looks like to me the ground wire isn't connected to ground its connected to the hot side of the starter. you have the ground on an insulated terminal on starter which is not a ground

Back in the 1970's I worked on a construction crew and every morning we would squirt two cans at a time into the excavator constantly until it was running. Sometimes we would put 4 cans or more in on really cold days.

Sorry Hank I bought a pair and I. Less then 2 months of use they started coming apart and they where uncomfortable I switched back to timberland boots and the a lot more comfortable
you gots the blue etti you need to let the batteries recover. The starter is stuck the bendix is stuck out and not returning lube the starter. Put the batteries on charge or get a good jump box

It looks like you had a direct short in the beginning. The negative shouldn't be on the copper bar, that is the switched positive going into the starter, you were shorting out the batteries with every click of the relay.

It's fantastic that you have started that fund for a trade school scholarship, I hope a lot of kids are helped, public education is not funding trade school education like there used to be. Got a funny for you, was sitting in the shop binge watching Wily and You and the neighbor boy came to ask if he could fish and he started watching Y'all and said Y'all sound like his Nana & Papa always arguing with each other. I had on the backhoe video from a few months back with yall changing out the starter. I couldn't stop laughing at what he said.
many years ago, when diesel engines didn't have glow plugs, they of course were hard to start up when cold, unless you knew how to choke them just like the gasoline motors with a carb. This can be done as well. It will take two people one to crank the engine over while the other person takes a hand full of rags and stuff them into the exhaust outlet and hold the rags into the exhaust while the other person cranks the engine. What this does is it a louse the Diesel fumes to build up inside the intake until it gets hot and exinites and the engine will start running. Of course, this will not work if there's an exhaust leak. also, in doing this be careful this can make the diesel engine backfire so make sure you have a good stand so should this happen you want get thrown off the equipment and get hurt. years ago, When I was in the Army, I ran 45 Kw generator In Germany during the winters that was the only way we could get running.Tip from one Veteran to another

Rust and painted areas is not going to ground good you need a cordless grinder so you can clean for a good ground . it only takes a minute to put a battery on a charger in the morning when you going out the door and when you come in at night put the charger on the other battery lol . I would get more battery cables and extra end's

Relays throws but the starter motor isn't. Missing a wire ? Is the kill line enabled or the switches inside different ?
You always have a issue with those cables add a foot to both and use a 4 1/2 in grinder to make a ground spot
