Before I say anything regarding "the worm" I'm glad you are still around and keep doing your videos. Keep up the great work. 18:23 just put sorters at the side where your refineries will be and let them pull ores to a cargocontainer or directly to a refinery. so you can connect the drills directly to the pistons/ conveyer junctions and tehy won't fill up your welders. you could turn on "share inertia tensor" for the "lifters" to get pretty much rid of that wobbling and you're good to go. Edit: forgot something
Two words: Conveyor Sorters. You'll be able to force all the stone back into a few large cargo containers. I'd highly recommend having at least 6 of them, and have two Sorters pulling the ore while the top lift arm is free flowing into the welders. Obviously, make a few refineries breaking that stone down into iron with a couple separate large cargo containers for a ingot overflow that has a conveyor sorter pulling the ingots out of the refineries. Then have a few assemblers producing your components with a conveyor sorter pulling the built components into another couple large cargo containers. You're going to get a royal shit ton of stone when drilling it, the faster you can pull that stone away from the head, the better. Also, try using the Shared Inertia Dampers for the whole built. Should make it very sturdy as well increase the power the pistons can push, but not too much or Lord Klang with smite you. Good luck and happy engineering
I think he could get away with only 3 sorters, placed where there are currently junctions, next to the welders. They would prevent stone from getting into the welders, only allowing components through.
You need to set Share inertia tensor in all your pistons, next you probably need to increase the impulse non axis on all of them, its a bit of trial and error. That will help with both stability and get ride of the bend. An alternative solution will be rebuild the aparatus, but this time putting a conveyor in between each piston and merge each set of pistons in one grid, like this: imgur.com/5Etnkuh but even then you will need the share inertia tension activated in each piston. For the stone clogging the welders, you can use filters to allow only components being able to reach the welders and filters on the base pulling rock into refineries or containers. Or you can use a separated circuit using a combination of collectors on the base side and ejectors on the drill side.
Love your videos! Edit: continued to watch "I know im pretty late to the party, but the reason it was sagging so bad is because each of the drills were full of stone adding tons of weight to the head."
cool video, cant wait to try to make one of these. I have been away from the game for a bit and am about to get back into it. Something that would help for us old folks that forget things all the time is when you do things like change colors and textures if you could just do a quick mention of the key you pressed to open the color and texture screen that would be cool. "Lets change the color real quick with f10" or what ever key it really is :)
I hope you figured it out in the six months since posting. Obvious method to prevent ore from going into welders, is filter blocks between the piston end conveyor junctions and the center group of junctions. Replace one of the plain tubes with a filter. Blacklist the ores, permit everything else. Neat build, I'm going to have to try something like that sometime.
I'm pretty sure you don't need that many drills. Each drill has a digging area that is bigger than the actual drill head. You can get by with just using every other drill and offsetting each row so from the front, the drills are in diagonal lines with single block between them.
When I tried spacing on large drills I got voxels in between. 4 drills in a 3x3 setup with cockpit in middle, did not work 😔 Seems small drills, drills in a larger aoe than its larger counterpart.
I have noticed you flying around and accessing the control pads on separate devices. wouldn't it be more efficient to use a control seat and make all the individual mechanisms into Groups and have control of all groups at your fingertips? also avoiding any unnecessary dying from running out of hydrogen for your Thruster pack!
These days you can place and build 2 merge blocks right next to each other. However, you need to turn the existing merge block off, before you can place the second block.
i tryed for 12 hours to get it to work everything goes great untill i connect the merge block,s, then i turn the ouside merge blocks off and they just don,t let go and stick together. when i remove the piston head that is attached to the merge block, it starts to move again..... am i doing something stupid or has there been a update? (this is in survival mode).
@@amshermansen I've not played for a few years, just got back in. Uranium was always one of the first things I mined when I landed; is it not in planets anymore? I suspected, since I haven't found any yet, only a few hours in, though.
@@amshermansen yech. Well, alrighty then. I've found wind to be a fantastic substitute for early nuclear, so I'm happy. Though this new landing pod with survival module instead of full lander with refinery and assembler has taken quite an adjustment, lol. It's a whole new game :P
Super pissed off at this game. Was building a similar thing to this to get ore for my tether and got the builder section done. Started working on the drill head... fucking PCU limit.
Drills are full of stone and heavy!
I would add wheels to help the miner roll along as it extended
I like the star trek online part in the intro XD

PS: He figured it out the very next episode, I feel dumb for the necropost >_>'
You can use Ctrl+MWheel to change the distance parts are placed from you.
The weight of the drills were fine, after mining the stone I'm surprised that only three pistons were able to hold 700k+ stone on that first test

The solution is pretty simple and everyone will see it in the next video. Good advice.
Conveyor sorters to move the drilled material to a huge array of containers at the rear ?
Love your videos!

tip i learned from splitsi, press j to look for projecters as they are the only block with a j in

The area isn't what's important. The more drills, the faster it digs. Nice try though

Could void (or not even collect it) some of the stone, since u will get so much u wont need it all
You could of use some wheels behind the drill heads between the welders

"more circular"? rotor?
Ejectors to keep the weight off
I cannot connect the arms to the junctions at the center, can anyone help me?
mate, good tutorials!!!!!!
There is too much material in the drill heads...figure out how to keep them from filling!
Why did you take off the front part from the last episode, made me build it for no point

Correct. As of a specific patch version, Uranium isn't found on planets or moons anymore. Gotta go hunt for it. :)
