- In this episode of Hermitcraft Season 10, Mumbo works on Willys Woodyard, the latest building in this Hermitcraft Seasons Mumbo mega base. This giant Minecraft woodyard build will be the Minecraft storage system for the output from all of my industrial Minecraft wood farms. We also catch up with Zedaph, and Cubfan.

Willy's spoons are definitely either terrible spoons that will give you mouth splinters, or they're the best, most intricate wooden spoons in your life
It's just nice to see Willy Jr is following in the spiritual footsteps of his father (throwing forks)
definitely the latter
Maybe both like he starts one but doesn't like it so he does it half hartedly?

There are many advantages to being Bumbopilled, shinji

Bdubs paints with oils.
Scar paints with acrylics.
Mumbo paints with watercolors.
That’s the best summary to me in how they build.
Bdubs -> Beautiful, highly sophisticated, depth, realistic feeling art even if the art itself is unrealistic. Professional artist. Every block is carefully considered and imagined, fully realized. Oil painting takes lots of development time, layers, and is highly detailed and blends the most smoothly.
Scar -> Beautiful but aimed for fun and the artwork feels more causal than a professional artist. Not professional doesn’t mean not good, just a different overall attitude and purpose. Acrylic is still very detailed, but it dries much faster and blends not as easy, lending itself to a more typical brushstroke or playful style.
Mumbo -> Capturing ideas and moods in broad brushstrokes and forms. Letting textures speak for themselves. Creating visions and impressions rather than extreme details and too much focus on realism. Watercolor is the most expressive and free flowing in its medium, letting the water influence your work, expressing its amazing texture, and making most of your artwork give impressions of what you are making without fully defining it completely and lending it to the water.
You described them perfectly

amazing description, well written! pleasure to read, thanks!
That is awesome. But who's gouache, crayons, color pencil, etc and what about sculpting?
@@yeetuspatronus1050 Well, his build is coming together, but if you asked him, Skizz would probably say he's crayons.
Chimneys absolutely belong in a wood yard to make charcoal. Charcoal production was extremely important historically.
charcoal production typically doesn't involve chimneys, because charcoal-making makes you starve the fire of oxygen.
@@ThemoonisacheesPossibly kiln drying?
As a wood worker most lumber yards have kilns for drying. They use off cuts or culled lumber for fuel. Additionally they sometimes burn sawdust. I don't think anyone besides a sawyer realizes how much saw dust milling lumber creates. I milled 1 8 foot log and ended up with 5 wheelbarrows of sawdust.
There's also incineration for wood that can't be reused because of embedded metal from nails, etc, weak pieces, wood worm and so on which can be used to heat the work space especially on cold days.

I like how when Mumbo builds a base, his thought process is step 1, build a storage system. step 2, make it look good, step 3, figure out how to live in it.
That sounds so much like him 😊
Except that this time he started with step 2 before step 1.
@@witherschatdid he though? Seems like the idea was for all of the buildings were to be his storage system, and he decided to make them look how they do. Most people build a base, then add rooms and functionality to it.
@@reckingcrew2277 He's building the decoration before making a storage system. There isn't even a single chest in the first shop, and he has already fully decorated the second. Literally building the decoration before the system.

I like to think Ron and Willy Jr. are good friends. Willy stands up on his rooftop with a cup of morning coffee and chats with Ron as he sets up to open. All of the spoons Ron uses come from Willy, and even though Willy tries to give him the spoons for free, Ron insists that he "support the business" and pays for them anyway. I can't wait to see what you add next to this lovely little area!

an idea for the path around willy (jr)'s wood shop: you can always make some sort of decking that extends out that briefly diverts the path out, almost like willy jr sees the edge and extended it out himself, but seen as he's not as good as his father, its all rickety and wonky and falling apart.
19:39 as someone who experienced the OG grumbot, oasis rooftop pool floaties, Sahara, and the Boatem hole, I can assure that was definitley NOT the weirdest business meeting Mumbo has ever had

Sometimes, I forget that Mumbo is an artist himself, with his photography and stuff. Usually redstoners lean more into technical stuff, but I'm still in awe about what he's done so far this season. He's really in the artistic mood, with the buildings, graphic design, and the concept arts :D
I never even KNEW he was so proficient in art, it's amazing!
Right! His art style is really lovely
but also his art, like his concept art, is still so technical with math going into the architecture you can still see that redstoner peeking through with his art and it's so great
Agreed! 100%
I know! The concept arts are so impressive!!
I used to run an interior design shop on a large mincraft server, and the basic premise was 'Tell me a story, and ill give you an interior.'
Making up detailed stories behind what kind of build you're doing helps SO MUCH bc you give yourself a reference to refer to whenever you have questions. What would the person living here want? How would they do this?
Im a storyteller, not an artist, but your business cards and concept art make perfect sense to me.
Man I love this transition from really linear and symmetrical buildings, to messy ones.
The new buildings really look alive. Makes me want to build that way too
Pearl and Grian learning redstone, Mumbo becoming a master builder. Season 10 has popped off
Was about to comment the same thing, but you got there first.
I really like how Mumbo's building style is growing; it's not exactly like other hermits, but it's inspired. He has his take on texture in an overly textured framework as opposed to micro-detailing, which is a refreshing building style-like a watercolor painting.
i was trying to put into words earlier what his build style is like, and this is perfect
thinking about it now it really does remind me of watercolors
just the fact that we can make such comments on his style, already shows how he has grown!
This style reminds me of an indi game called Figment.
Something to consider, finely ground saw dust tends to look a bit like sand. So if you have lumber being made on site, you could have sand about on the floor or in piles near the cutting room floor.
@ThatMumboJumbo are you interested in spoon carving? It's funny finding my completely unrelated hobby in a video 😊
(I watched your stuff a lot around 2013-2016, then life happened, but now I'm back)
A chimney would fit if Willy:
- has a kiln for drying his own timber
- makes charcoal from scraps
- bakes spoons for a darker finish
- needs to keep the shop a certain temperature to avoid warping mid-project
You could add a sign on Willy's shop that says something like "Now offering Acacia and Dark Oak!" to reference the "old" new woodtypes!
omg that's amazing
Mangrove and Cherry are seasonal, the shop swaps between which are on sale 😂
I still think of those two as the new wood types. When I first started playing, I had oak, birch, and spruce. That was ten years ago, come to think of it.
@@Chigger I started playing shortly before jungle/spruce/birch planks were added, it is still wild to me that we only had oak planks before that, they were even just called "wooden planks" even if we already had the trees for the other types. And it took even longer to have slabs/stairs/fences of the other wood types!
Lol. Like if you go to an electronic store and there's still a sign thatvsays: "Yes we have rewritable CDs!"
Mumbo you could put some empty pots (or maybe with dead bushes) on Willy's windowsills, as if he once had an idea about growing flowers and then neglected them horribly.
yes!
I ADORE THIS IDEA
oooh that would fit really well!
Yesss +++
he's got little flower pots in the concept art too just not in the build
You could put little hints that Willy knew about his sons obsession with spoons, maybe a basement workshop where Jr would feverishly carve spoons all day, and then the new business card could be Willy senior’s handwriting because he wanted to hand off his business in a way that would support his sons ambitions. Maybe like some “fancy” tools that were a gift for Jr
It's so neat to see Mumbos entire building process, from concept to concept art to material gathering and even individual block placement, each placed with careful intent. A true genius at work!
Zed's POV of sheeping: fun cowboy rodeo music, friendly competition
Mumbo's POV: dark souls boss music
For the first time I'm genuinely interested in Mumbo's base-building. The storytelling and process is so defined, and yet still so creative. In former seasons it was build left side of mega base, build right side of mega base, build top of mega base, but now each episode is a journey.
MumBob Ross
Except season 8. He was painting and story building (less than so far in season 10 but way more than other seasons). Loved his base in that season! Was so inspired and pretty!

Hey Mumbo! For Willy's sign if you want it to be a little less bright you can dye it light blue. I've found it looks like a more muted white on the mangrove signs when used with glow ink. It might go well with your copper bits too! I love these characters you're thinking of! Their personalities are really coming through in these builds :)

Give it a like so Mumbo will see!
Either light blue, or light gray might keep the readability while looking less neon

For the white on the signs, you can use light gray or gray to make them less bright, but they'll still appear white because of the glow (10:46)
This is really smart
I thought he used light gray. I'll have to check.
Edit: You're right, it was white. It sure looks light gray when he dyes it.
Was was going to suggest the same thing!
Absolutely! I think Light grey would make it look so much better and get closer to the effect mumbo was looking for without looking "lit up"
or light blue, the mangrove cancels out the blue tone and it just looks like a dull white
If the question is "Do i put glow ink on the sign", the answer is always a resounding yes.

Ron and Willie sounds like they are best friends ever since childhood and started their own businesses but still the best of friends so they decided to get their shops close together
They both sit outside the shop with a beer when it's not busy (it's usually not busy)
Ron is a little worried about Jr's business savvy, but he's happy "the kid" isn't just abandoning the shop to follow his dream, but didn't abondon the spoons just to make his dad happy.

MUMBO, don't forget your shops! If they haven't been restocked in a while, your permit might be rescinded! (Especially the case with the item frame shop)
Edit: Also an awesome build! I really like the new sketching strategy you've found.
Edit 2: this comment has gotten some likes so I'm shamelessly using it to promote my idea's about the bartering farm. The gold ingots automatically go into the bartering farm. The bartering outputs all kinds of things (preferably into a storage system). For mumbo most importantly leather and gravel. The leather can be used to craft item frames. If Mumbo also makes a bamboo farm he can autocraft that bamboo into sticks allowing itemframes to also be autocrafted. This creates AFK'able item frames when using the gold farm overnight.
The gravel can possibly be used to make a trade deal with whoever has has that permit. Mumbo can allow that hermit to use his bartering farm to get gravel for a small weekly fee, thus also 'automating' the afk'ing part of the equation.
It's even possible to make an inefficient iron farm near the gold farm to also have a small passive income of iron.
Edit 3: the current owner of the sand&gravel permit should be Scar. He's the type that would just mine it for hours, so if you (Mumbo) want someone else to AFK for you, ask him quickly before he start doing that. Though it might just be better to have Scar as far away from your farm as possible, with his reputation... 😂
I look forward to what you're going to do the shops, even if it's completely different from this comment. Good luck Mumbo!❤
I SECOND THIS
Rescinding a permit would require Grian to do actual work in the Permit Office though
He should just have half his stock be at the normal price, and make half of it stupidly overpriced. That way, if he runs out he’ll have more time to restock since not as many people will buy from the expensive one (and even if he does run out, at least he’ll become super rich from it).
He could easily set an auto-crafter to mass manufacture the item frames though. Leather from the barter farm and sticks from a bamboo farm. (Mumbo hasn't made a bamboo farm, but it's a suggestion)
technically the piglin bartering could also provide iron nuggets and he could just set up an autocrafter system to compact them into ingots and then blocks
I feel like literally all the hermits are stepping up their build game and its amazing to watch.
Mumbo’s concept art is super gorgeous! Like, the story you can glean from so little, the rendering created with the small brush strokes, it’s beautiful. Sometimes I forget he’s an artist (photography and film), but the reminder is so good.

Not having much room for a path is actually really good! If you've ever been to the seven sisters or beachy head, the erosion of the cliffs means there are literally paths leading over the edge. It adds to the story that your shops are old and the river beneath is causing the cliff to collapse. Love what you're doing this season!

Mumbo an idea you should think about is having each of your "shops" having a villager "running" the shop. I think it could make it feel more alive
It might just be me, but it looks like Willy’s building is leaning against Ron’s, almost like it’s giving it a hug, and I love that. It adds a lot of character to the builds and has the implication of Willy being a kind of “big brother” to Ron.
