Absolutne arcydzieło. To był moje drzwi do blacku i deathu. Wcześniej słuchałem jakichś pojedynczych metalowych zespołów typu Gojira, jednak bardziej rocka, punka, ale Mgła otworzyła mnie na tę muzykę.
This album somehow manages to destroy all optimism and joy of life from the first song on. Then it builds up something diffrent. The shining armor, which helps you to push forward anyway. Great journey.
I had never heard of this band or this album until I got a random "Recommended For You" suggestion from UA-cam of this video show up one day. I checked it out solely because I thought "Mgla" was a strange name. When I first heard the opening notes of this video, I really liked what I heard. The riff starting at 3:24 is what really sealed the deal for me. Got fucking goosebumps big time. Here it is, six months later, and this album is still in steady rotation on my playlist. 2017: I find Mgla and Kriegsmaschine. All: Great drums! Me: I like the whole music, but why the drums being special? Idk, ok if you say so... Fast drumming like everywhere in similar bands. 2021: Me after 2 years of learning drums with a professional teacher who plays everything including lots of jazz, teaching me all the notes etc, all by the book (I still don't play shit, but I don't care. I am too old anyway). Mgla and Kriegsmaschine drumming: it is f*cking unbelievable. I hear much more now. But also the overall music experience is great. Never bored when listening over and over to your albums.... Never! Simple, dark, beatifully cold on the surface. When you dive deeper an abyss of layers opens up. It is better than a glass of whisky and cigarette. It is like a trip to Heart of Darkness with Joseph Conrad to visit Colonel Kurtz but not in Africa, not in Vietnam with Coppola's Apocalypse Now. This time it is a trip into the depth of human mind and soul. The most terrifying one. What a ride!!!
РЕКВИЕМ - наш ответ на все ваши упрёки... Могильный обелиск, воздвигнутый нами, на уже ждущих вас свежих могилах ... Молитесь, ибо конец, как никогда близок
For black metal that is straight-forward (very fast, not "ambient-y"), also very well produced (not over-produced), I'd recommend Die Eisernen Verse by Negator and Haevn by Angantyr. But Black Metal is really much richer than that. There are plenty of sub genres that are worth to check out. Try Oathbreaker - Rheia The Ruins of Beverast - Rain Upon the Impure Panopticon - Autumn Eternal Trna - Any White Ward - Love Exchange Failure and many, many more...
I've always felt that the best black metal sounds more cold than evil. Transylvanian Hunger is a good example of that, and Mgla embody it to absolute perfection. It's like a cold wind blasting you in the face, and there's a beauty in that. There's a beauty in winter. Old-school purists probably won't like me saying it, and my warped perception of the world probably plays a part, but I find this so beautiful. It's an absolute masterpiece.
Szaam I never like black metal cause i thought the "evil norwegian" sound was everything black metal had. Then i found Mgla, and this album with With hearts toward none are in my top5 albums.
Marko Petrović Exactly, it gives weird kind of feeling of safety. Especially now in finland when its dark, wet and grey all the time this fits so well to listen when walking alone somewhere.
Every time i listen to this album it makes me feel different sensations. Sadness, joy, calm, rage, understanding, misunderstanding. It makes me come and go into my own mind, the universe around me and inside me. Really thank you Mgla, you are great. Thanks.
What not to love about this album? Lyrics, compositions, production, cover art and the overall artistic essence is just perfect. A new classic has been born! Hails from Bangladesh!
I saw this in my recommendations and thought "2.2 million views? Looks overrated" but when I got to listening I understood perfectly why this got so many views. They fucking earned it. This is brilliant, majestic, a tremendous masterpiece of Black Metal.
I totally agree. And seen them live couple of times at Steelfest... damn, they sound good. They feel good. Just can't describe really how it felt to be there. Seeing them. Hearing them. One of the best shows or gigs I have ever seen.
It is amazing how mgła is consistently my favourite band. It has been 5 years since i discovered them, my taste changed very much. Bands come and go for me but mgła consistantly stays at my top most listened songs. They dont get boring after dozens of listens and for me that's the defining quality of a timeless classic.
Blessed be the misery, the filth, the discord and the horror Blessed be the lies, the guilt, the fear, the woe and the betrayal For these ones didn't need any outside source For these ones come from within... I love these lines, so true.
@ROOTSCONTRA Nobody is saying that the band sucks, but drums are so enlightening here. And they cymbals are blended so nicely with a bit muted guitars. Love it!
Im listening to a lot of different genres but BM still is the only genre that makes me feel "home", that makes me feel understood and accepted. Sounds weird but I never felt like that whe listening to other music.
+Pilsatic BM is the genre that can achieve being depressing and beautiful at the same time the most out of all of the genres, just listen to Exercises in Futility VI 38:29
Swagsuke Uchiha Maybe I used my words wrong, sorry, English is not my first language, what I was trying to mean it's that it can be negative (just, black metal screams negativity and despair, the guitars and everything) and also it can be beautiful at the same time.
najlepszy! pomimo że behemoth dał znakomity show to Mgła zmiażdżyła ich występ i nie potrzebowali do tego ani jakiś cudacznych przebrań ani konfetti lecącego na publikę
This album helped me through the death of a close friend. The lyrics and theme on this album are a near perfect reflection of his struggles and eventual defeat. Drowned by his imagined sins and crushed by his shining armor.
So after listening to all the albums with Mdłości, Groza, and With Hearts Toward None standing out the most. I have come to the conclusion that Mgła is not music.. Oh no... This is the Mona Lisa of music. This is pure art.
How many Times i have come back to this album already. I'm addicted. How many of you thought :"Normally i don't listen to Black Metal" but this is fucking EPIC !!!! " 10/10. And normally I would say my main genre is Metalcore. Goosebumps again , this drumming and atmosphere.....
Get their merchandise buddies and you would be even more surprised. Exquisite design and only high quality materials. This band has everything in order to be among the greatest.
What bass? Seriously, can you HEAR a bass in this? Bass players in metal are absolutely unnecessary. 1. They ALWAYS play along with the rhythm guitar. 2. The bass is always lost in the mix and in most cases not even audible. 3. The low frequencies in Metal are totally occupied by the double bass drum. It becomes even more obvious when you see bands live that have no bass player and hear absolutely NO DIFFERENCE to all the bands who have a bass player. Bass players just take up space and contribute NOTHING to the music at all.
@@Warriorwithin09 As a person with ears i think i don't give a fuck what people who start sentences with "as a guitar player.." have to tell me. Fact is i have never heard any bass in Black Metal and in most Death Metal Bands the bass is pretty obsolete too because the guitars are always downtuned and the rhythm guitar already sounds like a bass. Also, as i stated before, most metal producers have for some strange reason deicided to put the bass drum BELOW the bass frequency wise. This makes absolutely no sense but in Metal and Rock it is standard. If you want an audible bass you need a beefy low end. But you can't mix it like that in Metal because a) metal bands always want that "carpet bombing" bass drum sound so this part of the frequencey spectrum is always occupied b) the bass is always too distorted, this produces too much overtones and gives the signal too much energy in the mix. Therefore you have to mix it with lower volume to the point where it's barely audible.
It's been 3 years now and I listen to this album like it came out yesterday... My little postcard from nowhere, my perfect chapter in the handbook for exercises in futility!!!! This album is immortal.
Magwa? I donno man. After many years of going down the BM rabbit hole I landed here. It ain't Burzum, but I dig it... I think. OK, this is the best BM band since 90's Norway scene. I just ordered their entire catalog. Love MuhGWAH.
@Nature Revenge yes, which is not the same as saying "the majority have an IQ of 100". The majority means "more than half", while the average in this case means the mean.
@Nature Revenge Majority and average are named differently because they're different concepts and are frequently abused by media to support their narrative/agenda/view. Just imagine 3 people, 2 unemployed and homeless and one guy with 3 million net worth and 3 villas. On average everyone is millionaire and has villa but majority has nothing.
Exercises in futility V makes me crazy every time I hear. This is still going on a year later. I can not stop. This is an album that god can not make. The most intelligent black metal. amazing.
Most of the comments speak about V, but you people should really listen to the number 6. The growing inside this album hits its peak. And the lyrics then... a total masterpiece.
VI lyrics are nihilistic misanthropic poetry, deep and resonating. First time i heard the song i couldn't hear the music, i was sucked in from the lyrics.
If i had one album that I must choose for the rest of the decade it would be this for sure. Maybe for rest of my life too. This is the fucking beautiful masterpiece! Every single song is epic!
I'we been a metalhead pretty much my entire life. My older brother introduced me to Judas Priest when I was 1 year old back in the 80's. I have never really been a fan of Black Metal but little over a year ago I discoverd the black metal band Dissection and I loved it right away. This is the second black metal band I really enjoy! Cheers from Norway!
This is art in its purest, blackest form. Guitar melodies, drumming, vocals, philosophical nihilistic lyrics. The great truth is there isn't one, but Mgła!
+Oakenbull totally agree. I mean in all fairness the whole album is superb but listening to the album in the background as i did work on my computer AND then this track comes on? My ears perked up straight away. A stupendous finisher for sure
+Oakenbull It perfectly captures the beautifully dark and despairing tone of the whole album. Their strongest track on the album, and a perfect way to close it.
greetings from Germany our neigbhors are making so insane music, i just cant stop hear this over and over again! I love you Mgła you opend my heart for Black Metal

I'm so happy I found this band
1. Exercises In Futility I
The great truth is there isn't one
And it only gets worse since that conclusion
The irony of being an extension to nothing
And the force of inertia is now a vital factor
And there is despair underneath each and every action
Each and every attempt to pierce the armour of numbness
Burning bridges becomes a habit to support
And the front line expands like there's no tomorrow
I envy the maggots
Their stuff at least sticks together
Better than laudations of misinformed seers
And those are lengthy annals of shame that we work with
It's like dumping dead meat at the brink of Styx
With a barge that we made of what was left of Yggdrasil
After veterans of spiritual revolts were done with their armchairs
And I don't even remember which brink is which
The odour of sanctity is just refined stench of existence
Shining pearl of Augeas' crown pales in comparison
And there is despair underneath each and every action
Each and every attempt to pierce the armour of numbness
Burning bridges becomes a habit to support
And the front line expands like there's no tomorrow
The grotesque eagles of misfortune, well fed on thanatos, sit still
It's the dignity of scavengers at the ever growing garbage dump of life
There is something about the rigid posture of a proper, authentic blind
As if extended arms reached to pass his blindness onto others
2. Exercises In Futility II
There is a style in total denial
A certain elegance of fear
Hesychasm is so much convenient
With the desert within ourselves
Stray dogs lead disciples of Oedipus
As the shrouds gently cover
Exquisite paroxysms of ruin
And well mannered choking on nothingness
Nether
The cracks in soma, psyche and pneuma
Are as one way mirrors
It's one well lit desert
And the pyres extend beyond the horizon
And cold flames flicker upon ashes of hope
Through hallways carved in a crystal
On to the uttermost parts of the pit
Jostling through cadavers of former selves
You would swear there's amusement in the eyes of the dead
Again, nether
A reward for the perseverant:
Unceasing howling of the heart
Bound to walk this path
Nether, again, nether - now and forever
I wish it was classic fire and brimstone
But clearly there is a very special plan
Paved with havoc and shattered virtues
As if there were any other paths
With every dream
The pyres grow taller
An enemy of trust
A misled scholar
Stray philanthrope
In vain endeavor
Walk this path
Now and forever
3. Exercises In Futility III
We hold an honorary degree in natural science
For stratigraphy of rock bottom
The layers were aplenty, as above, so below
But mostly below
The research is vast, thorough and firsthand
And it's a broad array of sources
For the complete guide to spiritual asshole of the world
A tour in words, sounds and pictures
Of the true south of nadir
Through burial grounds for broken dreams and crippled souls
The graves are shallow
We would dig them up with our bare hands
Just to rise above for a split second
And see them basked in the light of a dead sun
Beneath the sky of shit
And then take notes
Meticulously
We would consume deathbed confessions
Create a language of fading words
For this night is without end
We would compute dynamics of grief
And logic of venom, and we would listen
As history is written on cold skin of prophets
With vulture claws soaked in rat saliva
For this night is without end
4. Exercises In Futility IV
Some are born without a purpose
Other than prolonged demise in ornate ways
Most of the time it's pathetic, quick and useless
And good neighbours don't bother digging up the graves
It's rows upon rows of kings, whores and pawns
And the storm is rolling
The vengeful and the bitter reach out for their fix
Rebels never realized that their angst was a mockery
Every empire
Every nation
Every tribe
Thought it would end
In a bit more decent way
It is an unlikely alliance of assorted failures
Various degrees of deceit, doomsday prophets
The clenched teeth, the vinegar down the veins
A stylish pit right next to Judas, Brutus and Cassius
Every empire
Every nation
Every tribe
Thought it would end
In a bit more decent way
Every prophet
Every ruler
Every seer
Will chew on this ruin
And repeat ad nauseam
5. Exercises In Futility V
Blessed be the tailors
The masks are cut to fit
Blessed be the woodworkers
The crosses and the gallows
Blessed be the forgers of iron
And the spikes and the barbwire
Blessed be the stone cutters
It took a quarry to bury the dreams
Blessed be the misery, the filth, the discord and the horror
Blessed be the lies, the guilt, the fear, the woe and the betrayal
For these ones didn't need any outside source
For these ones come from within
And here it is
Grown from within
An invincible stronghold
Adorned with death
A suit of shining armour
Replaced the skin
And calligraphed sins
Are as coat of arms
Hollow
6. Exercises In Futility VI
As if you didn't know how it feels to lose
As if you didn't know how it feels to lose at dice with fate
At least have some dignity
As if it wasn't a lifetime spent on connecting the dots
There was no pattern
As if the irony was more than a defense mechanism
And we could actually laugh for a change
As if steel hooks in our backs were more than a nuisance
And we could actually feel something
Self crucified - missed the right tree
Tore the wrong eye out
The hissing of hellfire
Self crucified - missed the right tree
For this I have gained a victory
I burn as I ought to
As if everything was to be made right one day
Dreams don't come true for people like us
As if the gods were bored with peace in our hearts
And their fingers are itchy
As if we never broke people out of sheer boredom
And slept calmly among the wastes
And then we see bright and clear
As if we would be someone else
While mindlessly wandering through the mountains
As if we would be someone better
Expelling purgatory in Latin alphabet
Self crucified - missed the right tree
Tore the wrong eye out
The hissing of hellfire
Self crucified - missed the right tree
For this I have gained a victory
I burn as I ought to
As if all this was something more
Than another footnote on a postcard from nowhere
Another chapter in the handbook for exercises in futility

I've never heard such great lyrics interact so beautifully with music.
A masterpiece!
Exercises in futility V is really brilliant
My personal favorite. I'm surprised it's not getting more attention. V, I, and II are the best songs IMO.
whell you just said my thooth!
@@theabsolute23 yes. I, II, V, VI
Period.
Listen to drummers Dominator and Stormblast. Especially Nordjevel's last album Gnavol and Thunderbolt's last two records.

Exercises in futility V speaks to my soul
After 30 years of living, this album has influenced me the most.
@@redlikewater2453 That's nice to here and it's a great record without a doubt. But there's much more out there!
@@martinparidon9056 What albums would you recommend buddy? I want to delve deeper :)
Try
Oathbreaker - Rheia
The Ruins of Beverast - Rain Upon the Impure
Panopticon - Autumn Eternal
Trna - Any
White Ward - Love Exchange Failure
and many, many more...
The drummer is killing it! Guitars are so groovy... God damn that is absolutely beautiful, they nailed it! Love it!!!
I'll listen to this album probably 50 times a year for the rest of my life
Me too brother
@@bewnik9468 Got these guys tatted on me right on my forearm, MGLA forever
Same. Musically and lyrically this album speaks to me more than any I've heard.
You got it absolutely right
winter is beautiful.
"like a cold win blasting you in the face"
that's exactly how I would describe mgla
Every time i listen to this album it makes me feel different sensations. Sadness, joy, calm, rage, understanding, misunderstanding. It makes me come and go into my own mind, the universe around me and inside me. Really thank you Mgla, you are great. Thanks.
Wow! never heard of MGLA before, now I'm a fan! this is what I'm looking for in black metal!
+Gerald Perez you have to check out their previous album then, one of my favorite metal albums of any genre
Yes, you definitely have to listen to all their stuff, it's fucking great. check also other bands from Poland, Polish scene is great

What not to love about this album? Lyrics, compositions, production, cover art and the overall artistic essence is just perfect. A new classic has been born! Hails from Bangladesh!

It's a very good album

Perfect album, drums, guitars bass and vocal /lyrics on highest level. Amazing.
This drummer has some gnarly chops. Really awesome ride work.

BLACK METAL PLANET!
Its because its to beatiful!
The cymbal work is an art in itself on this album.
omg yes
as a former drummer I can just agree.
This album is amazing. Musicianship and song writing are off the charts. Those are some mega talented dudes.
It is amazing how mgła is consistently my favourite band. It has been 5 years since i discovered them, my taste changed very much. Bands come and go for me but mgła consistantly stays at my top most listened songs. They dont get boring after dozens of listens and for me that's the defining quality of a timeless classic.

The guitar riffs are great but it is really the drummer that makes this band special, music-wise. Hail Darkside !
That can be said about all the great bm bands or bm in general
@@bergkajian1257 Not really. Darkthrone.
Cymbals are so effing great! Шикардоссс!!!
@ROOTSCONTRA Nobody is saying that the band sucks, but drums are so enlightening here. And they cymbals are blended so nicely with a bit muted guitars. Love it!
Exactly. Even when the kick is almost absent (mixing issue), drums are the plus of this band.
Literally had this reapeating all morning. Masterful!
This album stands up to many of the albums from the 90's when the strongest black metal was released. A modern classic that creates great memories
It surpasses many, if not, MOST of the old releases imo.
+Brian Hughes checkout "Void Omnia"
I could listen to this album everyday forever and it would never get old. Absolute fucking masterpiece
Im listening to a lot of different genres but BM still is the only genre that makes me feel "home", that makes me feel understood and accepted. Sounds weird but I never felt like that whe listening to other music.
+Pilsatic I feel you, man!
+Pilsatic BM is the genre that can achieve being depressing and beautiful at the same time the most out of all of the genres, just listen to Exercises in Futility VI 38:29
I feel that way with bands like electric wizard, godflesh, swans..
+francompalmieri bm isn't supposed to be depressing. that would be depressive black metal.
Swagsuke Uchiha Maybe I used my words wrong, sorry, English is not my first language, what I was trying to mean it's that it can be negative (just, black metal screams negativity and despair, the guitars and everything) and also it can be beautiful at the same time.
The alchemy of this album is just perfect. Solid as a rock. I'm buying the LP!
they gave the best show in Brutal Assault this year, so fuckin' powerful
tak jest!
najlepszy! pomimo że behemoth dał znakomity show to Mgła zmiażdżyła ich występ i nie potrzebowali do tego ani jakiś cudacznych przebrań ani konfetti lecącego na publikę

The greatest album is Hvis lyset tar oss.

I still remember the day these hymns fell on my ears. Life has never been the same since.
I cant get enough of exercises in futility II... this album is perfection.
I was listening to II when i read your comment :))
Yes
The guitar work . the drums. The bass. The vocals. The lyrics. My god
God Tier.
@@nikonerf8410 omg as a guitar player i think your comment is ignorant and stupid.
But you can't mix it like that in Metal because a) metal bands always want that "carpet bombing" bass drum sound so this part of the frequencey spectrum is always occupied
b) the bass is always too distorted, this produces too much overtones and gives the signal too much energy in the mix. Therefore you have to mix it with lower volume to the point where it's barely audible.
@@nikonerf8410 as just a person with ears not contributing nothing to music but negative opinions you should keep your bs to yourself cheers
It's been 3 years now and I listen to this album like it came out yesterday... My little postcard from nowhere, my perfect chapter in the handbook for exercises in futility!!!! This album is immortal.
The fifth song has such a repetitive ending, yet it flows perfectly with all the drumming variations. A real achievement.

Amazing to see a black metal album with over 3 million views. This gives me hope for humanity.
More views = less kvlt
The majority doesn't have an IQ of 100 . This is not how normal distribution works.
@Nature Revenge yes, which is not the same as saying "the majority have an IQ of 100". The majority means "more than half", while the average in this case means the mean.
@@Ratamahatta12345 True, but his point still stands.

This is an album that god can not make.
The most intelligent black metal. amazing.
Haunting, Sinister, Crushing, Beautiful, Visceral, Driving, Cold, Uncompromising Blackened Art. HAIL
Most of the comments speak about V, but you people should really listen to the number 6. The growing inside this album hits its peak. And the lyrics then... a total masterpiece.
Those 2 songs together, back to back, bring you on an amazing black metal journey. I can't get enough of VI. To me it's the perfect black metal song.
VI lyrics are nihilistic misanthropic poetry, deep and resonating. First time i heard the song i couldn't hear the music, i was sucked in from the lyrics.
IV is really underrated. EVERY EMPIRE EVERY TRIBE!
I agree
I love how the drums sounds, they're super organic!
If i had one album that I must choose for the rest of the decade it would be this for sure. Maybe for rest of my life too. This is the fucking beautiful masterpiece! Every single song is epic!
