    One more thing, I don't think Victor ever saw themselves in Harlan in the sense of being an apocalyptic threat, but rather as the son he never had a chance to raise. From loving his mother to giving him part of his powers, Harlan is the closest thing to a child of his own that Victor ever had so he defends Harlan in the way a father would. It's why his fight with Alison is so intense, its a parental fight.

      I'd say they had more of a sibling or self connection, both of their families have trouble understanding them. Harlen ultimately loses all connection to his family like Victor had in season 1. Additionally, they both are able to find comfort in music/sound.

    On Allison and Viktor's feud this season, I really wish he'd turned around and reminded Alison that she was the reason he hadn't grown up learning how to control his powers. My problem with Allison and her kinda villainous development is that it felt like we’re supposed to be on her side more than is warranted (in my opinion). Like we see that Reginald was trying to get his wife back but the audience is never meant to root for him. Everyone acknowledges that Reginald is not a good person, yet Allison gets a pass because she’s sad or didn’t mean it That Way or whatever. Same in season four ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Your point regarding the world not feeling real is the exact feeling I had but couldn’t articulate on. It’s so annoying as there really isn’t much world building and the bits that are, they’re poorly executed. I genuinely forgot about the fact Reginald is an alien and that Five created the commission and I think if these plot points had more build up or better pay off they could’ve been so memorable but yeah this season seems like a Temu version of the show (minus the Footloose scene, that one had all the fun the show is known for).

    • @dylanjackson5304

      @@arbyswitch5580 Concept wise I think there was some cool ideas such as the subway system being linked to different timelines, and the idea of the two different elements (marigold and the other one) but in the end it was a disappointment. I mean to start,
      it had only 6 episodes compared to every other season having 10.
      I would’ve really liked them to have brought older Ben back instead of sparrow Ben as I didn’t really warm up to him in season 3 and even when they were trying to make him sympathetic this season, I wasn’t vibing with it.
      Another thing is Reginald and that were still stuck with an alternate version, I know Viktor had his closure with him but it doesn’t feel complete as this is an alternate version who never inflicted the trauma on him (although if Viktor grew up under him I’m sure he would have done the same)
      The Five and Lila relationship… I mean I always felt the two characters had chemistry but I never felt like it was a romantic one.
      I think this season had so many cool ideas but I just think the length really killed it. The ending was good but I think with how rushed everything was I felt like the gloom of the ending was just the cherry on top of the bad things that came before but with that said, I still enjoyed moments of the season, Gean and Jean were fun, the umbrella cast have good chemistry as always and when there was action it was still good. I would say I still preferred this season over 3 though but it’s potential was crushed

    allison always clearly had a dark side. in s1 they show that she rumored her ex husband to be in love with her. i would've been all for a descent like viktor's, but it just didn't shake out right. viktor did a lot more damage, but because of it luther choked him out, they locked him in a vault, and seriously considered killed him to the point where luther almost assassinated him in s2. allison got, like, a single frown and she loudly objected to having gotten even that. she demanded to be treated like she'd done nothing wrong, which viktor never did. idk straightup cold blooded murder feels more real than a powers-fueled rampage and i don't have much faith in the show to address it. the writing already felt weird, with everyone validating allison's stance that harlan erased her daughter by killing her mom. i don't get why she couldn't have been upset for her mom's sake or why no one brought up that simply not being in umbrella academy would've meant her life would've been completely different anyway.

    21:20 So with Luther I think that is his arc he’s suppressed his true personality who he really is as Luther and being Hargreaves’ Number 1. From being the stern, business only, superhero leader to being the funny, goofball, romantic, childlike Luther Hargreaves. Remember he’s incredibly emotionally stunted to being a 13 year old because he’s very much an opposite Five. While Five is a man in a child’s body, Luther is a child in a man’s body.

    The mothers' deaths make no sense. Harlan sensed the arrival of the marigold on October 1, 1989 and recognized it as a part of Viktor, and so assumed Viktor had finally returned for him. He desperately reached out to Viktor for comfort since his mother had just died, and lost control of his powers. Thus, Viktor's mother should've been the only one affected by this. Harlan was seeking Viktor specifically, and Viktor was the only Umbrella who he ever really interacted with, anyway. His loss of control should've killed only Viktor's mother. Or, if his marigold was connecting with all the rest of the marigold in a way that harmed the mothers, then all 43 of the marigold-infused mothers should've died, not just the Umbrellas' mothers.

    • @nightmareTomek
      @nightmareTomek 4 місяці тому

      Well, you didn't pay attention. The intro in season 3 says 16 mothers gave birth on that day. It wasn't just the Umbrella mothers, also the show didn't really confirm either that all Umbrella mothers died.
      Though only Viktors Mum would have been more plausible and a good idea, they would have lacked the clue to what's going on, which would have needed to be fixed by the writers.

    You're absolutely right about the covid changes - I work on unscripted TV shows and the budgets during covid were adjusted for covid expenses such as testing kits, social distancing accommodations and additional shoot days if someone tested positive. Some productions added that budget to other line items but many networks took it away. For example, let's imagine a show cost $2,000,000 to make, $60,000 was for covid but that was taken from that original budget. When covid budget was no longer needed because guidelines changed, the budget readjusted to $1,940,000. I would think shows that are closer to an hour long would be affected more because they have more to film and edit. And inflation is making costs crazy expensive now. But the use of AI to "cut costs" is both replacing many jobs and killing projects. But the networks are killing their own shows because they don't see the ROI they want. Some shows like Umbrella Academy are niche and harder to market so they probably want it to be received poorly and not renew.

      I think season 3 was on par with the previous seasons. There were a few things to iron out, I don't really care for an excuse like Covid, they should have putten more effort into it, but just a handful of scenes and the rest was very well done in my opinion. All this criticism about season 3 seems unreasonable and out of place to me. Some comments I read above there were just people not paying attention.
      Season 4 is a different story, as I see it there are only 3 seasons and one fanfic season. I also think it would have been more interesting if they didn't have powers for the majority of the season. Maybe get them back at the very end. And since the ending felt more rushed and lazy as the rest of the season, I suspect they surprised the writers with the cutting of the episodes and they had to ditch their original plans.

    So, the Sparrows never died due to the Kugelblitz power waves, they all died from directly touching it or interacting with it directly.
    Marcus got pushed in by Grace. The bird lady was trying to protect the cube and the cube guy literally was holding it inside of him.
    It makes sense by Sparrow Ben and Sloane never got sucked in, they never touched it.

    I was devastated by Allison's villain arc in S3, but I agree that it makes perfect sense. I think I was just personally really disappointed because in S1, despite the fact that Victor is an apocalyptic threat, she recognized the ways in which that was a self-fulfilling prophecy, and yet she doesn't do the same for Harlan, so at first glance, it seems like a betrayal of her character. But when you think about it, you could also interpret it as her expressing her regret for not stopping Victor the first time and deciding not to make the same mistake again, which makes perfect sense given what she's lost again and again. But my favorite thing about Allison in S3 is that out of all the characters, she most clearly shows the trauma of going through these constant alternate realities, to the point where it seems like she stops feeling like the world is real. It explains why she starts acting out, because she feels like there will be no consequences anyway when the next wipe comes around.

    • @nightmareTomek
      @nightmareTomek 4 місяці тому

      I agree it does make sense. Allison did pull the final trigger for the end of the world in season 1, it could have ended differently if she hadn't had shown mercy. And she was punished the most for it, the show charged her scenes with the most emotions while others got a rather light hearted treatment.

    Season one was weird, but thats why I liked it. It was wacky, silly, crazy, but well-written (mostly) and compelling. The acting was good for most characters. Then in season 2 it got even weirder, some may argue too weird, but I still truly enjoyed it. The enemies were so GOOD and I wanted to know what happened. Then season 3 wasn't weird in a good way, it was just plain terrible. I stopped caring about the characters and got bored. Nothing they did made sense for what the characters had been built up to be previously. "Bizarre" is the perfect word to describe season 3. I didn't even get halfway through before I just forgot it existed. I read the ending of season 4 and just shook my head.

I realized almost immediately that I'm not certain I actually finished season three...and what's really unfortunate is that I didn't really need to have done to follow the "plot" of the final season. I think the thing about Grace and Pogo's variants is that Grace left Reggie because of Diego's meddling, So Grace wouldn't have as much care built into her, and Grace being a huge part of Pogo's upbringing, her leaving would leave Pogo less loyal than original Pogo, at least that was my read on it.
    Also, it does make sense that Ben is the only alternate, seeing as Harlan hadn't met him due to him being a ghost, so he didn't have that connection to Ben like he did the others.
    I quite liked the third season, but I do agree that the world felt almost too empty, that it wasn't built enough, and I can see your point about Allison, it seems people tend to forget that we're seeing her after a bunch of not-so-okay things she did and during season one and two, we were seeing her learn from being manipulative, the nature of her power is manipulation, the fact that she rumoured someone (Most likely Patrick or Claire) into loving her, and season three was just her snapping point of a "no point in being good if everything keeps getting taken away" attitude. I still really dislike what they did between her and Luther, but it again shows that she was always okay with moving on from him, knowing that he was there as a backup because she isn't really a morally clean person

    • @Guinnessrat
      @Guinnessrat 4 місяці тому

      I'd always wondered if the snippet of Allison rumouring someone to love her was directed at Luther when they were younger. Like she knew she'd have the perfect excuse to string him along (like oh no we're kinda like siblings this isn't okay!!) but wanted him to stay infatuated with her as they grew up anyway. In hindsight I don't think that works with how old her voice sounds in the clip and the context of it (can't fully remember) but it made the scene with her assaulting him in s3 make a lot of sense to me when I'd already had suspicions she had used her powers to manipulate his feelings before.

    • @nightmareTomek
      @nightmareTomek 4 місяці тому

      It never made sense to me that she used her powers on him before season 3, because her powers were never displayed as something that lasts for very long, and Luther loved her for decades even while on the moon. However when she rumored him in season 3 I think although it's dislikable, it is realistic and there are some behaving like that in our timeline as well.
      Things like Grace and Pogo, the whole timeline got kinda changed like through chaos theory, one thing led to another and then to another. Doesn't really matter to me why Grace changed, there are a thousand possibilities.
      I think season 3 is on par with the other seasons. A few things could have been ironed out, but I don't see them as mistakes but as wacky like the show is knows for. For example when Klaus is hit by all these cars, this is catastrophically nonsensical of course, but when in season 2 they fought in that mansion and blew all the windows, nobody below bats an eye and nobody here criticises that. Or how Five was onto Lila so quickly is a bit weird as well. There were minor mistakes all over the seasons, but they're all just minor.

    SPOILERS FOR SEASON 4
    So I didn't rewatch season 3 before season 4, thus all I remembered was that 1: they were stuck in a hotel and there was an apocalypse they had to fight. 2: there was some betrayal or something and they did a Thing to lose their powers and shift timelines. 3: that Ben was from this timeline and there was a Sparrow Academy. 4: Viktor transitioned. I thought Sloane was a normie with no powers.
    I feel like Season 3 left Season 4 in a bad position. They'd done too many apocalypses, it got old. I don't think Season 4 could've had any ending resulting from an apocalypse that would've felt satisfying. If they survive, you're wondering what the difference is, if they die you're wondering why you wasted your time with the first three. I think the only way they could have ended successfully would have been showing the characters actually function properly enough to stop the apocalypse before it became a thing, but then still realise that they were the problem. Not very happy with the ending to say the least, especially because they did NOT build up Jennifer and Ben properly.

    • @nightmareTomek
      @nightmareTomek 4 місяці тому

      You forgot all the important things. xD
      I think the setup for season 4 was really more than great, they just didn't capitalize on it. Like reverted it too quickly. In season 3 when the team didn't want to go with Reginald, they spent a whole episode on it, but in season 4 when the team didn't want their powers back, 3 minutes later they had their powers back. And the ending came so quickly it feels to me that halfway through the last episode the writers received the message that their 10 episodes are going to be cut down to 6. They had to throw away their original plan and just do something that maybe would make sense if everybody in the audience were drunk.
      I think they should have gotten their powers back way later, maybe even in the latter half of the season. Five could have stumbled into the train station without blinking inside. I also think that there were enough apocalypses for the show, it would have been very hard to make a 4th apocalypse without it feeling repetitive. Instead they could have gone down a route where they assume Reginald is evil and start fighting him.

Only three of them did. The deformed guy and spitting girl got killed by Harlan. And Marcus dying bc of the blitz made perfect sense. He literally touched the thing. And 2) While it's understandable why Allison killed Harlan, it wasn't at all justfied. She only killed him bc she was angry and needed someone to take it out on. Plus, she knew it would hurt Vikor and I think she wanted that. But he was no longer a threat. His powers got successfully taken that time. She killed him for vengence, plain and simple

    I didn't really feel let down or weirded out by season 3. Mostly due to the characterization. Somehow, I just felt all the characters were believable enough overall to make a good show. You know, overlook the flaws like empty-feeling sets. Sure, the Sloane/Luther plot felt rushed, but I really felt the writers were using that to express a few themes. Particularly, that the end was nigh, and everything did need to be rushed. Characters were questioning how to spend their last days. Harlan could be accused of being flat and monotonous as a character, but if you look back to the characterization of him in the previous season as a quiet and traumatized child, I honestly think how he was acted here was spot on. I honestly cannot remember any of his lines from season 2, and I'm not sure he spoke in the last episode at all. Allison is in a deep state of loss and refuses to talk to anybody about it whatsoever. All the while having been raised to manipulating the everloving hell out of enemies as a superhero. Previously praised for doing anything to win by a somehow even more manipulative father figure. I struggle to find a character whose motivations are entirely unintelligible or unbelievable, outside of the Sparrow Academy basically being treated as mere plot devices...

    I guess to be fair, there is a news broadcast that mentions that missing persons cases have skyrocketed, but it's just one small blip and it's never brought up again, at least as far as I remember.
    But yeah I completely agree, the whole season just felt disjointed and it was hard to care about the universe ending due to the way it was handled by the writers. It just felt sloppy and rushed, which is a damn shame because I was enjoying the living hell out of seasons 1 and 2. I guess the only consolation is that it looks a hell of a lot better after having watched season 4 lol. Game of Thrones season 8 wasn't a guide on how to write a series finale guys, good lord.

    wtf were they doing with the new powers like introduced new powers to use them like one time like Diego gathering bullets and shooting them back like wtf?And Ben is alternative universe Ben but he seems to connect with the childhood main timeline where he made contact with Jennifer oh and the bad guys suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked and were all killed off before we learned why they knew what they did or I guess Jean and gene could of learned from other universe documents but they just felt wasted .... they didn't really explain the timeliness train like the same moment in different timelines sure but how dow that become a functional system....it felt like umbrella academy was jealous of other superhero shows and movies and just gave up like we took all the V so the dark Phoenix and the TVA from loki exist to unwrite themselves from existence

    I quite liked the villain arc that Allison was having (and she had at the end of S3) but her SA Luther was a big no for me, and the fact that it was never talked about again or she apologized for it made Allison's arc in general not to my liking

    only thing is you keep bringing up how to kugelblitz ate up the sparrows but none of them were kugelbitzed except for marcus because he directly touched it, so maybe the marigold in them saves them or something?

    No one is really talking about the Allison Luther assault scene.............. That wasn't cool, but in season 4 they never addressed it. AT ALL. This show has a young audience and something of such dark subject matter shouldn't be glossed over. Viktor was upset at Allison, why couldn't Luther be as well? Why didn't we see him at least reconcile with Allison? There wasn't an ounce of pushback for Allison's actions in any of season 4.
