My first ever redstone contraption? Lever next to a piece of redstone dust...
+The Redstoner Mine was close, mine was a lever, some redstone wire to a lamp. Nothing was hidden, but hey, I was happy with it at the time. Now I can do that thing in my sleep. lol
+The Redstoner mine was a diamond ore trap
+The Redstoner mine was a block ofredstone right next to TNT
+Maimutescu Michael So you are a new player

***** I am using his tree farm too!
+BigKy10 I use my own tree farm because it doesn't use as many resources but I got the concept from his farms
I make redstone in steps:
1= think what I wanna make
2= think how it should work
3= start placing stuff
4=have fun
optional
make mistakes and repair them
have fun with your redstone!
I make redstone in steps as well
1=Think what I want to make
2=Place the blocks (pistons observers and stuff like that)
3=test without redstone if my concept will work
4=build redstone
5= try and compact it
I build it in these steps:
1. Try to build a 2x2 piston door or something that simple
2. Make it with no plan
3. Make is super wide and deep and long
4. Try and compact it
5. Break the redstone
6. Search for a vid to help me build it
7. Fail at copying a tutorial
8. Copy a world
I also use steps, kinda similar to yours:
1.- Think of a mechanism, and it's purpose
2.-Think the circuits I should use for said mechanism, and in what order
3.-Think of how to make said circuits
4.- If step 3 fails, look the circuits up on UA-cam
5.- If step 4 fails, ask in a forum
6.- If step 5 fails, consider the project as impossible and blow it up
1- Make something
2- Test
3- Repair
4- Repeat 2
Think what I want to make
TRIAL AND ERROR
Start getting annoyed that it won't work
EMAILING mojang asking them to change a redstone mechanic so it would work
Seth may be the king of command blocks, but after FVDisco, and CNBMincraft have kinda fallen off the map, Mumbo is definitely the king of redstone!
+Blicran

Don't forget about Fed x Gaming he's pretty good at redstone
There are way better redstoners out there
No, mumbo is the ultimate King of redstone!
Today we answer an age old question. Will it redstone?
Lmao
Lets talk about that
.
Was that meant to be a joke I did not get it
+Server 419 it's a good mythical morning joke
That is actually one of the best ways to learn almost anything. You need to analyze other's work in order to understand them. As a music producer, I learned most of my knowledge through downloading other people's project files and just seeing how things work. With dedication and hardwork, you can be a master at anything using this method.
That's exactly how I got into mechanics.
@@calimari_ And thats exactly how I got into coding.
@@brett_webber233 nice lol i code too
@@calimari_ lol same. What coding language do you use?
@@brett_webber233 I've done basic HTML and CSS, now learning Bootstrap, JS and python. Where do you learn?

Every time Mumbo shows us his redstone world there is always a glitchy horse.

The first redstoner I found was CNB. Awesome guy! I then tested around and made redstone adventure maps on the Xbox 360 way before they even came close to having hoppers, back in the day. Once I came to PC I referenced a lot of your videos Mumbo! Good times!
Yes redstone and programming. The Boolean logic! Cool and similar stuff.
+KyleKraft "back in the days" we didnt have minecraft on xbox
sure official release, but people played 2 years before minecrafts official release, so dont say Xbox360 start is being "oldschool" is wrong,(imo atleast) since some of us have been here since Indev in 2010
why is there arguments about who has been playing minecraft the longest lmao
I got good at redstone very quickly simply by adding to the same design. For example:
-my first design was a simple piston door with a lock system, utilizing a NAND gate
-I then added a password system
-I then added an alarm and a discreet design
-then I added a trap room AND several passwords
My first complicated redstone contraption was essentially a giant cobblestone farm. I was playing on the Biospheres mod, and hollowed out one of the little ore-spheres, made a farm, and then used basically nothing but pistons and repeaters to push the blocks that were created out of the sphere and into an area where I could easily harvest it. It probably wasn't the neatest contraption, and it had a tendency to stutter every now and again, but all in all it was pretty reliable, and because I used the 12-block push limit, it basically stopped itself as soon as the cobblestone was where I wanted it to be, and then continued as I was harvesting. Again, probably not the most impressive contraption, but I was really proud of it :)
Me as a noob: *piston door opens* "omg magic!!!!!". Now: *builds Redstone typewriter.*

That is not just a lesson for learning redstone circuits, but a great lesson of learning at all. It's just about understand and ask "why". Thank you so much!
You've helped me understand redstone so much Mumbo. Thanks for being awesome.
5:18 Bottom Left...
He blew one contraption there :)
I also did a 2X2 piston door first while i was experimenting with Redstone, aaah good old days :) I miss that feeling in Minecraft now :(
It's also via Redstone that i kind of got an idea how electricity works
+Bandicootmc good old days were before pistons ;)
+The Void Everyone has their own "Good old days". For someone who started in 1.4.7 like me that is "good old days". You may have started in the old alpha rd something but that doesn't mean others didn't have that phenomenon
I've watched almost all of your videos and I'm still entertained and amazed
I spent a lot of time watching this channel, and over the time I've followed it, I've had an increasing amount of people in awe of my redskillz. Many thanks to you Mumbo! :D

“I didn’t come out the womb knowing how to do redstone” this is a lie
thank you mumbo! I've learned most all of my Redstone from you!! you do such a great job! :) keep it up!!
CNB Minecraft and his "discontinued" Bat Cave inspired me. It still impresses me to this day. You remind me of CNB quite a bit, which is a big reason why I enjoy coming back to your channel. :)

I learnt that the hard way
I love redstone! Minecraft would be somewhat boring without it!
No
@@noahleek3968 it would be boring a.
May be worth popping up this video as a the recommended video on your channel page or a link on it somewhere. (Not as a auto-play video on the channel page,if possible, those are so annoying) That would give quick access to new viewers to the a small history of your learning experience and the download to help them a long when they are ready for it.
This is a really good video. Thanks for producing it.
i did never look at videos on redstone i just know how redstone worked but when i started i got so many ideas to build. i have build minecraft clock with redstone, password door with 2 buttons to 10 numbers with diplay.and one of them was a select button. and much more stuff.
Make a video on 10 redstone life hacks
Yes
Ah a fellow programmer! I knew we had something in common Mumbo :D
Mumbo Jumbo+ I want to thank you for everything. You have inspired me to build things that were awesome. Your tutorials and hermitcraft videos made me a great minecrafter today. I want to thanks you for everything. You truly are a great minecrafter.
Definitely agree with your thoughts and points here Mumbo! Glad to hear you saying that it in large part takes just lots of time and application. There are ways to learn fast, but there are no shortcuts at the same time. I (Luvren) don't think getting into full redstone inventing is for everyone, but it is tons of fun like the rest of Minecraft!
Hmm... I learned in a similar way, when I first heard about minecraft, in 2009, I was about 9, then fast forward a bit, when I did actually get the game I taught myself the basics, like how to gather resources, how to obtain certain things, where and what to find stuff, but at that time, I really wanted to learn redstone, all I knew was it was like real life house and electricity wiring, soo I began watching people build redstone contraptions, first I watched build battles, then one day on my recommend page on UA-cam came, MagmaMusen, I started watching him them realized he was a pig, in a tux! Lol I watched him do redstone, I learned from it, I knew how to do the simple wiring but I didn't understand the components of the comparator... That's it, then the day came where you and MagmaMusen did a collaboration video, the "How to Hid Your Chests" one, and I learned of a new friend, Oli here, I watched both of them and that's how I came on to this channel! And I still watch the pig in a
Tux to this day, and when I began watching Oli here, I learned so much, then I thought, "Once I understand the main components of a specific redstone build, I can break it up into pieces, and use it for my own ideas, first I started watching more people build their own redstone ideas in the form of a tutorial for beginners, such as MrCubey, Grian, uhh.....😒 durp. Then I was able to build my first true redstone design on my own, which was an automatic dog feeder, I love wolves in Minecraft, there so useful and lovable and playful, ocelots are cool to, I tame one and fence it up around my house so no creepers come..😁 so I built a dog house hooked up with a dispenser that dispenses either steak or bones depending on what time of day it was, using daylight sensors. The dog sadly didn't actually eat the dispensed food or bone but, hey you work with watcha' got! It worked perfectly for my first "on my own, build by me" redstone component, so I mainly learned redstone by MagmaMusen, Mumbo
Jumbo, and MrCubey! I Believe me, Redstone is hard to fully learn and understand, but it's all worth it in the future! 😍
(No I lied, the real reason I learned redstone is so I can troll-trap may Minecraft buddies, they don't know redstone that well, well JennyGaming does, she's better than me! So I prank her most.. once I made a diamond trap where when you mine something like a diamond, it will land on the pressure plate and extend Pistons retracting the ground below thus plummeting her into whatever I chose will be a necessary punishment, or something completely evil.. whatever floats my boat of death, either if I know she would have a lot of good valuable items on her, Lava, or if she just got some brand new armor, Tnt, and just for the sake of trolling her, creepers.. and it took me a full week to lure all of those creepers down there, 😈 but it was all worth it...I'm scared to play on that server because I know she's plotting revenge.. I know it.. 😁)

Same thing, but the video was traps.
My first redstone thingy was a 2 by 2 piston door too!
AM I DESTINED FOR GREATNESS?!
Yes
Now that, Mumbo. That is the kind of video I subscribe to you for. You're great man
Nice video, really takes you back to the roots to try and remember your own first contraptions. This actually seems like something that would've been a great idea for the 1 Mil Subscriber Special.
I think the first thing I ever tried to make was a 2x2 flush piston door. It didn't work out very well. XD
NEARLY ONE MILLION
LETS TRY TO HIT IT BEFORE THE WEEK ENDS!
Now were at 2 mil
now were at (nearly) 5 mil
How can I trim my mustace with redstone?
+Banana Gaming thx it worked
thx for the tutorial type video. Compacted my contraption from 8x5 to 4v4. :D
I had a hobby in electronics when I was young so it made it easier to delve into and understand basic redstone circuits, my first redstone circuits involved combinations of logic gates to achieve an outcome. One of my first big redstone builds involved a large number of dispensers filled with arrows that had a on/off switch and a togglable firing mode between normal and rapid fire.
From then I started watching the redstone youtubers such as GenerikB, Etho, Doc, Tango, Xisuma and yourself to learn about more elaborate contraptions that I could build using redstone. Now I mainly experiment with redstone contraptions built by others and modify them to suit my needs and add extra features that I find useful.
Where is his redstone world download?
Look at the description of the last video on the redstone advent calendar
thx
can mumbo play other games terarria ect
No plzz no
+Green Raven what about portal ???
+Bugsy “corporelaxed” Archimedes agreedo
+Finn Ohanlon portal or portal knights?
Yes for terraria (I like minecraft it's ok)
Mumbo, you inspire me to create my own little rendston world and i'm going to watch every single redstone video of yours that has to do with redstone to learn and improove!
Hey mumbo, this Sounds a LOT like my experience with redstone in the early days. I watched your videos since the beginning of your Channel and i am glad that you are still up to build redstone contraptions and teach things to the present community. I stopped making videos because there were people like sethbling, cubehamster, codecrafted and finally you that made better videos and contraptions in more enjoyable Formats. Keep it up. You deserve hornor!! Sincerly mcf

I jist can't learn it! I can't remember anything; names, how to do stuff I just can't do it god damn it! how am I supposed to learn if every website is outdated, and all I find on you tube is complicated as shit contraptions! I can't understand redstone all by teaching it myself, where should I learn?
Olie Richo Try finding someone to teach you on servers etc
you just have to start small, like, a lever next to a dot of redstone small. don't worry, you'll get it eventualy
Go to Redstoner, this is the server I learned redstone from. IP address is redstoner.com
Olie Richo it's okay redstone isn't for everyone
Love it Mumbo, thanks for the awesome advice
I started small, just playing around, my Redstone knowledge have come far, much thanks to Mumbo Jumbo. Now I more or less can read other peoples builds to see what the parts does.
Before, you were the one watching how to redstone, now you're the one who teaches it. Thanks Mumbo! What you do really helps alot of people including me!
from watching your videos I've learned how to build a password door without a tutorial while going through trial and error. your videos are great help!
Keep it up Mumbo, best youtuber ever! So classic, and English too!
+Mumbo Jumbo I too started to understand restone a lot more after taking my intro to computing class. So much more that I actually built the computer we were using inside of minecraft. In fact, minecraft restone contraptions are part of the reasons I'm studying computer engineering :D
I actually have a very similar experience, and now me and my friend has made some really cool fully automated minecart stations.
I once created a 3x3x3 door where I had a double piston extender in the middle. Didn't watch a tutorial and it took me over 4 hours to build it. It's a weird bulk mix of normal piston extendersm a double piston extender, a T-FlipFlop and two button inputs. It could be WAY compacter but I was happy with the result ans showed it to others on the creative server and they said that it was good.
Had a great time using that door and never compacted it.
Tbh, i learned from u, and also got inspired on building redstone, but some circuits are still confusing to me, so keep up!
I'm no hardcore redstoner by far, but I can understand circuits and make useful, or just hilarious farms for fun, by myself. I learned most of what I know from you when I first started minecraft.
my first ever contraption is in 2017 where i built a 1x4 not flush trapdoor but i don't know that redstone will only power things that it is running into so i don't know why the pistons won't fire and ended up of giving up,now 3 years later and i built a 5x5 seamless glass piston door
Congrats on 1000 videos 😄
for me the big thing was generikB's redstone academy series and since then and still today I'm making progress although I have been doing redstone for about 3 years and a half, but since when I started I was 12, progress is made slowly
I started doing redstone because of this channel and I absolutely love it to this day
Almost to a million!!! Keep up the redstone work!!!
Wow, mate, I recently returned to your videos since I returned to minecraft, and you were alway THE guy for the redstone... and when I actually started to listen to your video... something felt defferent... something was off. So I played a way older video from times I actually found you... and it was there! It's funny, but with that large of a pause I had your voice actually changed a bit :D And that was the thing that felt weird :)
Nice video as always :)
My first redstone creation was an actually pretty complicated elevator with a moving floor. Still one of my favorites!
3:27 I actually did that I saw redstone creations on UA-cam made them to see how they worked and now I know redstone a bit more
My first redstone build involved no redstone dust, it is a pressure plate powered iron door. My largest though is a 50x50x20 redstone house complete with lighting, doors and hidden entrances
Good Work! your soooooo close to 1,000,000 don't stop!!!
THANK YOU! :D I ALWAYS WANTED THE DOWNLOAD TO THE WORLD!
You Are the best mumbo. I Love your vids keep up the good work.
I use to watch redstone videos and contraptions like you. But I learned all my redstone skills from your channel. #ThanksMumbo !!
Thanks mumbo u really helped me maked alot of redstone things and maybe get some ideas from you😂
I'm actually currently recognizing redstone in ict lessons at school! I can imagine what you're building when hearing redstone terms in hermitcraft videos. It's really quite cool but I'm not a full on ict student so yeah... Lol it's hard, I can't get simple circuits working atm but I get the concepts
thank you for doing this!
Mumbo your the one talking about inspiration well you know what you are my in inspiration so Mumbo keep making your amazing videos and keep inspiring people to get better something tells me this channel will grow exponentially as long as you keep up the amazing work so Mumbo Know that i and many of your fans love and cherish what you bring to our lives
My first ever redstone contraption was a simple sugarcane farm with pistons and observers it was when observers first came out and I had no idea what they did so I googled it, but i didn’t really understand them until recently when I’m actually making my own desigsn
+Mumbo Jumbo did you know in the next update for mcpe 0.15.0 there will be a new piston shape, you can put lever on it sides and it can push inventory block like chests.lots of possibilities
My first redstone was a lever about 12 blocks away from a terrible house, which when clicked, blew up the house. Then I made a slime block trampoline piston and then found Grian and attempted building. It didn’t work, but I saw him working with Mumbo then saw how good he was with redstone and started checking out his channel. Now I have my own flat world and I’m trying to adapt mumbo’s builds to mcpe (bedrock). It’s REALLY hard
Couldn't agree more. As someone who spends a large proportion of their time making doors it's especially important to know the scope of projects: for a while I wouldn't try to make a new door if it wasn't going to be the smallest or something like that. Sometimes it works, but since big doors in particular are being pushed so far nowadays, to break one of these records takes months.
For example I possess the record for the smallest 8x8 door and that took 6 months to complete, or the 10x10 that I helped Sidney, G4me4u and Dico to make took months as well.
One must learn that, however much you'd like it not the be so, with redstone practice truly makes perfect and you can't expect to be amazing from day one.
Mumbo, now you are a well known Redstone teacher for many of us (including me), so thank you! 😄
You inspired people to build even more amazing things in Minecraft!
Nice! I like your method of learning it!
I learned about redstone one day and decided that i wanted to create some crazy creations like I knew other people had or would make. I began first by trying to make a PISTON elevator in xbox minecraft, didnt work too well, so i moved past that and went to make a big door, the redstone was messy and stuff but i eventually did it and learned a few basics, i started learning some circuits from online and other properties of redstone and began doing other projects all of what I know has come from online or past experience, i find the best way to learn redstone is to just use it.
LOVE YOUR VIDS!!
I knew I wasn't crazy! I knew it! The intro of your videos always invert colors!!
I was a noob at redstone thanks to mumbo I now look at his tutorials and try then do it again and again to make me memorise it
You should do a live build of a redstone contraption with. That would help show the process of how you build, and the different steps you go through.
my first redstone contraption was a two by two sliding piston door. I had two whole rooms that contained the redstone for that simple project
Loved this video. Awesome to see how you started. Making me want to make a similar video :D. Getting back to my roots

Thank you!! this was quite inspirational, to hear that you weren't just born good at redstone
My first redstone build was the classic 2x2 piston door. From there, I learned about timing and logic gates.
Great video Mumbo
On my own so hard. But cool after you have done. First joined Minecraft on 1.6 PE. Then joined redstone at 1.11.soo good.
my first redstone contraption was a contraption that when you walked over a pressure plate it caused a redstone signal with a delay to a piston hidden in a wall, this then got activated and it pushed the player off the walkway
Can u do another video about comparators pls :) I love your work btw
Almost a millions subs! Keep it up!
