Who else has no problem being themselves in person but a lot of trouble on camera? It really hit home when you said a recording feels more permanent.

Damn, the whole video was filmed with one take and no single ummm! Thank you for sharing this!

    • @AndriusBalakirevas

I think he uses some sort of technic of when ummm comes on tong, instead of saying it, he make a silence pause and says it in his mind only :) At least that is what would I start with first.

    • @CaseyX726
      @CaseyX726 3 роки тому +9

@@AndriusBalakirevas I agree. Umm, uh, ah etc. is a way for your brain to take a pause and you feel like it's necessary to fill the silence. It's OK to be SILENT. Sometimes SILENCE is a real clincher. SILENCE makes people take notice.

I tried talking to the camera today and I actually feel like a total failure and will definitely not be posting what I did.
I try so hard to be myself but kept fumbling up my words, finding myself blank, frustrated , until the point that I just gave up and went home I will try again and again until I can and I will not give up. thank you for this video

I know this video is three years old but it’s incredibly helpful and reassures a lot of thoughts I had on this.
I’ve been shooting my first UA-cam video the last couple weeks and it’s been so awkward.
I am even someone who came from an acting background in college and thought that I would be able to do it easily. I then realized it’s complete different than acting because when acting, you’re typically directing you words towards someone and reacting to their reactions. A camera feels like I’m talking to a wall.

  • @GamerReality

The video format of a single take was inspiring, I realized you didn’t talk perfectly but you also talked authentically to prove the point

My immense frustration is, have a lot to offer to people, and I can't deliver it in the video. When I try to speak, my mind becomes empty and blocks me every time. I'm worried about how I look and how I speak because I am not a native English speaker. Especially, I need to remove strong paradigms from my mind. Now I understand that I need to practice, practice, practice and most important try to speak from the heart like to my best friend. Thanks a lot for this video because it encouraged me a lot and opened my eyes.

I have definitely had the "Who's that!?" moment, and am still trying to look/feel more like me on camera. My take away from this is to think a little more before shooting, breath a little more and worry less. Given that I'm Scottish, meaning I obviously talk too fast anyway, I'm determined to get to grips with it soon and let people meet the real me! Really helpful video Tom, thanks 👏🏻

I've been a subscriber for a very long time, and have really enjoyed your style and content. I am not able to travel much so I enjoy seeing all those exotic places you show. I have learned a lot of helpful tips as an amateur videographer, both from your example as well as you training videos. I have made all the mistakes of excessive zooming, panning, etc.. I have made only 1 video talking to the camera. It was addressed to one person as a personal thankyou for a kindness rendered. It was extremely difficult and I probably made a dozen takes before I decided to imagine the actual person sitting in front of me instead of the camera. I could then express my feelings from my heart. Thank you for all you do.

Thomas, thank you for doing this video. I recently started a UA-cam guitar channel and I do struggle with being myself in front of the camera. While I know what I want to present to my audience, I often have to remind myself to simply BE authentic. The concept seems simple enough, but once I press record, all bets are off. Anyways I'm rambling. Please keep up the great content. I am very glad that I stumbled upon your channel! Cheers

Great topic. I relate 100 percent. As a person who’s worked in video production for almost 2 decades I realize my weak spot occurs when in in front of a camera. I can speak to people with absolutely no fear or anxiety I person or over video chat or phone. But for some reason the camera really messes with my head. I don’t know why but I’ve never been able to learn how to deal with this issue and get better. I realize that other people have worked through this issue and it’s an admirable skill. The 39 day challenge is certainly interesting. I’m looking for solutions.

I am the kind of person that struggles a lot with thoughts about how I look or what I say when I talk, not realising that my authenticity is what matters the most. Vulnerability, not trying to be perfect, I think helps us to connect in a more authentic way with other people. Thank you for sharing.

I really liked that you made it about the most important thing. Without fluffing it with anything else. You made it a priority for us to value the authenticity and forget about the rest. The rest will fall into place, after the soul is found and expressed. Thank you for this. Hounding it for a 10min video is hard. U did that with your own authenticity. I’m glad I skipped every recommendation upon my “search” on UA-cam and clicked on yours. It looked different. It looked like you didn’t intent to post a video that simply did good for the algorithm. Thank you for proving it right
