As a (straight) 87 year old retired Marine I find it amazingly wonderful that after the years of feeling alone and not who you really were, you had the courage to go through this extensive surgery and exhausting recovery to become the absolutely beautiful young lady that I now see on the screen. May you live and love forever and enjoy who you've become.
I’m biologically female and this is extremely interesting. You’re awesome for being so comfortable talking about this! I’m sure it’s helping many people considering the same.
hey, just wanted to note that it's generally kinder and more respectful (and more accurate) to make a distinction between "cis female" and "trans female" rather than "biologically female" and... "unnaturally/artificially female"? see what i mean? the implication of the second comparison is that we as trans women aren't really female, which we absolutely are.
Hey yeah that makes tons of sense! Because you are biologically female, it’s just your body’s sex isn’t aligned with your gender hence the transition. If I’m understanding it right? However for myself, I don’t consider myself to be cisgender so I wouldn’t call myself that. Therefore I said biologically female as in I was born with female sex organs/anatomy, and I’m fascinated by how far surgery has come to give someone in the opposite position something close to what I was born with. Is there another term that could be used to say “I was born with female anatomy” that isn’t also including an identifier like cis? I appreciate your reply to me, it definitely helped me learn something!
@@Davrainbow hi! thanks so much for your reply! :) sorry for the assumption, didn't realise you weren't cis! i would then recommend something like "afab" (assigned female at birth), if you feel like that fits you! there's other options though, and i don't want to tell you how to identify yourself, just wanted to provide a little perspective before!! as for your other question, i would say yeah, you're understanding right! many trans women do transition with hormones and surgeries in order to manifest female sex in our bodies, give ourselves "female biology", so to speak. many trans women don't choose to transition medically, though, and in my view they are still female, because they are women. i usually also like to point out that the way that modern colonial medicine assigns sex to bodies is not a perfect reflection of biological reality, but really an intersection between biology and ideology. so just because this society says someone with a penis, for example, must be male, it doesn't mean that's fully true! that's just this society's interpretation of the reality of the body. does that kind of make sense? it's hard to explain in a youtube comment lol, i could write (and am writing) whole books on this!!! i guess an example of this would be that i, as a trans woman, had hormone levels closer to a cis woman than a cis man, even before starting HRT, and this is a very common thing (more common actually among AFAB/transmasc people, though), so my body was biologically different from typical male bodies, but i was still lumped in with them because the ways this society measures sex weren't nuanced or advanced enough to catch that i was different.
I can’t believe in all the research I’ve done on gender I didn’t realize that AFAB is the correct descriptor! Yes that absolutely applies to me. I don’t identify with my assigned gender at all, found that I’m more of a non-binary person than anything but I’m also not considering making any physical changes yet, so I didn’t want to put that label on myself, though I realize like you said, your identity is still valid even if you decide not to make any changes due to whatever the reasons may be. Thank you for reminding about that! That’s extremely interesting as well. I’m glad you were so cool about this and explained it 😊 I hope that your journey is going well, too.
I totally understand the part about not missing "it" because it never really belonged there. People often ask "but wouldn't you miss it?" Hells no, I didn't want it to begin with.

John Black I am a straight female and I too was blessed enough to find Maya’s channel. Like you, I’ve always been curious about the trans community. In my lifetime I’ve known 2 trans females. This was years and years ago. Things were hush hush and never spoken about. But, I’ve learned so much from Maya that I want to share with other people. People without gender dysphoria ( I refuse to say normal, bc really... what n who is normal) need to understand and show compassion, not judge or ostracize. Great comment. Thank you!!! I just love her to pieces.
You literally made me cry at 12:07 so awesome you have someone in your life you can be that close with and who supports you. Thank you for your candour , frankness and openness with all of us in what is a very personal matter. I also think you handle the details very well. I didn't think I would be able to watch these post-op videos at first because I'm always squeamish about any kind of surgery and stuff like that, but you do it in a way that is personal and informing and I haven't experienced anything like that when watching these. I think you are very brave and inspiring for going through this procedure and just want to let you know I am thankful you are sharing this and that I am happy for you! Looking forward to your next video.
I'm so glad everything is going well for you, and you have igor by your side to support you through this time. The two of you together are such a great couple. Take care.
What I admire most about you is your courage. And your determination to live your life being true to yourself. Although I'm on the other side of the world, and just a normal anonymous guy I just wanted to say congratulations on your success in your transition and best wishes for the future. Much respect!
As a biological woman who has had vaginal surgery and has to dilate as well, I really appreciate this video. Long story short, I may never be able to have sex unless I have yet another surgery and continue to dilate even more. The emotional weight I carry due to this physical issue is freaking heavy. I absolutely love that you're so open about your surgery and recovery. I know it's not exactly the same situation, but it makes me feel less alone.
@Kit Cat some people have issues with depth, it's nothing to be ashamed of. Also, Maya is a woman too (albeit a trans one). Both cis and trans women can have depth issues
@Kit Cat feed the troll………………. It? Your words say a LOT more about you than they ever would say about anyone trans. Some cis woman and intersex woman have differences from the norm and need surgeries and need to dilate. Some people who have cancer and have some parts / cervix removed. Lots of reasons. If you are gonna troll, then at least try and give a valid argument.

Hey lady! Been a while since I've caught one of ur vids - had no 8dea u were doing the surgery but glad to hear it went/is going so well! I can just imagine the mental weight that has been lifted like u mentioned - so happy for u!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and expect you are moving on well. My SRS is a little over 1 month out. Hoping for full depth at age 71. Wish I could have done it decades ago. But we didn’t talk about these things. So grateful my health allows me to now. Have listened carefully to your narrative.. it assures me now about what I am heading for, finally.
I am very relieved to hear things are going so well for you. The complexity and radical nature of such a surgery is rather terrifying to me, not to mention the potential complications that could happen. Clearly this experience has been an overall beneficial one for you despite the pain and disruption to your normal life. And you don't have to worry about "tucking" anymore, so it is all to the good. 🙂

They way you described your pre-op body "not adding anything to your life" REALLY resonated with me and I've never thought about dysphoria while trying to embrace your body in those words. Thank you for this wisdom as I pursue this surgery

The drain is a compression bulb drain. When the bulb is compressed, the pressure helps to keep blood from pooling in the surgical site. These are usually emptied every shift or as needed, & the drainage amount & characteristics noted in the nurse's notes area of the patient's record. (Jackson-Pratt silicone bulb drain.)
For about a decade or so when I was questioning my gender identity was I knew of trangender was but I didn't know about bigender/non-binary. Hence, with myself being the latter, it took longer to figure out my gender identity.
Thanks for sharing your progress with us! On a side note though, you might wanna look into using Bromelain (a pineapple enzyme, sold as an OTC supplement) to speed up your recovery process (it significantly speeds up wound/cut healing times, as well as reduces inflammation) and is typically taken 3 to 4 times a day on an empty stomach (1x500mg at a time) I've taken it quite a few times before for various injuries and it definitely makes a huge difference! Without it, things just heal very slowly.
Thanks for sharing your story, it's hard to understand what you've been through, but your being so open and honest really helps me to understand this. Wish you the best, be strong!
Thank you so much for sharing all of these updates Maya, I have been watching and waiting with anticipation for the videos you've been posting pre and post surgery. My surgery with Dr Brassard was 7 days ago! I can't believe that it has been done, it feels surreal and my entire time at the convalescent home also feels surreal. Everything is awake you have to wait all this time for this and then all this time for that and now it's one week past I don't understand how that is even happened and I'm still wondering if it's all real. But trying to get up or sit down and reminds me that it's all real. So with you being about 7 weeks ahead of me I love learning what I have to look forward to. I do have the rest of my life to look forward to and that's pretty amazing.

@@Madcaps7615 thanks for the kind comment. You sound like a very thoughtful and interesting person. 😊☮️✌️
Take care.
You were very inspirational in my coming out. I want you to have the best life possible!! Thank you so much for sharing with us. 💜
Wow, thank you!! Congrats on your coming out, and living your truth! 🥰
Congrats girl I'm so happy for you..I'm glad your doing good with your recovery. You are amazing.
What I admire most about you is your courage. And your determination to live your life being true to yourself. Although I'm on the other side of the world, and just a normal anonymous guy I just wanted to say congratulations on your success in your transition and best wishes for the future. Much respect!
I am a bio female Grandma from Texas and I love you. Glad you are recovering well. Wishing you love and happiness in the future.
@Kit Cat please stop, if someone wants to be called she or her or what ever pronoun, why can't you just be respectful of that?
@Kit Cat you are sad, and pathetic for even coming into this space and attempting to turn it into something other than what it truly is- Beautiful!
@Kit Cat if you read it properly, it tells you. Don’t be so brazen and show your ignorance. It doesn’t suit you. X
So fascinating! I’m always interested in medical procedures, but the best part of this one is that you finally feel comfortable in your own skin. Such a beautiful thing! I’m very happy for you! Your boyfriend sounds like one of the good people on this earth. 🥰👍🏽
Thank you 🙏🏼💗
@Kate Wolf
Why are you taking my positive comment and making it negative? 🤔
@Kate Wolf
Thanks. You’re probably right. I don’t trust most men, so I did imply that when I said he was one of the few. Unfortunately, I’m going to stand by that statement. 😁
Can never go wrong playing it safe. You have good judgement skills.
Congratulations so far - I'm so happy for you! Thank you for sharing your journey - I'm sure younger transgenders will learn from your experiences and have an easier time dealing with their own personal realities, whichever way they go. You rock!
I’m too invested in this. I can’t wait until the “I’m fully healed and this is how I feel now” video
I heard the smell is like old hotdog water. 😩 🌭🚰
Watching this video and seeing how happy you feel is so wonderful. It's an infectious happiness. Thank you for sharing with us.
OMG you are so Brave to Share....You Go girl...stay strong and always be kind with yourself...
Thank you 🙏🏼♥️
Your r a beautiful woman. I am sure u r helping many people because of how opened and transparent you r in discussing the entire process.
202 is a crap year for most. Your journey is a success story. Continue to seek your true self, and enjoy the continued discovery.
Even if you can only adopt, I am sure you would make a great mom.
Yes she would.
@@thegreenmanalishiyamadori371 right, cos only trans women get silicone boobs. WTH. And af course, ALL cis women breastfeed their babies.
@@ninakrajco3169 no need for the 'even'. Adoption is not a lesser way of making a family :)
@@thegreenmanalishiyamadori371 hey hunz, with estrogen takings the breasts grow naturally, hope you learned something new today!
@@rorysizer8076 That is certainly true.
I;m super happy for you, Maya. You deserve all the happiness you can get. Congratulations and keep up the great work with your videos.
It's glad to hear you have now a sense of relief and feel conected to your body. It's done princess! You made it! Sending you my love.
Thank you 🙏🏼
@@Mayavhenry by the way you have a very cute and sexy way to open your nostrils at times when you talk. 🥰 He, he... You are so lovely. Thank you too for letting the people who love you here like me, know how you are doing. 💖
You are my first like
You are my first choice
I started watching your videos a long time ago and I just want to say you’re amazing!! I’m glad you are doing well❤️
Welcome back Maya.
You look amazing.
All the best 😊
I just really wanted to say as a closeted trans women, ty for being so open about everything and honest about your journey, It’s helping me a lot with just being more comfortable with my own identity before I start doing physical changes, ty for just being you
To be honest I was really worried about you and I'm so happy to see you're cheerful again! I got the feeling you were feeling down about it and I've read so many stories of post surgery depression. I think it's pretty common for many reasons but how you get through it is really something that will define who you are as a person and help anyone grow. I'm fairly new on my journey but love your content and your videos give me hope and inspiration that I can achieve my goals.
Hey lady! Been a while since I've caught one of ur vids - had no 8dea u were doing the surgery but glad to hear it went/is going so well! I can just imagine the mental weight that has been lifted like u mentioned - so happy for u!
You’re looking absolutely beautiful. I’m glad things are going well for you.
You’re taking such good care of yourself, so proud of you and grateful that it’s all working out so well. You have such a glorious vibe! Such an inspiration! 🙏🏻💕🌻
Thank you for sharing yourself so generously🌈💜🌻
Thanks for sharing your experiences !! I’m just a cis girl but this is really interesting and I really appreciate being able to learn and understand what others go through during this surgery 💕
Thank you Margo 💕
They way you described your pre-op body "not adding anything to your life" REALLY resonated with me and I've never thought about dysphoria while trying to embrace your body in those words. Thank you for this wisdom as I pursue this surgery
I've been watching you since I started my transition 3.5 years ago. You sharing your experiences on UA-cam gave me the courage to start my transition. I'm also currently waiting to get the phone call from GRS Montreal for my surgery date. Thank you for filming videos about such a personal experience, definitely helping me mentally prepare for this huge step in my transition. I'm scared, nervous and so excited. Thank you so much for bringing clarity to such an intense process of transitioning. I'd love to meet you one day lol just thank you for having the courage to share this on social media, you've helped me so much xoxo
So happy for you! I've watched your transition for years and it not only has been very educational but also inspiring! Thank you for putting all this on the internet, I can only imagine how helpful it would be to other trans people.
Thank you for being very informative and for explaining your experience with the surgery in such a comforting way. It gives my mind more ease as I prepare for my own surgery. Hopefully mine won't have complications. Thank you for helping me feel that I'm not alone ❤❤🤗
You always come across as such a positive person and beautiful at that I hope everything works out well for you, oh and you are so courageous too xx
"No girl, you're good you don't have to worry about that anymore " something about that meant a lot to. You finally live in the body that gets closer and closer to who you really are.💕💕💕
maya , you literally made my dayyyy 💕.
Aw thank you gorgeous 🙏🏼💗
You should be able to say what you wanna say, that’s so shitty. Everyone watching you loves you and is in your corner :)
I’m so happy for you, I’m so glad you’re feeling free ☺️☺️
I'm 2 days, honestly when I first saw it I flipped the heck out! It's tuff to look at it and cleaning it, it totally changes your whole mind.
Thank goodness I have your videos to get me through it
Congrats Girl! It's great you have great support and a wonderful man at your side.
I live w/o a stomach, partial intestines, gallbladder and a few other things. I studied Anatomy & Physiology and am still blown away about what a body can endure! Don't be apologetic about being a bit of a hypochondriac 🖐 me too!
Wishing you Happy Holidays and continued healing!
So happy for you sis you living your authentic life
🙏🏼💗
So happy for you Maya hope you continue heal nicely. thank you for the video. Oh will you be doing a video how the process has affected your boyfriend. It would be interesting to know how he feels. Thanks again
Hello from Australia. I think you are amazing Maya. So brave and so kind to share your journey. Much love to you. 💕
Without it, things just heal very slowly.
so happy for you that you are healing nicely yuou are really glowing can't wait to see your videos. sending mum hugs and love your way
Thanks for sharing your story, it's hard to understand what you've been through, but your being so open and honest really helps me to understand this. Wish you the best, be strong!
I wonder what the smell is like? 😩
You're so classy! Can't wait for more life follow-ups!
Thank you!! 🙌🏼
Maya, you're such a poised and elegant, well-spoken person! I've been watching you for years and I'm genuinely SO happy for you
When I watch fellow trans siblings getting their surgeries and becoming more themselves, I get a bit 🥺💖🥰💕
Aw, so sweet 💗🙌🏼🥰
I'm sooo happy for you sis !! 🤗 I had the op in Thailand last year and life is just so much better afterwards.
Congrats! 🙏🏼💗
Thank you for the update. I'm glad you are doing better and I must say you are looking great. I saw that heckler in chat and it sucks there have to be assholes everywhere but you were strong and didn't stutter or make a single mistake. You go girl 👏 👧 🙌 💪
You should write a book about this. You speak incredibly well btw.
Your words are well thought out!!
I am so glad that this is working out well for you. It is nice for any person to have the physical presence that can accommodate what they wish to achieve in life. In a way it is unfortunate that you have had to take such a long journey to get to where you are today. Although as viewers to your channel we gain the benefit, of your observations and what you have shared with us. Thank you for your perspective and wisdom. As a person who has had the privilege of being born with and benefiting maturation in a physical manifestation of my gender aspirations etc, you sharing your experiences with me has helped me gain perspective and respect for those who have taken your path. Best wishes and thank you for sharing
I love you babe your amazing sending you positivity ,protection and rapid healing
I'm glad you are healing well. I hope the rest of your recovery is a speedy one. You are amazing. ❤ ya, Maya. 😘
So happy for you Maya for your successful surgery and the relief you now feel being more comfortable with your body. It is wonderful that your family and boyfriend Igor are loving and supportive when you need it the most.
Best of luck with your continued healing. Please continue updates when you feel up to it. We are all here to love and support you!🤗🤗🤗
You came up on my feed because I find the subject very curious. We all have hurdles in this life. Glad you didn't have serious complications. Time goes by fast. Before you know it you will reach your goal. I think you have very strong spiritual beliefs because angels watch over you. Best wishes.
Thank you 🙏🏼💗

Glad to hear you are doing better each day! Blessings for a Happy Holiday Season!!
The drain that I saw from when you were in the hospital is known as a JP drain (Jackson Pratt drain). They are used in many different surgeries. (I am a Registered Nurse, Retired now. ) Thanks again for all the open and honest talk. You are amazing and so beautiful inside and out. God bless and I hope the rest of your recovery goes well.

You look amazing, sis! The best of luck for you!
A great mom, that is for sure.
Congratulations, Maya. You deserve this!
I’m 34 days postop, and I resonate so much with the self-consciousness part about my previous anatomy. It’s such a freedom to be accepting of one’s own body.
your hair looked very pretty in this nideo, you are always so put together
I'm so happy for you! You're journey has helped me so much. I start hrt next week and plan to have bottom surgery in 2022. You're such a positive and genuine person, I wish you the best with your recovery. 💖
