@@LoveKillFear777 I have seen Van Gool's Bambi which is a children's book adaption of the original novel but its a pity that the original novel never got a faithful animated adaption in the 20th century by Filmation (Which also made Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night) or by any other studio.
For del Toro's Bambi it could be set in Austria during 1935 and be a drama coming of age story faithful to the original novels.
I always love it when live-action directors with gorgeous visual aesthetics (like Guillermo Del Toro, Wes Anderson, George Miller, Gore Verbinski, etc.) jump into animation. It’s wonderful to see what they can do with even less restraint and more visual expression. ❤️
he should. He's good at animation. I've only saw Mama (2013) which he was another one of his great movies. but i love the animation style of this.
the blue fairy's design is based on a biblically accurate angel.
One thing I really like about this is that we actually get to spend time with the son before his death. They could have so easily just left it at 'He had a son who died at some point', but no, they really take the time to establish their relationship, allowing the death to hit much harder.

Guillermo Del Toro is the director/writer of Pan's Labyrynth. He loves fantasy but with the proper amount of darkness. And this movie took several years to be made. He loves it
There are many little details in this film that are fun callbacks to the original book from 1881
- Gepetto's son being named Carlo is a reference to the author of the original story, Carlo Collodi
- The Black Rabbits that carry deceased ones to the afterlife were in the original book
- Pinocchio burning his feet off happened in the classic story
- Instead of a whale like in Disney's adaptation, the sea-beast is a giant dogfish
Also worth mentioning is Sebastian getting squished by a hammer.
I like the changes and references they made in this movie from the original book.
Count Volpe and Spazzatura not only play the roles of the Stromboli character (and assistant) but they also double as The Fox and Cat characters. You can also tell in the characters' designs, like Volpe's hair kinda looking like fox ears, and his name literally meaning fox.
Sebastian the cricket getting smashed repeatedly in this movie is a reference to how, in the original book, Pinocchio kills him with a hammer, and the cricket follws him around as a ghost, but not constantly though.
Candlewick's father somewhat plays a role similar to The Coachman and the army camp replaces Pleasure Island. As a matter of fact, the boys putting on gas masks can probably be seen as the 'turning into donkeys' thing.
Hands-down this is probably the best version of Pinocchio there is. I would argue it’s even better than Disney’s Pinocchio.
I think my favorite part about this whole thing is the fact that he didn’t turn into a legitimate human boy at the end, it’s for him to act like one. And he managed to do that, and that’s what the story was all about, not necessarily, actually having flesh and blood , because the whole story as he can be at a real boy, even without a real body
Netflix has done and continues to do many wrong things. But credit given where earned, if it weren't for them, this masterpiece of a movie may have never existed.

All of them are so perfectly cast and give amazing performances.
I love that when they were working together on Nightmare Alley, Cate Blanchett asked to be a part of Del Toro’s Pinocchio, but he said the only role available was the monkey, to which Cate enthusiastically said YES. She even based her vocalizations on Del Toro. Lol

Now that's a Pinocchio movie. It was released on December 9 at Netflix and it was my birthday. The best birthday present ever

The songs at first didn't strike me as that catchy but even after finishing the movie and going to work i keept hearing the melody softly and i couldnt stop thinking about the movie i emidiately rewatched it. The songs are not catchy but they have definetly burrowed themselves deep into my heart especially ciao papa great video as always!
this movie WRECKED ME!! 💕 the songs, the melody, the lyrics, the way its sung 😭 .... the arc of gepetto learning to love again, but loving pinocchio just as he is. the animation!!! the dolls. just gorgeous and so full of lessons 💕 and if you already have someone in your life you miss, for me, my dad with dementia... it hits so much harder 😭

Thrown in jail, almost got fried and eaten alive by this green dude, was sold to a circus as a donkey, became lame and was whipped.
In hindsight not a good book for me to read as a young kid Lmao.
The guy who bought him when he was a donkey wanted to drown him so that he wouldn't have to kill him himself and then use his skins.
Although it's not really that dark, I've read darker stuff.

I watched this movie for the first time last night. My first thought was Guillermo Del Toro is an absolute genius when it comes to dark fantasy storytelling. Pan's Labyrinth, Crimson Peak and now Pinocchio....this man knows how to use all the elements and emotions and colors and story arcs to weave together a tapestry and to tell a story and he does this PERFECTLY again with his version of Pinocchio. I just finished watching this version of Pinocchio and of the 5 or 6 versions of this puppet's story that I have seen, this one is, BY FAR, one of the best of the bunch in my opinion. DEFINITELY better than the other two versions of Pinocchio I've seen this year. Sorry Disney. The animation for this film is absolutely gorgeous and the emotional storytelling is beautiful (if a bit heartbreaking). This film achieved what Disney UTTERLY FAILED TO DO with both Geppetto and their live action version of Pinocchio. To me, this movie is what Disney's live action Pinocchio was TRYING to be, but this one did it SO MUCH BETTER. I liked this version because it wasn't afraid to give us a NEW interpretation of the story that was very heartfelt and emotionally sincere. They didn't cheapen it with potty humor and plugs like Disney did. And I really liked what we got to see at the start of the film. I think it made the bond between Geppetto and Pinocchio even stronger than in other versions like, say, Geppetto.
My second thought was "I really hope my favorite movie reactor (you) watches this movie and reacts to it, but I know this movie is going to touch his emotional heart just as it did mine.
Yeah. This one's a masterpiece. It's emotional and beautiful. Nice seeing your reactions and hearing your thoughts.
Got to say Del Toro's iteration of Pinocchio is the very first time I got into this classic tale. Since the Disney version was never really one of my favorites of theirs growing up as a kid, so this latest and newest interpretation of this old fairytale is what made me truly fall in love with the Pinocchio tale for the first time. I loved how much more in-depth this movie is and how it actually showed you Gepetto's relationship with his actual son and how much he seriously loved him also showing their strong father & son bond before Carlo death, how it makes the reasoning for Gepetto's creating Pinocchio much more impactful given his unbearable painful grief of wanting his son to came back and losing him so young, also its makes more sense instead of him just creating him simply just because he wants a son. I loved and enjoyed this movie a lot and its themes also messages of Death , Loss, how humans very brief time on earth is what makes them so precious along with how that plays into Pinocchio with him eventually someday dying too as well and that's is what makes him a truly "Real Boy" so to speck.

I just finished watching it myself. Still sobbing, such a great movie.
Very good choice not watching the Disney remake, I could barely finish it. Took away all of the magic of the original while being derivative. This version at least was unique and told a different spin on the story, can't wait too watch.
After the blasphemous remake, I was very much weary of this movie. But because it was directed by one of the greatest spanish directors of all time, I gave it a chance. My husband and I were crying at the end of the film!
EDIT: The reason I say Spanish because Mexico isn't the only country that has Spanish as one of the main languages. As a Mexican myself, I knew that not all Spanish speakers are Mexican.

Pinocchio is so famous and so popular, and it's so amazing that they are so many different version of the story itself. And this stop motion animation version of Pinocchio is very wonderfull.

For me, I think why Pinocchio's nose didn't grow when he said he loves wars was because he didn't really know what war really is. All he did was parrot the Podesta and Candlewick's sentiments but if he knew what war really is, he'll immediately run for the hills. And it's a bold move for Del Toro to set it in Italy during WW2 when Italy was a member of the Axis power and have a caricature of Mussoulini, their dictator.

I (no joke) watched this move 8 different times, and counting. I cried every single time, and in my opinion, is one of the best movies. I absolutely love how dark and deep, but also how wholesome it is. I love how it’s about love and loss, and a father-son relationship, and trust. I like how it teaches you about life and death, and adding some funny moments in their too. It honestly is the best of all of the Pinocchio remakes. This was Del Toro’s lifelong passion for 15 years. He really did an excellent job this movie, and I thank him very much for making such a beautiful masterpiece
In which what makes a real boy isn't "being obedient" or "having a good heart" but that when a real little boy dies he doesn't come back to life.

Ugh the ending it me so hard; thr water works wouldn't stop I was so invested in these characters, and they came off so genuine. I love this film.
The dead rabbits appeared in the original books. They appeared when Pinocchio met the Blue Fairy. After he refused to take a medicine, she told him that if he doesn’t take the medicine, he will die. And after she said that, the rabbits appeared to take Pinocchio to the afterlife. At the end he got scared and took the medicine
As far as “Oo, it’s a real wooden CGI Pinocchio that isn’t Disney! 😮 “, there was already a serviceable live-action Italian version from 2020, with Roberto Benigni as Gepetto. (No, not the disastrous ‘00 version with Benigni as Pinocchio…)
In fact it’s sort of hard to remember why we’re supposed to be excited that Guillermo Del Toro actually finishes one of his many pet fanboy projects, unless we’re encouragingly amazed he actually FINISHED one.

I just finished watching this movie and I saw your reaction video pop up and I was like, "YAY!" lol
I didn't expect this movie to make me cry and yet it did. A beautiful and unique retelling of the story of Pinocchio. More than likely, this movie is gonna get an Oscar nomination.
This took Guillermo Del Toro 10 Years to make. It was cancelled then it was uncanceled for a number of reasons, like when the script had to be reworked to fit the tone of the book or if they ran out of money or if Del Toro wasn't feeling well.
This version is darker and more serious than the Disney/Zemeckis version that got torn apart by Critics.
I’m glad he pulled through with it, because it made up for that travesty.
This movie is fantastic. I never thought I would see a Pinocchio movie made like this one.
I was jawdropped throughout this video. Didn't think it was gonna catch my interest at all after seein' so many awful adaptions of Pinocchio, but this one was a very fantastic movie even seein' it edited and reacted. I have had a glimmer of hope that this project will come out ever since I found out about the unrealized Del Toro films. I wanted to go at the end of December, because I always liked the combination of setting and fantasy elements in Del Toro films. Who knows, maybe after Pinocchio he will be allowed to shoot the third Hellboy.

If your confused on some certain aspects of this movie especially dealing with the Training camp and what was going with Gepetto's town. This version of Pinocchio is set in Fascist Italy around WW1/ WW2 with the showcasing of Italian dictator Mussolini at the time.
An entire musical number just calling Mussolini a poopyhead. This movie is perfect.
Ciao papa, mio papa, my tears start to drop. Feeling from a father.

I've been a silent viewer for awhile now, and at the risk of being awkward I've got to say you have to be one of the most earnest, dare I even say purest, souls I've ever seen. I know I shouldn't base impressions/opinions off of edited videos, but I don't think I've ever seen a guy seem so innocent and sweet. Don't ever lose that!

I just finished watching it and it really is a beautiful film. Guillermo Del Toro is such a good storyteller.
I haven’t heard a review yet where this movie didn’t bring someone to tears. I had to stop after the first 20 minutes and finish the rest of the film a couple of days later.
This film is a masterpiece and I’ve never seen better stop motion animation. Practically everything Del Toro touches turns to gold.
The stop motion is extremely realistic. It could pass for CGI all day.
There's no Pleasure Island scene, but I don't mind since that always traumatized me.
I was kind of looking forward to how Guillermo would spin it and I think him turning Pleasure Island into the boot camp was an interesting take. They both have their own horrific implications.
The boot camp/ training camp is thé equivalent of thè pleasure island, both kids making boys, but in here, its more fvcked up and messed up, they were just kids and they’re training for a war 😢

The youth training camp was the Pleasure Island and the gas masks the kids were putting on during the air raid was them turning into donkeys.

What is wrong with you!? Pinocchio's not perfect. He's not your son, Carlo. He's a bit of a handful. Can't you see that he loves you, and wants to be loved back?
This made me laugh at 17:33 when the boy said to Pinocchio, "Hey. try to get closer to the fire to get warm" and when he did, he burnt his legs! 😂😂🤣🤣 So he had to make a new pair of legs again!

I know how you feel about spoilers but I don't think this is spoiling much; since the remake is almost the same movie as the original Disney film but, every new thing added to the remake is "coincidently" in this movie as well only, they're done much better here.
And I put quotes on coincidence because I don't believe it is a coincidence.
Just keep in mind, Del Toro has been working on this film way longer than Disney worked on their remake.

Please watch Klaus, it's a great and beautiful movie. Also the 2020 version of Pinocchio is great. It follows the book the most and feels great.
You were confused on why Pinocchio's nose wasn't growing when he said he loved war. There's a simple explanation behind it, how can you love something when you don't know what that something is? He didn't know whether he loved or hated war yet so technically that wasn't a lie. After he finds out what war was if he were to say that statement again his nose would grow.

There is one thing I was wondering when I watched this movie, and that is that his soul returns to his boddy every time he revived from the death, so what would happend if his boddy had burnt up?
I wasn't quite sure about it when I first saw it, but I thought Pinocchio sounded like Carlo. That's because they're voiced by the same actor.

@Indeed a username I felt the exact same way! I get that not every Disney movie has to be a musical, but Mulan has some of the BEST Disney songs ever! And they're not even made by Alan Menken! Shorting Be Prepared was less stupid than completely cutting out I'll Make a Man Out of You, not even an instrumental in the score!
