Thank you. Grandma Sat me in the chair by the window of sun light. then she showed me how to chain first, then how to make a Granny square at age 7. then when I turned 12 she showed me all the different crochet stitches and how to read a pattern. Wow what a neat thing for her to do. All my life I have had the pleasure of crocheting.

Thank you for the lesson. Being a lefty it’s harder to teach. I have done afghans in the past. When we were selling our house I had them on my beds. The realtor told my husband to take them off the bed as they look like grandma’s. My husband said, “my wife is a grandma!” We did remove them.

Granny Squares were wildly popular in my world in the late 1960s and 1970s. I could never really get the hang of it.
With your tutorial and 40+ years behind me I think I can crochet along with you. Thank you for a basic tutorial and renewed inspiration!
    Stay well and stitch on!

I usually don’t comment, but that is lovely! You should do a watercolor of that memory. I am not a watercolor artist, but I painted a scene from my childhood memory of my neighbor stooped in her garden. She used to leave washed cherry to,stores on the porch for me in a little bowl for a little snack so I wouldn’t get into trouble going in and out of the house, circa 1960. I painted it and thought it was terrible and put it away, but during the pandemic, I found it and loved it so much I found a frame and matted it and now it’s in a place in our home and I smile every time I see it. Your memory made me smile. Don’t we all try to do that? Lovely. Thanks to all of you.

Thank you so much for keeping these handwork traditions alive. I learned how to crochet from my great-grandmother when I was nine and have been crocheting ever since.🥰
I used to teach crochet for a chain store, but since nobody wanted to learn, they kinda didn’t promote the classroom anymore.

Thank you for your time in teaching new and old new tricks with crochet. I like the way you do your starter chain. I am going to practice that. It looks like it is such a smootj chain. The granny square was my first block and first experience in learning to crochet. An experienced crocheter who was also a beautician taught me. Such a patient, sweet lady. I made quite a few large granny squares after that. Learned other stitches from other older ladies. I was in my mid twenties and now will be 72 on election day. I was blessed and eager to learn. Love watching your other podcast with Fat Quarters show and flosstube.👍♥️

This is going to be an awesome series. My mother-in-law taught me to crochet when I was pregnant with my first child. I haven’t crocheted in ages. This brings back great memories as the first crochet I did was a giant granny square that became a huge floor pillow! Thank for bringing back these almost lost arts! ❤️

This is great, Lori. I love that you have a 100% cotton yarn! I have been crocheting since I was a little girl too (a long, long time ago) and I have picked up two tips right off the bat. Looking forward to this series along with the quilting. I've even started cross stitching again. All the things that make for happy hands. Thank you.

Thank you Lori for showing how to crochet granny squares. Sad to say but have never been able to learn to crochet even with numerous people trying to teach me. I can knit but not crochet. I will continue to watch your series though. Actually think I have a box of granny squares that my mother crocheted. She and my grandmother both excelled at that. Maybe some day!

Oh my goodness! Lori, that yarn wall makes me so happy! All those colors! My Grandmother taught me to crochet when I was a child. I learned sitting in her lap placing my hand on top of her hand. To this day, I hold my hook on top. The granny square was my first finish. I made a big granny square Afghan. Crochet has been my favorite hobby for 50 years. Thanks for sharing❤

It is so relaxing to watch you crochet. I am so envious of your talent and the patient way you introduce us to the art. I have tried many times to do this beautiful granny square through the help of others that can crochet easily. Your instruction is so clear. I have a hard time distinguishing where holes are and how to enter and twist my hook. I guess the key is practice. I am going to try it again! Thank you for your inspiration, color, tools and product lines! I am a grandma who yearns to teach the next generation the joy of working with your hands.💖🧰🛋🧷✂️

Talk about perfect timing! 🥰 My mother crocheted, but I never got the chance to learn from her. 😢 I quilt & cross stitch. I saw a video on crocheted pumpkins and I just had to make them! My sister, who did learn to crochet from our Mom, came over and gave me some basics. I made my pumpkins, they're not perfect, but that's ok! 🎃 This series could not have come at a better time for me! Have spent this evening with your tutorial and finished my first block -- this is a great tutorial and the squares are addictive. Have you considered adding purple and violet to your thread colors? The new Calico line of fabric is beautiful. Also watched the mixed video, with the little flowers...loved it. Thank you for your enthusiasm and encouragement.

What a difference the yarn makes. I couldn’t understand why my squares looked bigger. After this video I realized you used cotton yarn; I used acrylic. I like the cotton much better. Also the blocking makes the granny square much neater looking. In fact earlier tonight I ordered a blocking board from Amazon. Oh Lori I can’t wait to start ordering your yarn. I can’t say it enough how beautiful and happy it is. 💜gayle

But I think I may try again to see if I can do it because I love the Granny Squares. I also had a wonderful grandma who taught me to crochet, embroidery, and needlework. She tried to teach me to tat but I always wound up with the knots in the wrong places. She and my mom both made Granny Square afghans and I remember loving them. I’m excited for this series. I’ve crocheted since I was a little girl too. I’ve never liked granny squares, not because of how they look bus because I hated connecting them! I hope you show us that too. I’ve never blocked, maybe that’s why I had trouble joining them? And if you block your squares then join them and then wash the project, like a throw blanket that’s been used on the couch, doesn’t it all lose its shape again?

I was thinking when you were making your square... how do you get those points on your square like that. I gave up years ago because It seemed like everything I made just rolled up. No one ever showed or told me about blocking. I'm so upset right now, but so excited because now I want to try again. I always felt like such a failure. lol. I think a big Afghan of the granny squares is going to be my goal. And those pompoms!!! Noooooo. lol. my great Aunt was a freak about them. I swear she put them on EVERYTHING she made. Great Tutorial as always. Looks like I'll b digging out crochet hooks 2day. Take Care. Be safe.

I didn’t know I could change the video speed on UA-cam. Thanks for telling me!! That’s so great. Also, thanks for this demonstration. I’ve always wanted to make an afgan like on Roseanne 😉
