I'm portuguese so I'm used to spanish culture. This is flamenco and it really is powerfull. I'm in love with the song and performance.
Aún sigo escuchando Saudade!
@@DanielLopez-zt4ig Y yo
Espanha merece ganhar este ano!
It's the problem with english speakers, they all want song in English. Thank God some of the countries have dignity and keep their culture.
This is a lullaby. It tells the story of a grandmother who dies and tells the baby that she wants to be buried in the moon to take care of the child. It has a lot of elements of Lorca's poetry
And eaea is what a mother or father say to the baby while rocking them.
It's a very poetic song and it's based on El Romancero Gitano by Lorca. The moon was a powerful symbol on his poetry
Sounds more like a nightmare than a lullaby, if my mother sang me such lullabies as a child i would have never slept
@@qffaffafaffrafrfrafif u r not from spain u wont understand.
@@nereaaguilar4382 I'm Spanish and I agree with that comment. It sounds "uneasy", not a lullaby to sleep a baby with
@@qffaffafaffrafrfraf The song talks about a lullaby, it's not a lullaby itself, it's a "buleria" a type of flamenco song, with electronic touches, Lordy did seem like a nightmare and they won Eurovision.. .
Blanca's vocal control is absolutely astonishing. Even if you are not familiar with the scale she's using, can you tell how precise she is? I find her stunning. And I also love the lyrics. "My child, when I die, bury me on the moon, and every night I will watch over you."
Best wishes! Happy Eurovision!
I don’t think this is a song to add to our playlists or listen to very often, I think it’s more of a song that has to be performed, a piece of art (visually and vocally). I can see Blanca Paloma creating a huge impact in the Eurovision stage
Agree, Eaea got low streams on spotify but she still won 🕊
Indeed, but actually I have lost count of how many times I have listened to this song.
Pues yo la escucho todos los días
And you are right
@@andystan2743 she got low streams because her song was released on spotify 2 weeks after the rest of benidorm fest songs
Just to let you know: Spaniard's folk music (flamenco) use the mixolydia scale, ninth and thirteen flat. That's the way flamenco sounds usually, what means 'arabian sound' for foreigners. And of course arab music has a lot in common with our flamenco, more than other types of music, but still they are different in too many ways. The vibrato with quarter tones and other voice techniques used by flamenco singers are often used only in that particular way by those singers. That's why it sounds so unique.
'Ea ea' is the tender sound spaniards do to their childs to make them sleep. You know, when cradling a child into your own arms. So basically this song is just a lullaby.
It’s not the Mixolydian scale but the Phrygian or mode of E, sometimes with the sharp third (G#).
I must say that I really loved Spain's entry this year, it was one of my absolute favorites and I'm sorry the voters didn't appreciate it enough. I know nothing really about Spain's folk music so thank you for this interesting comment! Part of my family is from North Africa and I couldn't help but notice the strong similarities with some of our North African folk music :) (But of course as you said, each with their own unique differences). Maybe that's part of the reason why Eaea appeals to me so much.
this is pure art. I've never seen or heard anything like this before and I'm so excited for Spain's performance in May!!

In my country and many others, this music is Art. We don't listen this music in spotify, we go to opera house or theaters. Flamenco and its sub genres song are not built as a normal song. with a bridge and that kind of things. Passion is from the beginning and the singers have to be quiet good. They sing from the heart and soul. This is an statement made by Spain with their huge cultural and ethnic background. I hope european audiences could appreciate this presentation as for us spanish speaking people this is a masterpiece.
Yo soy Polaco. 🇵🇱♥️🇪🇸
She's my absolute winner so far and I don't see that changing any time soon. One of my faves in Eurovision history.
Gracias desde España!! 😍😍👏👏👏
Jajaja
When I first heard the song I also wasn't a fan of it, but when I saw that performance she just took me in and I cannot stop listening to the song now🤩....go Spain!!🇪🇸🇪🇸
The first time I listened I thought "meh" but after 2 or 3 listens (together WITH the performance!!) I thought "WOW!!"!! The performance version takes you on a journey in kind of a trance!! Doce points from this Dutch guy!!
That’s what actually happens with Flamenco songs. No Flamenco singers make a good living selling records. Flamenco is not commercial at all. They make a good living singing it live in the “Tablaos”
Only people with good taste can apreciate this. Foreigners tourists only like comercial songs with absurds lyrics in Spanglish, but the people Who love our country be able to like This song.
@@carmenmora5348 Not all foreigners. I´m sure Japanese would appreciate it ;)
It's a complicated song and an astounding performance. Hopefully, it'll get some traction during these months, but who knows. It's nice to see that Spain took a risk this year. There's always a lot of generic pop, so sending an electronic piece of flamenco may stand out. And if it doesn't, at least it represents and portrays part of the culture and the history of Spain.
For some reason, it can't be measured with the standards of today. But it's more like experience.
Spain's performance is pure art turned into music. Totally different from what was offered last year, but it contains vocal perfection, personality and an authentic flavor of Spain. No one else could bring something like that to Eurovision.
What a treat to my ears this is! I think it is a bold choice from Spain to send such a high quality performance that might perhaps not resonate with the televote so much. Well done Blanca, definitely in my top 3.
It's a good song honestly, in a live performance she will kill it . Little afraid how much the message will be received from the public , but so far in my top 5 for sure . Good luck to Spain ❤️🇦🇱🇪🇸
I agree with you. It's very powerful but I am not sure the public will understand the message of the song.
@@HonestVocalCoach The song speaks of loss. A mother wants herself to be buried in the. moon, so she can see his son everyday from above, and care for him. That's a "to do" from now to the contest. They have to work hard to make this song is understand by people out of Spain. I dont't like flamenco, but i do like this song.
*understood🙃
@HonestVocalCoach It a song about maternity and love. It is about a mother asking God to set her presence in the moon so she can protect her child with her light. The red circle is the singer's shawl which is an iconic piece of cloathing in Spain. The song and the staging is very feminine in its nature and is amazing
@@HonestVocalCoach They won't, trust me.
So powerful and it represents the country well
Spain for the win!
Her grandmother passed away recently and she was also a singer too and encouraged Blanca to be a singer. It is supposed to be a lullaby from like a parent to a child or a grandparent to a child.
"My dear child, when I die, I will be interred in the moon, so I can keep watch over you."
I can't stop listning to it! It has so much power, passion. Absolutely Fire!
I absolutely love this song and performance
Not everybody is capable of understanding how flamenco music works, but I'm sure everybody is able to appreciate a piece of artwork such as this.
This song is very Spanish and the lyrics are a lullaby to sing to children. "Blanca paloma" sings flamenco style using the melismas very well and the electronic rhythm in the background adds fusion. It is a risky bet for Eurovision but it was time for Spain to make its culture known and move away from the pop and commercial sound. In Spain most of the people are very proud of this song and the truth is that we don't give a damn if they like it or not and if they win Eurovision or not. We are satisfied.
Exactly! finally a meaningful song with so many meanings and universal feelings and Spanish folklore and culture, not just a mere pop hit...those are for discos ;-)
I, as Spanish, agree with the idea of spreading spanish culture. I'm not passionate of overall flamenco, but this song is both strong and emotive. Nevertheless, how much of our culture, which is not flamenco, remains hidden even to nationals? This is really sad
Its not a song for the radio or your Spotify. Its a performance to live an experience like if you were in a spanish theatre.
Hello Georgina, first of all I wish you the best for your operation. Secondly, I wanted to tell you that your analysis it is imprecise.I know that it is difficult to talk about a musical style that is unknown but it is that in your analysis I have not seen that you spoke of the vocal performance of Blanca Paloma. I missed hearing you say that she sings with a head voice and a ches t voice.the amount of time she already find herself singing in forte so hard to do.the moments in which his voice is in fifth octave 25. How difficult it is to sing live with that level of tuning.the amount of melismas vibratos and belting. And oh my goodness, that final flip with the spectacular belting. Spectacular vocal performance and in terms of acting I can only say that you feel mesmerized. Regards 🤗
BRAVO! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I'm from Spain and I loved your reaction. You may not like the song but you searched information of it and you were very respectful all the time. Thanks for your reaction!!
Exacto👏👏👏👏👏👏😍😍😍
Exactly. Besides English people don't like Spain 🇪🇦🇪🇦 and that's clear in the video of this "vocal coach" 😒😒😒
Even if I kind of agree it's not a song I'd listen in a daily basis, the performance is STUNNING!
I can't get enough of this entry. Maybe I am lucky that despite living in Australia, my mother exposed me to world music because I don't need a verse chorus verse chorus structure to enjoy a song. This is a stunning working of art and her vocals are astounding.
Gracias ❤thank you
I completely agree, I think it helps if you're already very familiar with music from lots of different cultures. I've grown up with folk music that doesn't really use the verse-chorus-verse structure so it doesn't bother me, but I can understand how it might make the song less catchy for those who are expecting that structure to sing along to.
You're quite right that it's not a catchy song on the first listen. For me it is the most exciting song of all and I have goosebumps from the beginning to the end. I wish all countries would make their entries more traditional. But what I really like about the Spanish entry is the electronic sound in the background, which makes it seem "traditionally modern", which adds to the excitement. It won't win, unfortunately, but it should in my opinion ...please listen to it more often. I think it gets better and better the more you listen to it. Greetings from Germany and thank you for your great reactions.
It may flop or come out on top. Juries are likely to love it but the televote reamains a mistery. It will depend on a lot of factors (other released songs etc) but if people connected with Salvador back in 2017 (he won the televote) they might as well do so with Blanca. I'm just happy we got another quality act from Spain for a second year in a row!🥰
I for sure think that this is more of a jury song although televote will likely appreciate it too. I say top10 for juries and top12 for televote depending. I'm unsure whether she will finish top10 or top15 tho. I don't think this is will get a top5 finish but it'll be up there!
Thanks for being so honest! I love the entry but I recognize not everyone is going to love it. Love from Spain and I hope Europe will value this magnificent performance.
I think that this performance could be a big jury winner, it is pure art and juries will love it. It's a risky choice in term of televote. But it will do really well anyway in May !
Indeed. Also the public favourites so far don't seem the kind that do well with the jury vote, so more chances for Blanca to be a top five.
I understand you need to do this for copyright purposes but this is not a song to be stopped multiple times. It's an immersive experience that needs to be enjoyed from 0 to 3:00
I think there is something curious about this. It is my favorite song and performance so far, but not the type of song I would listen to on Spotify. This is something to listen to while watching the performance at the same time. The studio version without the acting, does not have the same impact. But I repeat, still my favorite entry so far.
Magical,Hipnotic and AMAZING!✨
Eurovision songs tend to be predicable in an attempt to be catchy and memorable. This song is melodically challenging and intricate, with a contemporary twist in the production. I get why you wouldn't click at first listen. The rhythm is Bulerías (12 beats), instead of the normal 4/4 pop song rhythm. However, this is exactly why this song should win. Blanca is an incredible performer and her staging choices are powerful and elegant.
Honestly? I thought similarly to you at the start but now I can't get enough of it. My Spanish is very rudimentary at best but I picked up some melancholy from it and now that you mention it might be dealing with grief it actually makes sense. I think it's a piece of art. I also think she's a very talented singer. I also thought her vocals were bit off but now that you mentioned the quarter notes she might not be off at all and it's part of the song. Hm. Interesting, thanks for letting me know, I wasn't aware
The song is a lullaby, based in a poem of Federico García Lorca, one of the best spanish poets. And it has something like a ritual about female ancestors. In Spain ea ea is a sound that mothers sing to their childs to calm them when they are crying and don't want to sleep
A piece of art 🇪🇸
I hope your heart operation goes well. Thank for your reaction.
It's okay not to have the song on your mind. EaEa isn't radiofriendly, it aims to hypnotice people. The moment you recognize vocals, stage, the full package as "art", that's a win,not necesarily an ESC win but a global win because people will get to hear what exists only in Spain, and that's something ESC is good for ^^
That's precisely the nutshell and the merit of this song.
Gracias x tu teabako
Translating "Ea, Ea" directly into Englis is difficul indeed since these are just the sounds that a spanish mum would do to apace a baby. Is the base of all spanish lulabys wich is really what the song is. A very short, very intense expression of a mother's love that asks to be buried in the moon so she can take of her babby even after she is dead. As another comment remarks this has remarcable elements from Federico Garcia Lorca's poetry.
Thanks for your video. Your thoughts are interesting to explore. I compare music to art and movies. Sometimes I see a movie so good that I don't want to watch it again, because the experience was so unique and powerful. And sometimes the same thought pattern applies to music as well. Just one art experience evokes great emotions and leaves a strong feeling of passion. Greetings from Finland and it's wonderful that there is music in the world.
This song is not fast/canned music.... it's a piece of art and not everyone understands and sees the value on this. Some people just prefer sames rhythms and samples with the same lyrics again and again.... that kind of empty songs that easily get sticky in the brain but doesn't bring anything valuable but "having fun for a moment".
Don't know if somebody has told this, but about the staging, the red fringes represent the ones from her grandmother's typical dress, and the "corridor" and central circle represent a utherus. The song is a flamenco lullaby. I'm not a huge fan of flamenco music, BUT I've been listening to the Spanish songs from.their national final since they were released, and the only one that got stuck in my head from the very beginning was this. She was not a favourite from the start, but I guessed (and I was right) that she would deliver a great vocal performance (she competed in the Spanish NF previous year as well). And I think that was why she won after all, 'cause the favourite to win before the live shows was a mess singing live
OMG, YEAHHH, I WAS WAITING FOR THIS REACTIONNN THANK YOIUUUU. APPART FROM THAT, I HOPE YOU MY BEST WISHES FOR YOU. 😇😇
On first listen, I was confused as well if I hated the song or absolutely loved it. Now it's haunting my mind and I hear the chanting and words subconsciously so it's definitely a grower. It's also not the usual spanish dialect or something so it took me some time to understand some of the words with my limited spanish. It's definitely a very niche and avant garde performance piece.
andalusian dialect. Flamenco is the folklore music from southern Spain
As already has been said the "ea ea ea..." is usually used here in Spain, to calm or soothe a baby when is crying. This song is the one that her own grandmother (Paloma's) sang her when she was a child, so it's also a tribute to her grandma. The moon is a very important device because is the place where she wants to be buried so that she can protect her child from the sky, when death comes for her....and there are other many touching elements in this lullaby...the best for me, apart from transmitting Spanish folk and culture, is that all their feelings are UNIVERSAL; the love of a mother, the love for a child, your family (grandmother), the fear of loss, life versus death...and so forth...beautiful!
You should see flamenco videos: Camaron de la Isla, La niña de la Puebla....
Blanca Paloma's voice and live performance is amazing. It is pure art. It is normal that many people like more commercial songs, but songs like this must be valued. It's a song with meaning, artistic lyrics and the music is modern flamenco. Your reaction seemed commercial and not professional.
Her vocals are outstanding, Blanca not only knows how to sing, she also conveys de message.
Idk if all people will get this, but as sometimes Europe get slavix entries, I'm sure they'll get this spanish entry too (at least some people)
I'm looking forward to juries cause I believe they will support her very much
Czechia next Georgina? 👀🇨🇿
It's hypnotic.
I looooove this song and performance. The outfits kinda remind me of Turkeys entry in 2003. They also won that year!
Your reaction to Slow mo by Chanel last year was similar in the sense it wasn't one of your favourites. It is a good signal?
Btw, no deads in the lyrics of the song. Too fast to do a fair reaction. Pity!!! You didn't understand anything.
Other vocals coaches said her singing is flawless.
Incredible performance, song and voice!💚
I love this so much
I will vote from Poland for this song.
It's curious that the people who seem to be getting this song the least are British people. Perhaps it's the lack of a folk music tradition in England compared to Southern or Eastern European countries that makes it more difficult to understand this kind of song?
There is folk music in the UK if you look for it, but it is mostly obscured by the ever present modern commercial disco/pop world.
Or because it's a terrible song
@@Sabrinajaine Or because it's not in your language, English, and since you don't understand it or have a fucking idea what the song is about or its musical genre, you don't even bother to give it a try.
Love this song!!! Pure art :)
This song is a new concept of music. It goes beyond the standard melodies that we are used to.
It is amazing vocals, poetry, grief, emotion, a performance more than a song.
It is a baby sheltered by his mother, it is an uterus that brings life to the world, itbus the love of a mother to her son even after her own life, it is the poetry and love of a country for his traditions in a modern updating.
I understand some people might to be prepared for such a masterpiece of music. The ones who broke the rules where not allways understood .
If she doesnt win this year, Eurovison will be considered hereafter just one more irrelevant song contest.
This song is flamenco, which is an art form. It’s not a mainstream pop(ular) song with predictable beats. But an artistic way to show feelings in a different way…
Sadly she hardly gave an academic opinion as she is known for in her other videos… specially when this song hardly uses any instruments and it’s almost sang acapella.
Something unique that is not often seen in Eurovision….
If people see this song uniquely with pop music lenses; they won’t be able to understand and appreciate it. It is a different genre with its own rules…
It feels very Andalucian to me, a different approach to just singing, storeytelling by song. It's great to have this variety and I hope it does well.
It is not a sad song. It is a lullaby. The “Ya eaea” is the sound Spanish mothers (or anyone) will use to try to get babies asleep or to calm them down. The reference to death is actually a reference to unconditional love. The mother is saying to her baby that when she dies she wants to be buried in the moon to see her child from there (all nights but one, New Moon). When she refers to the tears of the Nile is a reference to a sleepless night because the baby is crying. So, not a sad song, but a passionate and beautiful lullaby about unconditional love from a mother to their children :)
Definitely in the style of flamenco. Flamenco music is always passionate. I understand if one is not accustomed to the style, it could seem a bit much. I fell in love with flamenco music when i would see people perform on the streets or in tiny cafes in Spain. Both the physical and vocal expressions would send chills throughout my body. This is an extremely powerful song that is performed extremely well. Spain is HIGH on my list this year for Eurovision.
Its a spanish lullabye & its a flamenco genre called buleria..canto. its a very typical spanish buleria tone & shes not off key, its an ethnic song.
I think because you were reacting live you had to pause and split up the performance rather than watching the performance in one viewing. At least for me, this would have taken away the performance's trance-like hold over me!
It’s not a grief song… It’s a lullaby!
I think this represents Spain more than last year, but as there were lyrics in English in “Slo-mo” the message was much more understood 🥲 I hope people do some research about the song prior to the finals
It wasn’t because of the few English words SloMo was so popular, it was the song and performance.
Though the lyrics wasn’t all that, but I absolutely loved it, my favourite last year, and it’s still on my playlist ❤️
lol, what "message" did slomo have?
This is what Eurovision should be about in my opinion. Showing off traditional music and culture of our countries. Magnificent performance.
is flamenco darling not a radio friendly song is art
She is unable to understand that
I also think that performance is SUPERB, but personally I don't like the song, but her voice is definitely out of this world, and also I'm super glad that Spain finally sent something that isn't usual booty shaking song, so big luck to Spain! I'm sure you will do well! I hope so at least.
Honest: Its a lullaby. Her grandmother sang to her when she was a babie, we say “ea ea” when you try to sleep to your babie… there is no message of death or Nothing like this, its not a sad song, actually its a very emotional song But not sad
Spain!!! Omghsss 🇪🇦💃 love it
This song is a “nana”, a cot song (llullaby) to help a baby fall sleep. "Ea,ea” is a phrase used by a mother to soothe a baby in her arms, particularly if he/she is crying. These type of songs have a very long and significant tradition in Spanish literature, particulary poetry. The song is sang in the flamenco style of singing. This is the first time I listen to her and I was taken aback by her poweful voice and impeccable vocal acrobatics. I understand how this style might not appeal to listeners accustomed to pop music, but for me, this is 10 out of 10. So much better than last year’s Chanel(and that was a total hit, but it was in a styl of music called reggetton, originally south american and very popular in Spain). This , on the other hand, is a masterpiece. I am not sure people will understand what a outstanding singer she is and the cultural significance of the song. She made me cry. This is a great representation of spanish culture, its mixed and complex heritage and Iam glad they are showcasing it. But this is art, not entertaining pop.
I really wish you the best and blessings for you in your operation! Thank you for these awsome videos. Greetings from Spain!
The song of Blanca Paloma is arte ❤
I absolutely love the song, the vibe, the performance. It’s just clicks with me. 🔴🟡
EAEA is a lullaby for a baby. Even the title, is what mother say to babies when they have them in their arms and want them to stop crying, like "Ea Ea, don't cry anymore". I think the most similar equivalent world would be "Hush" from "Hush little baby"
Moon famous poetic Lorca writer symbolism of depth and eternal and inconditional love , bury at the Moon to look after him forever from there to be able to watch him and protect him. Other hand the Sun represented by her son eyes, symbol of Life , proud and Joy for his mother. Pure Poetic lírics. ❤️
Not many Eurovision fans familiar with Flamenco. A shame as it's one of the most unique styles of European music.
It is a song that reaches your soul 🕊️
This song is dedicated to her late grandma. The lyrics make much more sense when you know that
I can definitely appreciate this song and that voice as well. It's very powerful. I didn't realize it was about grief because it sounded more like powerful war song XD haha I am not sure why.
Love that you call it a war cry because that is how Lorca poetry depicts Love, as internal war, the total oblivion of everything but the Loved one. Flamenco and southern Spain Folk is full of refereces to this "fiery love". Pitty that is so difficult to translate directly into other languages
She is amazing you will be get use to.She is top 5 finish for sure.
Spain came in prepared to win Eurovision Song Contest
Spain really deserves to win Eurovision Song Contest this year.
No, it won't finish top 5. At best it will end up 10-15 but I would predict 17-18.

Great reaction ❤❤. Winner alert 😍🕊️🫣
"Ea ea, ya, ea ea" es una expresión utilizada por las madres para calmar a los bebés cuando lloran. La canción es una nana y no hay tristeza, habla del amor entre madre e hijo y el deseo de la madre de ser enterrada en la luna para ver desde allí a su niño dormir, todas las noches, menos una (luna nueva)
The lyrics is not about the loss of a child, it is a lullabay, a mother who takes care of her baby. It is not sad. The mother is a shelter for her child, but not in a sad way. It is only love, the love that every mother feels. The red top is a heart, the outfit is like a warrior, the red circle is the typical fringes in flamenco dresses, and the white circle is the moon. The whole perfomance is a metaphore of maternity and ancestors of Blanca Paloma. The song is dedicated to her grandmother.
Really amazing 😊
It was announced a few days ago that they are going to do a revamp for inexperienced foreign ears. Greetings ✌🏼🕊️
You are adorable and love to see your true reaction. I agree its not a tune to play on one’s playlist but passion,, authenticity and and staging are memorable . Greetings from Spain.
To me, her vocal chops are superlative, my brain is going overtime to resolve the chords and tonality, the Flamenco / kind of Arabic flair of this make this a beautiful piece of art. Brava!
12 points à nos voisins et amis espagnols. Bravo à Paloma, c’est magnifique 😃👍
I think the advantage of Spain this year is that Blanca has one of the most powerfull voice un the competition.
The performance and passion can play It well This year, because some other countries have so quetionable representation 😖😖😖
This may be off topic but I want to wish you all the best with your upcoming procedure. I was very sorry to hear about your loss of a family member a while ago & did not want to let this opportunity go by without expressing my admiration for you & your work. Be well !!
This is a great version of the song!!! I love it. Points for holding strong to vocal tradition, massive points for the incredible performance. No it's not the sort of song you'll bop along to on the radio, but it's the sort of song that reinforces everything Eurovision is about and reminds us of all the variation and diversity it represents.
