*I'm deaf in my right ear which is why I'm not wearing headphones. I know, it's a bummer not to get the panning sounds. It's also been a bummer to only have one ear my whole life for lots of other reasons, like, playing telephone growing up, I was terrible at it. But, I'll be ok, and I'm getting both channels in the earbud, thanks for your concern :)

White Pony will be their high watermark for a lot of fans but this is definitely a contender, too. Especially if you only consider modern era Deftones.
Diamond Eyes is great. But i think Koi No Yokan is even better.

This song is definitely a tribute to their bass player, Chi Cheng. The title could be simply a fav. movie as they grew up together watching it(?), maybe it could insinuate that the situation of his accident and coma is a form of Chino’s anger/perspective that God can be evil(?)
I believe this song was written by Chino for their original bassist Chi Cheng, who got into a car accident and was basically comatose for many years before he passed. RIP Chi
Was waiting for this reaction and you did not disappoint my friend! So glad to know that you like this song as much as you do! This whole album holds a special place in “Mi Corazon.” My wife and I were just about to tie the knot when “Diamond Eyes” dropped. Ironically they came to my city 3 days before our wedding and we were able to see them and get married in the same week! Mind blowing for even the biggest fan! Can’t wait for the rest of the album reaction! 💪🏼😎

30 Seconds to Mars cited Deftones as an influence. But this particular song they may have returned the inspiration. I think you will love Risk and Diamond Eyes from the same album.
Top 3 Deftones song for me. Your reaction was my reaction first listen. Song puts one in a weird space. Not sad, mad…maybe some longing but a space where you can float.

I really like this song, good reaction as always!
I believe both this song and the one preceding it on the album "Risk" are about their former bassist Chi Cheng who was in a coma at the time and sadly passed away years later. You could maybe interpret this as a relationship song as well, this is a little more vague than "Risk". Overall though, both make for a lovely tribute.

Thank you very much for your reactions. I agree that Diamond Eyes is their best album, next to Koi No Yokan. If you do a top 10 list, it's tough not to pick a bunch of songs from those 2 albums. I really wish Gore and Ohms were more like them.. they're good albums.. but just not as catchy

JERSH. one critique I have (we've discussed stuff like this privately) is that I'd say to put your face on the left of the screen and the song icon on upper right. As stupid as it may sound, psychologically some people see that as a positive "looking into the future" thing. Just speaking from experience.

It's okay to call them, "The Deftones." They call themselves that occasionally. It's only stupid fans that are Karen's about it.
976 (Porn/sex/attraction) EVIL (I know you’re a succumbs but DAMN) is how I always thought of it. Gorgeous song and quite romantic if you think about it. Another Deftones song describes this, too: “You’re my girl, and that’s alright. If you sting me, I won’t mind.”
Also, since you asked, I'll repeat my recommendations for non-Deftones, non-Tool bands here. And this time I'll even include some song recs! I know, I know, Imma spoil you if I keep this up.
*Nothingface* - If you wanna start in the shallow end: "Walking on Bodies" or "Dead Like Me". Deep end? "I Wish I Was a Communist" or "Here Come the Butchers"
*dredg* - "Symbol Song", "Of the Room", or "Pariah"
*Sevendust* - Oy, their catalog is massive but: "Denial", "Angel's Son", "Splinter", and "Dirty" are all perfectly fine places to start
This is the only album by them that I don't like. It just make me cringe song after song...but they're still may favorite band.

This album has some real 80s alt pop flavours in it mixed with their style which gives it a unique feel. I love the album but always prefer Deftones when they are being melodic aswell as heavy. I can see how this doesn't sit well with everyone tho
