There are a few ways to get them, you can buy them from a seller or find one in the wild yourself! The best way to find one yourself is during a nuptial flight, since she'll be looking for a place to live and you can provide one for her. Research ant species in your area and the times they have nuptial flights, or you can find people who are selling ants you can buy. Good luck!
Sorry that this reply is so late, I do have some colonies I would like to sell this year, but no Formica yet sadly. I live in North Carolina in the USA and exporting/importing rules are strict here, so if you are not in the area I wouldn't be able to sell to you.
@@casualbeaver Not when the two tubes are taped together it doesn't. When I do that I normally use a needle and make some air holes in the tape between the two tubes.

Thanks!! It’ll be a long and difficult journey but I think it’ll be worth it.
where I've been and how the ants are doing.
Hey, are you selling any colony's? I'm really in the market for a Formica colony I can take brood from, or just any species, lmk

How often will you remove the tape to allow fresh air in?
The cotten ventilates the tubes

I didn’t cover the entire opening, so air is able to get in but the gap is small enough that ants can’t get out.
