The thing about that though is that one Dampe reset is a mere blip in the face of the whole run. ZFG is far and away the best player of the game having done thousands of runs and even he has like 7 minutes of potential time save throughout the run. It's reasonable to get 4th or 5th try Dampe and still have a perfectly viable run. Meanwhile Any% is so optimized by this point that one instance of failed RNG is an instant WR fail

You can hear the faint sound of agony of all the 100% runs that died because of Dampé's heart piece in the background
That's pretty different as it's not a glitch requiring setup and execution.

the main difference between Dampe and this is that Dampe's accuracy is a blip compared to this glitch. You can fail Dampe 5 or so times and still be on a WR pace; meanwhile, any% is a category so refined and optimized that one failed RNG run invalidates the entire run. It's go Big or Go Home, not "okay, I messed this up, I might be able to save the time later."
Dampe has worse accuracy, yes, but the lost time can potentially be made up. A lost time on this run means a instant loss of WR potential.
@@bramble553 There was plenty of time save when the glitch was discovered and when it was used in that way. To say a new route is optimized is not true. You could be negative 30 up to this point and still be on pace with wr when this was found. Even wr has time to save.Sure it would sucked if it stayed but it didnt. I dont like your mentality of any small thing makes wr impossible like there a record out there that perfect.

For those of you who don't know, this was Apollo's favorite game to speedrun despite his inhibiting Carpal Tunnel. He recorded himself attaining an 18:09 on his alternate channel.

Any% Runners: "Oh no boo hoo I have to wait 7 minutes for this 20% chance to get a decent run"
Hundo runners having to wait for a 10% chance Dampe HP almost 2 hours into the run: "how heartbreaking"
You really can't compare the two since one is a regular and unskippable part of the game and one is a glitch requiring setup and execution.
@@Iliek it's pretty compareble since one is an essential part of the run with a small chance of success depending on rng and the other one is an essential part of the run with a small chance of success depending on rng
When you're that far into a run, you either finish it anyway, or start over. There's still a lot of stuff left to go, so you might somehow make up for the lost time and get a good run in spite of getting Dampe'd.
The nut glitch, however, is so early that you're not losing a lot of progress, which logically means restarting immediately. Why bother continuing when you can just restart and try again, right?
@@percher4824 Actually, no. Any Dampe run past 4 or 5 is pretty much a dead run most of the time nowadays. You've got less than a 40% chance of getting a passable Dampe, and a 1/15 (6% I believe) chance of getting a first try Dampe.
The current world record has first try Dampe and many attempts either die directly to Dampe or die because the runner couldnt save enough time to make up for a mediocre or bad Dampe.

watching long intros is the bane of other games as well. mario sunshine runners finally did away with it i believe and i think you're allowed to just load into a save that skips it entirely

There are frequent arguments about changing the timing method but for now we do have to watch the whole thing

@@JumperAce Well there was a poll last year about allowing the runs to start on a race file, but the majority voted against it, partly because it also skipped the airstrip gameplay. Now the discussion is about other timing methods that don’t skip the airstrip

If I see any speedrunner and think a clip is going to be played, that's what I do. I'd rather not hear the inevitable cussing and rate (failing run) or sometimes very loud yells of excitement.

The 20% chance isn't even the biggest problem. It also needs to drop on a specific spot which is also a low chance or else the glitch wont work.
Based on the runs I've watched back then it was definitly way above 90% that it failed and lead to a reset.

The short video is alright, I prefer the longer ones. Your channel is my favorite type. Chill, well thought out, organized, informative and entertaining. It's the kind that I like to put on and just chill. Speedrunning history is a perfect subject for that format. I can't stand vids where the person is rushing and even cuts out the breaths between sentences. It's like you never get a chance to register the information and instead of following along you are just sitting there listening to someone talk non-stop, before you know it, you realize you just heard a guy say a 5 minute run on sentence but you didn't listen and can't recall a thing he said. I generally exit out of those and continue surfing.
