Are you a new reviewer? I must say that I already like you more than most of the other CGRundertow reviewers. You have a nice presentation voice and your points were well-made. I'll keep an eye out, (or better yet, an ear), for you in the future.
I'm finally glad to hear a POSITIVE review for Mega Man 7 for once (or non 8-bit classic Mega Mans in general). The most underrated game in the series and my personal favorite.
This is how a review should be. Straight to the point, subdued, and mostly objective. He is way less annoying, less exuberant, and less biased than that obvious Nintendo fanboy, Derek.
I, for one, really enjoyed Mega Man 7's 16-bit style, it made the world of Mega Man seem larger more alive in my opinion. I also feel the same way about Mega Man 8's 32-bit visuals. :D I really don't know why people obsess so much over Mega Man HAVING to be 8-bit every single time. :( I like the 8-bit Mega Man games too but why can't we just enjoy a game where the art style actually looks the way creators originally wanted them to look like in the various game's manuals and promo art but couldn't before due to the limitations of the hardware at the time? :\ The same goes for the gameplay mechanics. In Mega Man 8, Mega man could actually swim (finally!), now in the "newer" MM9 and MM10 he can't even charge his shots or slide. Its like instead of moving forward, he keeps getting pushed more and more backwards, and its really kind of sad, because the series can never evolve. :( Now Capcom doesn't even make any Mega Man games at all anymore, and the series might never again return. ;___;
I wouldn't quite say that, the most recent Mega Man game (Mega Man 10) was released just 4 years ago. Given, it's few and far between compared to back in the days, but it's certainly better than nothing. Also, the X series was great, I'm kinda sad they've stopped making Mega Man X games.
Agreed! There was so much more potential for level design out of 8 bit! Like slopes and more detailed backgrounds. I think they should stop copying Mega Man 2. Just because Mario can copy Mario 3 doesn't mean Mega Man can follow the copy technique.
This is actually my most favorite game in the classic Mega Man series, and I was kinda disappointed with the version that is played in "Mega Man Anniversary Collection". I was able to buy an original copy that I found at a used game store, which was $60. Totally worth it, if you ask me. ;D
is it bad that Mega Man 7 is my favorite of the regular Mega Man games? Mega Man Legends is by far my favorite Mega Man game, though. Next is Mega Man X.
They had a graphic for him ducking, but decided it would make the gameplay difficult given the size of Mega Man's sprite in the 8-bit days. It would be hard for players to tell which projectiles needed to be ducked and which needed to be jumped over. They opted for simplicity and the focus on "jump and shoot." Seeing as the old games were mainly single room platform obstacle courses the tight control worked to its advantage. The more mobile Mega Man X on the other hand has more open levels.
Yes, it was weird to look/play with the big characters but it was still charming. The last really classic Mega Man just upgraded. ...Mega Man 8 to me is too crowded with so many enemies at once in the screen.
Yea, this one is one of my favorites because it feels a lot more cinematic than the other games in the series and the stages play out like a movie. I also like how there are many collectables that make the game seem long. Some people like this game, and some people dont, but everyone has their own opinion.
I agree. It looks nice, but the gameplay suffered a lot. I mean, several bosses has hitboxes that's insane, then it's hard as heck to jump on to ladders in MM7 almost forcing you to do everything in the way, bad level design overall and wasn't as fun.
@@hanes2 the hitboxes for bosses and enemies are probably the best in the series bro. I ve runned and did challenges from this one several times and i cam guarantee thats not the case But yea, ladders are the problem with the platforming in this one Theres a very specific place in the middle where you can grab it and you can fall easily if you dont. The level design overall os excellent tho i really dont know what are you talking about From the pacing to the gimmicks and enemy positioning are WAY ahead of its predecessors (mostly) with maybe the exception of MM4 and 6
+Gender Neutral Chibi Thing I wished I can buy Rockman & Forte for my SNES by man is it one expensive game I think I'll go with the Bandai WonderSwan version it's quite a bit cheaper. And Rockman 7 is also quite pricey as well...I loved the art style of both R&F and 7 very anime like. Imagine all 6 previous Rockman games with the look of 7/R&F!
Barebare kun Eh idk man. They tried with Wily Wars on the Genesis and it didn't work out so well. Although I do agree they would look good in the art style. Why are you going by the Japanese games? The US versions might be cheaper.
I'm living in Thailand and 90% of all retro gaming items imported from Japan,Import anything from the States or Europe is too expensive so most old systems here are from Japan. And I can learn some Japanese along the way as well.
Althought I have always been more fan of Megaman X than main series I must admit that this is really good game and it was good start for normal Megaman in 16-bit.
To make the game harder than the current generation console games, that are full of cheat-to-win functions like auto aim, re-generating health and quick-time events
I have some hard feelings towards this game, mainly because X came first. When X was released it was everything the original games were and more. 7 on the other hand felt like a clumsy step back that wasn't as good as X and didn't feel as tight as the originals. It's not a bad game, it just doesn't live up to its pedigree.
I want to play this Megaman 7 on SNES and Mega Man & Bass on GBA. But which is worst ? I want to play 1st the worse and then the better one, but they both seem pretty good. I cant decide :/ anyone that knows plz help me !
What chu talkin bout Willis? This game is great... Thought not the best none of the megaman games are bad... I mean I love all of them with a passion and just because a series strays from a formula doesn't make it a bad game... Capcom was trying something new... And that's more then I can say for most developers today...
Well, yours not really an answer. I mean in many games of the same time of the first Megaman series the main character could duck. Why megaman couldn't? I always hated playing megaman because of that: it gave me a sense of annoying stiffness.
and I'm kicking myself for not buying this game when I had the chance to in the mid 90's, but it was actually kind of rare for me to find it even back then.
surething baby WII VC is still available even on the WII U but you have to go into the WII emulation then go to the VC through that. I don't know if its on the WII VC though.
I'm sorry, but if the gameplay I watched was your gameplay, you're just terrible at mega man games and wouldn't know a great mega man game if it hit you in the face. Not trying to offend, I just don't think you're qualified to give an opinion on why fans love mega man, why they dislike 7, and how it's different from the other games. MM7 was not a great game, it's such garbage. It's just a long drawn out process meant to artificially extend gameplay time by making you wait a lot. Long unskippable cutscenes, elemental effects that do nothing more than not let you do anything for a few seconds, and every boss is designed to be frustratingly defensive. junk man has the junk shield that protects him from damage, makes a junk block that works as a shield, and when he hits you with the junk shield, it stops you completely for a few seconds. Burst man shoots out bubbles that block shots, and if you get captured, you're pretty much not engaged in the battle for a few seconds and face a possible one hit kill. cloud man spends most of his time out of range of the mega buster, and is invulnerable when shooting lighting, and freeze man is constantly trying to freeze your feet in place. A lot of enemies that take more hits to kill, all your weapons have low rates of fire and slow you down significantly when using them. There are no quick weapons in MM7 aside from slash man, who is the worst offender in wasting your time. Spending most of his time offscreen, dropping almost unavoidable blobs on you that if they land on you, prevent you from shooting or jumping, and on the ground, stop you from walking! even his weakness slows down the fight dramatically!
reversealex what about my complaints suggest lack of skill? The game wastes your time. It's not difficult aside from the final boss fight, but it really leaves you sitting around doing nothing way too often. It's designed for that. Almost every stage has a section where you cannot control the pace of proceeding. Slash man has the T-rex that doesn't allow you to scroll, and the dino bots that you ride, which take their sweet time to even get up. Shade man has the elevator as does junk man's stage. Turbo man has the truck mid boss, cloud man has the floating cloud platforms ripped off from air man's stage, junk man has the propellor platforms from ice man's stage, bubble man has a midboss and the floating up the water section. The robot master rematches has an elevator for some reason to get between capsules instead of just letting you jump to them and fitting them in one room like every other mega man game. A few of these things is okay, but putting them in pretty much every stage is just annoying!
8 is way better than 7. Let me guess, it sucks because of the voice acting? it's a fun game, especially with the mega ball. not as great as the NES games, but just a fun casual MM game.
Are you a new reviewer? I must say that I already like you more than most of the other CGRundertow reviewers. You have a nice presentation voice and your points were well-made. I'll keep an eye out, (or better yet, an ear), for you in the future.
I wish they made another Mega Man game in this style. Its definitely the most underrated game in the series.
Have you played 8? It keeps this style and makes it even better
I'm finally glad to hear a POSITIVE review for Mega Man 7 for once (or non 8-bit classic Mega Mans in general). The most underrated game in the series and my personal favorite.

i watch all cgr reviews... they all rock. REAL reviewers. rock on guys

Really, Capcom doesn't make Mega Man anymore? As someone who grew up with Mega Man in the early 90's, that's shocking and disappointing news.
I wouldn't quite say that, the most recent Mega Man game (Mega Man 10) was released just 4 years ago. Given, it's few and far between compared to back in the days, but it's certainly better than nothing.

major SPOILERS at 1:45
thumb this up
No. Mega Man 6 did have the Power and Jet adapters, but they didn't have the rocket fist thing. It first appeared on Mega Man V for Game Boy.
Isn't this the guy that reviewed Dragon Warrior, If so I'm looking foward for more reviews from you, Hope you're here to stay
Still, Its not a bad game... One of my favorites in fact... Sure it has its flaws here and there but its still a great game...
Who is this new reviewer?!? Classic games, (Mega Man even!
what was the PC version styled as a famicon game?
Undertow, yall need to review the Zero series asap
They had a graphic for him ducking, but decided it would make the gameplay difficult given the size of Mega Man's sprite in the 8-bit days. Will they ever make a
co op megaman game
Yes, it was weird to look/play with the big characters but it was still charming. The last really classic Mega Man just upgraded.
...Mega Man 8 to me is too crowded with so many enemies at once in the screen.
I liked this review and all, but it would have been nice with an introduction to this new guy!
Yea, this one is one of my favorites because it feels a lot more cinematic than the other games in the series and the stages play out like a movie. I also like how there are many collectables that make the game seem long. Some people like this game, and some people dont, but everyone has their own opinion.
I'm not seeing a problem with the size of the sprites. I love Mega Man's revamped design.
it looks nice, plays like crap
I agree. It looks nice, but the gameplay suffered a lot. I mean, several bosses has hitboxes that's insane, then it's hard as heck to jump on to ladders in MM7 almost forcing you to do everything in the way, bad level design overall and wasn't as fun.

Why isn't this on the Wii VC?
The X series is the best, hands-down, but this one and Rockman & Forte (Mega Man and Bass) are also great games and worthy of being on the SNES.
Originally on the SFC/SNES though.
It was, sadly.
+Gender Neutral Chibi Thing

Good starter my ass. Says the hardest boss in megaman history( which is in this game)
7 and 8 are the only games I can play from the original series, the NES games were way too much for me, I might try again now
I like this better then the others since I'm not that hardcore in this series.
To make the game harder than the current generation console games, that are full of cheat-to-win functions like auto aim, re-generating health and quick-time events
can't wait for the mega man 8 review!
I have some hard feelings towards this game, mainly because X came first. When X was released it was everything the original games were and more. 7 on the other hand felt like a clumsy step back that wasn't as good as X and didn't feel as tight as the originals.

I always hated how it looked like MegaMan was laughing when he got hit in this game.
Yes very nice review. Would Like for him to do more :)
One of my favorite MegaMan game. The first being MegaMan3 :)
Best cgrundertow review thus far imo!
I want to play this Megaman 7 on SNES and Mega Man & Bass on GBA. But which is worst ? I want to play 1st the worse and then the better one, but they both seem pretty good. I cant decide :/ anyone that knows plz help me !
This one is my third favorite in the classic series.
that was a fan version
This guy Jonathan is cool! Nice review!
More from this reviewer please!

2nd favorite: MM2.

Love this game.
Great reviewer.
Anytime :)

A new guy huh lets break him in guys ;)
Is it me or whenever he takes damage in this game it looks like hes laughing.
i know. Its not a big deal. Thats why the :P is there.
This should have never been made. They should have made Mega Man X 16 bit and keep the original 8 bit like 9 and 10
I love playing mega man but I suck at every game
Don't be too hard on yourself, they're just really damn difficult.
so sad only one of this type!
Hi again
that would be mega man 6 for me.or mega man 8 for most other people
yeah they RockMan
The best one!
Nice voice!
Mega Man just does not belong outside of the 8-Bit world
What nonsense, the 16-bit Mega Man games are awesome, just awesome
But i agree that the 8-bit games certainly have their charms
ReadyFireFilms One of the most ridiculous thing I've heard in my life.
Great review/spoiler:P lol. it was good. but yeah watch the spoilers.
Anybody knows why megaman can't fuckin duck?
TJ take lessons from this guy.
I was wrong, Mega Man 8 is the worst. This is the 2nd worst. So terrible
I know, whats the name of it.
This began why the classic Mega Man series belongs in the 8-bit world.
so?
Mega Man 7 is easier? I found the end boss rather harsh and difficult.
Yeah, I struggled with that battle more than the other games, as well.
Which makes sense since a final boss is supposed to be hard right?
It really wasn't that bad
Well, yours not really an answer. I mean in many games of the same time of the first Megaman series the main character could duck. Why megaman couldn't? I always hated playing megaman because of that: it gave me a sense of annoying stiffness.
DR. Willy Van Wonka peeps
Anywhere I can buy this game for less than 50 bucks? Because 200 dollars on amazon right now is enough to make me scratch my face off :p
and I'm kicking myself for not buying this game when I had the chance to in the mid 90's, but it was actually kind of rare for me to find it even back then.
If you have a wii U you can get it for 7.99 now they just released it on the WII U VC
***** damn I don't have a Wii U but I have a Wii. can I still download games to the Wii or did they deactivate that feature?
surething baby
Wii VC is dead now. They're pushing 3DS and Wii U stuff now.
surething baby WII VC is still available even on the WII U but you have to go into the WII emulation then go to the VC through that. I don't know if its on the WII VC though.
rockman 7 fc
why
tj destroys this review in his sleep. don't be a noob

Erik Red some one sucks at mega man 7 hahaha
reversealex
yes, like I said, whomever's gameplay it is in the video
Erik Red no, I'm saying you must such at mega man 7 if you are saying these thing.

mm7 sucks but nothing, NOTHING is close to as bad as 8.

Worst game....of any series
Whys this the Megaman I grew up with and this is what we needed after 6 8 bit games
worse mega man ever made
