Pat's just been living his best life since the mid 80's...
He is awesome. My second favorite guitarist from that era, behind only Dave Navarro.
Hey, and late 70's. Going to high school, legit having a "Fruit Eating" class where him and Darby legit just went to the grocery store, both with heads full of LSD, and ate fruit. That's fuckin' LIVIN
And his been speaking his truth since like, forever. No wonder he's always got that smear on his face
Waaaaay before the mid 80s, try late 70s when he co founded the Germs with Darby Crash. Pat was the only established musician when he started with the Germs and was almost important as Darby was in shaping their sound.
@@darkdude521 I read about that in “Lexicon Devil”, the book about Darby and the Germs. LOTS of interesting facts and stories about that crazy time in the 70’s-early 80’s..the school they went to was kinda strange...their teachers were Scientologists, and taught them all these techniques and shit..that’s California for ya..!😂
*Pat Smear is the Forrest Gump of rock, he was in three iconic bands. Respect*
pat's 10 years older than dave grohl he's the dad
@@gussoficial Plus, Jason is the dad of Combat Beard. So there's that.
"He's better than both of us" lol
How can Pat fucking Smear be so humble, wholesome, and down to earth?
@@alejandromitre1591 Psychotropics and being naturally warm.
@@alejandromitre1591 It's so weird because I have no exposure whatsoever to The Germs other than their reputation and knowing the general outline of the story of Darby Crash.
So I cannot in any way connect the Pat Smear I've seen around Foo Fighters all these years and what he must've been like in the late 70s.
@@alejandromitre1591 He's 60 and doesn't look one bit 60
@@alejandromitre1591 Especially for a guy that named himself after a pap smear.
Give me all of the Nirvana and Pat Smear content
Hold on....I'm worried what you heard was give me a lot of Nirvana and Pat Smear Content. What I said was....Give me ALL of your Nirvana and Pat Smear content" - Ron Swanson
pat has this ability to completely knock out the depression in a room , even by watching him. its a cool strength vibe. hes like an edgewerthia chrysanthem that has grown in the himilayas and no disease or pest knows how to attack it. its refreshing.
Man, perfect summation.
That is the most oddly specific analogy you could have come up with, and yet it works perfectly.
Beautifully put.
Pat is always the happiest guy!
I read that as happiest gay my mistake
he is cursed with happinness hahaha
Pat is 61. WTF. If I can be 10% of this cool at that age.
uh, no way,, wow
I cant get enough of these nirvana stories!
For real. I wish Howard would sit down with Krist, Dave and Pat and just talk Nirvana for a couple of hours. There must be so many great stories about making those albums. Howard clearly appreciates Nirvana way more than he used to back in the day.
Look up the Dave and Pat hang out at David Bowie's hangouts clip, to get a more complete account on how it went.
Kurt met Pat in a record shop where he was basically working to stay alive and Kurt going "Excuse me, but aren't you?" So the two of them started talking and Pat admitting that he didn't have a pot to piss in and Kurt going "Well. I have a job for you if you want it!"
But to show you guys exactly HOW down on his luck Pat was, he had to pawn his guitars to afford a plane ticket to Seattle, so he became Nirvana's guitarist while not even owning a guitar! And Kurt going "No problem, I have this relationship with Fender, let me hook you up." And handing over one of his own guitars (a blue Mosrite, which he used on the SNL performance.) as a stop gap.
There honestly needs to be a legit documentary done on Pat Smear and his illustrious career he's been through a hell of alot, and contributed so much to early punk rock- Pat Smear was the only established musician when he helped form the Germs with Darby, he totally shaped their patented sound. Between the Germs and Nirvana he lost two good friends both extremely important and influential to suicide, Darby Crash and Kurt Cobain (yes I know Kurts suicide is questionable.) Then of course all those years in the Foo Fighters.....
I love how everyone in the band gets to speak!
Do they though?
I don’t like your sarcasm *sarcasm*
Pat is such an awesome guy! Kurt had great taste getting hold of pat. We're so lucky to have him in the Foo Fighters today. Love all these guys, such amazing talent
Man, well said. Imagine the life Pat would've had. Probably as pedestrian as ours.
How could you not love Pat Smear
This seems like a good interview, its not often we hear nirvana stories from pats perspective.
I love Pat. He's always such a genuine guy. And at 61, the dude is still as hip and cool as ever.
It feels so good when they talk about nirvana
this was only in recent times.... for the first few years after Kurt had passed, Dave didnt wanna talk about Nirvana... and no one even recalls the first time they heard Pat speaking about anything :D
Dave Grohl saying that he is an “ok musician” is like Vincent Van Gogh saying that he’s ok at doing doodles.
Mmmm idk
Terrible analogy..... Van Gogh doing "doodles"? Thats not even what Van Gogh was known for AT ALL!! lol I get your point but that analogy is absolute shit. (Hint: Painters dont call their paintings or even preliminary sketches "doodles" and Van Gogh was not a "doodler" regardless)
@W 9797 what’s wrong with that? Look at malmstein super awesome guitar player that nobody really respects since he is a piece of shit lol we love grohl for these reasons! He is a humble man and he had the balls to form another band after his lead singer blew his head off! Most people wouldn’t be able to pull off what dave has done after such a tragedy.
@W 9797 are you drunk
@@jacobrivera8821 I think you're mistaking personal and professional man... I mean ofc we all love Grohl but Yngwie is a guitar legend regardless
Kurt Cobain knew what a beast guitar player Pat Smear is after listening to his solo album from 1992 called "So you fell in love with a musician". He didnt have to audition him. Pat Smear is an incredible guitar player.
Pat just seems like the coolest and nicest dude.
Pat Smear never stops smiling!
Dave is such a monster musician. Everything he touches is gold. I’ve never been a giant Nirvana or Foo Fighters fan boy. I’m more of a Pantera kind of guy. But Dave is just undeniable in his pursuit of music. Fucking guy can play anything. And to be cool as fuck on top of it all. Bastard 😂
Pat Smear is the happiest man on the world and this is one prove.
Pat brought huge energy to the stage in his time with Nirvana.
I absolutely love Pat. He's the epitome of cool.
I feel like Foo Fighter's continued success largely stems from Dave's unyielding humility as a lead, and the incredible amounts of admiration all the band members have for each other. If you ask Dave who the best drummer in the world is, he'll say Taylor Hawkins. If you ask him who the best guitarist is, he'll say Pat Smear. Then you talk to Taylor and he's like "naw, Dave's the best drummer in the world," and Pat would be like "dude he's better at guitar than all of us!"
Pat and Dave just have the best chemistry. Being on tour with them must have been fun.
Pat smear... Living legend!
Pat Smear is the personification of humility. To thine self be true. Love it.
Cant help but Have a smile when Pats speaks and shares stories.
I saw the In Utero tour here in Dallas Texas. Pat was playing with them. All I can say is he was a complete natural.
Pat is such a good dude!
I will always love Pat's gorgeous smile. 🤘❤️
He is a cool, handsome guy! You wouldn't think that he was 61!
I love him❤❤❤❤😍
Pat smear is one of most dynamic live guitarist
Everyone in the Foo Fighters and Nirvana are talented musicians with great, heart, feel, tone & groove. Rock-on my brothers!
That Jason Everman would have been set for life. Music industry has strange turns. Great interview, great band.
I think he went into the army if I remember correctly. There was an article in The NY Times about him talking about leaving Nirvana and what he did afterwards. I’m pretty sure it was him. Might be worth a google. Too many ex-Nirvana band members to remember them all.
Jason Everman has had an amazing military career!
Jason Everman was "fired" from both Nirvana and Soundgarden, and later joined the military. Kinda feel sorry for the guy.
Jason went into the Army and became SF, Green Beret for all of you civilian assholes. He’s pretty legendary in their community. He played in Soundgarden for a time as well.
@Kyle J That dude was a Ranger and a Green Beret so he definitely kicked major a**.
I love that they are sharing positive stories about each other
Pat smear is the coolest guy ever
I'm not an in music, but I always thought Dave was one of the best drummers of all time.
His drums in Nirvana sounded like a force of nature to me.
I literally can not get enough of these Nirvana stories. This is awesome!
This is exactly the interview I wanted to see today. Love Pat and the old Nirvana stories.
Pat Smear rocking the Lake Simcoe 🇨🇦 sweater, nice buddy!!!
🍻👊🇨🇦
luv pat smear
Pat smear is awesome,it was great when he joined nirvana,
He just fit right in,
An i really think its cool that dave brought him in to the foo fighters,
I was bummed out when pat quit in late 97,
But over joyed when he came back,
He belongs in the foo fighters with Dave an the rest of the band,🤘
Can we all acknowledge pats Lake Simcoe sweater for a second?
"the germs don't give af" dave grohl
give alfredo fettuccine
Makes you wonder what the next Nirvana album would've sounded like
I think they would have broken up tbh
Pat's demeanor and approach in life keeps him sane.. Pat's a badass! And he's blessed and loved.. the universe ordained him to have the best, because of good karma.
I never really looked at Nirvana as a 4 piece band but after this interview I have to give Pat his dues. Great dude and guitarist and also never knew he was a member of the Germs.
I love how down to earth these guys seem to be even after legendary years of music making and still one of my favorite bands.
Dave: Humble, Pat: Humble - You gotta love these guys for not being cocky and arrogant.
Love this Nirvana stories
i love how shy becomes David as soon as he knows what story they gona tell... such a great vibe from that guy!
I love Pat's smile, he's always fabulous
More Pat Smear please
As counterintuitive as it may sound, Pat is punk rock royalty.
He's wearing a sweater from the place I live! 😊
If another Nirvana album happened with Pat along for the ride, I would feel absolutely content with my life. I love the era when he joined.
I love these interviews
Right On....Pat Smear rockin a Lake Simcoe hoodie. We have a family cottage there, was ice fishing on it yesterday. 🇨🇦👍
Pat's rockin the Lake Simcoe Ontario hoodie
Pat is a good fit in both bands.
Man....I could vids like this for days. Dave, Pat, and Taylor....dudes encompass musical greatness!
Love pat he’s the best
I laughed when they played the SNL show knowing it was his first gig with Nirvana
Such a great interview, please post the whole thing Howard Stern!
Pat is such a great guy
Kurt said nirvana is meant to be a 4 piece band. Well jason evermann is now a well decorated US soldier.
Jason Everman was also in Soundgarden for a few months. I know unbelievable but true.
Respect. I didn't know that. Thank you.
Warms my soul hearing these stories
I love, love, love Nirvana and never get bored listening to anything I find online, that is new to me, about them and especially Kurt❤️. However, I have to feel for the rest of the Foo when these questions come up, as aren't they sick to death of hearing about Kurt and Nirvana...... Rock on Dave. Love Foo but Nirvana has my heart.
Dave is so not down with compliments, haha. You could tell he knew that story about Pat and Kurt hearing him play and he was just staring at his feet - as if he were ashamed!
Listen to Pat Smear ''Golden Boys''.
God I love this interview so much
Pat brought experience and maturity to the game.
I love these guys! Always liked Pat, glad he got to be part of Nirvana ❤️
Class acts!! Compliments from one musician to another, priceless....
I think we all should be thankfull to God for giving us Pat Smear
I love these stories, they make me smile😍
I love these videos so much.
Great interview!
Absolutely love this video.
This is really fun Thanks Howard and Fooo
Dave's always been one humble dude.
Pat Smear a Humble Man I love him
Love the Orillia / Lake Simcoe hoodie. First time my old home town was cool.
Pat Smear is the coolest cat, ever!
Really dig these guys. Saw Foo during their first three tours - Mike Watt, Shudder To Think and Supergrass. Figured that was enough for me; they got huge after that and wasn't worth seeing them in arenas. Very stoked they're still around and rocking big time.
Yeah, humble Dave❤
I love Pat Smear & Dave Grohl!!! I love Krist too! I have not watched Stern in many years so it popped up because of Nirvana.
Pat always looks so happy
I like Pat Smear. He confirms again to be a nice and very grounded guy
I can’t wait to experience another Foo show!!!
Howard asks some really good questions most talk show hosts don’t.
I heart Pat Smear!
Wow, I love seeing stuff like this.
Actually before Pat joined Nirvana, they kind of tried out Big John Duncan, from The Exploited, as well. He was their guitar tech at the time and played second guitar on a few tracks. Not sure if he ever was considered as a possible addition to the band, or if they were just having a good time, but again it shows Nirvana knew their punk classics. (Whether or lot you like The Exploited, Big John was a mean guitar player!!)
Pat is and will always be the coolest
I hope these guys have careers as long as the Stones. I love them.
I like Pat’s hoodie. Representing cottage country!
Take a look at Chris. His face says it all....
