31:26 That Pentagram IS obtainable. At the Gold Key door pass thru to pick up the Prox Launcher, but step back. The statue to the left of it will slide forward, and the wall behind it will open to reveal a teleporter to take you to it. Somehow, it’s not tagged as a secret tho.
The fate of hipnotic kinda reminds of Raven software. Raven got condemned into the CoD mines while hip got condemned into making casual mobile games

24:04 I remember as a kid reading up on the Quake game manual. Shamblers “shrug off explosions” so I took that to mean that grenades and rockets aren’t too good on them. Always saved the Thunderbolt (a.k.a. the Shaft) for them. And SoA has A LOT of Shamblers on Nightmare.
It's true, Shamblers do take less damage from grenades and rockets.
What you want is to use nails. Shamblers do not like them and take extra damage.

Shamblers don’t take extra damage from nails. It’s just the the high rate of fire and it it not being an explosion.

I played single player a lot and always thought shambler is a tough monster, never noticed reduced explosion damage back in the days, just thoungh he needs 12 rockets. Now i sometimes run single player and seeing shambler i think, ah.. he dies from nailgun and supershotgun too quick..

He borrows a bit to heavy from Civvie's style if you ask me. I mean, I love Civvie as much as EVERYONE else in the Boomer-Shooter-Scene...but having your own style is what gives you some kind of relevanz when making videos.
Can't wait to see coverage of the Dissolution of Eternity, in my opinion the best of the original Quake campaigns.
You can turn off the generator in mortum’s keep, next to where the shamblers spawn in the end section of the level there is a little button you can press
I think you missed where I brought that up and still died in the explosion
It's worth noting that the Spike Mines travel a *lot* faster when you have your back to them.
And enemy alert sounds scale with distance.
Tom Mustaine also made 2 unofficial commercial megawads with Wraith Corporation, being Hell To Pay and Perdition's Gate. They're definitely abandonware now.

The gremlins in the Quake expansion clearly were inspired by the lightning guards from the 1994 FPS Rise of the Triad where much like the gremlin stealing a weapon of yours ROTTs lightning guards while electrocuting you with there lightning staffs would swipe your missile weapon from you! Also the jumping pads were also out of any FPS title originated in Rise of the Triad as trampolines in the maps that functioned exactly like the jumping pads from this expansion pack of the original Quake as well as Quake 3: Arena!

The "Watch your step" puzzle in The Cathedral has lights on certain platforms(Or no lights, I don't remember) indicating where it's safe to walk. I found out about this after I guessed my way through the puzzle.
There are no lights initially, but a shootable button (with a cross on it) will turn them on.
Jeehun Hwang also worked on the soundtrack to Mechwarrior 2 and its expansions, and you might hear some continuity in the samples and motifs he uses if you're familiar with that game's OSTs.

Tbh I found that the variation between scourge and doe helps to differentiate between the two and help each stand out from the other and, due to this, keeps each experience from being just more quake
Just played through the entirety with the new remaster. Finally got around the finishing it after all these years. The maps really did remind me of build engine maps!
"flacid quad damage" its a term that i will now use, it fits my experience with this expansion

Have you ever heard of Malice for Quake? It's a total conversion based on the Quake 1 engine made in 1997 I think.
The Naruto sound effect when going through portals is something I'll never get used to.

If you shoot the cross you see @ 23:11, light will shine on the correct path so you can navigate it easily, without falling into lava.
For that vanilla quake look I recommend watching a video called how to enable chunky mode quakespasm or something like that
I just beat this pack this week and I liked it a lot! A real fun map expansion. I think the lazer gun is even more fun than the lightning just cause you can use it for longer. Pew Pew!

The Prox Gun is good for points when you need to rocket jump, if you can get the timing down.
I always wanted to see a third fanmade mission pack that throws together elements of both. Plasma Rounds out of Mjolnir and the Laser Cannon, Multi-mines...
I think alkaline has some hipnotic stuff
Not sure if you've tried Arcane Dimensions but I'd recommend it. A few of the guys who made the mod were professional level designers and it blows all official Quake content out of the water, even the new remaster episode.

Finished this for the first time a few days ago. My jaw dropped when the final boss ricocheted it's lasers off the wall to hit me while I was behind cover. It's cool to see a Quake enemy that thinks, even if it didn't last very long.

The sticky bomb is proximity based in Prodeus? I remember sticking a load of bombs to a whole bunch of enemies at once since I thought they're remote detonated by letting go of the alt-fire. Maybe they changed that in a recent update, I dunno.

Idk about calling anything before Q3 arena shooters. Most of the games before them didnt lock you in to arenas like serious sam or doom 2016. You could usually just leave an area, with some arenas. Semantics sorta, but i love discussing generes.
Cool fun fact doom 2 spelt gauntlet right because all this time the correct word is gantlet meaning a flogging ordeal, literally or figuratively. A person may run a gantlet. A “gauntlet” is a glove. To throw down the gauntlet means to issue a challenge. To take up the gauntlet means to accept a challenge. Confusing I know

Scourge of Armagon is awesome, I'd say better than vanilla in every way, subjectively except the soundtrack.

Came back to this video after beating this mission pack in the remaster. Appreciating it so far since I'm new to this game but loving it for a level design analysis perspective. Gotta say though seeing you use the proximity mine to access to first secret level made me laugh. I assumed I had to rocket jump up there, which is what I ended up doing. XD Keep up the great work on the videos though. I sincerely mean it. ((Side note, is it normal for my health to be halved at all times in Nightmare mode?))
The Remaster halves your Normal health on Nightmare, but Enemy Speed is the same as on Hard.

Apparently in the remaster they made the pentagram in Tur Torment obtainable! I don't know the exact trigger (it probably just opens up after the floor does) butoneif the dog statues in front of the doorway close to the room slides forward to reveal a portal that puts you on top of the logo! Found it by accident while backtracking for anything I missed and thought that it was neat even if the pentagram itself is rather useless lol.
