hungary is both stupid and pointless. I always thought the first film took place in Britain since like 95% of the characters seem to be english. Which is why I was thoroughly confused when I first saw this and people started speaking Hungarian.
She didn't bite ALexander she she just sucked.... the blood from his, um, wound. Heh heh heheheh heh heh. Cool. ;P At this point when they bone and he nibblies on her she should turn into a super hybrid wolfpire vampcan whatever.
I just feel I should point out that this is the first UA-cam video I've seen in I-don't-know-how-long with over 100 likes, but no dislikes whatsoever. It's amazing how foreign that feels to me. Great work!
arghhhhh! your Underworld 1 review has been blocked. you should upload your videos to www.archive.org where it is free to upload unlimited files. it alsomcomes with a rss feed.
i do realise that you are a critic and its your job to review a film but you really are nit picking in alot of them especially this one , continuity errors aside you really do put a downer on what i consider to be a decent movie.
Couldn't William also become a hybrid and regain some of his intelligence? In fact, why didn't Marcus make him a hybrid the moment he freed him? He had more than enough time.
I always liked the attention to detail on the hybrid forms, Michael was a lycan first, so his form is more wolf like, whereas Marcus was a vampire first, so his form is more bat like
i really wanted to see more of amelia in the movies. I mean she was an ancient after all..

+Tiffany Gardner
Boy would William have seemed ungrateful then.
I have a feeling if William became a hybrid he would've kicked Micheal's ass.
You never know they might have helped each other with recommendations, to get auditions/casting
apparently they are really good friends, i figured it was a recommendation. just thought it was unique kind of situation. i wonder if their kid watches it, shows the film to their friends and says something like: "wanna watch my parents try to kill each other?" lol i could totally see that.
its a really cool thing to see them that comfortable with each other after the breakup. i know there are ex spouses whom work together all the time, but rarely on a film in front of the camera ( multiple marriages and consequent break ups not with standing). Just seeing two people with that kind of history, being actors as well in the same movie, just shows their cores as people which is commendable IMHO
I don't think theres a kid on the planet who wouldn't do that, I'd totally do that.
um..... well YEAH! : P
All Marcus wanted to do was Free Willy ; )
Does anyone else think that Marcus looks almost EXACTLY like the Vampire Lord form in Skyrim?
Don't you mean it the other way around?
resembling a humanoid bat isn't exactly an uncommon depiction for vampires
Does anyone know the Van Helsing movie and Dracula's form? No? Just me? Okay
Does anyone else think marcus looks exactly like van gogh on dr who...
Does anyone think Victor looks exactly like the guy from the Van Gogh museum in Doctor Who?
I always assumed that Alexander's blood didn't really change Selene. It was just that drinking regular blood made her powerful, so drinking immortal blood was like super-charging her.
Well she is immune to sunlight now.
IAmTheUnison it's because viktor had William locked away and Marcus didn't want anything to happen to him so viktor used that to gain the power
Ok, so basically politics. That makes sense.
It's also so that if people attempt to kill the vampire progenitor with the idea of killing all the vampires. They would go after Victor and keep the real progenitor alive. So it's not only Politics but misdirection.
If it was just miderection or politics Marcus could still be technically in charge.
Problem solved.
wait so as I get it there is a "LOOK AT MY HOT WIFE"moment here?
Why did she speak Russian to the truck driver in Hungary?
Iam Cleaver first watch this I wondered that myself, then I realized in a deleted scene they had to go to Russian To find Alexander
@@ronniehopper2726 Also Beckinsale actually speaks Russian. Well pronounced wrong foreign language still sounds pretty convincing.
I keep thinking that either that this movie is paying homage to, or is taking impiration from Vlad The Impaler through Marcus. I mean with constant impaling. Not really sure, or if it is at all.
What man could kill his own kids ?
Why would normal food be bad for vampires. I never really figured that one out
I guess it depends on the specific lore.
There are people to this day who believe in both science and their own mythology/religion. Not that far-fetched that a vampire as old as Viktor would.
But michale got luscious memories.
@@fightingmedialounge519 Good point. I think that would come under the first possibility, since the virus is transmitted through bites. If I recall, Michael only started seeing the memories after he'd started to fully change (and got sedated to control him). At that point, he could be considered a full Lycan, rather than simply infected.
that he takes his shirt of is something I like to call jacobism
On him still thinking if marcus dies, they all die, thats explained because in the first movie with their sleeping cycles, i think due to the comment on how early he was awoken, its safe to say they sleep for two hundred years, and stay awake for one hundred, so he woukd have been sleeping through most of the 20th and 21st centry
This is where the series gets really really blue.
I don’t think they are being literal, Even if they were it’s almost certainly not true anyway
@@deusdeaconReviews I only bring it up because Kevin Grevioux has a master's degree in genetic engineering, and it was on the Blu-ray commentary
Donno why but I always kinda hoped Marcus and William would win.
2:42 genetics wasn't that populer in 1899 also werewolves have quite a bit of mass why would they be scientific?
im really excited to see your next review! the prequel was actual the first underworld movie i saw
5:17 so the people who wanted to use her boyfriend as a bioweapon ?
A super easy fix for William being in the shape he is would have simply been for this prison of his to be supernatural, and to essentially keep him in a form of statis. Or for such a powerful Lycan to be unable to starve but instead just falls into an eternal coma/slumber once they get famished enough. Anything could have worked really and wouldn't have required any additional money or scenes to explain.
before the end of the first film it's possible the vampires had used their connections and money to make micheals story force him to look like the bad guy to make it harder for him t hide, this of course might have worked if selene didn't pop in and start helping him and so and so forth, not to mention, even IF that hasn't happened, the man's been missing for some time and i've no doubt some evidence of violence and death has been left behind by the events in the first movie and since them, meaning their is a possibility that the news has told people he may be dangerous, and he police are being cautious, maybe a little over zealous, but given how some cops over react in real life situations because they wanna be 100 percent cautious about how dangerous someone could be, it wouldn't be unusual for the police to ac this way towards micheal, wether he was kidnapped or not, he's been avoiding the police and legal authority for some time and therefore could bring up suspicion about his danger, of course, i also mixed up will and mark with rom and rem of roman myth earlier on one of the other videos, so, take everything i say with a grain of salt i suppose
hey are you planning on reviewing Jeepers Creepers
I can't help but see Datak Tarr with a tan. Curran is one of the best sophisticated, intelligent villains ever
I really enjoy your reviews
Having Selene's father be the one who built William's prison opens up at least one nasty plot hole, or at least makes this unnecessarily complicated. Let me explain:
So, Viktor killed Selene's family to keep the location of William's prison a secret.
(Side-note: I'm kind of surprised you didn't point out the pun in "Kraven", but I guess it's a bit too obvious.)
And to think, all these issues came up because of the *good* movies.
What's with all the ads at the end of the review? I got 4 within 2 minutes
One hell of a haircut... yeah, pretty sure that should've been a textbook 'long loose hair is dangerous in the workshop' demonstration xD
28:21 I imagine that will go about as well as the last time he sired a new race. XD
This franchise has the same problem the Blade franchise has: only the protagonist seems be "super powered." Everyone else is weak.
Wait, was the first movie in Hungary? I thought they were in America.
hiding the medallion wouldn't have done much, blood memories remember
yeah but hiding it in a very difficult place to find would still be a better idea
Marcus would've been fucked if his father decided to just throw it into the ocean.
@@jsb6975.ah.crapbaskets now that i think about it he just could have had some of his men come into the room, close his eyes and have one take it and then they all leave so he had no idea who has it and the guy who does could just fuck off to the other end of the world, lost forever

That's bloody brilliant. 🤣 Good thing he's smooth as a ken doll; no copulation without penetration! Heh
I remember the kinds of forums that posted screenshots and/or videos of that scene and everyone kept pointing out that very same thing.
Tommy Wiseau would be proud.
Actually I thought the Alexander and Selen scene was actually pretty correct given that the dude who created the series has a background and genetics Corvina’s while having the original on the mutated strain he’s able to pass on his direct affliction
I don't would have those exact effects.
12:56 "You can't tell me that a shotgun blast wouldn't do at least the same amount of damage."

depends on the shotgun, depends on the ammunition, depends on the armour.
@@deusdeaconReviews Hey hey! I never thought YOU'D respond! Love your videos, man. Keep up the awesome work.
Yeah sorry about that, theres not much i can do about that one at the moment but ill keep trying
"Who is gona clean up and keep licans and vampires secret now?" To be fair in the next movie in the timeline humans end up finding the existence of bouth so... Thats consistent.
yeah and then blood wars pretty much erases everything awakening did, so i think consistency has long exited the scene.
Okay I'm confused. Was Marcus already a hybrid or did he become one because of the werewolf blood he drank?
Marcus is a descendent of corvinus so he already had the potential to become a hybrid and when he was woken up by the werewolf blood leaking into his vault, thats what turned him into a hybrid at the end of the first film.
8:39 who ever said he doesn't interfear?
Marcus could have been made very
Interesting. And after
This many years, centuries, William could have been interesting. Hell, since Lucian was able to kick the silver bullets out and he was unique in his nature, Bringing Lucian back, or showing that he hadn't actually died. The
Crap of incoherence of this story might have been nicely managed by William escaping in the various disasters and coming face to face with Lucian. Tiresome.
I can't find your review of the first Underworld.
How come the only time I get Underworld Blood Wars ads is when I'm watching videos about Underworld?
If its any consolation my review of blood wars will be available this time next week.
I was wondering when, I'm binge watching your Underworld reviews so I was wondering about that. I'm kind of biased with the Underworld movies since I watched them over and over since I was small (yes I'm younger than what I sound like) but I still love them, even though I understand they are pretty stupid.
one to three are passable but I can't say the same for awakening, thats truly unforgivable.
He's an immortal human
Sorry. But Ijust have to ask. How was Marcus even able to kill him?
@@kealebogamolo6685 I hate that too. It was also in LOTR with the elves. They can't die but they can be killed. Huh?
6:22 they showed his perspective
Marcus simply has had a lot more time to become better and understand the potentiality of his powers a lot more clearly.
calling the fan a doubletap has such a morbid beauty in the hilarity
wait could the reason selina be so strong is cuz of victor blood?
I’m not sure I understand the question, do you mean she’s so strong because she was made by victor ? there didn’t really seem to be anything special about victor in terms of strength he was just really good and manipulation.
@@deusdeaconReviews yeah
It feels like Marcus was poorly written. He had no reason to murder Michael and he would have known that William was uncontrollable. In hindsight, this was very forced. On an unrelated note, Alexander's blood had the pure form of the virus so drinking it wouldn't make Selene a hybrid, it simply supercharged the residual Corvinus strain in her blood. She basically became the equivalent of a Vampire elder, equal to Marcus. That's just what I think happened. However, I agree that Selene still shouldn't be able to walk in the sunlight.
vampire elders aren’t immune to sunlight Selene is, Marcus is immune because he is also a hybrid
I was still writing this when you sent your next reply.
why is markus listening to viktor, wouldn't HE be the leader since he is the first, that never made much sense to me honestly
marcus is the first but viktor has the loyalty of soldiers, marcus turned viktor specifically so he could use his army to fight william.
@@deusdeaconReviews i really didn't think of that, i just assumed markus was the lord, but it makes sense
N. H. L-H Victor was awake for a day or two. He did not have time, no.
Regardless, I'm giving you the 'Seriously?' face right now.
you overlooked all the really bad shit this film did with the story and the characters
You know what. I personally love all 4 films. 1 through 3 are great, and I think of 4 as a decent film, with having similarities to the crow salvation, in having more problems then achievements, but over all still a decent movie.
+Rigor Mortis I agree except for the 4 film
I can understand that. Its like I just said tho. Similar to Crow salvation it has a bunch of errors in it, but over all is still an enjoyable film. lol
+deusdeacon so Marcus was a good guy gone bad ?
More like bad guy gone REALLY bad.
I agree with you, I'm just glad that they at least held together so far. Here's to hoping Blood wars holds it's own.
Am i drunk or is the fps low?
I enjoy your reviews immensely, though I have to say that sometimes you seem just a bit too nit-picky.
Passion is too often a missing quality among movie makers, let alone those of us who simply partake of the art.
too bad I cannot watch first review :( Lasso blocker for my country (Croatia) :(
Yeah, same here...
So what happened to the review of the first movie? Just another victim of the blipocalypse?
No it still exist, You just cant see it in your particular region due to a copyright claim on the video that I can’t get rid of
@@deusdeaconReviews Oh, thanks for the info. I had no idea. Stupid UA-cam. Why "protect" a video to such a degree that I literally can't even know that it exists. Sheer lunacy on their part.
Not behd
I love Tony as Markus, but didn't really like anything else about this damn movie.
Great work!
Don't get me wrong, Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman are very attractive people but that sex scene always made me feel really uncomfortable.
arghhhhh! your Underworld 1 review has been blocked. you should upload your videos to www.archive.org where it is free to upload unlimited files. it alsomcomes with a rss feed.
fungal infection good one
Pmsl crutch rot!!!!
i do realise that you are a critic and its your job to review a film but you really are nit picking in alot of them especially this one , continuity errors aside you really do put a downer on what i consider to be a decent movie.
you say nit picking, I say thing that should be mentioned, You like the film more then I do so you may be more willing to give things a pass.
I hate the Underworld series a lot. They're all so, very very bad in my opinion.
Unfortunately.. I've seen too many of them to stop now.
Couldn't William also become a hybrid and regain some of his intelligence? In fact, why didn't Marcus make him a hybrid the moment he freed him? He had more than enough time.
You want to know the reason? Plot convince, plain and simple
