As a kid our garage was practically a muskrat factory. My mom my brother and I would skin the 30 to 60 rats my dad caught a day plus the half dozen or so my brother and I would catch. Well over 2000 rats a year and close to 3000 in some cases. Then I would gut and wrap them in packs of two for the meat. My dad would run them nose firrst through a laundry wringer to remove the bulk of the fat then did the fine fleshing and trimming the edges while on a wire stretcher. I'm surprised I dont see anyone using the wringer anymore. Fast and efficient. I only trap as a hobby now, a couple dozen furs and enough meat for 2 or 3 good rat dinners and a chance to teach my grandson something good. Thinking about hitting it harder next season, maybe get 3 or 4 hundred. Fur prices are low but the meat goes 2 bucks a rat around here, so that's motivating. I really enjoy your videos and am envious of all the species you have to trap. We are limited here in south east Michigan. Keep posting the vids and I'll keep watching.

Salt is a little harder to use a little bit more expensive but it's worth it when you sell it

I see you use a necker knife too, had mine for 35+ yrs. Great tool for raccoon and them nasty greazy yotes, use a cupped scrapper for rats tho. Carry on brother.

I love this smaller size fur shed. Most trappers on UA-cam upload a “fur shed” video and it’s some custom built climate controlled 20x30 space inside a 40x60 pole barn... Where my poor outdoorsman at?!

You freeze rats whole and skin/flesh a large lot all at once? If so, how do you usually tend to'em to freeze, what about the thaw?

I started watching you because of your work with Flair nice btw.. When you tossed the Muskrat on the floor my heart sunk. I thought you would use the meat to eat? I was reading the posts and the question was asked about what you do with the meat. You said you use it for bait.. Yeah? Stupid question friend? Why use it for bait and not for food? I'm from Michigan south of Detroit... I have nothing to trap around me. I was just wondering why you would not eat the Muskrat ( hell for all I know it could be great)
