I'm just an average ant enthusiast. I keep ants and a few other critters, all exotic pets. Here I post videos of my adventures with ant keeping and occasionally some other stuff related to nature and animals!

Camponotus chromaiodes queen being dragged by worker to new home
After a few hours of prodding the stubborn queen, this worker got fed up with waiting and dragged her into their new test tube.

Camponotus chromaiodes founding colony eclosing new worker
Переглядів 380Рік тому
Just an informal video. Caught some Camponotus chromaiodes queens earlier this year in March and they are now welcoming their first workers. I happened to catch the tender moments of a nanitic’s sisters pulling her from her cocoon and licking her. So cute! Update about the channel: I’ll admit that while I enjoyed making videos for a short time, it’s a lot of work and I can’t see myself doing it...

After over a month of waiting, they're here! The first workers of a few of the queen ants I caught. Please welcome these sweet tiny babies! (Well, technically they are adults. But they're babies in my heart.)

No surprise deaths this time! Most of the queen ants have eggs, and some of them even have pupae! It's an exciting time here in the Happily Ever Anter household. Also in this video: one of the Camponotus chromaiodes is stressed, so I moved her into a Tar Heel Ants Mini Hearth in a last-ditch effort to give her a chance to found a colony. I will keep you updated!

woooo, nice video, keep going
Are you an anter girl????? Yooo
Best!

W video
And you can't just leave and ignore the mite. fight it, or get wiped out.
if the queen is out walking around, must be a reason. wanting something,.. proteins maybe. Queens dying off for no reason or won't pull wings. Try a little protein offering.
Atleast the queen is movin, hopefully theres more of the queen ant updates or new catches. Keep up the good work 👍🐜
If the owner answers and pins me it’s gonna be my first time
Nice, i cought 1 Q Camponotus ligniperda.
the disrespect haha
Very nice looking queen 👍
Is that dangerous for the queen? 🤔
Woww
Hi remember me? Your doing so good, keep it up❤
Hey I do!! You commented on a lot of my videos from a year ago. Hope you are well, and thanks for commenting!!!!!
Does petsmart sell fruit flies?
They do around here, I live in central North Carolina. They are hit-or-miss though, once I checked them and there were no flies in the vials. Another time there was no food and a bunch of dead flies. I get my feeder insects from the Dubia website but they haven't had fruit flies in stock, and when I asked them about it they answered that they may not have them this year. I've had luck in the past with Josh's Frogs fruit flies.
Awesome id love to see more videos
Thanks! I'd like to make more, but things have gotten hectic lately and I'd like to just post to UA-cam as a hobby so I don't stress about it at all.
Very nice 👍 I prefer messor ants. But I live in America. So I guess we aren’t allowed to have messors. I’ll be getting a Camponotus pennsylvanicus soon next week
Messors are cool, I'd love some. I'm also in America though 😂So I make do with what I have. I see you posted this 2 weeks ago, hope your Camponotus pennsylvanicus are doing well!!!
Nice. I wish I could just put like 1 million likes on your videos and comments because you’re just incredible. keep up the great work .
Thanks haha. I think I have a long ways to go before I get anywhere close to 1 million likes!!
Super Cool!
Thank you!!
Do u know when is the best time to catch queen ants? I mean which months
Depends where you live, I live in the southeastern US (NC) and I started catching Camponotus chromaiodes and decipiens this year during late March. I did catch a Prenolepis imparis queen during late February, but they like to fly when it is colder. When it is humid and hot, alates like to fly then. I think the only months they may NOT fly is from like, November-January. Different species fly at different times, I think Camponotus fly earlier in the Spring and Summer while Crematogaster fly in the beginning of Fall in September. If you look up your region, you can probably find a good resource of when ants usually fly there. Formiculture is a decent resource
I have caught a carpenter ant queen in a long I have already dug in and she was huge
Nice!! Finding a queen is always a thrill.
Nice video! I know this was a while ago, but where are you located?
I'm located in central North Carolina! This video was filmed at my last house (I've since moved) but I didn't move very far.
I also have a colony of these ladies! I caught my queen summer of '22 and they are out of hibernation now with about 15 workers! What kinds of foods do you typically offer them?
Wonderful!! Hope your colony is doing well. Mine like mealworms and Kool-Aid. I've tried cut up dubias, but they don't seem interested. I've given them fruit flies a few times (like when I recorded this video), and recently I've given them small hornworms and black soldier fly larvae. This video is pretty old now, and the colony has gotten much bigger. I will tell you that these girls love to escape at any given chance and I've had a lot of escapees lol. The queen herself never escaped thankfully, but the workers that escaped made a nest in a plant pot in my room and produced males, which wanted to fly around. I've since solved that problem, but I think keeping them in test tubes is a great way to keep them contained lol. I've tried three different nests and they were able to escape two of them very easily, so now mine are in some test tubes again. Even though my colony is a few hundred strong now, they still struggle to finish off a 1ml tower of Kool-Aid, lol. They are so small
Nice video!
Thank you!!
You just got a new sub
Thank you!!
where I've been and how the ants are doing.
ants:PANIC THERE IS A INTRUDER the fruit flys ghost:bruh im littrally dead
Great video I loved it
i really want an ant keeping class in school i wouldve learned things
Wouldn't that be so cool? Maybe one day I'll teach an ant keeping class, lol.
Where did you get those small nests at the beginning of the video from
Hey, are you selling any colony's? I'm really in the market for a Formica colony I can take brood from, or just any species, lmk
Sorry that this reply is so late, I do have some colonies I would like to sell this year, but no Formica yet sadly. I live in North Carolina in the USA and exporting/importing rules are strict here, so if you are not in the area I wouldn't be able to sell to you.
Great video
Thank you ❤
3notqueen
I thought qeeun ants only appear in June July and august
How can I get queen anys
There are a few ways to get them, you can buy them from a seller or find one in the wild yourself! The best way to find one yourself is during a nuptial flight, since she'll be looking for a place to live and you can provide one for her. Research ant species in your area and the times they have nuptial flights, or you can find people who are selling ants you can buy. Good luck!
Nice queens and video! (and the ants in the pupae get out on there own)
How do you obtain/euphanize the fruit flies? And are they safe to feed to my ants without disinfecting them with boiling water first?
So are you saying that I could potentially take worker ants of the same exact species and give them to newly mated queen and they would except her and take to her? I really was trying to figure that out myself.
no you can't. do not try it as it is cruel. :,D
no, she would attack the workers. It should work with brood (eggs and larvae) if they are from the same species. Just don‘t put any workers in there.
Your collection is super nice 👌... But This year 😔 I managed to catch only one queen but she is doing well 😊
Keep trying they are still flying and you may get lucky
Aw man. Hope you have better luck this year!! When I first started I had a really hard time finding queens and getting them to survive.
I feel like this is ant Canada started
Can you have them in an air conditioned room as long as you have the cable??
Mine are in an air conditioned room! The cable helps keep them warm. I think a heat mat could be a good alternative, as I’ve seen some other ant keepers using them.
@@HappilyEverAnter thank you
This year was the very first time I have caught queens and I am looking forward to when their first workers (nanitics) arrive. They are Lasius Niger but I am hopefully getting Myrmica rubra soon! I wish you and your founding colonies the best of luck!
Hey that’s great!! I wish you luck too! This was basically my first real successful year with ant keeping. It takes a lot of trial and error and patience!
What are those containers with liquid in them
They’re ByFormica liquid ant feeders, mini size. They’re pretty useful!
I had a queen break into my hotel room and harass people in their sleep, I had a test tube ready for ant catching and thankfully the queen wasn't hurt, but it's kinda funny she came right to me, she was a Camponotus novaeboracensis queen which was the exact species I was after
Haha queens come into our lives in the most unexpected ways sometimes! I found a queen once when I was delivering pizza to a house. Thankfully I had something to put her in!
lasius? at that time of year? we're just getting lasius and formica just now. camponotus is almost over!
Looking forward to your videos love it
Thank you so much!
my camponotus has its first cocoons
Congratulations! Good luck with them!!
