  • With the new Tom Cruise Mummy movie hitting theaters, we figured it was finally time to go back to the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies and look for sins. So that's what we did! And there were A LOT!
May is Mental Health Month, and even though it's June now, it's still a subject that means a lot to us here at CinemaSins. Yes, it's June now technically, but we are still honoring Mental Health Month for a bit longer.
In fact, we’re partnering with Mental Health America (MHA) to not only to raise awareness of mental health issues - but also to raise a little money, too. We’ve got a brand-new Cinema Sins t-shirt in the shop, and all of the profits from the sale of the shirt will be donated to our friends at MHA.
Click here to check out or purchase the shirt: www.districtlin...
Thursday: A movie not nearly as much fun as this one.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

Well, the movie is all kinds of sinful... but it doesn't stop me from loving it anyway. Same with Returns and the 1st Scorpion King for that matter. I thought the whole cast pretty much killed it, Rachael Weisz, John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, and Oded Fehr especially.

@@peeko_luxx2873 ChatGPT: No, that statement is not accurate. The dream demons in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series were not created using CGI. The original films primarily relied on practical effects, makeup, and prosthetics to bring Freddy Krueger and his nightmarish world to life.
The dream demons, which are entities referenced in the mythology of the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series, were typically depicted through practical effects, such as puppetry or animatronics, if they were shown on screen at all. CGI was not commonly used for special effects in horror films during the 1980s and early 1990s when the original "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies were released.
While CGI may have been employed in later adaptations or iterations of the franchise, such as remakes or reboots produced after the widespread adoption of CGI in filmmaking, it was not used for the dream demons in the original films.

"Some American guy is second in command." The entire purpose of the French Foreign Legion is to recruit and field soldiers who are not French. Given O'Connell's age (and the fact his backstory is not fleshed out) along with the medal bar on his chest, it would be imagined that he joined in early WWI, served with distinction, and by 1923 had earned the rank of Captain (the rank bars on his sleeves). This appears to be roughly a regiment sized unit (300-500 men), which is comparatively small to the fact that the French Foreign Legion was about 40,000 strong at this point in history. So, an American making the rank of Captain and being second in command of a relatively small unit, consisting of primarily foreign nationality soldiers is entirely accurate.
The only unrealistic thing here is that the closest French Foreign Legion units in 1923 were in Algeria and Syria.

@@skeliton11211 Truly... One of the absolutely minute details is the way they load the M1886 Lebel rifles. They hold 8 rounds in the tubular magazine but doctrine was to load single shots on the ramp until it was necessary to fire 8 rounds quickly (ie, exactly how they were doing slow "by command" fire early in the charge and switch to rapid fire as the cavalry gets close). That's a detail even many firearms historians would excuse if excluded, but they got it right.

There enough great lines in this movie to warrant a lot of reversed points. Also that scene with Bennie flashing any and every religious symbol he can find is a fantastic character defining moment. He's not wearing them because he's religious or largely superstitious. Its not like he thought he'd wear these just in case he encountered some demigod. Its just demonstrating that he's a man with no real loyalty or faith, with no dignity or qualms with doing whatever it takes to save himself in the end.

Weirdly enough, I rather liked Benni (maybe because I have a soft spot for the actor), even his attitude to religion. Maybe because it is classic religious attitude: you pray and sacrifice to gods, and they protect you, or at least not squash you. You neglect them or make the mistake of comparing your beautiful daughter with the Queen Bee deity, and suddenly what's left of your city is on the bottom of the ocean.

And quite frankly we should have had a sin for Benni translating something as 'forever' and Evie correcting him with 'for all eternity, idiot'. I mean that is literally the same thing so she's definitely being a dick to Benni's translation skills right there.

At the beginning he said “Imhotep was a cool dude!” Imhotep was a ruthless slaver, brutal tyrant king, raper of women… George Washington and Thomas Jefferson gave more to humanity than possibly anyone else in the history of the world, but the pieces of shit at CS would completely ignore all of their accomplishments and focus on the fact that they owned slaves… But this dude gets to be a cool dude because he built pyramids with a million slaves?

9:40 I gotta disagree about Benny. He didn't have all those religious symbols just in case his life is threatened by an otherworldly being who may be persuaded by one of those religions; he doesn't know which (if any) deities really exist and which religion's afterlife is real, so he tries to cover his ass by subscribing to all religions in the hopes that he won't be sent to that religion's concept of hell when he dies. He starts reciting various prayers and invocations as Imhotep walks towards him desperately hoping that at least ONE of those prayers can ward off what he clearly assumes to be a demon.

Know how they could have stopped Imhotep from getting out? Have the Medjai keep the key with them at all times. Even if someone found Imhotep's tomb and the book of life and dead, they couldn't bring Imhotep back to life since the incantation was inside the book.

What's funny is after the opening battle they could have just frisked Rick for the key and map. They assume the desert will kill him but those artifacts would be just laying on the ground somewhere?

Why they even put a curse on him him is stupid knowing there is a chance someone could wake him up.

Don't care what anyone, not even this video, says, this film is one of the best damn movies i've ever seen, and I will continue to love this and it's sequel (except the non-existent third film, we don't mention it).

The Mummy Returns is at least as good as the first one. If you mean the third one then I agree.

No, the second one sucked! EVERYONE became a cliche badass hero, the little kid was extremely annoying and cliche, it riped-off scenes from the first(the giant Imhotep face), it has some extremely dumb scenes(the rocket baloon), etc. It was awful!

You forgot to remove sins for every good part. The part where Evie steps over her punched brother, "You're on the wrong side of the RIIIVERRRR", the part where Brendan screams at the mummy, and the part where he shows the cat to Imotep. This movie is campy and awesome.

Also, my wife's (who is a librarian)favorite part: Evie drunkenly complaining about Rick being so masculine and manly and looking down on her for what she does. Rick then asks: And what is that? Evie drunkenly replies: "I.... am a Librarian! And I am going to kiss you.... *falls over and passes out in Rick's lap*"

Can someone explain the "wrong side of the river" to me? I never could get it - like, they crawled out of the same river, and they are actually shown being able to yell over it, so we know how narrow the river is - so what does the side matter?? Can't the Americans just cross it then and there?? Am I overanalysing it??
