I was a TV repairman 35 years ago, I always worked on all my own appliances as well. Not being as familiar with other appliance types, sometimes I’d reach out to a friend that worked on everything except electronics. I call him one time with a washing machine issue, but my wife was in ear shot, so I said I was having trouble with my cooking range. When he asked what was going on, I told everything it produced tasted like crap…needless to say, my range quit working all together for a few days. It started working about the same time the swelling went down 😂😂😂
When you walked up and there wasn’t an air filter connected to the open intake hose, it’s pretty obvious all that dirt has been going straight to the rings. They’re shot guys. It’ll never run right again until the engine gets rebuilt.
Hank, unless the valve guides are shot nothing goes into the cylinders from under the valve covers. All air comes in the intake manifold, fuel in through injectors, exhaust out the exhaust manifold.
OMG I was screaming that while watching lol. He needs to watch some videos on engine anatomy.
But oil from the crankcase comes into the head. Blow by travels in the oil feeds
I’m glad you specified what the scholarship is for. That will help keep you from having people wanting to go learn basket weaving or gender studies
It is specified for automotive technology.
Thanks for another great video. It was interesting.
Hard engine to start. Believe it is worn out. But you got it going after a while.
Engine needs overhaul I think.
Thanks to Hank and Wiley for helping this gentleman.
The Iowa farm boy.
You guys get me through some tough times. I can get lost in your videos for awhile and relax. I appreciate your videos and running commentary. Heck even Hanks jokes are …. tolerable… sometimes.😊
Hank and Wily, the human shop repair manuals. 😁😁😅😅 Ya'll did a great job!! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome great job Hank and Wiley 🤙😎👍👍💪
When was the last time a water separator filter was put on it and almost acts like it's full of water? Merry Christmas guys
Hank wanted to give up...Wily...was like let's try one more time......Wily is the man........JJ....😊
It being cold did you make sure the glow plugs were working properly. Makes a big difference
Wait a minute!! You guys are amazing!! The real pressure is can we get it started before lunch?😆
Good job Hank you and Wily got it going I hope it comes back to life seems to be a good old tractor
I watch each and every single one of your adventures and love your passion on getting these rigs going keep up the good work boys
Watch every episode my dad had a farm with equipment my husband had trucks KW Cummins Engine roadranger transmission..
Great job, Hank and Wiley.
Enjoyed it.
Wily comes with the best joke of the year !!!
I'm fresh off of a double lumbar spinal fusion surgery Needless to say I have a lot of time to watch HVF videos. But for the first time I get the nervous sweats watching Wily haul those batteries.
Loved it Hank, and it was nice that Wiley got you with a joke, did you get the link? Love Wiley, he's a great guy, he says he's not a mechanic but I'd trust him to work on my equipment. I'm pretty sure he's right about compression being the issue with that Case, I don't know about a broken ring, but compression is definitely lacking when cold. God bless you too brother 🙂
Great job, Hank and Wily!! You two are something else lol. You work good together and by watching you eat you do a pretty good job at that lol. Keep making these great videos and thanks for sharing!!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to both!!
The tension between you guys in this video is crazy
Good job you guys! Not sure how long you’ve been friends but my admiration to you both, you are like the song by Tracy Lawrence- find out who your friends are. You guys do so much and we appreciate you for it. 👍
Thank you
🎉 Thanks for the video 📸📸 guys.... appreciate y'all......... JJ....😊..
Hank you need to buy a power probe it’s a big help it’s like a test light plus multi meter and power source in one. You won’t have to waste time running jumper wires you just back probe a wire and hit it with power 25:04
Very good job and God bless y'all
Hank why are you pouring MMO onto the valve springs? You'll never get it into the cylinders that way. The only way is via the intake, exhaust, injector holes or glow plug holes if it had them, but that's a Cummins.
That motor is very sick, Very good starter motor. It survived almost three batteries fully discharged. Sometimes a quick burst of 24 Volts make it spin over faster, more compression heat and better results, but watch the temperature of the starter.
Can y'all take a closer look at that "Crestology" Crescent wrench? I am wondering if it actually says Crestoloy on it. If it does that is the alloy the wrench is made from and is likely a Crescent brand. Quote from Crescent tools "Crestoloy and similar alloys soon replaced carbon steel as the preferred material for the manufacture of hand tools."
Great video, I would have put in the ram block on the loader arms when you got it running and arms up for safety . Machine easier to work on .
Carbon buildup on the valves maybe...what did you leave the bucket in the air for?
Hank it doesn’t hurt to hook up jumper cables from your truck to charge the batteries while you keep cranking it. Just sucking down juice making it harder to crank 15:41
Merry Christmas Guys And A Happy New Year 🎊🎊🎊💯💯💯
You guy's working on that equipment with the safety bar in place on the loader is sad news for the insurance man, you will live long and enjoy life doing what you do best. Merry Christmas!!
U can use the thermometer on the exhaust ports to test for each cylinder firing. Also can use it on coolant hoses to see if thermostat is open and water pump working without sticking your hand in the fan belts of a running engine lol
I love it ,you boys couldn't work without a crescent wrench and vice grips,I love it ,keep up the good work ,from Raymond,Wa.
Hey hank Wiley thank you guys for the video and the time y’all spend to share with us appreciate y’all hope y’all have a merry Christmas 🎄 and a safe holiday. God bless y’all 🇺🇸👍🏻
Thank you. You too
Good Afternoon Gentlemen on this Sunday from AZ 😊 !
I've run a many backhoes and the 580 Case was the best. It was light weight and very tough.
Good old propane torch in the intake helps sometimes to heat incoming air.
From northern BC Merry Christmas to you all!
Just a idea before you do the rebuild do the leak down test on each cylinder and see if it might be a combination of valves and rings. And if you rebuild the engine I would go on ahead and send the injector pump and injectors to area diesel service and have it tested. I would just hate to rebuild it and the pump have to much fuel cause wash out happen on cylinder
Guys,we have known for years that starting fluid will eat the rings up on a diesel engine. They also become addicted to it where they will not fire without starting fluid. All starting fluids take the temper out of the compression rings. They market starting fluid as safe but it still ruins the rings with daily use. Back in the old days we use to spray the starting fluid on a rag and wrap it around the air clearer throat on very cold mornings. That was less harmful than a direct spray into engine..
Awesome video, Hank and Wiley
A 95 const king has glow plugs. Use them. Maybe no power to them ck glow plugs for continuity and voltage
Good luck.
Great job guys 😊
Great video and successful!! Hank, you definitely earned your Sarcasm Ribbon while in the USAF.
That.s great for them Hank love your truck the black
Compression is really low you can tell by all the blow by coming up thru the oil passages
Put bucket on the ground hose pop could fall
Hank says, lif is lik a box of choklats, you never know what ya gonna get, lol
Ck wires from ignition sw to glow plug ours was auto to start the glow plugs at a certain temp
Great video and marvel mystery oil is absolutely magical. You guys are amazing as a team.
These orange Case backhoes were everywhere when I was a kid.
Great video thanks Hank and Wylie
45 and raining here in Kings mountain, North Carolina
Kings Mountain! I'm from Gastonia
No wonder you moved to Florida. (Cleveland County).😊
The tag on the back of your shirt has given me an idea
Boa noite muito top esse serviço máquina meu amigo
Excellent video Hank :) & Wiley :) and some motor in Desiel fuel types are stubborn to get fire up ! Also certain years do Desiel motor needs get fully rebuilt job and some don't have be last forever! I know my late father 1963 McCormick International B414 got rebuilt ever 30 years on Desiel motor, 1968 International 624 A Desiel motor got 30 years too , 1978 International 724 B DESIEL 2 times in when on home farm and but when fix up never seen no start up problems ever or smoke bad !
You guys are awesome whatch you all the time I'm from Britain. What happened to willy's dream shop?
🇧🇷👍👏Legal ver essas máquinas diferentes que não existe aqui no Brasil
yall do great work mr hank n mr whiley
Hello buddy's good luck
Hank Hank Hank…the rings can be stuck in the ring groves in the pistons not allowing them to seal to the cylinder walls without the engine being stuck.
Love all the videos from Ontario Canada snowbelt region
You got me giggling this morning Wiley....send you a link OMG that was funny caught me off guard btw just subscribed to your channel yesterday 😊❤
Welcome. Thank you
Check your valve lash Hank.... That engine is slobbering oil and looks like it is tired. If your valve lash is too wide it won't suck in enough air or any kind of starting fluid to get it going. It sounds like it's only trying to pop on 1 cylinder. Sometimes those rattly 4B engines can shake the head bolts loose. Possibly a head gasket problem. Or possibly from all the ether that's been shot in it the rings are worn out. Or a combination of the three...
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
😮Wally has his own temperature gage putting on valve covers.
Totally normal to have crankcase gasses in the valve cover
Did you happen to check the viscosity of the oil thinking if its washed with diesel to much it'll thin the oil down so much ,Maybe put some thicker oil ??,The blow by isn't to bad when running .,Ps I done a shout out of your channel on my Compressor video
Maybe do a compression test before you say no compression ...that motor sounds fine.. I worked around many 580 k's in the oilfield 😊
You can tell by the amount of blow by coming from the crankcase that the rings are shot. Probably years of using starting fluid which will fry, or break them. Also could damage pistons/sleeves. Get yourself a compression tester for future projects like this. It will save a lot of time.
I think Hank and Wiley need to sing along with the opening tune to this video with some down home country twangs. Yee Haw!
A lot of The Times 2 of those backos. The thing is you run them for so long and if you're like clearing out lots of land with a bunch of dirt dirt. There can pretty much catch a catch in to anywhere in the engine and can jam up anything. It could jam up. Feel spots it can jam up pretty much. Any area is in the engine and then it can end up creating a huge clog to wear. Jams up things and then causes the engine to completely mechanically fail.
All the best for Christmas
As soon as I heard it crank and saw the blow by, I knew that engine had issues. Too bad, those 4bt Cummins engines are getting hard to find
Awesome
Nice work.
I hate jumping into someone else’s cobbled up mess. I prefer to make my own mess because I know what each part is supposed to do
FACT - Checking and slightly increasing the valve clearances to factory specs on any engine with solid lifters will help it start much quicker every time. But if the piston rings are severely worn, the engine won't start or be hard to start regardless.
I'm on board with Wiley compression
Wily why do Hank turn the key off when it's about to start
You guys need a compression tester.
The amount of smoke coming from the crankcase those rings are shot, take the injectors out and put a set of plugs and carburetor on it because it’s reached gas engine compression levels
I'd be checking valve clearances.
What brand of camera was that you put on the fender? That's a cool little cam. Are they expensive or not?
It's a osmo. Not terrible expensive
use the old trick for low compression engines which is fire stick in the intake for more heat to get a class Is combustion
Wiley and Hank always is gonna be starting something yeah hey
I'm surprised it wasn't raining oil once it was running. That's been my experience with worn out diesels. Also it's not making much oil in the valve train which says to me it needs bearings too, maybe a crank. But old Case hoes were pretty tough. Notice how the boom is cast steel. But it needs pins, bucket pins and king pins. And the hydraulics don't seem to cycle all that fast. Hardly faster than the T574 and nowhere near as fast as my MF 60H. (which needs a head gasket and maybe an inframe). How-'boutch-ya Hank!
Love the new intro music!
I don't know what this does but we'll find out! Lol
Nice work 😮
Awesome video you guys rock
If he’s been using either to fire it up every time it might have some busted rings or a hole on a piston. Luckily those motors are a dime a dozen
Mr. Wiley, why do u always park your trk a country mile from job site? Just curious
I noticed the same thing !, I mean he can hardly walk anymore!!!., 😊.
It looks to me like some of the valves aren’t closing. Could need rockers adjusted or a valve job.
I think it will run 🏃♀️ and I think 🤔 it is neet that Hank and Wiley are helping a student 🧑🎓 to learn how to a Better mechanic 🧑🔧 and go back to school 🏫
Love u both! I laugh every video
Hank, get those valve codes. Put back on for that guy or the owner you know
Maybe you guys should have a compression tester to confirm suspicion of low compression.
