Great job on packing/unpacking your tarantula exchange! Unpacking tarantulas can be stressful for you and the tarantula. Local show/shop pickups are so nice, but not always an option for rare or specific tarantulas you may be looking for. Alex was very generous to trade you straight up female for male with you. We have given a few different males away in the hope for future slings. We have also traded a male for an unsexed juvenile of the same species. Be careful on building a facility so you can have more than one tarantula. They can be addictive! Also, the more you get, the more likely you will experience bad molts, sudden deaths, etc. especially if you buy tiny slings to save money. And 90% of slings will eventually mature as male, just sayin’! 😉
@@Aquarimax that’s awesome! Before I saw you got one from him I was going to offer you a versi baby but I don’t want your wife to show up at my door with a baseball bat 😂😂😂
i am deciding between armidillidium vulgare magic potion american line, armidillidium macultum normal line, porcellio scaber lava, and porcellio laevis dairy cow. which one is best for display as a desk pet in a 12x12x12 glass enclosure?
Any of those could work in that enclosure once there is a certain population density. Dairy Cows will probably reach that point first, but you will need to thin their numbers soonest. I’d probably go with maculatum or Magic Potion.
sorry if I missed it in the video Rus but why did you want a female and not the male? I have been seeing more tarantulas lately around my house then I have ever seen, the locals say if you see one that means it is going to rain. I have no idea if it is true. Glad the exchange went well! ;-)
Males have stupid short lifespans in comparison to females. Males usually only have around a 5 year lifespan for most genuses. Some of the mexican tarantulas in the Brachy genus have been reported to have females reaching up to the 40 year mark! Sexual dimorphism is also present so if you want one of the goliaths that gets big and girthy you'll want a female, males tend to be more spindley and leggy.
Females just live much longer than males, in this species maybe 10-15 years versus up to 3-5 for males ( I think that is generous). I am not sure if rain correlates with roving male tarantulas though! 😁
Do you have an update about isopods species in planted / mossy vivariums. You are my source of information. Your last video about this raised some questions in the comments.
@@Aquarimax yes p.scaber or p.pruinosus or c.convexus. Not even that special but still beautiful. But i love my moss as well, so it is a difficult choice.
A soft long bristled paintbrush is a great nudge tool 🙂

So true, Alex is awesome, and it was generous to offer me a female like that!
Great points!
So glad it worked out great for you both. I hope Grover becomes father to many slings! And that female is awesome.

The lack of hairs on these guys is always a plus for newer keepers. they can be so skittish though!
