While your getting your winch built you may want to look into rope skinning. Tie a rope to the hide and have a loop on the other end to put your foot into so you can keep your hand free to skin while you use your foot to pull down and put pressure on the hide. Still need a gambril but other than that your good to go at least until your skinning machine is ready. I did this for years. David Canterbury has a couple vids of skinning yotes with a rope that are very informative. Basically the next best thing to a winch system. Hope that helps. tight chains!

Another great vid! I always love to see how other trappers do things so I can pick up some hints and tips to improve myself. If everyone did it all the exact same way it'd be boring as hell! I was stoked to see someone else using fillet knives! I started filleting salmon when I was just a little kid and that skill with the fillet knife transferred over to skinning. I personally like a 4 inch stainless rapala fillet knife as I found myself choking up on the blade with the longer fillet knives. I know everyone and thier dog offers advice in the comment section and I try not to do that but this time I do have some advice haha ignore the haters! Sticks and stones brother! You do you! Have a good one, and thanx again for another vid!

You should invest a little bit of money into a little wet sanding block for your knife because the sharpener you are using is actually ruining your knife and it’s still going to be a somewhat of a dull knife if you get a wet stone your knife will last way longer and you will have a very sharp knife for a longer period of time

Question....why do you sell green? Not enough time to dry and stretch or not interested? Do you find the fillet knives are nicer than a short 2-2 1/2 inch blade? I haven't tried a fillet knife for skinning critters, just have a small "old timer" lock blade and a beaver knife.
