  • The Hobie Revolution 16 is a very capable coastal and offshore fishing kayak. This video shows a selection of clips of the Revolution 16 being pedalled in rougher coastal conditions with choppy seas and swell off Lands End in Cornwall, UK.

    Thanks for this vid, Its just what I was looking for! I usually use a PA14 for offshore fishing but recently acquired a revo and was a little nervous about it's offshore performance. Walk around vids are nice but this one is very practical.

    I have an Oasis and an Outback and love them both. But when you want to go fast, you hop in a Revo 16 and go! Man, I am so tempted.

    Revo 16 can handle most any sea. Its the best ocean kayak hobie makes.

    Those swells at the 1:05 clip... jesus. Any idea what the forecast said on this day for primary swell height?

    • @CornishKayakAngler
      @CornishKayakAngler  5 років тому

      bavarian3 I think it was only forecast at 2-3ft that day, but that particular spot is over a big plateau reef surrounded by deep water. It was wind against tide and this causes the swells to increase over the reef making for quite interesting water conditions! It felt more like 4-6ft.

    Haha I clenched just watching this...I putter around in my inflatable Hobie...it doesn't like a following sea at all, even a gentle following swell is an adventure.

      Cooking and Fishing It can certainly be a handful in powerful swell. Good fun though if you can get the kayak moving with just the right speed and control for it to carry you along!

    What was the black bar in the video behind finder?

    • @CornishKayakAngler
      @CornishKayakAngler  4 роки тому +1

      Sorry for the delayed reply, the black bar is a rod rest. Works great for bait fishing at anchor and fishing downtide. Full details on how I made it and fitted it to the Revo 16 can be found here: www.kayakfishing.blog/blog/fitting-a-rod-rest-to-the-hobie-revolution-16

    How do you brace?

    • @CornishKayakAngler
      @CornishKayakAngler  2 роки тому +1

      You learn to do this with your body weight - it’s surprising how much control you can get once you’re used to it. You short of have to make your body flexible and rotate around your hips, let the hull do it’s job and fine tune by leaning your upper body. Sometimes with a big side swipe from a cresting swell you have to pre-empt the hulls reaction and shift body weight a little more rapidly but on the whole it’s just a gentle fluid motion to keep in touch with what the water is doing beneath you. Difficult to explain but when I now paddle other kayaks I find I brace less with the paddle so it seems to have benefits! There is a lot to be said for ‘feeling’ the ocean with your body and reacting accordingly to trim and position your craft as you move through the water.

    Looks like you're having fun. It's not something I would want to do. I'll stick to inland waters.

      I'm well practiced on the open coast so i love getting amongst the rough water. It;s not for everyone though! It is always great fun on a Hobie Kayak :)

    A very wet ride compared to my Trident 15 or Thresher 15

      Yes the Revo has a sharp and level bow. Great for piercing choppy waves for extra speed in rough stuff but the compromise is a wetter ride.
