Terrific series focusing on each type of frog! It would get great if you could start capturing their calls. Maybe create a kind of library of frog calls. They are remarkably different.
Cool frogs. Interesting history. You guys get frogs calling to the vid. I get my dogs barking at themselves. Thanks for the species spotlight. Enjoyed learning about them.
Just found Northern Frogger and I love it. My family and I are talking about diving into the world of poison dart frogs as a family pet and this is great information.
I absolutely love this. I look forward to more videos on your other frog types. I am personally in love with Highland Bronze and plan to start off with those. I would like to breed eventually. As we have been breeding fish for 25 years and breeding appeals to us greatly. These videos are very informative. Thank you!!
This is the 5th frog commercial, er, video I have watched. Josh finally let me her one of the frogs croak. It's not the croak sound I wanted to hear in my house. There are small frogs like these in a seasonal creek and waterfall off of a hiking trail just outside of Newbury Park, CA. They are very loud and I love listening to them. I guess I'll have to find out what species they are and look for a place that sells them.
Thanks for making this video. I'm in the process of building a large/tall exoterra viv this winter. I'm trying to figure out which dart frog species to put in it next spring.
Your species spotlight vids helped me decide what dart frog I was going to get ( Dendrobates Auratus Costa Rican el cope I switched last second cause joshs frogs ran out of the green and black)
Excellent video. Congratulations! I'm trying to get in the dart frog hobbie and might start with the leucomelas. Is, the first plant in the opening, a Urtica dioica?!! Thanks!!!!
Love the video. great vid. been subbed because im using your tanks as inspiration. thanks. been a salt water/ fresh water guy so as much as ive wanted dart frogs, ive been scared but i think its time lol
Most people into dart frogs really, really care about the animals being preserved in the wild, and captivity because they are endangered .People who own salt water tanks claim to love the ocean while destroying it even further than global warming.
Thanks for the insight. I mean I'm sure you own a car and probably use a lot of things that possibly can kill the environment. but nice to know I should switch hobbies in order to save the world from global warming.
@@kishb4609 Ripping all the fish from the ocean to put in a display tank because they cant be captive bred has nothing to do with global warming, one who is so sure of things.
I get that but what does that have to do with what I commented? do you go around commenting on everyones comments who mention salt water tanks? or just giving out information? if you just want to teach the mass youd be better off making a video explaining that. I just don't see why that was so important for you to mention. but you do realize that our forests and jungles also being destroyed by humans. I doubt you go on peoples vids who do landscaping and destroy a lot of trees and tell them how killing trees are bad. I just wanted to leave a simple comment for thanking this Northern Frogger for making a good video
I'm starting up a vivarium now and plan on getting 4 bumblebee tadpoles eventually. Assuming they all come from the same clutch, what are your thoughts on sibling breeding? I read that it happens but not sure if this is something most try to avoid.
You'll want to feed them melanogaster fruit flies. As far as plants, there are tons of options. Things like pothos or some philodendrons are easy to grow and inexpensive to obtain. Bromeliads are always nice but not really required for bumblebees. Almost any tropical plant than can handle very high humidity can work well in a dart frog tank.
Size is the main thing. I find the toe pad thing to not really be reliable with bumblebees. Of course, if one of them is calling that's a clear indication of a male!
It would be better to have two males, as the females are more likely to fight each other, but leucomelas aren't super territorial in my experience so two females would probably be ok together too, especially if they have enough space and there is no male to compete over.
@@Matthew-cd8iv thaknks =D I have lots of bromeliads full of water for them to lay. I also heard leucs don't take care of their tadpoles so they would die anyways if I don't feed them? I suppose I can just scoop them up with a spoon when I see them =)
Thanks for the video :) I love the sound of these but haven’t heard them in person. Would there be issues having them in an apartment as far as noise levels?
Glad you enjoyed it! These are one of the louder dart frogs, but I still think they would be fine in an apartment. Especially since they are diurnal and call during the day, so they shouldn't keeping anyone up!
Thank you for great info just building my first vivarium using troys method of great foam and wire wheel it is 36x36x18 do you sell these guys when I’m all finished and have seasoned my tanks? Since I live in Canada and can’t order from Troy
Awesome! Glad you found it useful :) I do sell these guys, and I can ship within Canada via Reptile Express. I don't actually have any available right now, but I do have several froglets that will be ready soon!
I definitely wouldn't recommend it. An adult White's could eat even an adult bumblebee, not to mention they have different husbandry requirements which would make it challenging if not impossible to provide the ideal habitat for both in one enclosure.
I do have a very incomplete website at northernfrogger.ca but there is a contact form there. If you have Instagram you can dm me there too @northernfrogger
Unless you are actively licking or eating them, very few frogs anywhere have enough poison to actually kill a human. Dart frogs get their poison from the insects they eat, so many of them are poisonous in the wild, but will not develop poisons when fed a captive diet of fruit flies. But even in the wild, most of them aren't poisonous enough to cause any real harm to humans unless you are actively ingesting them.
Terrific series focusing on each type of frog! It would get great if you could start capturing their calls. Maybe create a kind of library of frog calls. They are remarkably different.
I have actually been trying to do that! I've got pretty good quality audio recordings of 6 or 7 of them now

Oh so cute! We have two bumble bee frogs! This video is really cool

Thank you. Very informational. Will be my first animal.

I don't see why not!

Thanks! I don't have any sips, but I would like to get some eventually.
Can you put two males/two females together or will tbey get aggressive? Im not trying to get a massive amount of eggs i cant do anything with.

I definitely wouldn't recommend it. An adult White's could eat even an adult bumblebee, not to mention they have different husbandry requirements which would make it challenging if not impossible to provide the ideal habitat for both in one enclosure.
i think they are neat but they would not live in the heat here
man i really want leucomelas but i don't want so many frogs :(... beautiful :)
Hi guys! Wondering if your leucomelas have ever had a "watered-out" yellow/orange? Like the colouring is not so opaque?
Nice video👍
Can you sale and ship bromeliads across Canada?
Yes I can!
Ok! I'll wait until summer
Made my male start calling
