Prince did an impromptu performance in Minneapolis in 1989 for his local fans…$10 to get in. He had the purple cape on and played for 4 hours nonstop. 💜
He did the same thing in Dallas, played at a bar on Lower Greenville after a sold out arena show. He just put out the word and showed up and played for over two hours.
hes fake, doesn't speak on politics or use his platform for greater good, his band mate Kurt was murdered by his girlfriend and he stayed quiet like a coward
He IS a cool guy... My good friend is a huge fan of his as well as a musician. One day he got a call that Dave and his band just pulled up to his bar in Prescott, WI on their motorcycles... My buddy was like 30 minutes out and Dave waited for him so they could meet. That's pretty damn nice!
Dave Grohl is the most humble superstar of the music industry. That guy everyone wanna share a beer with and just cheer out enjoying the best stories in the world.
Prince was notorious for his after show jam sessions. I saw him at the forum for the Welcome 2 America tour and one night he played a show that lasted 4 hours / we thought he was done ✅ since he had already done 10 encores but as we’re shuffling back to our car - Prince was still jamming - we could hear him still rocking for those with the will , the strength to rock w him … the man was a force . Unbelievable…. Oh and the shows cost exactly $25 bucks to see a legend - I went 3 nights to see my musical hero . Thank you Prince ☔️when he played purple I got chills .
As Dave was telling this, I literally forgot that Prince had died. Seeing the date the video was posted, I somehow thought this had just recently happened. Reality finally clicked half way through the story. I think I _still_ haven't fully accepted Prince's death.
Every single Prince story I hear or read has the same commonality; Prince is otherworldly and to even just be in his presence is something that feels like it can never be matched. I've never met him, but I've seen him play a small venue right after playing an arena and I have not seen anything like it since. He was such a gift and I miss him every day.

He has got to be one of the nicest guys in the music business. He always comes across as humble, fun to be around and the kind of guy almost anyone can be friends with.
I think what I love most about Dave is that after all this time and two very influential bands, and all that he's accomplished, his passion is immeasurable. He seems like he would talk to anyone about music at anytime. Having a boatload of talent and confidence really helps.
Prince was the rare musician who was as popular with the masses as he was with musicians. He was as much as a people's entertainer as he was a musician's musician like whether you're a singer, a guitarist, a drummer, a bassist, a saxophonist, a pianist, a music producer, you've got to respect Prince's musical mastery. In general, you're either adulated by the masses or adulated by musicians marveling at your mastery but both across the whole board at this level is rare.

Dave is honestly just the coolest celebrity ever. He’s so humble and down to earth. The way he gets giddy when he gets to rock out with other rock stars. He’s the one celebrity I would love to meet before I die.
That’s exactly how I imagine any professional musician to act when they square up with someone like Prince. The dude was a powerhouse of technical skill, musical knowledge, precision, soul, grace, and rhythm. It would be a huge mistake to play with him while drunk. Good call on Dave’s part.
Unless you were like Bonzo. He was drunk half the time and he was still better than 99% of pro drummers. I have seen and heard so many bootleg performances and you would never know he was drunk. I have heard Page being out of it, but not Bonham.
Love this story (no matter how many times I hear it) because Dave met one of his heroes and wanted to keep it there! He understands the magic of a moment. I get it. He could have made it to follow-on engagement (he's Dave); yet, he didn't need to; the moment was magical and Dave sensed it was perfect as captured. No cameras, no press, just him and one of his musical influences.
I heard Dave did a fantastic job on Darling Niki and the drummer 😍 Would love to see the whole tribute. Prince was loved all over the world not just USA 💜

When I listen to Dave describe his childhood, how he learned to play drums, the music he listened to while learning, his friends, influences...I am amazed that me, growing up in South Texas, and Dave have a lot in common. I suppose a lot was just the time we grew up, in the 70's and 80's. Dave is a few years older but I was so heavy into everything from Zeppelin, Floyd, Sabbath, and RUSH to The Sex Pistols, Germs, X, PIL and The Eagles, Manilow, Bread, Sinatra. I am self taught also, spending hours learning songs in my garage with a walkman. And I am first and foremost, I am a fan. Music literally saved my life! It was my outlet and my focus...it is my passion. I love to hear him talk about how he is star struck when meeting his influences. I understand it completely, having had the honor of opening shows for a few of mine over the years. Still get that way every now and then. Dave is someone I would love to meet one day and just compare notes. His note book is much more full than mine but to talk as fans would be great! It must feel amazing to know that people look at him exactly the same as he looks up to his idols!
Stories like this are why I'm still in denial that Prince is actually gone. I'm not ready for a world without that genius. Dave Grohl is one of the coolest musicians in the world, and it's totally relatable how much he was fan-boying out.
"You wanna play drums?" "YEAH!!" LOL. Dave Grohl. We all have our idol's. Rest in peace Prince. He may have been a bit strange, but he ripped arguably the most iconic rock and roll induction ever with his performance on "While my guitar gently weeps". I love your work Dave, respect you as not only a bandmember of Nirvana, but lead vocalist, drummer, guitar player, song writter. Prince absolutely destroyed that tribute. We'ld be kinding ourselves not to acknowledge Prince as one of the best guitarists in our century.
Why "a bit strange"....qualify that? We may think you strange, isn't that subjective? So what have you accomplished from maybe being strange to Prince that may be noteworthy?
Prince was NOT strange!! He was brilliant and articulate and had mad respect for other musicians! He was just very quiet and quite introverted until he was performing music. Damn I miss him being on this planet and kicking ass in the music world!💜💜💜💜

Miss you Prince.💕
Personally, I would say the same thing I have told a few Artist's I have met....... "I just wanted to say, THANK YOU!!, for everything you do and have done. You are Truly Gifted. So, Again, Thank You."
P.S. ,,,, Oh yeah, forgot to tell you..... That is STILL A Great Story you have there. You are very lucky to have had that time..... and obviously Gifted, as you were a part of that..... whole scene...... So, Nice 1. Peace.
First time watching this video! Fortunate enough to be friends with Kerwin, head security for David Grohl and the Foo Fighters. So cool to hear his part in this story. Best of part of the video is seeing how David reverts back to being a fan who was lucky enough to get a private jam session with Prince. What an awesome experience. RIP.
Dave Grohl saying "and then I never saw him again" you can see the realization of what he said hit him and he almost gets emotional so he moves back away from the camera and ends the story quickly. I'm sure if he had kept talking he would have been emotional. Such a powerful moment when one legend is a fan of another legend. It's like watching Clapton get emotional about the last time he saw Hendrix.
Dave is just such a huge music fan in general. He's so enthusiastic. It's great to see a guy like that who's totally into it and not jaded at all. What a mensch.
I never got to truly see him in concert either, although it was the very first concert I worked at the Pyramid Arena in Memphis Tennessee back in 1997. Unfortunately I was stuck in the catering kitchen taking and processing orders for the private skyboxes.
I saw him in Baltimore during the Jam Of The Year tour. Amazing show. The dude was freaking funny as hell, too! When they got to Face Down, he asked all of the people who brought kids to hit the concession stand. When he finished, he called them back in. Legen.... wait for it.... dary.

"You've got a heavy foot, man."
LEGEND 💜
Moffett has the sugar, Grohl has the lead
What that mean?
Prince did an impromptu performance in Minneapolis in 1989 for his local fans…$10 to get in. He had the purple cape on and played for 4 hours nonstop. 💜
WOW!! No doubt that was beyond incredible!!💜💜
He did the same thing in Dallas, played at a bar on Lower Greenville after a sold out arena show. He just put out the word and showed up and played for over two hours.
Wow
Dave Grohl is well-liked and well-spoken of because he truly is a fan as well an idol to many. Cool guy it seems
ice18 He says the same about every other musician he talks about.
I like Dave because it seems to come from a real genuine place. He has no one to impress telling that story 💜
Dave is an definition of a fan being really famous.
hes fake, doesn't speak on politics or use his platform for greater good, his band mate Kurt was murdered by his girlfriend and he stayed quiet like a coward
I love Prince stories. They’re always crazy and unbelievable.
Prince stories are unbelievable. Dave’s stories are crazy fun. So you know Dave’s story about Prince is going to be entertaining. :)
I love hearing people talk about Prince, doing that and listening to his music keeps him alive!
It really does, and that really means a lot
keeps me alive as well
@@bambicymone9390 I know what you mean Bambi!
The jimmy fallon story is great , about ping pong look it up if u have not heard it .
I completely agree with everything you wrote. It kills me that drugs got him. I miss him too.
Prince stories are always amazing.
Find Marc Doty's story here somewhere on UA-cam...his channel is AutomaticGainsay.
The Carlos Boozer tale is one of my favorites. At first it seemed like it wouldn't end well. Then Carlos is like "Prince is a hell of a dude"!
Or weird.
@@DChrls true
Yes - with a bit of mystery in each! (as Prince was)
Whenever somebody tells a great Prince story, they just light up. It's awesome.
God, what I would pay to hear Prince on guitar and Dave on drums performing whole lotta love
David Grohl went to his kid's school fund raiser, he lived happily ever after keeping things real.
It's nice to know one of my favorite musicians, from the rock world, understands how great of an artist Prince was/is.
They're both from the musical world. Plus Prince was a rocker.
@@billybones2521 Prince was a rocker indeed, but somewhere down the line White rockers stopped seeing it that way, so I totally get it how awesome it is to hear Dave Grohl talk about Prince with such geniune admiration, being a lifelong Prince fan as well as a longtime fan of Dave Grohl.

He’s the best storyteller. He could talk about the table of elements and I’d be enthralled
You can tell the pure childlike joy that Dave felt having that moment. That's amazing
Prince was a musical genius from another dimension.

MamaBoots1111 and Taylor stayed in bed for 6 weeks after hearing that
He says that about everyone
CJ Live he was in Nirvana too
Thats crazy considering he was in what some people consider the greatest band ever (Nirvana) if not one of the top 3 bands.
@Russell White I totally agree with you. Mainstream media have them in the upper echelons of music. They were a shockingly good band. I had totally given up on rock music coming out of the hair band days of the 80's. Im a r&b, funk, soul lover but I had an appreciation for rock. So my all time favorites are EWF, Parliament/Funkadelic, James Brown & the JB's, stuff like that. Nirvana dosen't rank with those bands, but I like them.
The world 🌎 is not as nice a place without Prince in it...Love Dave Grohl❤️
Oh my god it's funny to hear Dave talk about Prince like he's a kid in a candy store 😂
HUGE fan of both!
He never acts like he’s too cool for school.
I love how he minimizes his talent. DAVID GROHL IS A LEGEND!
@@mattwaldman4104
Dave Grohl is a legend mostly because of his attitude. Don't get me wrong, he's good but his career would have taken a much different trajectory if he was a dick or acted at all like Prince. Prince is a legend for being one of the best raw musical talents on the planet. Dude could play anything and play it so damn good that it made me wonder if he was actually a human or some future robot sent back to torment mere mortals trying to play "music".
He has got to be one of the nicest guys in the music business. He always comes across as humble, fun to be around and the kind of guy almost anyone can be friends with.
True…
Real Music. Real Musicians. Unmistakable. “Top 40” take SERIOUS NOTES! ✝️💟☮️
TRUTH!
I think what I love most about Dave is that after all this time and two very influential bands, and all that he's accomplished, his passion is immeasurable. He seems like he would talk to anyone about music at anytime. Having a boatload of talent and confidence really helps.
What a blast. Oh poor Dave! Heart-warming dedication to his family. The man has his priorities right.
@@Rxzwell "murdered" ummm
Absolutely love how excited Dave Grohl is he is so down to earth
We all deserve a Prince story. Even as fans, we want one of our own.
We can have them in our dreams
And in classic Prince form... Dave had one of his greatest experiences ever, and then it was over. Prince never called again. Perfect.
A lot like Kevin Smith's story of how he made a documentary for Prince that went into the Prince vault, never to be seen.
Yeah that was Prince alright lol he was so elusive and we loved him for it.
@@PaulGuy --- it's hilarious how Kevin Smith was bustin' on Prince but it came out seeming like a bigger fan LOL
Goosebumps man. Dave is awesome. Prince... we miss you dearly.
Played guitar like Hendrix, danced like James Brown, electric on stage and wrote tunes that were Pure Purple-Dave Grohl, like all us mortals,a huge Prince fan and all round good guy too.
@Deese Knutz What a racism? Prince simply associated with pop star turned out to be great instrumentalist, guitarist so many ppl asocciated him with guitar Icon being Hendrix (for many ppl)
@Deese Knutz Prince dressed flamboyant like Hendrix his playing was a cross between Hendrix and Santana.
Deese Knutz
Great job making a cool musicians story about a cool musician he loved that he got to play with about race. Bravo, you are so strong, brave, and progressive. You are the best and I hope you find more positive comments to shit on! Much love mister, you are so talented and insightful

Dave is honestly just the coolest celebrity ever. He’s so humble and down to earth. The way he gets giddy when he gets to rock out with other rock stars. He’s the one celebrity I would love to meet before I die.
He's one of several on my list! Unfortunately I never got to meet my "idol, THE music god" 🎶 Prince💜💜🎶.
Saw Prince twice in MSP. Nothing compares.
That’s exactly how I imagine any professional musician to act when they square up with someone like Prince. The dude was a powerhouse of technical skill, musical knowledge, precision, soul, grace, and rhythm. It would be a huge mistake to play with him while drunk. Good call on Dave’s part.
@trufiend138 How many albums have you made? You are basic, Grohl is a legend!
for real...
I miss Prince, a lot.
i was grinning through the whole story. so great.

I got the chills with him telling this story. I love Prince and Dave.
I love it. I love the fact that Dave is a huge rock start himself, but still gets giddy over meeting and jamming with Prince. ❤️
Ummm...who wouldn't be giddy after meeting Prince! He was a legend, a god of music!
Prince's ability to make amazing talented artist and celebrities into fanboys is legend.
Dave seems like THE most personable dude ever -- rock star or next door neighbor. Doesn't even matter. Just so personable. I'd love to have a beer with him, and I don't even drink beer!

Man, that would've been something to see. Prince has always been, in my book, not only an amazing person and singer, but one of the MOST talented instrumentalists. Dude could play just about anything he was handed, but stayed so humble. Miss that dude.
💜💜💜💜U said it all dude!!
I love these Prince stories.
There was only one Prince, insane talent.
Dave Grohl after all of his success in his storied career is still "just happy to be there".
Stories like this are why I'm still in denial that Prince is actually gone. I'm not ready for a world without that genius. Dave Grohl is one of the coolest musicians in the world, and it's totally relatable how much he was fan-boying out.
"You wanna play drums?"
"YEAH!!"
LOL.
Damn I miss him being on this planet and kicking ass in the music world!💜💜💜💜
What a legend. Dave and Prince. I am so happy to have been alive while these men walked this planet.
Prince stories are always the best, no matter who tells them.

Some of the BEST MOMENTS always end that way!
I still love how all these legendary people are just so awestruck to meet prince and the story is always just so interesting. Rip prince. Dude was beyond a legend.
All the stories about Prince suddenly appearing out of nowhere makes me crack up. He's an alien! LOL
What a great experience. I’ll never forget when he was filming Purple Rain, I was an extra in all the concert Scenes at first Avenue, and when they were done filming I happened to be standing on the dance floor off to the side and than I noticed this small man walks by and it’s him. I just watch as he walks by trying to think of something to say. What do you say? Lol. So, I just smile and watch and inside my head I say I’m so proud of you. I guess I could’ve said that, lol.

RIP.
And then he covered you at the Super Bowl!! I melted to the floor!!!
Love Dave - he is one of the most down to earth guy and so very talented.
It's like watching Clapton get emotional about the last time he saw Hendrix.
wtf????
Dave is just such a huge music fan in general. He's so enthusiastic. It's great to see a guy like that who's totally into it and not jaded at all. What a mensch.
That was AWESOME thanks for sharing that story Dave!👍

I never got to truly see him in concert either, although it was the very first concert I worked at the Pyramid Arena in Memphis Tennessee back in 1997. Unfortunately I was stuck in the catering kitchen taking and processing orders for the private skyboxes.
I saw him in Baltimore during the Jam Of The Year tour. Amazing show. The dude was freaking funny as hell, too! When they got to Face Down, he asked all of the people who brought kids to hit the concession stand. When he finished, he called them back in. Legen.... wait for it.... dary.
