  • This month I've been learning a new instrument. I can already play guitar and piano so I decided to learn something new with the Bamboo Saxophone and cover the jazz piece Take Five by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. I set the bar at learning the first minute of the song and it took me 7 hours and 38 minutes to record a decent take.

      saxaphone player here, thing is I've never heard of the wooden sax before, and from the looks of it the mouth piece is completely different. it's quite possible you're meant to play it in the same fashion as a normal saxaphone, but i don't see how.

    • @francoisdemeule8897
      @francoisdemeule8897 6 років тому +12

      yep he did, and since he only practice those particular notes, it doesnt mean he learned the instrument, if he would try another partition, it would be as hard of a challenge in my opinion, he also those some errors while practicing, and doesnt use the right technics, but i got to give him a tip of the beanie to acheive that in under 9 hours, as learning a wind instrument from scratch is quite hard, especially if he wants to get rid of all the blurry and squeaky sounds...

    • @MrAdravix
      @MrAdravix 6 років тому +3

    Did you individually breathe between every note cause that's what it looked like and that is a great way to pass out. The way you separate notes on a wind instrument is to tongue them with a special syllable depending on your articulation of the note. I have no idea what the syllables would be on that because I play euphonium which is a brass instrument so it has quite different ways to articulate than a wood wind. Also just as a random side note, the euphonium I played my freshman year of high school had 3 valves so, yes, 3 valve euphoniums do exist.

    That's majorly impressive! I've been playing the (regular) saxophone for about 10 years or so. I see so many people at your level of skill who have been playing for multiple years on end, so it is truly impressive to see how far you've come in just a couple of hours. My biggest piece of advice that I happened to see while watching (which I think can make playing a lot more intuitive) is to tongue the notes. I noticed that while playing you would blow each note separately, and basically, the point of tonguing is that you use your tongue to temporarily stop the airflow to distinguish the notes. I think it could make the whole playing process potentially a lot more enjoyable too.

      That probably explains why he couldn't play for more than 20 minutes at a time. Playing with your bottom lip out like that will surely tire you out quicker than with it tight.

      This is the same as a recorder.. use "duds" or "tuts".. and the fingering system is pretty easy.. i learnt all the notes in just 20mins of the recorder... but u need months of practice to get speed, etc

    Just found your channel through another site.
    It is damn impressive how fast you have picked up the saxophone, I remember myself putting hours upon hours into Take Five to master it.
    Now luckly I do but I actually rarely play it anymore.
    That bamboo sax however, that is a really nice piece of kit.
    Anyway I'm gonna check your channel out for new content from now on and hit you a Like my good man.
