I knew that people called 4 5 6 somehow "bad mega man games", yet 4 5 6 are wonderful and are even more improved than the first three. Mega Man 5 is my favourite hands down. Is great at balancing the medium, exploits the mega buster. I never knew people could think that this soundtrack was considered "forgettable". It is easily one of the strongest ones. Crystal Man's and Wily's Castle songs alone are amazing.
***** You're absolutely right! And I agree to you. Mega Man 5 is my favorite game from my childhood! And it has the special villain in Mega Man 4, 5, and 6. They're Dr. Cossack, Dark Man/Fake Proto Man, and Mr. X.
I hate how Derek always says that the creativity was gone after the third game. Mega Man 5 had a level and boss that shifted gravity. What else do you want? A rapid transition to 16-bits in the middle of a level?
I disagree with anyone who didn't love this game. I thought this game was great back in the day, and perhaps my favorite of the series. Unlike the others, this one was made in a way that a player could use the megabuster as an effective weapon for almost every boss. In contrast, regular shot is essentially ineffective in many scenarios, forcing you to learn the order to fight the bosses. Megaman 5 allowed a very skilled megaman player not to have to use the trial and error as much. Additionally, I thought much of the music was great. My ranking for the 6 games is 3, 5, 2, 1, 4, 6. I felt this game brought back the charm of megaman 3 that was lost in 4. That's just me.
I like every Mega man game for NES and I have them all, but my favourites are 2, 4 and 5. And yes I prefer Mega man 4 and 5 over the Mega man 3. But all 6 of them are good games. And who says something else is just not a true Mega man fan.
I think 2,3 and 4 where the best but all the other ones are GREAT to! I love the series I own all the NES and SNES games and will never get rid of them. Always just love to run through 1-6 on a old skool NES and i play them all seeing as i really run through them all pretty fast. But then again I grew up with these games !
Star man, & crystal man’s levels r good though. They r similar but different. U don’t see penguins on the moon in Gemini man’s stage or gravity in skull man’s or wood man’s stage
This game doesn't get the credit it deserves. Glad you gave it a positive review. I think people immediately underestimate this game because everyone and their mother says MM2 and MM3 are the best in the series. But really, this game is right up there. Solid music. Creative level designs. And a great twist on the story. And MM9 is arguably the best of the bunch. Yes, even better then the overrated MM2.
MM6 is my favorite, and I didnt play it til recently, not in my childhood. 2 was my favorite until I played 6. I love the Rush Jetpack and Power adapter, all the secrets and the weapons and Robot Master I think are cool. If u go back and play them I think that u might see the later games or at least 6 is right there with MM2. U also have the ability to charge and slide so thats a plus as well. The music is better in MM2 thou so ill give u that, but most games in general cant touch the music in MM2. I like how all the robot masters represent their respective countries. check out GameTheory's channel and watch Gaijin Goombas video about it. Its very interesting
Mega Andy What? 80 bucks? Why is so expensive? Don't get me wrong, I love this game, but 80 is too much. (I'm happy with my cheap and amazing Famicom version :P )
Noah Rentsch If you can, please do it because it can only go up in price :/ Or maybe you can buy the Famicom cartridges and a 64-Pin to 72-pin adapter for the NES, it's probably a lot cheaper.
Mega Man 2 is great, but I’m so sick of hearing how it’s the “best” in the series. There’s no charge shot, no slide, no Rush, etc. It’s a pretty bare bones game. All the NES games that came after it are better. To say otherwise is just nostalgia talkin’.
I wish I could love Mega man. I find it incredibly hard and the controls unbelievably difficult. It really bothers me that mega man cant shoot other than straight. I cant get passed my own suckiness to enjoy it
I used to be the same way. Then I played Mega Man X on a cousin's SNES and was blown away and wondered why I ever disliked the series. Now zi actually really APPRECIATE the difficulty. I'd recommend try ing Mega Man II on an emulator with save states first. That's what I did and wound up beating it. I have yet to beat it without out them yet, though xD
Obviously, no one was going to fall for Wiley didn't do it this time in Mega Man 5 because that had already been pulled in 4--which you didn't acknowledge in the review of that game or in this one. Yet you call the "Protoman did it" plot in 5 creative, when 4 tried it first with Cossack did it. So--was it not creative when 4 did it prior to 5 and is it creative in 5 when it's recycled from a prior game?
I never got the criticism, I mean Sonic 2, CD, 3 and Knuckles are all basically rehashes of the first one, and if we're being totally honest I think the Mega Man NES games had a little more variation between them in terms of gameplay, weapons, storyline, and level design.
In truth most games were like that during those days but in comparison to Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 it's night and day. Sonic 2 added the spin dash which the hailed as one of the best mechanics ever. It's like the charge shot or the dash for mega man. In a way it changed the gameplay enough to feel refined and refreshed.
My favorite Mega Man game to pick up and play when I have 45 minutes to kill is Mega Man 6. Sure, it's easy, sure, it's lacking in innovation and originality. But, the Rush jet adaptor kicks all kinds of ass! The music is stellar, and it features some of the most complex percussion in the franchise (listen to Knight Man's theme with its simulated cymbals, which, incidentally was so good that when the Rockman complete works edition of the music came out, nothing was changed other than the improved instruments). It's lots of fun and can be beaten in about an hour. Plus, it has one of the best endings in the series; certainly of the NES Mega Man games. As for Mega Man 5, it probably has some of the best level gimmicks in the series (Mega Man Unlimited notwithstanding). Hidden pathways in Napalm Man and Stone Man's levels, the jet ski in Wave Man's level, Gravity reversal, the elevator in Gyro Man's level, Star Man's low gravity (which plays like a typical under water level), the atmosphere in Charge Man's level (feeling like you're in constant motion on a train), Crystal Man's death traps. It's certainly not a bad game. Plus, the Super Arrow is awesome!
My favorites: 1. 5 2. 6 3. 2 4. 1 5. 3 6. 4 Haven't played 7-10 yet, so I can't say on those. Keep in mind I'm looking at this from an objective standpoint, not taking into account release date, staleness, or originality. Like they were all released at the same time.
MEGAMAN 5 To me... SUCKED BIG GIANT DINOSAUR BALLS! It has the boring music, not as colorful graphics and megaman 4 just like the music. Nerfed charge shot. No green, blue, and black charge shot. Not a 100% color swap. Just... Megaman 4 remains as my favourite for the music. The bosses still challange. The music sounds good in mono, while megaman 5 sounds great in stero.
Quinn The Quartz I just loved the ingenuity and innovation of the stages, from Star Man's stage with lower gravity, Gravity Man's stage with upside-down gameplay, and the Jet-skiing portion of Wave Man's stage. Also, I vastly preferred the whole "Proto Man is the villain" (but not really) plot twist than the obscure Russian scientist guy.
Linkfan99 I prefer the Gameboy versions of the music of Megaman 5. Like Stone man... I played all of the GB TITLES! Those titles are VERY OBSCURE IN THE MUSIC DEPARTMENT! But the NES Tittles megaman 5 does not have as good looking graphics as Megaman 4 or 6. Megaman 4 had snowing right outside the Cossack stages. The music is like a preparation. Megaman 4 introduced the charge shot. it brought back the Item one if known in America..... I consider it one of the better titles do to this. I can see the Megaman 5 levels appealing... Just the SNES megaman games ( Rockman and Forte ) and Rockman 7. Have the megaman awesomeness that it contains in the levels. Okay yes I am aware that Megaman and bass is the HARDEST and MOST UNFORGIVING MEGAMAN GAME IN THE SERIES!
Linkfan99 the jet sking part... I hate it.... Star Man? So this man is a power up now? Crystal man, Gemini man wants his level back * pictures gemini man with metal baseball bat *, Stone man, wow... Call yourself a Golem half robot thing... They are just... Bland... :L
I dislike both Mega Man 4 and 5. Mega Man 4 had lousy robot master designs, with the exception of Pharaoh Man and maybe Skull Man, lousy and forgettable music, and a predictable twist and bad ending. Mega Man 5 also had lousy robot master designs, terrible weapons, forgettable music, and also a predictable twist. Both of them do not hold well compared to parts 1-3. Although I will say that Mega Man 6 is pretty good compared to 4 and 5. I would recommend playing 2, 3, 6, 7, and 9.
I knew that people called 4 5 6 somehow "bad mega man games", yet 4 5 6 are wonderful and are even more improved than the first three.

Iron Tager its just his opinion dont be upset
Still platforming perfection.
Mega Man V also has some of the worst weapons in the history of the franchise.

I think it's genuinely nice to hear a reviewer vouge for this game. I really like it and a lot of people don't seem to like it :/
MM2 and 5 are my faves outta the 6 on NES.
Am i going crazy because the music and sounds featured in this review sound off
What does tipogrophy mean?

These guys are legends for reviewing basically every retro game.
I think 2,3 and 4 where the best but all the other ones are GREAT to! I love the series I own all the NES and SNES games and will never get rid of them. The Green Arrow youre so right
My favorite three Megaman games aren't the first three, they are coincidentally the even numbers, 2, 4, and 6.
bluesnagletooth high five bro me either
Agreed Either 1,2 and 4 or...........2,4 and 6
Star man, & crystal man’s levels r good though. They r similar but different. U don’t see penguins on the moon in Gemini man’s stage or gravity in skull man’s or wood man’s stage
Sonic 2 does have some level variety. Take the casino level for example. I don't think that's in the first one, nor is the spin-dash move.

Would you please use a different emulator.
Whatever your using screws up the sound and music. It's not supposed to sound like that.
Or just play the real game. Oh wait, it costs like 80 bucks as of this post. :(
Mega Andy What? 80 bucks? Why is so expensive? Don't get me wrong, I love this game, but 80 is too much.

Try playing a different Mega Man series. There are different gameplay styles, and some games are more accessible than others.
Mega Man 2. The Normal Difficulty is soo right. Plenty of health drops, and enemies don't take forever to kill.
Michael Costa dont worry practice makes perfect
I actually liked all the NES mega man games.

Except that they are very well designed with huge enemy variety and way better pacing than S1
This is a solid game. It's the easiest of the MM games, but I don't think that is a bad thing.

Disagreed with 4 tho. its Way better than the first two even tho i still say 3 is better. 3 is the best in the Nes library
Man this video's aged too, you can tell when you praise 2 as the best.
let me tell evryone something
nothing is perfect
