- My bumblebee dart frogs (Dendrobates leucomelasj have produced tadpoles! In this video I discuss the breeding triggers for bumblebee dart frogs, describe their interesting development, and describe how I am raising the tadpoles. Bumblebee dart frogs provide some parental care to their tadpoles, which you will see in this video.

Congratulations on the tadpoles. That's interesting how the male transports the tadpoles on his back to another body of water.
Elaine Smith Thank you Elaine! I agree...frog reproduction is so variable and fascinating!
Interesting. I learn something from you again. I like frogs and toads. I find them really useful in controlling mosquito and cockroach population since I'm living in the tropics. Every rainy season, my outdoor ponds is full of them. We had really hot weather during the last two years and I only find very few tadpoles, unlike the past years. This year, however, the weather is a bit better and I find them breeding so much again. The tadpoles eat one of the fish food and they see me as the food person. After they grow up they rarely are afraid of me. Some even allow me pick them up. I always feel happy when I find new frogs that I haven't seen before.
jl cogito That is amazing! I think it is awesome that they learn to recognize you! They are definitely our allies in the battle against quite a few pests. 🐸👍
congrats! Rus, the surrogate Dad...
Mark Osborne Thank you Mark! I guess I am indeed a frog Daddy now...🐸👍
Awesome video, congrats on the babies!
FBeskimo Thank you, I’m excited!
wonderful! that was something else to see the tadpole on its dads back!
Down the Worm Hole Thank you! I was so glad to get that shot! 🐸👍
Well done! Breeding is almost always a sign that animals are perfectly healthy and happy. That is soooo cool!
varanidguy Thank you! I am pretty excited! 🐸👍
wow! congrats!
dbachelor's Planted Aquarium Thank you! 🐸👍
Congrats! Nice work.
Thank You! This helped alot!
Fascinating!! Amazing to watch the male carry the tadpole. Thanks for sharing this!!
Tracy B Thank you! I was pretty gleeful when I discovered the first tadpole! 🐸👍
That's amazing that you got them to breed, which bromeliad did you use? Guzmania perhaps?
David Rodriguez close! I have 3 Neoregelia bromeliads in there with them. 😊👍
@@Aquarimax that is awesome, keep giving us great advise, you're videos are great 👍!
Wow it has a very limited reproduction capabiliity.
James King in a sense, yes, compared to frogs that produce thousands at once. This frog is less
Likely to be eaten because of its toxicity, so it can afford to have a smaller number of offspring. 👍
Fifth them frogs r so cool i really enjoy your videos russ🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Crystal Casares Thank you Crystal! Your comments always make me smile! 😊👍
Watching that Male jiggle violently as he calls on a loose hanging leaf was hilarious you made my day
Rom 🤣👍
Such magnificent little creatures. Vivariums are a natural complement for any aquarium keeper. :)
colinbarsby Thanks Colin! I couldn’t agree more!
Very interesting video!! Loved seeing the Dad carrying the tadpoles!
First, only because I got a Notification

James Bryan 🤣🐸👍
eagerly waiting for the follow up video, especially the feeding regime of the tadpoles.
jessumano al 🐸👍 i will make sure to post that. Thanks for watching!
Ahh so cool , I think I've seen a doco about this species , I remember this thing of the father was carrying the tadpoles on his back and drop them in some water . So cool they bred after 2 years and a half . Are you gonna keep them ?
Salvo Smith Thanks Salvo! I will probably let them grow out a while and then find a new home for them, as their vivarium is at capacity with 3 adults. 🐸👍
Where do you place the cups after you have put the tadpoles in them? Would I need a second terrarium?
That’s just too cool!!! I love sitting to watch the fish in my 3 aquariums and find it relaxing!! This would be ultra-interesting!!
Child of Christ Thank you! Both fish and frogs are definitely relaxing to watch. 🐸👍
arent those things mad deadly
only in the wild, I think it's something to do with the insects they eat there.
Not in captivity...in the wild, their diet contains the toxins. 🐸👍
MoreChannelNoise right you are! 🐸👍
Congratulations hope you have baby frogs soon
Nice
Andrew's Animals Thank you! 🐸👍
Jurassic Park reference? Hehe
Could you keep different species together? Like the blue and black ones with the yellow and black or the "true nominal" ones?
Plant-Based Experiment some people do, but generally it is not recommended, except perhaps in. Wet large enclosures.
@@Aquarimax hmmm could frogs be of different colors but same species? The zoo here in Nashville has several kinds in the same enclosures
Plant-Based Experiment that is possible, but also frowned upon in case of hybridization. They probably have different species together. It can be done. It makes breeding more difficult, and there can be aggression issues...I am sure the zoo is taking that into scoutmasters and managing accordingly. 😊👍
@@Aquarimax btw do you have an online store you sell isopods at? Or is it a hobby you grow their colonies?
Plant-Based Experiment some of both...if you’re interested in a price list, you can go to my ‘about’ tab on UA-cam. Email me from there, and I will send you one, 👍
So cool, great video
QueAquatics Thank you! 😊👍
So cool!! I’m planning to get some(not bumblebees) at the next expo! This is my new favorite video of yours so far!
EverythingCREATED Awesome, which species are you getting? Also, just curious...which video is now in second place? 😊👍
Optimally, D. Auratus, but I’m not sure yet.... the mourning gecko videos all tie for second place. Lol
EverythingCREATED 🤣 I see! That makes sense. 🦎 I once had an auratus, they are shy but very beautiful!
Do you have any recommendations? Here are my preferences;
Fine in groups
Easy to breed
More ground-oriented
Better if more bold. But I’m ok with shy ones.
Relatively inexpensive.
EverythingCREATED sounds like you need bumblebees...LOL! How big is your vivarium?
