  • Here's an overview of my 2016 Hobie Revolution 16, setup and gear used for hunting pelagic and other offshore fish. Excuse the crappy audio in the beginning. Still new at making videos.

    Boat is beautiful!! I love how we all have our own setups, and save hundreds of dollars on DIY Equipment, from things at home, Wal-Mart, home depot, etc!! Would love to see the 2.5 Suzuki on her. I know you know Steve from key west kayak fishing. He also has that boat, it's Stealthy!! I have the pelican catch pwr 100. I only weigh 145 lbs. I put a set of mini outriggers on her, that lift, and the 2.5 Suzuki. Love it..Be safe👍🙏🙏 God bless.

    Nice Rig. I used a pipe cap the same size as the cup holder, Snug fit to mount my fish finder, Works like the Best mount you could buy. Very Cheap

    Very nice rig. That boat would benefit from the deeper/bigger sail rudder (either shark fin or the older style/very similar to what you have here). I guess I'm spoiled because I run in kayak mode often with my Adventure Island. Turns on a dime and helps the boat track tight in rough conditions.

      Thanks! I have since replaced the rudder assembly, and changed to a sailing rudder as well. Mahalo for watching!

    Neat set up. I nearly sank mine because of that silly drain plug. I never ever use it now and I think it has been removed from the current models
    Pretty decent paddler too if you rig up a foot brace bar. I also have an old 2006 adventure that i converted to a paddle only boat

    Nice rig mate. I have a red adventure 16, the older version of your yak. Revo 16 is an amazing yak, just wishing hobie would give it some design attention like the outback. I've cracked the mirage drive recess and sunk a revo 13 and think it's only a matter of time before my current one cracks. I've changed my fins back to ST from turbo to reduce the risk. Heard hobie strengthened the MD area from 2015 onwards.

      aarynj Thanks!
      Yikes! Sorry to hear about the issues with your 13.
      Yes, I wish Hobie would give more attention to the revo line. My idea of a new revo is if they discontinue the revo 13 and 16 and design a 28” wide 14.5 feet revo with 2019 Outback style gear track/pockets in the front, and a revo 13 style front hatch.

    nice boat. I've been looking for the velcro rod wraps that you have to tie them off to the kayak. Where'd you get them?

      Phil All four came as a rod leash. Two of them(no-name) I got from a seller on eBay, and the other two I got from my local West Marine. I think they are the Yak Gear brand. Hope this helps.

      Sean Kang FlexBasket by Starplast. I actually bought some more recently. I think it’s seasonal. The two HD in my area only had a few in stock, one location had one color(white), and the other had grey.

    Aloha from the big island. Thinking about buying my first peddle kayak. I had an old prowler, I liked the light weight and maneuverability of it. Felt snug and comfortable, I also had a big game which felt really stable. I'm 6'0 215. Thinking of a 2020 outback for offshore leeward side. Thoughts?

    • @pingpong808
      @pingpong808  4 роки тому +1

      Jason Bianco Aloha Jason! I also own a Outback(2016). I like it because it is stable, and I really like the storage recesses on the sides, but it is heavier and cumbersome to handle out of the water, and it’s slower and takes a bit more effort to peddle in strong winds and current. I heard the newest Outback is just a tad bit more efficient to peddle but not by much. I also heard/read/watched that the newest Outback’s bow tends to dig in when experiencing following seas and choppy conditions, so you might want to research more on that.
      Anyways, if I were to start over again, I would get a Revo 13. It’s more stable, and can handle more weight in the rear than the 16, more maneuverable then the 16, and the front hatch is way easier to access than the 16. Compared to the outback, It's of course faster, and there's way less hull slap. The Revo 13 is lighter and easier to handle out of the water than both the Revo 16 and Outback, which is a big plus when loading/unloading, and handling during surf launches and landings.
      In fact, I’m planning on selling the 16 and the Outback maybe mid-year so that I can get a revo 13.
      Thanks for watching.

    Hi ! Joe! nice video! im in Brazil and just considering getting a revo 16.. it looks reall nice but i got one question:
    How did your boat take in so much water that you had to swim back towing it?

    • @pingpong808
      @pingpong808  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Mike! Thanks for watching.
      I don’t know if I mentioned it in the video, but I forgot to put the drain plug back in. My plug had a broken retainer so I had put it aside when I was washing it down after my last trip. The issue is that the drain hole is small(10mm, maybe smaller), so water gets in slowly. By the time I noticed the instability because of all the water inside the hull, I was already over 1/4 mile out. Again because the hole is so small, I couldn’t find something to plug it when I jumped in the water to find missing plug. And also stupid me, I forgot my hand sump pump that day. Hobie finally deleted the drain plug on 2018 and newer Revo 16’s.

      @@pingpong808 Hi Joe! Thanks for answering! Yeah I know this little problem of the drain plug well! Once I almost sank a Hobie cat 16 because of this..
      In bad conditions this can kill you..
      I'm actually more into sailing but I want to have a kayak for the calm days.. maybe even I will learn to fish..
      But does this Kayak take in water normally in other places? Like the bow hatch?

    • @pingpong808
      @pingpong808  3 роки тому

      Mike Tarifa My front hatch sealed pretty well even with countless waves over the bow. I saw a couple of videos where they added sheet foam under the hatch, or installed additional bungees for better sealing. The round hatches were pretty watertight too in my case. I did have some water coming through the rudder line tubes, but that was when the kayak was heavily loaded.

      Ok 👍
      Thanks for the info!
      It's actually almost impossible to keep a boat 100% watertight..

    • @pingpong808
      @pingpong808  3 роки тому

      Mike Tarifa Yes indeed. A liter or two in the hull after a rough trip is acceptable in my opinion.

      Jerry Krabe I have a Mustad Fish bag that I put in the tankwell. It's has an odd shape and cumbersome. Just finished fitting a large Hobie bag in the rear and will post a video of the update(s) soon. Thanks
