🫧🙏❤️🙏🫧 Knowing that the Grateful Dead’s music will live on through this upcoming generation of musicians makes my heart sing and fills me with gratitude!
Well that was good. Prolly one of the better guys to sing brokedown balance post Jerry. I’d like to see Bob and Phil do this song with the goose guy. This song is great because of the beautiful Robert hunter lyrics, this Rick guy brought it to life.
Ummmmmm no shit😉 Trey was my favorite guitar player from 1994-2022. Now it’s Rick. He’s the man. I just wish I could do some of the TAB Colab shows. I’ve only seen Goose 3 times but there are many many many many more to come.
This is beautiful. Didn't initially think much of Goose. After watching bits of these shows I gave them a much more thorough chance and I'm really digging them. Ricks voice and approach to guitar are formidable forces.
I've given them about as much of a chance as anyone could. Listened to all their stuff quite a bit, have seen them 3 times including while tripping hard. It just doesn't feel right to me. Too MDMAish and positive and over-engineered. And the bass parts are very boring. I need the bass line to be sweeping and moving all the time. I love the Grateful Dead sooo much (and JRAD - Never miss em). Goose is just a bunch of very talented guys playing songs that do nothing for me. Empress of Organos is my favorite of theirs.
They're definitely very talented, but I fail to see the timelessness in their music. A few songs are great. I saw them several times including while tripping hard. It sounds... uh... More for an MDMA crowd. It feels too positive and engineered... I like dark, mysterious, & spontaneous. The bassist is boring too. It could use a lot more Americana, bluegrass, and/or prog influence.../and sweeping basslines.
Very cool. I've loved this song for over 40 years. That being said, does anyone else see that the band's signs of physical affection is like the hippie version of golf claps?
Beautiful version, Rick's vocals not as moving as Jerry's on American Beauty recording but hey, that was a half century ago and Jerry was very young and fresh then. Am certain Garcia would have loved this Brokedown Palace, has so much of the spirt of the original, my favorite Dead song. Went to many Dead concerts but sadly never heard them do the song. Wish I could hear Rick & Co do the tune
Phil keeps the GD ethos of reinventing the music. D&C have attracted some that appear to be heads just to capitalize on the $$. When I see stealies on designer clothes it makes me cringe. I was first attracted to the Scene. One that was the antidote to normal society. The anarchist road imo. We didn't relate to society nor all its trappings. Shortly after the music grabbed my soul. Sometimes it feels that sense of adventure and misbehaving is almost gone. But not totally. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that the music is still alive!!!
I've been listening to the Grateful Dead virtually daily since 1978. I think Dead and Company suck so I never gave Phil and Friends a chance ..... But Woww!!!! Their music is fantastic!!!! (Their singing sucks but the music is great)
@@bumblebootwiddletoes5185 ? weird. One thing I particularly like about Goose is richs voice it’s very unique. Mihalis voice though makes me want to leave the venue sometimes and I’m not just saying that. Twiddlers great and I’ve seen them a bunch but sometimes mihalis voice is just the weakest link for me
I'm always so very bored at goose shows. Don't like his tone, but I do think this was not a bad fit, though Billy strings makes you feel his rendition much more.
Billy is incredible would be my pick love his playin period , and with bobby was fitting. For Rick he has openly admitted to not liking vibrato both vocally and playing style in his lines. He's extremely talented and he specifically said he feels its dark sounding/ feeling and good for him for recognizing his voice...he seems like wonderful person. There is something about a players vibrato though that makes them instantly recognizable and rooted in blues it has a soulful sound. Jerry was a picker obviously as a banjo player first but used lots of vibrato and grisman/garia recordings (high lonesome sound of Bill monroe) along with dead are full of soul. Trey obviously influenced heavy by Jimi, Zappa, even fripp plays a lot of vibrato and blues. Its actually fascinating to hear Rick play bluesy lines without, to his credit never forces sound. using that signature feature that adds a soulful touch he does it in his own way which is more upbeat obviously. Both Jerry and Trey have had quite the journey and it adds an intangible sure but if Rick approaches it his own way and avoids such physical pitfalls all the power to him. Derek trucks is straight as an arrow and can't get more soulful than that. I do hope Goose work on mix it does sound to me like a JGB or early TAB mix, bass is at least more audible now need to hear rhythm section, but everyband is different in 90-2000 for phish I imagine was a lot like 66-78 Dead where your ear could wander and you were greatful/grateful. I do find that hard to do with Goose and its one thing I hope changes. For me with Dead i'd usually listen to phil or Jerry both just icons phil being influenced by piano and Bill evans first virtuoso Bassist Scott Lafaro he has such a sound Mike Gordon has no problem admitting his admiration and emulation, and phish all 4 will each imply things the others follow its as they intended a modern jazz quartet of rock. Fishman is one of one....I know you didn't ask but at times I feel the same dynamics wise they need more patience Rick gets revved up they follow in support but don't hear the interplay as much and id love to, seems to be getting better at creatively reaching crescendos , rather than just with speed and pitch. Thats something both phish and Dead are amazing in they're listening to each other and peaking with creative intensity not predictable loud , fast high pitched notes. Its already getting better though hopefully playing with TAB for but helps that so young patience should come natural once they get it. Always feel drummer leads every band musically and Goose is no exception but the bands mix makes it really sound like Rick's band I do hope that balances if it can. He's great either way im bias because hes younger than me but enjoys all the same music:) ✌
THANK YOU. I agree! Everyone's like, "Goose is the best!" No. They aren't. It's not even close. And yes, Goose should leave GD tunes alone. They just don't match stylistically at all.
@@joshkallen5376 I like Rick and would rather hear him play and sing Brokedown Palace. But there isn't a sane objective human on earth that thinks Rick is a better guitar player than John Mayer. John is a living guitar legend, respected by jazz, blues and rock masters. We all like what we like, Rick is great and so is Goose. But this is exactly the kind of comment that makes the Goose scene look foolish and hard to take seriously.
Rick is on the rise!! ❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
Rick has the magic in his voice and fingers.. Goose baby!! Loved that he got to do this!! 👏👏
I’m so glad I loved Goose before it was cool!!
I agree! It’s a fun side project! Goose has been SO busy…. In a great way!!! ☮️
@@AntonVanDerSar wish I had just found them a year ago
Ricky is an amazing guitar player and vocalist... we are so blessed to have him in our time line...
@@AntonVanDerSar lol right, went from a hometown band to now massive in what felt like a few years haha
Rick, like Jerry, has a voice that'll make you cry.
Dude right close your eyes and it sounds just like Jerry it's amazing
🫧🙏❤️🙏🫧 Knowing that the Grateful Dead’s music will live on through this upcoming generation of musicians makes my heart sing and fills me with gratitude!
Rick wasn't even born when this song came out, proof it transcends generations and will live on after we've all gone.
I like Phil’s friends.
Well that was good. Prolly one of the better guys to sing brokedown balance post Jerry. I’d like to see Bob and Phil do this song with the goose guy. This song is great because of the beautiful Robert hunter lyrics, this Rick guy brought it to life.
Ohhhh the nicest, warmest Phil lineup yet, just beautiful ❤
The Q was my favorite by far
This Rick kid has the chops and the vocals to go the distance in jamblandia
He’s part of the band Goose. Absolutely a killer band, and rising quickly in the jam scene, go check them out!

Well said.
His vocals are on another level than anything else right now. His guitar playing is pretty fantastic as well. Goose is a great band.

@bumbleboo twiddletoes based on your name I assume you respect Twiddle. Twiddle is the exact opposite of what they sing and preach.
Filling a empty heart today ❤
Also molo saying “Slick Rick!” at the end, melts me. Love the community love
Totally. Ever since The Range, he has been nothing but rock solid.
Good going Rick! 🔥 Closed it out !
What an intro by Phil! I’d say Let Phil sing but Let Rick (however you say his last name lol) sing is now in order! Rick is a beast with Brokedown!
You should hear him sing it with Goose. It’s a tear jerker!
Look up Goose doing “Bloodbuzz Ohio” from Redrocks 2022. Frikin amazing, he’s such an incredible singer and guitarist!
Mitarotonda ,Phil messing up his last name gave me a chuckle .
Phil is my spirit animal. That was beautiful. Thanks for posting this!
That young man can certainly sing !!!
Absolutely beautiful
Rick the slick. So cool
Love love love love love love
I saw Rick for the first time in Atlanta he is something else had me absolutely mind blown….. goose is on the rise
THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY TO SEE & HEAR!
This was so great to see from up close. Super lucky and happy way to celebrate my GF's Birthday!
Can't wait to see all you Phil phreaks tonight!
Just lovely.
I was at this show, frigin awesome🔥🔥🔥
Rick and Goose carrying the torch. Warms my heart.

What a birthday present for me!
this is 🔥🔥
This was a gift.
Goose played a version of this song as the closer of night one at Legend Valley in 2021 and made this one of my favorite songs ever.
Grateful Dead music is incredible. See JRAD if you can.
700 covers listened and this is the only one to hold the candle! thanks!
Fare thee well, Phil! 😍
Damn. That was perfect ❤
Love Phil

Love from Patti Cornell
Wow, great vocals at Phil without Warren. Loved the backup too. Sweet version
I love this. And all of you.
The end.
Melting voice
Rick kills it!
Sending love to you all from Patti Cornell
RICKY PICKY BABYY
Very nice. I also really like Joan Osbarne's version of this tune.
Gorgeous
This Rick dude has soul!
Yeah bud!
RIP James Casey 🙏🙏
❤❤❤
Love when Phil absolutely butchers Rick’s last name and he just throws him a thumbs up

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that the music is still alive!!!
In the end it's honoring the spirit of the song and not exactly who is performing it...or so it just occurred to me.
Awesome 👍🏻🙏🏼
I know Phil is old, but didn’t thy meet and play way earlier.
I've been listening to the Grateful Dead virtually daily since 1978. I think Dead and Company suck so I never gave Phil and Friends a chance ..... But Woww!!!! Their music is fantastic!!!! (Their singing sucks but the music is great)
Rick sounds similar to Don Henley to me and a little like John Mayer too.Not exactly the 2 coolest singers in the industry. But at least he can sing.
Oh yeah I'm PHIL lol. Sing for me new jam God lol
Eh. He's a pop star who likes jam music. Goose just doesn't do it for me.
Jen Hartswick is a God.
Ohhh hell in a bucket yes 🙌🏼
Fare you well
Goodbye Phil
Rick=Trey 2.0
The POC-Guy seems to feel bored. Why?
did they boo rick? u cant be serious
No I think they were chanting Goooooose
@@tikaland5353 okay okay that makes sense

damn, the crowd really doesn't like this Rick guy.
They were yelling goose, not boo lol
How much did Shapiro have to pay for this one? Woof
Just missing a great Jerry Solo. But other than that. TERRIFIC
Not really all that. Kinda like John Mayer but not as good

blah, blah....from Phil to rick....this sucks
Agreed.
