The white in this song is related to the idea of being reborn, purified by the inner fire that helped overcome fears, doubts, and anguishes that terrorized and held back the individual (which is what the dancers represent, expressing more of what is said than the music itself). It is this flame that burns within us, this desire, that can lead us from darkness to light, overcoming the pain that life sometimes brings. At its core, this is a song that plays with inner transformation and the hope for new days. That’s why the ghosts waver, following the final crescendo, and vanish with the scream. Life then continues in harmony, and iolanda’s face appears illuminated, in contrast to the beginning. The inner conflicts are thus represented not only by the dancers but also by the alternation between darkness and light (white and black), yet from the beginning, the light is destined to prevail.
This is not just a song. It is a statement. Every detail means something. Even the brightness at the end, when she goes for the high note. Read the coments, i'm sure my portuguese mates already tried to explain it!
Yeah, I never doubted that, even though I did not understand the idea behind it at first. The only comment in that regard was about that one moment when I said that in my opinion the lights were used incorrectly.
iolanda tells us about her journey in search of her light, dealing with her fears. her emotions, her demons... A story of overcoming and acceptance. Perhaps now the concept will be shed light on for you. Grito means Scream
⚘I also do appreciate listening to the:english version as well as the piano's cover or the spanish and german versions : many congratulations to Iolanda COSTA for her GRITO's poem which is very interesting with different meanings ! ⚘
Thank you for your lovely comment The song is about mental struggles and fighting to overcome them on you own - Self empowerment. I get that is not for everyone and it might be thought to get the attention on the televote. She is on the 2nd half of the 1st semi final what is a difficult one. But if she gets to the Final I believe that she will get the love and attention of the juries. Explaining the choreography, the dancers are/represent the struggles and her demons, hence they have their faces covered, and at the end she makes them disappear with her scream overcoming the struggle. Grito = scream . The white is to represent the flames, the pure white light the that emanates from the soft candle flames and her rebirth after conquering and overcoming all that upset her. Love from a Portugal
Just Portugal 🇵🇹 again in there best! Glad to have Portugal in Eurovision. Always they know how to bring art to the show. I love it. Dark horse of this year. Jury and public will love it. So diferent of another countries. My winner this year.
You are the only reactor that cuts during the amazing scream she does, title of the song… unfortunately you dont have the lyrics… Thanks for your reaction 😉
Hi! Thanks for watching the video! If that is any of any help, don't worry, the evaluation was not affected by the timing of the pause. I simply wanted to point out what I was talking about immediately. That is why I don't say anything about the song not having a culmination or the "wow" moment - because I know the song had it. And yes, this is the point of the way I am doing these - the way most people will be watching Eurovision - without prior knowledge of the songs.
The 'problem' with this song is that there are several layers to it. Too many things to focus on. Some people initially focus on the choreography and zone out from the song, others focus on the stage and zone out from the melody, etc, etc. Every time I watch this masterpiece, I discover something new. A timeless journey that all quality art provides. But at the same time, I do understand that we live in a fast food thought society (aka shallow), which is why I don't see it doing very well at EV. To each, it's its own. Light will always overcome Death. No pun intended :)
Sorry, I randomly got inspired by that last line. :D It is false to believe Light overcoming Darkness and Life overcoming Death would be a good thing. All these opposites are part of the natural cycle. Without anything bad, you would either lose sight of good being actually good (because everything would be the same level of good) or you would start considering good things to be bad (because they would be the worst things possible). Similarly, Life overcoming Death, would only bring torture and suffering. Imagine getting shot and being unable to die. Feeling the pain of skin starting to rot and being unable to die. Sometimes the opposite of what you like is necessary to show you that you like what you like, other times - to show that maybe you don't hate this opposite as much as you think.
The bright is because the scream is liberator. You like more or less, but for me you did not understand the song. The dancers represent her’s demons and they disappear after the scream ( grito)
Hi! Yes, as I mentioned during the song, I do not speak Portuguese, therefore I did not understand the lyrics at the time of recording the video. With the lyrics known, this does make more sense. And that's why I specified that it's not the brightness itself that is the problem, more so the way this was done. The problem was specifically the lights pointing pretty much at the camera at that moment.
Hi! There are things in that song I had no clue when first reacting to it (specifically lyrics and therefore a big chunk of meaning behind the act) and I specified that at the start of the video. Probably will happen to a lot, if not most people.

Thanks for the explanation! Then the dancers DO make sense. :)
Pure Class.

It's ok! Thank you so much for your honesty. I believe there's room for improvement until she steps on the bigger stage!
Greetings from Portugal!
