I had both procedures done. Urolift didn't work for me and was the most painful thing I ever experienced. I had the Rezum procedure done and had no pain and it worked perfectly.
About 18 months ago my urologist told me that Urolift was a fairly young procedure and suggested I have a consult with another urologist in the Sacramento community that had done a large number of Urolifts. I met with the urologist she recommended who had done several hundred Urolift procedures. He said the procedure does not work very well and the majority of his patients had the symptoms recur within a year or less. He said essentially the anchors pull out of the prostate tissue. Then my health care facility got a new urologist who purportedly had done lots of these procedures and he was very bullish; he said he had done several hundred and all of his patients we're happy after several years so I went ahead and had the procedure. Well less than one year after the Urolift my symptoms were worse than before the procedure.
Yup, my urolift lasted only 1 1/2- years...then the TURP. As far as I'm concerned it's useless
You never listen from HoLep???????
Yikes. I was thinking that I wish I had it done instead of turp
Docs who do a lot of a procedure, making a lot of money from it, are more likely to overstate benefits. Almost all doctors understate risks or meds and surgeries.
Blood pa plp
Dr Malik, I had an office urolift 2 1/2 years ago. It was the most painful thing I ever encountered. Each staple was the end of the world for me and never saw another urologist till now. Vowing nobody would ever hurt me again like that. I go to surgery tomorrow to remove a staple from my bladder and fragments in urethra. It’s not all that especially done under extreme duress
Had the procedure in ‘20; inadequate staples were introduced so had it repeated, but the procedure ultimately just didn’t work. Back on the tamsulosin but really don’t want to be.
For me the worst part was the post op after the 2nd where I blocked up (blood clot) and had to have a catheter - almost worse than the procedure itself. I totally relate to your post. Hope the surgery gave you some relief.
I also had urolift then rezum. I now have staples against my bladder causing extreme pain when the bladder fills or empty's. Who did the removal for you? I can not find a uro that will do it.
Very informative.
I'm on my 3rd urologist. My PSA has steadily increased for 2 years. Started st 4.5 and increased. The first urologist wanted to take a wait and see approach.
The second urologist after my PSA went from 5 to 7.1 also decided to take a wait and see approach!!!
The third urologist was stunned and immediately scheduled a biopsy because he said a PSA of 7 is dangerous high.
My mother died of ovarian cancer at the age of 39 because she trusted her doctor's decision to take a wait and see approach.
My aunt nagged her for almost a year to get a second opinion. When she did, it was stage 4 and spread. She died at 39.
I just don't trust doctors anymore. My wife had COVID in 2020 and I dang near had to threaten the doctor to call in a Z-Pack .....she wanted me to continue to monitor her. By the 5th day, my wife looked like she wasn't going to make it. I told the doctor that I was going to have to put her in the hospital.
The doctor reluctantly call in the Z-Pack and 24 hours later my wife was up and walking around.
I have lost faith in doctors....
Also many of them are very rude to their patients!
Why would an antibiotic help with a viral infection
@@maidenlesstarnished8816
It was recommended by doctors because it help the patient fight the symptoms....it did not cure COVID of course, but my wife felt better within 24 hours.
Antibiotics are often prescribed for viral infections to help the body fight secondary infections that may occur since the body is fighting the initial viral infection
There's more that can be done than "wait and see" and before jumping to a biopsy. Watchful waiting is a legitimate course of action when the psa is below 10, they do some lab tests and take a few other things into consideration, 4k score, free psa ratio, size of the prostate, how quick the psa score is rising, results of digital rectal exam, family history of prostate cancer, and another lab test or two that I can't think of. How quick did your psa increase from 4.5 to 7.1? What was your percent of free psa?
Great video, here's my story, I had the Eurolift done a month ago, chose it because from what I read, it had shorter recovery & less side effects, went under general anesthesia, woke up with a catheter, was told 7 implants were inserted, because of excessive bleeding, I had to keep the catheter in for 2 days instead of 1. Went home for 3 days of what I call hell. Always felt like I had to pee, then started getting cramps in my bladder, like it was trying to push out the catheter, called the doc, they put me on a script called Pyridium which I think helped a bit. Had the procedure on a Friday, pulled out the catheter on Sunday morning (couldn't wait any longer) cramps subsided but still felt like I had to pee all of the time, called the doc, went in for an ultrasound to see if I was emptying completely, which I was. Things gradually got better on Tuesday and there on. Today I feel great, flow feels like 100%. We will see about long term. Just be aware, I am in a dispute with the insurance co. and medical facility, apparently the insurance co. considers this experimental. Hope this helps someone who is thinking about it.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m possibly going to get this one next month. We shall see what the urologist says next week. As far as the insurance company we’ll they try to weasel their way out of a lot. Even though we are paying for it.
guess it would be normal to go thru a couple days of hell for the end result hope it lasts for you. its not experimental Medicare approves it
Urolift is only a temporary procedure. My had the procure done twice, he still wears a subpubic catheter. I am afraid of TURP but maybe that’s an answer.
@@mcgch46e80 that’s what my hesitation is because the prostate will continue to grow. So rather than getting the device I’m taking supplements: pumpkin seed oil, zinc, and saw palmetto. And I’m consuming a lot less sugar. Have to see in a few months if there is any change.
My urolift was cover by Medicare and insurance
Dr: Rena thank you! You continue to make a difference.🌹
How does one person have so much knowledge it’s amazing! Thank you for the educational videos every week.
I had the urolift procedure about six months ago and have had no issues. As I am only 52 years old I did not want the TURP procedure. Thanks Doc
Thank you Dr. Malik , for your easy to understand briefing. Unfortunately my urologist did not give me the complete briefing on these procedures. I believe that educating a patient, gives the patient more choices in there personal health options. Thanks again, I really appreciate your help with our overall health options. 👍👍👍😁😁😁😁
This is VERY IMPORTANT info! In 2013 I had the painful and barbaric TURP procedure for BPH. I lost all ability to ejaculate - which reduces orgasmic pleasure by half - and concurrently developed erectile dysfunction (ED). My (former) urologist simply dismissed my post-op complaints and said the TURP can’t cause ED…which the literature showed was a risk. Needless to say I switched urologists but the damage was done. And I will never forget the prolonged PAIN, bloody urine, and pelvic discomfort that lasted for about 3 months. If your urologist asks you to consent for a “trans-urethral resection procedure” (TURP) get an immediate 2nd opinion from another urologist IN A DIFFERENT PRACTICE / MEDICAL GROUP because I’ve learned the hard way (over a decade with 2 surgeries plus multiple treatment for ED) that members of the same practice will rarely recommend anything one of the partners has recommended. P.S.: if drugs like Cialis and Viagra no longer help, try the injectable drugs (e.g.: Trimix) because the inflatable prosthesis surgery is horribly painful and, in my case, caused a loss of length - 2 inches - that I no longer can remain inside my wife for intercourse. Sensation is also decreased by half.
So sad for you brother. Doctors like TURP because it is quick and easy money. A more refined approach using TURIS PLASMA they won’t do because it takes too long and they have a golf appointment to get to. For ED you could try cock rings or even a shoe lace wound around the base it can work for you. Good luck. TURIS possible but they excavate just as much these days. They don’t tell you they remove over a third of the volume inside the Prostste no wonder you get retrograde ejaculation and lose most of the feeling.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience. As a 62 year old man with a healthy sex life and recent prostrate issues I am concerned about the future
I feel bad for you! Thank you for the information

Dr. Malik thanks for encapsulating both procedures so completely.
DR Rena Malik, M.D. you're the best at giving good information ❤❤
I had Urolift in January 2022. Very pleased with the results.
Had a UroLift representative observing the whole procedure along with the medical team. It works as advertised for me.
They go in the or to teach the urologist how to do the procedure and sell their product.
I haven't heard of too many Urolifts lasting over one or two years
I had the Rezum procedure done by Dr. Richard Bevan-Thomas at Arlington, Tx. last year and the results are fantastic, The procedure only took about 15 minutes, and with the local anesthetic the pain was very minimal. I'm glad I had it done; The reason I chose Rezum instead of Urolift is because I didn't want any foreign object left inside my body. It's important to choose a Doctor who is experienced doing the procedure. I have had no side-effects or pain whatsoever. The Rezum procedure has done for me everything it's advertised to do.
How are you doing? Any sexual issues?
Were you on meds before the procedure? If so, were they not working?
@@davidd9045 I was on Nitrous oxide during the procedure which I highly recommend, also the doctor gives the patient a local anesthetic before doing the procedure which also helps a lot.

I just completed the Rezum procedure 35 days ago. Obviously, it's too early to say how I will be 3-5 years from now but it was a fast process and done in the MD's office. The first 30 days were for me a little challenging with very frequent painful urges to pee w/ some bleeding day and nite. I was advised to expect the post-procedure recovery to be several weeks before I saw a change. On the 30th day, it changed dramatically for the better most of the symptoms ceased over nite.
Thanks for sharing, I’m slowly drifting to getting this done and first hand experiences help, brother!
I just had green light laser procedure. Experiencing similar issues but it's only been 10 days. I hope my 30 day milestone is as good as your experience.
Not all Doctor's are helpful, personally I had too wait. And see a alternate Doctor. Plus it's helpful to study up a bit, and look a videos by Dr. Malik and others to give yourself a better understanding on what your treatment options are, good luck with your health care providers.👍👍👍😁😁
L E R, I had the same effects you did, although mine only lasted about two weeks after the catheter was removed, from then on recovery was quick and the Rezum procedure is working just as they advertise it to be.
5 years later I'm good with the REZUM procedure. I was in and out within 45 minutes, I wore a catheter bag for 5 days, after that no discomfort, no more getting up twice a night anymore. REZUM is the best method I have read about. As for the little plastic devices, I couldn't get past having 2 needles that close to the family jewels.
My brother had rezum years ago. Worked like a charm and no bothersome side effects
Thank you, Dr. Malik, your detailed videos are far more helpful than any in office discussion that I have had with urologists. My discussions with these doctors have been so bad they don't even explain clearly and straight forwardly what my condition was and what choices of treatments were available. This 7.5-minute video is perfect. Thanks again for your help.
My urologist didn't explain anything, I had no idea what was happening. I changed urologist, and then, even didn't get a Dr., only a nurse. He was even less informative. I just told him a couple days ago, I needed to get this procedure. He said, "what procedure", as tho he never heard of it. I did get an appt. tho, to have it done, in a few weeks.
@@arthurzengeler6909 That's soooo bad considering how important and life changing this procedure can be and how important our sexuality is for us in our life.
Worst doctors in the United States is the urologist and the dentist
Yes!!! So true!!!! About both! But especially the former!!!!!! They just don’t know what they are doing!!! Is it any better in other countries????
Good luck sir!!!!
I've seen two urologists. Neither have mentioned either of these procedures. Thank you for taking time to explain this info, Dr. Rena!
Thank you for this video. I’ve had a problem for 12yrs or so with slow flow, not emptying bladder (or even close they said). Now I have a thickened bladder wall due to the mentioned problems. These 2 choices in your video what were given to me as well removing prostate…that is not going to happen. So I’ve been gathering as much information as possible to make a decision. Thanks again.
I had Urolift about 3 years ago and it went well. Very happy with it. I’m almost 70 and still have some issues but glad I had the procedure.
At 72 I got a Urolift in January 2020. 40% fewer times/day and only get up 1-3 times each night. About a year ago I started taking magnesium supplements which also helped. Still pee too often but it's tolerable.
@@David_144 Hi, im suppsed to have an enlarged prostate but can ejaculate no problem and dont need to get up at all so having said that did you only have problems of not being able to that when you knew there was a prostate problem as the only symtom i have is poor flow?
Over the years I found myself peeing more often and with a bit more effort. When it got to be too disruptive I went to a urologist who determined that I had an enlarged prostate and prescribed medications. Not being satisfied I went to a different doctor who did the urolift. Got about 40% better (lower frequency)@@gtibruce
I ReZum 3 years ago, and my experience was somewhat similar, the recovery immediately after the procedure was not a straight line improvement. It wasn’t until all the ablated tissue was eliminated in the urine did things get better. After that, I was back to being a younger man with strong stream, easy flow. It has made a big improvement in my quality of life. Wish I had found about the procedure years ago.
🚽 in urine is always scary 😨
Were you on meds before you did the procedure?
The rezum procedure can take six months to be effective, surely you were told this would be the case

Insignificant imo and could be caused by various things. One thing I was told by my doctor is that having sex within a couple days of the test will increase the result. He recommended abstaining for 2-3 days.

Thank You Dr. for the honesty. It has been long overdue in Canada.
I'm not yet ready to take the risk of ending up in a worse situation than just the nuisance aspects of bhp. I hope they come up with procedures with higher percentages of success. As in 100% 😂
I'm considering REZUM at the recommendation of my urologist, although I my prostate is not particularly enlarged. I experience a lot of prostate pain and urine retention. Also complicating matters is a diagnosis of prostate cancer. Would love to pick Dr. Malik's brain to determine whether REZUM is wise for someone in my situation. Superior video. I had urolift, worked well, but about 2 years later I found I was retaining high amounts of urine after urinating. It was fairly new when I had it done, urologist said they were finding it only lasted a couple years for a lot of guys. had Rezum done and doing great after a few years

@Rena Malik, M.D. While you're on the prostate subject: Non bacterial prostatitis was a miserably perplexing experience. Incredulously, I was unable to get a clear diagnosis nor efficacious treatment from several urologists at renown teaching hospitals. The pelvic floor dysfunction & related PT may help some patients but is not the panacea for all. Your adept thoughts on a NBP segment would be appreciated.
what were your symptoms and how did they diagnose you?
Bravo Dr. Malik!
Hi,excellent video with very important information, thank you Dr.Rena .God Bless 🙏❤️👍
I am of the opinion that the HoLEP (Holmium laser enucleation of the pros.) operation is superior to the two methods under discussion. The operation is not given in many hospitals, and it does require a rigorous learning curve to master. I left the hospital (Vanderbilt) after only one night, and the only mildly bothersome after affect was a momentary twinge after urination for 3 days.
The results were wonderful, with an enlarged space in the prostate for proper urination. Ejaculate was reduced but with my vasectomy that was not a problem since my baby creation days are long gone.
What about side effects such as urinary incontinence and ED?
I had Urolift done...no big deal...I LOVE IT!! Saw an old friend at a class reunion. He had had it done....much difficulty. So my take is the Dr. doing it makes a difference.

Very informative. Thanks, Dr. Malik.
I haven't had the best luck with urologists. Most of the ones I've seen have been militantly aggressive in everything they wanted to do and because I didn't want to do most of the stuff they pushed, I was told not to come back. I have chronic bacterial prostatitis that frequently flares up with a UTI and it took forever to be correctly diagnosed. Most of the urologists immediately went the cancer route without listening to me but, funny thing, 12 years later no sign of cancer but they sure marketed their preferred treatments. Add to that the fact that I was born with a hyperspadia and underwent several surgeries to correct it things for me just are not normal. Since the surgeries as a toddler, I've NEVER had a strong stream, ever but I sure get an earful about it being a sign. Every time the prostatitis flares up my PSA skyrockets quickly and I'm sick and tired of urologists salivating over biopsying my prostate during that flare up. Last time it went to 7.86 but after six weeks of antibiotics it was a whopping 1.0 yet the demands to biopsy continued until I fired the doctor. I know I have some symptoms of BHP but I really don't suffer that much from it. Because of the repair surgeries I sit to pee but when I have to give a urine sample I stand and when that happens I'm very hesitant, it stops and starts and I know I don't completely empty the bladder but I had always attributed that to surgeries, I have no problem sitting. Point is, Dr. Malik you explain things very thoroughly and give options, I wish you were my urologist.
Experienced essentially the same. Indifference. A huge bias towards TURP.
I agree I had the same experience. When I would complain about not getting the help I needed or asked too many questions the doc fired me. Happened twice. They want to do barbaric unproven procedures and rack up the most points for doing the most yet they dont want to answer your questions! Deplorable. They are a disgrace to the profession. Doctors dont care about their patients anymore it is quite obvious. Those are the ones that totally suck and that is the majority of them now days sadly. Shame! These are painful procedures with risks that they charge an arm and a leg for and half the time do not help and may even harm.
I mean read some of these testimonies. It's all over the board. Even this video makes it sound like a walk in the park with very little risk. It is all bs! They dont tell you the truth.

First, after several years of urinating problems and Flomax my Urologist suggested a Urolift. I agreed and they tried the procedure. The Urolift rep was present. Here's the thing with the Lift... if the prostate material around the urethra is irregular or uneven the titanium bars won't be able to be installed correctly to enlarge the passage. They got one done right then gave up. I carry a card for when I set off the TSA warning or get an MRI. Two weeks later I had a TURP. It's a more difficult recovery but works. My experience was pretty uneventful. It was done in the Urologist's office. they put me under for about 30 minutes and the procedure was over. I was catheterized while I was still under and wore a bag around my thigh for 5 days. I returned to my doctor's office, had the catheter removed and I was done. I experienced no pain, only a small bit of blood initially, to be expected, but no visible discomfort. Good luck! You're going to feel better.
Thk u Eric I appreciate your reply
Very clear presentation of some very valuable information.
Thank you doctor Malik
I had a cystoscopy before I was to have the Rezum procedure. I ended up with a UTI which caused me to have kidney failure and a heart attack. I'm fortunate to still be alive after my urologist POS messed up. I'LL PASS!

I had the HoLEP procedure in December. It has taken about 3 months to fully recover, but it was worth it.
I'm turning 52 in a month.
Who did your procedure? Do you have any lingering side effects?
@@IAmTheEggMan111 Dr. Zeph Okeke. A brilliant surgeon.
It's the standard side effects.
1. Blood in your pee. This goes away after about a week.
2. Pain after urination. This is due to the spintcher recalibrating so it over closes thus causing pain. This goes away after about 4-5 weeks. It can go away sooner if you start the kegel exercises.
3. Unriary incontinence this actually go through stages. First there is none done to the post op swelling (invisible to the eye as it's internal). Then there is the intermittent dribble. Then you (I had) have a really bad day where you dribble for the entire day uncontrollably. After that you are almost fully recalibrated. Again, this phase can be minimize with starting the kegel exercises early.
The plus is that (my) erections get stronger.
After 3 months you (I was) are back to 100% urinary control.
Now onto the lingering side effect. You have "dry" ejaculation. This means that when you ejaculated, it stays (temporarily) in the prostate cavity, then you can either pulsate and release or you can wait to pee it out.
You're still fertile, and can still get a women pregnant, but it will take practice and technique to accomplish it naturally.
‼️RENA IS THE BEST‼️
Very interesting. Thank you 🙏
I had Urolift. My experience has been horrific. Intensely painful recovery, completely lost ability to urinate a day after the procedure and had to get a catheter. Amazingly, they installed the catheter incorrectly, which caused more problems. No improvement in stream. Urethra damaged/scarred so my pee sprays everywhere. Apparently I now have to sit to pee for the rest of my life. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
My experience as well. From what was touted as a simple non-evasive procedure, I ended up with blood vessels having to be burnt off, had a catheter and my urination has never been the same again and not any improvement. Would NEVEr recommend this procedure to anyone.
Where you go? In the Jungle?HoLep is the best.
What is wrong with sitting to urinate, lots of advantages you rest more , no splashing, etc. What do we do when we go #2 do we only crap, no we crap and pee all while we sitting down so what's wrong with sitting to pee,
@Robert-yb8is well at home, probably little to no problem. However, if you're shopping or dining out, the ratio of urinals to toilets is rarely in your favor.
I take supplements and it helps…I understand that I’m an idiot with my health. Guys open your eyes. Thank you Ma’am for your knowledge and courage to discuss this.

Dr Malik's videos are very impressive. Wish my urologist had been as informative.
FYI, I had PAE procedure at Johns Hopkins - best decision I every made!! within two days i could urinate like I did when i was in my 20’s. I like to travel by driving, I can go 3 or 4 hours without having to urinate. Again, best decision i every made…. Also, no retrograde ejaculation! Check it out and it is done by radiologists….
Could you shed more info or where to get it ?
I've read that blood vessels can grow around the stunted ones and the prostate enlarges again?
how large was your prostate?
still a better option while hoping for something better in the future
Great info
What do you think of PAE as an alternative? The idea of supposed near zero collateral damage and low repeat rate is appealing.
I had the PAE procedure in Nov 2019. The recovery period was brief and the results are amazing

I dodged my urologist's recommendation to undergo a TURP - and risk impotence and incontinence - 14 years ago. I lucked on to the combination of one Tamsulosin and Cialis pill each day and have zero problems except slow peeing. My prostate is very large at 100 ml.
What you are not told about Urolift: the stainless steel urethral tabs which are part of the Urolift implant can become calcified and result in an infection. If for any reason these implants have to be removed they can remove only the portion of the implants inside the prostate. The stainless steel tabs which are outside the prostate stay there.
Dr. Malik. I was considering the Urolift procedure but read that this procedure could possibly damage the entire channel from bladder to urethra. Could you comment on what you know about this please?
Thank you for your detailed info on this BPH problem....I just found you and subscribed.
I had a Urolift about five years ago. Only a slight improvement in my case.
Seems everybody has a different experience. I had a TURP and after all the bleeding and healing, it helped tremendously -- for only a few months. It gradually returned to very limited flow. Sadly, NOBODY told me that ejaculation would be totally history. Also ED has become extreme, but I don't know how much is a result from the TURP, and how much is from diabetes. Very disappointing.
That’s one reason I never considered TURP
I truly sympathize with you. I've been to several urologists, and virtually all of them fail to explain possible side effects of the various procedures they've put me through. It seems to be pretty common among doctors in that specialty.
A urologist friend told me that procedures like those mentioned and TURP should nowadays be thought of as second choice, and that PAE should be regarded as initial choice, as it is cheaper and quicker and will resolve most problems. However he said most of his colleagues would not agree because they believe, as Urologists, they should be performing such procedures, and, in the UK, TURP is regarded as the "gold standard" even though it has far too many side effects.

The issue I have with Uralift is that it doesn’t reduce the size of your prostrate. You prostrate continues to grow each year. With Rezum, you reduce the size of your prostrate by up to 40%.:with that being said, I had Rezum done and it was painful and I almost died. My urinary tract was blocked and I went to the ER. Was in the ICU for 3 days and needed dialysis.
Thanks for that, Rezum is what my Dr does they make it sound like a piece of cake. Drs underestimate everything they do. hope youre better now
When I was 50yr old, I had a partial prostatectomy done at the VA, needless to say I don't think about sex anymore.
HOLep. That’s the way I went (with a 250g+ prostate.) Rough first 10 days … Healing well and quite happy with it. This is an informative video. But I’m happy with the way I went.
What do you know about the Breeze study, using the zen flow spring. Any info would be great.
You didn't mention PAE (prosthetic artery embolization) very minimal procedure. It basically blocks blood flow to the prostate stunting it's growth. I had it done in February and although I am not 100 percent. I am happy with results.
I had that procedure several years ago, in and out of the hospital jst a day later the worst part was having to lie on the bed and waiting for the incision to heal before they could release the pressure. Certainly improved the flow but sadly that affect only lasted about 3 or 4 years and I am now back to looking at being treated again.
How much did it cost for PAE procedure ? Thanks for let me know. I read a lot of articles about PAE which is very positive
Can you comment on the new non- surgery procedure that shrinks the prostate please?
Thanks Dr. Rena Malik,
as always extremely interesting.
What is your opinion about the Gat Goren procedure?
I had a urolift done at the end of February. A painful and miserable two days followed, then the pain and discomfort subsided and a week after, I felt fine. Flow is good, no urgency. For me, getting off of the flomax was a major benefit as it is a significant contributor to ED. I have zero complaints about the whole process, though I acknowledge I may be fortunate to have had an excellent urologist/surgeon, who thinks, from his experience, mine should last 5-7 years. We will see.
Would be nice to hear about "Aquablation". My prostate is too larger for Urolift and my Urologist does not recommend Rezum.

It’s a shame most urologists don’t mention Prostatic artery embolization (PAE) as an effective treatment for BPH - mainly I suspect since it’s performed by radiologist
my results are amazing from the PAE.... no urologist will ever recommend it....
@@InfusionFotoMpls why won’t they recommend it?
@@davidd9045 Follow the money! And it's performed by an interventional radiologist, not a urologist. It's sad but that is the state of healthcare in the U.S.
I have read that PAE is performed by vascular surgeons since they usually have to through an artery in your groin/thigh area.
I had that procedure several years ago, in and out of the hospital jst a day later the worst part was having to lie on the bed and waiting for the incision to heal before they could release the pressure. My urologist at the VA told me yesterday that over 50% of the uro lift procedure patients have to have them removed and undergo surgery. I have a normal prostate, but he wants to ream out the urethra because he says I have a curve restricting my flow. I am going to go to a second (non VA) urologist for a second opinion.
Ask yourself Why is VA doing Urolift if it’s not successful? It depends on the Doctor.
I was diagnosed with BPH 2 weeks ago. Im 54. I was given the medication but didn't take it. Instead I went home and fully water fasted for 3 days. Since then I've effectively gone zero carb and ditched alcohol completely.
I noticed a big difference after the first 3 days in that I could pee much better, but the burning sensation took a few more days to recede. By day 6-7 all symptoms had more or less gone. I didn't have sex or ejaculate for about 12 days. The first one was a bit painful. But since then all has been well. Its amazing how we men can try to avoid doing the right thing until it affects our ability to pee and cum. Lesson learned. Im low low carb all the way now.
I'm going for an MRI 19th December since my PSA level is 5.8 when a man my age (56) should be 3.5. The urologist felt a slight enlargement but I won't opt for suergery IF it gets to that. I don't drink alcohol and drink lots of water everyday anyway. I've been drinking water all my life.

I agree..Food,alcohol, dairy, chemicals and much more all affect the prostate in some way..even constipation and stress. My main thought is none of these doctors dont want to tell us the reasons for inflammation of the prostate. They say enlarged prostate..not inflammated prostate. So why dont they tell us ways to fix this issue...because..they would not have a business then..doing tests, profits from medication referrals, surgery money, after care. Once you engage in surgery..you are a life patient. You will be seeing them for the rest of your life.

The thing about the rezum is that it doesn't damage the surrounding structures. What I mean by that is that the vapour with proliferate through the adenoma but when it hits a wall or barrier it stops. So when it hit denser tissue like a prostae capsule it does not penetrate. This is why your tubes stay intact! It, as I read once, has been likened to when the wind hits a sail but does not penetrate.
A friend of mine did the REZUM treatment. It was a disaster. Extremely painful, infections and it didn’t work. He had to go back and have the TURP treatment done. I had the TURP procedure two months after he had his REZUM treatment and was almost healed up before he was.
